definitely putting this in my Kaveri build. :yepp::p:
the fact that people keep benching Hawaii versus Maxwell, an architecture and node which is "still a long way away" makes me wonder if people in general know how this industry really works.
The only thig Nvidia can do is release another part in 28nm, so long such part was part of their roadmap, otherwise there's only 22nm (for both companies)
20nm GPU's by Christmas from either company? I doubt it
late Q1 2014?... even then, only the companies and fabs know about this.
so at this point in time I am firm that all we're going to see in this market for the next 5-6 months are are a whole lot more Nvidia binned cards (TI's SE's and what not), and AMD's new offerings.
Hawaii was always 28nm and this was known by anyone who knows a bit about TSMC. if you followed TSMC earnings calls for Q1 2013 and Q2 2013, they were initially talking of 20nm volume production in Q2 2014. In the Q2 2013 call they were vague saying they cannot say about 20nm volume production in Q2 2014.

But I would like to remind you that you were extremely vocal about AMD not having a high end GPU in 2013. and here we are seven months after Titan and four months after the GTX 780 launch and AMD has a solid answer with R9 290X. To remind you the GTX 480 launched 6 months after HD 5870. these gaps in timing happen in the high tech industry.

this was even after AMD was hinting at the 28nm Volcanic Islands GPU product refresh in Q4 2013

I understand Hawaii is the only completely new GPU while the others are tweaks of existing ASICs. something like what Nvidia did with the GTX 700 series. nonetheless AMD has refereshed their stack with better performance at every price point and look to provide very good competition to Nvidia for the next 9 - 12 months. Also 20nm GPU products are most likely Q3 2014 with real volume being in Q4 2014 as Apple likely eats up the initial wafers for their A8 chips.
I am looking forward to your opinion on R9 290 / R9 290X in a couple of weeks and especially BF4 Mantle in Dec. I believe Nvidia have been out thought by AMD. the sweep of the next gen consoles and the close collaboration with DICE on Mantle are all indicators to an AMD firing on all cylinders and leveraging their console wins to the best effect.
Nice to see the greens keep thread crapping. There is two time periods on this thread before hawai details and after. Before it was 90% greens talking about how great maxwell is going to be, after is 90% greens whining.
AMD for years now have consistently been the first bringing a new arc.
AMD for years now have consistently held the performance crown.
AMD now is about to take the "single GPU" crown
All Nvidia will have left is the best card with a green cover and an army of zealots that only buy nvidia regardless.
Deal with it.
Wow, you sound mad. What has your rant to do with VI?
As i see i go offtopic with this question here.
But are new cards especially R260-270-280 priced lower than their predecessors ?
I have a bad feeling AMD is changing names and adding a new price point only, which would be a shame.
A quick check on newegg reveals that HD7970 can be had for 299$
As you recall, the discussions were all about.....20nm. ;)
Here's what happened:
- AMD's product cycle never had a brand new architecture coming out in 2013, or most of 2014 for that matter.
- NVIDIA pulled forward the launch of their refreshes by several months
- AMD stuck to their product cycle
- The R-series cards you will see on the market may be GCN refreshes, much like NVIDIA's GTX 700-series simply refreshed Kepler while adding two "big" new cards at the top: the TITAN and GTX 780. No new architecture from NV there.
- This approach pretty much benefits everyone since PC gaming technology hasn't progressed all that much (DX11 -> DX11.1 -> DX11.2 are all very minor steps) and the graphics card industry has pretty much matched that pace. This has gradually brought prices down.

mostly because most games are made for 8 year old console hardware and graphics quality has improved very little over that time
i was about to say at least amd has dropped the price of the refresh unlike nvidia but i just realized nvidia 760\770 are $100 more than they should be in au where as amd cards are not that far of the us price so maybe nvidia did drop the rrp as well and it just didnt follow through to us?
i would be surprised\disappointed if they havent refreshed them for gcn2.0 and improved efficiency like with the 7790
I would also add to it that more expensive cards are available because the companies have been making GPUs with much larger dies, largely in part because of the margins on professional market they are directed at. A card like Titan would not exist if not for that fact. Nvidia nor AMD wouldn't spend the resources to build a chip that size without a market that can absorb the costs associated with it, and the enthusiast market is simply not big enough in terms of sales numbers to warrant that when compared to the HPC market.
You can trust him but that doesnt make him factually accurate. (im pointing out what it means logically not questioning Sky's source or anything.))
If that's a generic VGA, i'll take 2 please.
One thing though, how come the core is clocked at 1,000mhz. I thought it was supposed to be 800mhz and didn't have a boost like previous cards. Still, i'll have 2 though :)
it has turbo like nvidia, clock is dynamic from 900 to 1000 mhz, but WHERE i can see preorders and price in US shops?
^^
well I found something regarding pricing from NewEgg
This is for the bundled edition, so we could be looking down the $650.00 mark for a vanilla version by SapphireQuote:
SikSol - Hard forum
<li class="price-current " itemprop="price" content="729.99" id="singleFinalPrice">
<meta itemprop="priceCurrency" content="USD">
</li>
$729.99 ... found in source code of the newegg site.. I'll be passing on that, maybe the non bundle version will be more reasonable.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=-1&isNodeId=1
only BF4 preorded is $50, i smell vanilla card price 679 maybe
and that's a great price!, not sure why am I reading hordes of posts on other forums about that price being too expensive....:confused::confused::confused:
