Ok, now im on f8b, feels better actually, just the feeling, easier at boot, but that was f7d also, all the boot problems are gone atleast..
voltage seems ok, better than f7d? now im in win at 4,2 HT on at 1.42 unloaded, that didnt work so well before...not a crash yet :) but havent stressed it either.
I do got a problem tough, the past month i got this delay at windows bootup, it just stand there for 2mins or so, then it loads win... dont get it, wasnt like that in the beginning... something has happend.. anyone?

I am thinking my wall might be cpu related. I can boot at 217 with high volts. But when I raise pcie to 101, 102, or 103 and hit 218, soon as I hit set FSB it just freezes.
I wonder if those cpus that are hitting wall at 220-222 are mobo related and hence pcie may work, and cpus like mine that have bclk wall below that, 217 for mine, that pcie then will not work as mobo limit is ~220 and mine is then more likely all cpu...but wont know that for sure until couple months when I get another mobo and D0 cpu for "wifes" build....though I may be switching some parts between hers and mine:D.

F8B is a no go for me, system crashed with same settings as F7D. oh well can't complain...
I'm Still running the F6 official here. Because of the extra voltage needed with the F7. But i think i'm gonna give it a go and test it myself. I will also use a wattage meter to really check if it will use more. I Will try the F7 official and the new F8b Bios.
Does anyone know if sleep (S3) works with F8b? I'm still on F6e because that's the only one I can get to sleep @ 19x200.
S3 works with F8b with extreme...but dont know for sure with UD5.

Quick q guys, I can get my hands on the UD4P and Extreme for £200 or the UD5 for £210, any advice on which to go for? I've seen an awesome clock with an Extreme and not far off with an UD4P. I'm going to strip it and fully water cool it so I just want OC head room :D

I am trying to stabilize my overclock at 4663.
I can run superpi 32m, wprime 32m, however except when I benched in a particularly cold room. I cannot finish 3dmark06 as it always crashes at the cpu test. Spring is starting so I can't get the room cold anymore.
My settings are
1.5375 volts for the core.
1.475 for vtt
I/oh 1.20 volts
qpi pll = 1.360
pll voltage = 1.88
bclk = 222
turbo on
ht on
uncore = 18x
memory multiplier = 8
Going up to 1.55 volts for cpu will make the system not boot.

I'm wondering if any one else is having this issue or if any has some ideas for solving this annoying issue.
I had been running the Windows 7 Beta for a couple of months using the ICH10R AHCI drivers. Well, a few days ago I moved to the Windows 7 RC. I made sure that I had AHCI set already in the BIOS so that Windows 7 would just go ahead and install AHCI from the get-go. After running the initial install just fine, the installer restarted my system, the AHCI BIOS screen (where it detects all the devices) came up and then just sat there, not doing anything, indefinitely. The only thing that changed was Windows 7 RC vs. Windows 7 beta - I had booted into the Windows 7 RC setup process off of the DVD in AHCI mode and formatted the drive within the installer. So I changed the BIOS settings back to IDE and it worked just fine.
So I go to change Windows 7 RC to AHCI mode from within the OS, restart, change appropriate BIOS settings (I'm just switching the Intel chipset to AHCI while leaving native IDE mode disabled and the onboard controller disabled), and the AHCI BIOS does the same thing. I've yet to try any of the BIOSes with the updated AHCI BIOS because of the voltage problems I've been hearing about. Any ideas if this might fix the problem? Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

UPDATE: I just thought of something that I did change. I have three hard drives, one of which I want to be the system, boot, and OS drive (partitions). Well, I've run into issues in the past where Windows would for some reason make the system (boot) drive different from the drive that Windows got installed on. To eliminate this issue, I just leave the other drives unplugged during install and then reconnect them once Windows restarts the system. Well, I installed Windows in AHCI mode with my two other drives unplugged, but I can't remember if it screwed up before or after I reconnected the other drives. Any ideas if this could be the root of the problem??

With the voltages you are running you would be best off disabling HT, it will help a lot to lower the temps, at 1.5V and with 4.5ghz+ cooling I7 is not a easy job, even with water.Quote:

The only things I really like about 8b is new AHCI rom so boot is few seconds faster in AHCI mode as does not pause for drive search, has quick timings entry so can enter 7,7,7 21 1 just once for all three channels, and S3 which you dont use. As for performance, stability, volt requirements, I have never seen much diff in any bios from F4j-F8b on mine, just bugs that come and go. F7C still had the Qflash bug if flashing to earlier bios, ie F3-F4, though did not exhibit the bug if flashing to same or later bios. F8b has no Qflash bug at all...but if your using F4j, you never had that bug to begin with:p:.Quote:

yeah man sounds like you managed to push a bit further but still not able to get it stable
you can try lowering your uncore volts which will create less pressure on CPU and reduce temps a bit

So actually I cant say if mine works on earlier bioses or not. But works fine with 8b bios. One thing I found is that sometimes I have to clear cmos when coming off a bios like F3 (testing stuff with it) to get S3 to work on 7c/8b....so maybe it does not work with earlier bioses on mine.
Edit: S3 works with HT on or off, just tested by having it sleep after 1 minute. Worked fine, and wakes up with tap of spacebar. Also, I am using wind 7 RC 1, and to get s3 to work properly I had to go to power options>>change plan settings>>change advanced power settings>>and set - no- to require password on wake. Otherwise for some reason hitting keyboard would not wake it, had use power button.

I am considering buying a GA-EX58-UD4P MB.
I don't plan to liquid cool it (XigmaTek 1283 will do I think), but it will be in a fairly cool basement. I only plan to run a single video card (right now 4870).
I won't have more than 3-4 HD on it (now Velociraptor, Seagate 1.5TB, WD500GB).
Is there any point in going for UD5 or putting Extreme BIOS on the mobo?
I bought a 920 D0 chip and plan to get OCZ Platinum 1600. (I will likely OC the chip to ~4Ghz)
Can anyone confirm which bioses (except F6e) have a working S3 option on the UD5? I'm using the F6e beta bios. F7 final was recently released. I tried several F7 betas but S3 sleep would not work with any of them.
Does anyone have the same issue that i have and that is 6 gig of ram showing as 6.0 gig installed and 4.0 usable in control panel, think it was the same in vista 64 and now in windows 7 also.

i did earlier today when i was messing with the round trip latency, but after playing again it just shows as 6.00 gb now
just had a poke around and when i remove i stick it shows as 4 gig and 2 gig usable unless i left the first white slot empty and then it shows as 4 gig with two sticks fitted , i tried all three sticks in different slots so to me its looking like i have a slot that not reading, the white slot nearest the cpu :eek:Quote:

Man it feels good to be back with a gigabyte board, had myself a Asus Rampage 2 extreme, nothing but problems from day 1. This is the most solid board for X58. Also took less voltage for my xeon to rech 4.2ghz with the gigabyte. 1.21v for gigabyte 1.24v for rampage. Gigabytes power Phase is obviously a better design.

I tried the beta F8b bios with the the AHCI rom and before Windows started loading, the BIOS said that it was updating the backup BIOS with the new one I had just flashed. Unfortunately, the computer rebooted before Windows loaded and got a BSOD the second time around. I reflashed the main BIOS to F7 final to be safe, but since there was no text saying the backup BIOS was also flashed, I assume the backup BIOS is the beta F8b BIOS that did not work for me.
My question is this: is there a way to manually flash the backup BIOS to the F7 final BIOS so that if something happens, the computer will not try to load a backup BIOS that does not work?
Is there going to be another Northbridge release for the x58 , i thought i read somewhere that another one would be out with even better performance :confused:
what is the difference between GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 and the GA-EX58-EXTREME? the Extreme came with waterblock that's it? does the fitting fit 1/2" ID tubing or can they be replace?

In a nutshell, this OS is everything Vista should have been (though I ran Vista from RC and never had any 'major' problems). Its fast, responsive and feels stable and solid.
Granted there maybe a few 'niggles' but as an RC, I expect nothing less ;) and comparing that to Vista's post-SP1....a few niggles are acceptable :D
I just recently dumped 7 RC. The issues with nVidia cards, no punkbuster support and some other really minor issues forced me back to Vista Prem 32b, which I find equally as fast, but I really do like 7's overall look and feel better.
