@The Stilt:Can the bios be modified with tRFC value of 1 step and tREF option?
I value my NDA, letalone my balls than my ex g/f sorting me out the NDA with ASUS. Also the fine and other losses i don't fancy.
See above.
I offered to make a BIOS or something for ya, not to give you it.
Tell ya what, anyone that adds me in the next day relating to the program on MSN i will dump your IP to ASUS. I think it's highly rude and discrascefull of you asking me like you have.
On a good note, i have 2 more newer BETA BIOS for the bord, i have the bord here right now.
Im about to build my own personal rig back up which uses the MFSE bord and plan on doing the BIOS MOD as my ram worked at the uber high settings on the RF but not on the MFSE.
The BETA BIOS's i might be able to sort you out on as i've seen them leaked on other FTP sites and stuff in China (the bloody norm) and Thialand!
Oh and get the NB cool, cooler the better, more FSB, less Vmch, less PPL, higher clocks and tigther timings all round.
Pete
wtf? red pcb? you mean red and silver heatsinks?
Anyways, Look for yourself
http://www.fotorola.com/uploads/ae64dd440c.jpghttp://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...y/100_0736.jpg
They are the same, So the Pinotnoir is a X48 aka Rampage Extreme and the Maximus Extreme is the X38
Trust me, it's not the same as anything you've had. Imagen DFI making everthing for ASUS and your getting somewhere with the logical thinking on all aspects.
Then let think more but keep stum on it. Asus Pinotnoir is a kiss ass bord and really is nothing at all what so ever like the above.
Bios for it is more of a headach than being hit by a bus at 90mph. I love this bord so far
Well then Pete, Want to point out the major difference on design besides the cooling system? because everything is the same down to every resistor and chip. So, Just like the Maximus Formula to the Rampage Formula, The Maximus Extreme to the Pinotnoir should do the same thing.
if you mean setting up a RAID config from scratch with disks already containing data you will loose the data. but if you already have a RAID config running and you update your BIOS the only thing you have to do afterwards is to set RAID again in the BIOS: Go to main, sata config, configure sata as: RAID.
Hope it helps.
Pete is right a whole different ballgame ;)
http://img30.picoodle.com/img/img30/...sm_6b2c1e2.jpg
i guess that Supreme FX is missing in the Pinotnoir....
Look under the edge of the heatsink on the Chipset of the Pinot Noir, The area is the same. You can see the edge of the "missing" cap poking out.
So there is one x1 PCI e missing, that won't effect anything, since the X38/X48 can have alot of things, Its just the company's choice to add them or not. Their the same board when it comes down to it.
And some of the caps are moved sightly around, That wouldn't effected alot, so techically, There is only 1 cap missing.
Quick Q: BIOS 0907 or 1004 for Q6600 G0 and 2x 1GB 1066 Ballistix Tracers?
Sorry Warboy, but it's 790i...Quote:
The nForce 790i-powered Pinot Noir motherboard, part of the latest ASUS Republic of Gamers series, is now being showcased at CeBIT. What's uncommon about this motherboard is the unique water cooling solution for its major components. Furthermore this board can work with the latest Intel 45nm CPUs and utilize 4x DDR3 modules, three PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots and six SATA 3.0 Gbps connectors.
So what your saying is there different boards .... ;)
PWM area is very different to.
The reason why i flashed/tested my P5E is because of the fact it simply states "Maximus Formula" under the P5E sticker so production lines are equal.
The only difference are indeed some missing chips (2nd GB lan etc.) but no differences in important parts like chipset/voltage circuits etc.
it's a 790i, ASUS wouldn't put 3 PCIE slots on a high-end Intel X48 board that is toted to support CrossfireX....4 individual cards. Until I see proof, the 3 slots is a dead give away.
Thanks BenchZowner
So knowing its the X48, Think it will be easy to Flash the Maximus Extreme to Pinot Noir? We need a Motherboard Analyzer to see if its possible, But there isn't that much of a difference and I would no way say "its a whole different ballpark", There is way too much similarities in the PCB, and Layout of the board to say no way.
You want proof? look at my Maximus Extreme which is a X38....

what i don't understand is why i cant go above 400MHz bus, if i rise it to 401 the system go and restart and like that when i rise all the settings.
i try to lower my memory speed, rise the voltage of the PLL to 1.7, NB 1.6, FSB to 1.64 and so on, nothing help.
anybody have some advise ??
i dont blame pete's response. it appears he was bombarded with msn messages trying to get the afudos and he is tired of having his ethics and morals questioned. just leave him be and mabye he will save us some work and play ball, if not... then we will just find the stuff a few hours later anyways
mirror 219 bios
http://rapidshare.com/files/99518261...ormula_219.zip
Set FSB Strap to 400 (like it's already been mentioned)
Set Dram Static Read Control to Disable
Set AI Clock Twister to Strong
Set Transaction Booster to Disable, Relax level 1
I think your FSB Term voltage is too high as well. I would lower it down to the 1.4x range.
hi guys
so setting strap to 400 is more stable then auto? i would like to try that out, as i seem to find a wall for 9x multi, i´m running 8x442 stable at 1.437 volt, pll=1.61 nb=1.51, and for 9x400 i only tried up until 1.48volt pll1.64 nb1.55 and no go.
My rams are operating at 1178 5-5-5-15 clocktw moderate transB. disabl.0 at 2.28 bios volt (2.37 everest), with fan on top, i know i could squeeze a bit more juice if able to go 400x9. Presently i cant go higher then everest mem bench 9949 read 48.7 latency with 2.28volt. i would like to hit the 10k mark.
As im only on air, although quita a good flow, do u think i could try going over 1.55 cpuvolt.?
pretty stupid, runing stable at 3.536Ghz but not being able to easily go to 2.6Ghz. lolol
btw, completely off-topic sorry, but am already playing assass. creed!! rld release .. looks amazing yupee
rgds
I think you guys are getting a little to carried away with Pete's posts, give the man a break. He is under NDA, if you had one you would understand it as well that he cant really give anything out.
Just let the new stuff trickle out, you will eventually have it, and nobody gets penalized for leaking it.
====================
Anyways, 0219 works fine. Testing tonight.
Don't we all?
As i said i have my reasons why i can't which is due to my NDA but the PCB is not the same at all. Take the 2 bord and hold them up in the light and look at the traces. All shorter, more, a lot lot more of them. Letalone other things. BIOS is nothing like what we have right now.
I try to keep it hush to what im working on and with whom as i get asked, can i sell this, can i get them this, do this do that etc etc. It's bad enough with the missies asking for stuff and the kids and then the guys in my day job. Letalone guy and gals online i don't really know. BETA once it's passed a testing phase or i catch wind of it being someplace i'll shear it as ASUS let them out but they do take forever to let the BETA i have right now for the MF/SE to you guys.
2.29 SE is old! Sorry
Yeah as im sick of being baggered but a bunch of low lifes (no offence to all) but NDA is a contract, break it and pay the price. Just think outside the box your mobo came in for once about that! I offered to toy with some BIOS, to maybe try and find means and ways inwhich we can flash to and from keeping it all nice and sweet!
PM, MSN, E-mail, a TXT from a few in the UK, if i find it out there then i will shear it here.
Need more people like you that understand what a contract is.
0219 is a nice clean and stable BIOS. Still found tweaks needed to be done.
I've got some time in the week hopefull to flash mine and stuff. Bord is nearly dead anyway so i will give it some abuse and see what i can find for you all.
pete, yes i know 2.29es is old... but it works and thats all that counts really
here is a better way you can "leak" some stuff and not violate nda. just tell us what version you have and the file name. not asking to upload or anything. pretty much what that does is to set us on a quest to just find it already leaked. if you cant do that its ok too, i understand nda and the whole workload thing. just saying that you had the es version was enough to make me go find one *confirmation of existance*.
btw how do you get these mobo's and get locked into nda with asus anyways? i cant even get so much as an email back from them for anything :(
Well, I don't have the board so I don't know how you want me to compare them, But they are still the same. I don't see How you think the traces are Shorter? They boards have the same layout. Unless you wanna try to point it out, I can't see how they are different, All the other things one person pointed out are already explained.
Can someone come touch my hard drive?
Guuuuuuuuys.......
any mem testing yet?
well i made the jump to Rampage Formula 0219.
sofar i was able to take my cpu voltage down 2 notches! however i have yet to PRIME it, but everything booted well.
only problem im having is with my memory.
ive experienced some pretty bad bandwith decreases, as well as latency.
here is before:
Maximus Bios v907:

Rampage Bios v219
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/2...pagede9.th.png
mmmm strange....this is with my 24/7 settings.
hi, i m gonna flash my maximus to rampage soon...just wondering do u guys still follow stilt's steps or just simply type in AFUDOS /ifilename.rom /pbnc /n and ifilename.rom would be the bios file??? no more entering to ezflash to flash anymore right?
should help stabilizing a higher fsb oc... or at least this was my experience with the abit ip35-pro i had.
anandtech article for the p5e3 premium says their gtl goes up to .7 something with much finer increments which i would like to see in the ramage bios.
@ sup3rfly
correct. just afudos now.
@ giorgos th.
you need to mess with transaction booster and common performance level. i noticed a drop from switching to a rampage, but once i toyed with these settings and made sure its stable, i got better bandwidth than i could with the maximus.
Interesting problem here...
vPLL = Auto = No random reboots + 24/7 stable for weeks and weeks
vPLL = Manually set to the same as Auto (1.61v in this case) and I get random reboots within 5 hours and can repeat as and when I choose to manually set it again...
Zen;
can i get your bios settings? looks like we have similar setups..
The piotnoir , i read that its going to be both 790 and x48 variants
Both work fine Tiramisu... I ran the Q6600 on 0907 and also with the QX9650 no issues... updated to 1003 hell broke loose... reflashed back to 0907 all fine, now tested 1004 and it runs fine with Q6600 and my Gskills 4gig kit... no worries... I think Kup advises to use 0505 for Q6600...
1. boot from usb
2. AFUDOS /RF0219.rom /pbnc /n
3. done
correct? just to confirm :P
alrite got it thx :)
would anyone care to share there memory settings?
that pull in/out isnt making sense to me, If I play with it I get the "det dram" hang, then it takes forever b4 the pc will boot again.
Frustrating as hell. Finally had the Maximus sorted now its back to start again with Rampage
yes but without actually changing the internal mobo timings i guess....
correct me if i`m wrong..
Check this out about Rampage settings:
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=3
im with Grnfinger here too...
im getting some mixed results. DET RAM errors all over the place with similar settings i had used on the maximus BIOS... on the other hand however, cpu voltage is now lower, and amazingly, my load temps dropped 2 Celsius on full load~!!
its easy...imagine that you give pl5 with all phases disabled...you still have pl5
if you give pl5 with phases enabled you actually have pl4......
soooo,with fe 400fsb you`ll work with pl5-disabled...but not with pl5-enabled...too tight..

flame bait... lol sounds like an underage homosexual. (no offense to anybody, i just thought it was funny)
This looks promising I'm not sure If I have time to tweak everything again though. /sigh I wish Asus would release a decent bios for the Maximus Formula but when I get more time I suppose this hack is in order :) Thanks for all the work on this guys, this is a thread to follow.
Sorry double post here.
Just loaded 219 and my bandwidth is :banana::banana::banana:. Same setting and major crap here.
If I post my memory setting can someone with a tad more understanding of these new bios settings hold my hand and walk me through it?
Grnfinger;
hehe
also,
i just upped my B/W by a bunch....
send me ur mem settings and ill compare the 2 of ours.
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4...ememsm2.th.png
^---- still worse then my maximus bios by far...
w/ maximus, i was lookin at about 9600 M/B/s :(
You trailblazers have big ones, I'll give you that much.
I'm waiting for more results before I take the plunge.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/5126/everestco2.jpg
How's that look? PL7, no pull down. Bios 0219.
Thanks
I was able to tweak abit and have managed to get respectable bandwidth again, but however I would like to run 4-5-5-15 to reduce latency if possible.
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...ger/newrmp.png
Anyways my wife has my camera atm so here is basically my mem settings
5-5-5-15-3-40-6-3
All other settings are AUTO
Dram Static = Auto
Clock Twister = stronger
Trans Booster = Auto
anyone else notice that their north/south bridge temperatures aren't being read properly ?
(ive reinstalled everest already...)
running small fft's, the temps stay at 38C and 29C, regardless of the time prime95 runs...
Same bandwidth here with same setting and phases off.
I am a happy maximus rampage. Bios@0219
i have just flashed to the 0907 bios and here goes the stories
1. the second ethernet controller does not work, i have enabled it in the bios, windows device manager sees only the first ethernet controller
2. I have manually set the dimm voltage to 1.8v and the led dimm voltage indicator is now red??
3. Under the power bios option, the CPU PLL voltage is reading 3.20 V in red (i have manually set this to the lowest setting)
4. The dimm voltage is reading 0.0 v in the power menu
5. North bridge voltage is 0.00 V in the power menu (i have 8 gb ram so i set it manually to 1.41v)
6. DDR Reference voltage is aslo reading 0.0V
I did have to increase the vcore to 1.2875 to get my Q6700 stable at 333 x 10 with bios 0907, under 0505 i was able to get away with 1.2750 to get it stable at 3.33Ghz
Should i rma the board for possible defective lan 2 and sensor failure
Kevin
Kevin that sounds like either a duff board or a partial bad flash. Clear the CMOS, flash again, clear the CMOS again and re-input your settings.
i would like to downgrade to the 505 bios....when i tried to do the usb flash method...it said that the bios is older and stops...any techniques to downgrading the bios
Can i bood with my original dvd and try to reflash that way
Kevin
There are two ways to do it, rename 0505 to FORMULA.ROM and load it on a USB stick. Reflash 0907 and turn it off while it's flashing, this will corrupt it. When it boots up it will read FORMULA.ROM from the USB stick and reflash it automatically to 0505.
Or use the method described in the first post.
are you guys experimenting with the sub-timings also?
first of all try giving values through bios..it gives better results in terms of bandwidth..
second try to play with the actual PL not the PL - phases enabled...
LOL. Oh yeah! :D
I just flashed to bios 1003....i has to set all my voltages to auto to get into windows...once there cpu-z is reporting 1.280 v for my cpu...i cannot tell what the bios levels are, because all i get is 0.0v for everything under the POWER hardware monitoring section of the bios...the Vdimm led is still red and enabling LAN 2 has no difference...windows does not see it and plugging in a lan cable into LAN 2 has no activity light...i suspect it is dead
Is there any danger with setting all key voltages to auto
kevin

sorry for the large pics
Hi guys...Can you tell me more about how to come back maximus from Rampage ? Step by step plz....Thanks very much...
I'm having a big problem right now. My USB keyboard won't work in the startup anymore so I can't change the BIOS. I've tried using a PS/2 keyboard but that doesn't seem to work in the startup as well. I'm deciding if I should flash my BIOs or not since nothing else seems to be working.
I fixed it. <3 Asus Update
:yepp: back
