Just for a lark I tried OC'ing my DQ6 With the f4d beta bios to see if I would have anywhere near your issues, I could boot all the way up to 401*9 FSB But the temps on this :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty HSF worried me so I went back to 333*9 and that was with stock voltages all around (forced the cpu to normal so no overvolt) and forced the x2 multiplier for the ram cause I read somewhere that that helps... I know it was Stable at 380*9 cause I ran prime95 x2 for over 3 hours... just hated all the damn noise from the fan keeping it cool. Just putting in that not all the DQ6's and E6600 retails have issues like you suggest.

I run raid on the intel port side and no matter what I do to the board to try to even get it to get warm it simply doesn't... If your NB and Jmicro are that hot to the touch something is VERY wrong with your board!!!!

Priming for 3 hours is not good enough, i've had Prime fail after 6 hours. You need a minimum of 12 hours for dual prime Orthos + use Memtest86+ and The Windows versions, Super PI and other stress testing programs.

The issue i mentioned about the NB and SB being hot were from the perspective of just building the PC and not used to the new hardware, it's normal for the NB and SB to be hot, in fact the new F4d bios appears to have dropped the temps...to the finger touch test that is.

My board appears functional in all respects, it works...when you have everything set to default. Overclocking...no go.

Again i have tried to set the FSB to 400x6 = 2.4GHz, it will not boot. You say you have the MCH and FSB voltages to deault, well i tried that + 0.2V up on both and it will not boot.

So i am going to RMA my G.SKILL ZX memory, sending it back Monday and G.SKILL say they will send me a HZ kit instead. So we'll see if things get any better.

Personally i think it's the memory, either that or my CPU are absolute crap at overclocking.

Give a try to 401 FSB. There seems to be an issue with setting proper strap timings at exactly 400. (not my observation but another forum member) So I tried at 400*9 and no boot, but setting it to 401 resulted in a sucessfull boot (no tests cause I have other things to do today). So I can't say if it's stable but it does boot and thats a start give the 401 FSB a try!

my geil 2x1gb 6400 that passed two complete memtest loops @ 970
on a ds4
are now limited to 950 5-5-5-15....on a f5c ds3
(still haven't figured out the secondary timmings though)

Right...tred everything from scratch, removed the CMOS battery and left standing for one minute. Inserted, reset and load optimised defaults.

Tried as you said, 401x6 = 2406MHz...no boot, left Vcore a default 1.325V amd default on the FSB and MCH.

Then upped the FSB to the maximum 0.35V volt, no boot, upped both the MCH and FSB to 0.3V...no boot. Upped the MCH to 0.5V...no boot.

The CPU is not being limited as it's only 2.4Ghz, the Vcore is normal....so you tell me, why won't it work??

What memory do you have?

ocz2p8002gk Retail Kit. 2.1 v normail I believe. And as an edit i do alter the mem voltage because the board only sends 1.8v to any dimm so I added +.3 to bring it to the dimms requiered 2.1v

hhmm i'll give the F5c a spin and report back.

i dont like seeing you guys say its not overclocking as high.

hhm i was able to cold boot at 412 now i cant... hhmm....

booted at 425 w/ 1.5v though but damn even with my water the cpu idles at 45c and 57c load. yucky damn these chips get warm real warm with anything over 1.45v

but so far thats all i see...

Well, I now connected my second sata odd and my RAID BIOS went away. Ugh! I have two Seagate Momentus 7200.1 2.5 inch hdd's. Lite On 161S sata DVD ROM and a Samsung W163A sata DVDRW. I had the hdd's on ports 0 and 1 with the Samsung on 4. RAID worked though I got the AHCI smart errors. I put the hdd's on 4 and 5 and put the Samsung on 1 and the Lite On on 0 and no raid.

I'm going to try and mess with it a bit today.

The I get the continuous reboot before post every now and then as well.

well i sure as hell hope your using the purple slots for raid if you have the DS3.
cuz those are the only ones that use raid.

and dont use that stupid AHCI.. it is nothing but trouble. use either IDE or RAID. dont use AHCI


and i do not like this F5c bios. not stable at all with my usual settings.

i also flashed back to the F4 bios and now the board isnt stable at all. im about to get real peeved if that bios did something
i am no longer stable at 1.35v @ 3.6ghz which i always was before. infact i didnt even need 1.35v for 3.6ghz but now 1.35 isnt stable.

WHY?
no speed differences for me
and AHCI has hot plug and NCQ

but SATA drive @ purple ~150MB/s
SATA @ ICH8 ~130MB/s according to HD TACH

I'm at purple with AHCI and works great.

Try to clear cmos, (get rid of the battery for like 5 min ) and disconnect the power supply including the seperate 12 V. Then do the F4 flash ( and do not forget to load optimised settings in bios ). It`s something with the P965 chipset that is buggy and is remembring fault settings. Something to do with C1 stepping of p965 wich is solved in C2 see http://download.intel.com/design/chi...t/31305402.pdf

DQ6. ICH8R. Mixing raid and optical SATA is something that every ichXr chipset has done (for me at least). I would prefer to disable the third part non-intel ports.

Generally Intel chipsets are pretty solid, but I think they were so desperate to get Conroe out and boards that supported it, the 965 has not had all the kinks worked out of it yet.

So I ordered a DS3 (deja vu) for a rig for my pops.

What is the best BIOS to use right now? I'm lookin' for SOLID with a minor OC (2.4GHz out of a E6300).

Should I just use F4? Should I flash in DOS?

I noticed you did not mention these:
Did you fix the PCI-e freq? set a fixed 2x multi on your Memory? Or did you just leave them at AUTO?

Make sure nothing is out of specs first except for the FSB... PCI-e GFX Cards won't run at PCI-e freq of 150MHz! So set it at 100-105. Make sure memory has a multi of 2x.
most people run FSB @ 400 without any voltage increment to FSB / MCH.
If it still doesn't boot, start increasing the MCH voltage. Leave FSB voltage aside first. It doesn't do much.

With a 40mm fan on your NB, you should be able to get 400x7 solid on your ds3 + e6300. Shouldn't need to up your vCore at all. Of course, that is if you have DDR2-800.

Exactly, i want to disable the onboard JMicron 363 controller and save on resources/IRQ's. I tend to disable as much as possible.

I have had issues with this as well. My previous Abit boards could be flashed within windows, and all that was needed was a "load optimized settings" switch for OC stabililty.

If you memory ran at 800MHz without any flaws, then it's not your memory if your fixed it at 2:2 in bios. I've not seen anyone with PCI-E set to "AUTO" running at 400FSB yet. It's almost impossible for the cards to clock at that frequency.

Pjoeloe, how can we tell what 965P chipset stepping we have, especially if I have the DQ6 with its heatsink in the way?

Also, can anyone confirm if the 4d bios is in English language? I just extracted it to a floppy and the dialog box to do it was written in German or something like....:confused:
