Yes, but i don't think premade DLC is new today. Games, especial consol games, already plan for DLC so its quite logical to make DLC Maps when your mappers have free time and are not bound to the main game.

It makes we wonder what crytek did the last 4 years... if you look at crysis 2 many assets got reused, AI got dumped down.. despite there claim it got improved. They could have made crysis 2 with the cryengien 2 in at least 1,5 years...

You're right. Those low res textures and removal of advanced settings, customizing and more is progress, the same kind of progress you get with a working arm and a lead pipe. They butchered the single player game into a linear run through with AI that clip on the environment and broken cloak game mechanics, and literally took a dump on the MP and threw it out the window. MP is a complete and utter mess, you got hackers on every server and its safe to say that half the players are people that are playing currently pirated the game.

Also the unlocks for the weapons/abilities is terrible, you need to get hundreds of kills to get the 1 attachment to a weapon or additional grenades just makes the MP part a huge grind fest.

Well, forgetting the Lo-res textures, 'Suck & Stuck' AI, restricted movement, limited graphics options and all the other flaws aside, making good-enough-but-not-great visual quality(don't forget, this is 2011, not 2008) and optimizing for low-end hardware to play is only 50% of the progress.

The other 50% is making a graphic engine that scales up with the next-gen hardware. Far Cry & Crysis 1 do scale with next-gen GPU, even 1-2 years after their release. Crysis 2? I won't count on it.

PC Platform have so much more processing power than the consoles, so in that matter, I think PC Gamers deserve more than just a 'console-class' graphics.

I guess you never realized they just made the highest setting for crysis 2 a middel thing between high and very high in crysis.
E.g. all the shaders on extreme in Crysis 2 are only set to the same level of crysis 1 high...

If they wouldn't have locked consoles and encrypted the pak files people already would have made custom cfg of the same level as for crysis 1 and you can compare apples to apples... only to realize it will offer the same performance... maybe even less since there is now GI in crysis2.


The only progress i see, is that the made better prebuild cfgs...

In crysis 1 veryhigh pretty much enabled everything even if it only made a very minor difference in visual quality. In crysis 2 they have a better balance. But thats basically the same what people did on there own with custom cfgs in crysis 1.
Thats also the reason why people say crysis1 look better, becasue it does. The preset cfgs in crysis2 are inferior to those in crysis1 they trade quality for performance.

It's not selling that well on consoles either, quite amusing. It sold about 300k on xbox360 the first week, which may seem a lot but considering console licensing and advertising costs
it isn't all that great.

I dont get your point dude, if you enable dx11 codepath on the leaked beta, you get only menu,which looks identical.And in game you have zero content to look at.Zilch.For proper DX11 release you have to design for it .Maps,textures, shaders.
For example geometry instancing, to you use it in some viable way, you have to design a map in a way it makes sense to use it.
Yes you can bolt on dx11 to a game, an example is dragon age II.It doesnt look much better tho,and cuts your fps in half or so.High res textures do more.
I would be glad if crysis 2 used dx9 to its full like crysis 1 did :P.But we arent even there.So whats dx11 gonna help.Great example is vegatation in crysis and crysis 2.Lightyears of distance between the two, in C1 you had high res with high poly vegetation that you could shoot at and it would react, you could chop a tree.leafes were moving when you got into them.In C2 you have standard rigid crappy textured vegetation with no interaction.

Actually it would not run at half speed... you would get more preformance in DX11 if they just leav everything the same (textures, maps). Because shaders have less overhead and can be done in a more efficent way.
Best example is WoW in DX11, it nets ~30% more peformance... the game looks basically the same but runs faster...

Crytek just went for the fail/fail way... instead the win/win...

With a decent DX11 implementation you can get more performance with the same quality or provide higher quality option, at a cost of performance.

Crap i was hoping it was the retail version. TBH, the game suffers more from the lack of a fully unlocked & working console + access to the devmode. If we had that, we could tweak away as much as we wanted :/

Well the console wasn't locked in the 1.0 or 1.01 update... but with the recently 1.1 they locked the console to a few basic commands and made all of the interesting features unavailable...

Well i couldn't activate the console at all in the release version, only 1.1 was it available :/

I feel sorry for Crytek. After years of dealing with complaints about "unoptimized garbage" they now have to deal with complaints of "console trash". They just can't win with the PC crowd and if I were them I would ignore all the fools and do whatever makes me the most money. It looks that's exactly what they did.

Yes, it is all about the money.

I got the game today. I think it looks pretty good already. The gameplay is fun and the game looks good to me, not amazing like you would expect Crytek to put out but it looks really nice.
I'm playing it at 2560x1600 on Extreme settings with SLI'd 480's with no problems.

Not 100% sure but the fog effects on that one look like they're from one of the many mods out there.

Yup, just looking at the video, I can guess it's a mod because I recently played Crysis 1 and Warhead at maxed settings and it didn't even look remotely close to that. Of course, when you add mods, it becomes easy to turn the game into something amazing. *prays for a mod tool kit for CryEngine 3* :D
