(to camoflauge) Gosh, no reason to post your E6600 results on an AMD thread. Oh well, no hate. However, I did have a question...
Does anyone know the EOL date for s939 Opteron 165's?
I wanted to buy one now, but I may wait a little longer, that would be awesome if we got to see s939 65nm Opterons..but I know we won't, forgot where I saw it, but I know we won't...=[
My 170 is holding 2880 at 1.5v on water. 2900 looks like the max for this chip, anything higher and one of the cores eventually fails under heavy load.
my ccbbe did 2952 for a while(coolaboratory liquid pro xp-90& 2 x 120mm fans), with inconsistencies... think it was motherboard related (k8n neo4 plats had a few cpuV probs) but now back to 2880 1.5 too.. stripped naked now with no change....Quote:

I suggest the vantec tornado 120CFM fan just get a fan controller if u think its loud.
I just recently bumped my vcore on my opty down to 1.375, kept speed the same and ran dual prime for 8 hours; it passed with no problems, but should I even try and go down to stock volts.
1.375 is fine, you don't need to be perfect at that voltage. Shouldn't be any crazy heat issues.
I think my thermal paste suxx but i not used too muchQuote:

Thanks, I am going to try an fiddle around with those setting and see if I can get mine as fast.
Yesterday I played with my Opty for a little while, just for fun a 1m at high speed. Non optimised stuff and memory has also some 20Mhz more in it at those timings.

Hey you guys, been a while since I messed with my settings; how do I get my ram to run at the same speed as my HTT.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...364/Image2.jpg
I have my LDT/FSB at 200(1/01); what am I doing wrong, has to be something simple.
What is you HTT set at?
Never mind, I accidently had odd divisor on; HTT at 260. All good now.
Here is my Opty 148 as Im still testing my 170s high end.

This Opteron 165 has turned in to a nice little upgrade for me. My last chip was a 3500 venice and that ran out of gas at 2.6 ghz. I'm up to 2.8 Ghz and my temps aren't crazy yet so I'm gonna try and squeeze out a bit more.
ambients got a little lower and I think my core0 has improved. my 170 is at 2,8ghz right now, dual sp2004 small FFTs stable for 8 hours. Voltage set in bios is 1.55v. Idle it jumps between 1.55-1.6 and load around ~1.52v. With this A8R32-MVP the vcore is all over the place. With a better board (like the DFI CFX3200) I can probably squeeze some more out of it, but hey it's stable.
I'm eager to push it further and especially see what my g.skill HX can do but i'm afraid to mess up my RAID array. I'll probably use a new winxp install on an IDE disk for testing.
Im pretty happy with my 170 so far. Its been running stable at 2929mhz at 1.50v and idles at 37C/41C under heavy load on water, looks like this one will do 3000 perhaps more once everything gets relaxed. l
Just got my 165 from newegg........CCBBE 0615EPMW :D Definetly a keeper! Im gonna be running it on the stock HSF, until I get my TT Big Typhoon VX. Ill let you know how she clocks :)

Nice OC with the low voltage. I'm trying to quiet down my machine a bit and have lowered my vCore to 1.375v (from 1.44v) in the BIOS, and it still runs 300x9 Prime95 stable. Turned my fans down to 7v and all I have left is to replace that Laing D5 with my DDC w/ Petra's top...
Tomorrow at last arrives my opty 165
I`ll be testing on weekend :stick:
Thanks man, you too! Have you gotten a chance to do any testing yet?? Let us know!Quote:

@g4h4 got her up to 2945@1.475v NOT PRIME STABLE gotta wait till this weekend to do that but it does look promising
hope yours is every bit as good or better than mine , but most importantly we'll have fun finding out
I decided to try my luck with a 165 before they went out of stock, at a decent price.... And what do you know, I got one of the "avoid" steppings:mad: CCBWE 0607UPGW, curse on you!
I found the limit pretty fast on this one, around 2,4ghz at stock voltage, maxing out at 290x9@ 1,5v. The chip also requires upping the Vchipset, whereas my Venice ran stable at stock Vchipset. I tried up Vcore to about 1,65v just for the heck of it, but I guess it got too hot to remain stable during prime. Popping the lid and upping the Vcore to 1,6 seems to have made it stable at 2,65ghz (295x9) 48 degrees dual prime load, almost exactly where my X2 3800 topped out (it's in another rig right now), although at a lower voltage. So it seems I only get the mediocre chips, except perhaps the 314x9 3000 Venice that this 165 will be replacing (bu that one doesn't really count, got it second hand knowing it's potential beforehand). Oh well, I guess it'll last me 'till DDR3 and quad core arrives (yeah, right!)
The culprit, decapitated, next to my Venice.
Bad Luck my friend....:(
really sorry to hear that , i've had a couple of those and know how you feel ,see my sig and insert "crappy stepping" for "crappy water" thats how i felt after getting a bad stepping

Hello America xD
Im gona buy a Opteron 165 or 170 therre (in USA), Im from Chile, so I can't go to the store and choose the stepping I want.
Mwave and monarch computer are the cheapest resellers, do you know what stepping do they have?
And the worst stepping I could get, how much would oc?
And a last question...
Amd is going to cut the prices, but some stores (mwave and monarch) Already have prices like the new..would they cut also? and....is going to come more stock?
Hi, I'm posting to see if any of you have any suggestions. I've taken my Opty up to 2.9 (prime and super pi stable) but I'm having trouble hitting 3.0 stable.
List of things I've tried
1 : Upped vcore to 1.415
2 : Lowered divider from 150
3 : Fiddled with timmings
I'm kinda stuck any ideas
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=132037
Vcore at 1.5-1.55v and prime at 3.0Ghz
Dont forget to up your chipset and LDT volts a notch, and keep your memory way under its normal speed. Raise afterwards.
ello America xD

Well I'm on air and anything over 1.42v causes core 1 to push 58-59c and eventually fail prime (core 1 runs about 5-6c hotter than core 2) . Maybe a better cooler would help me but I figured it should be enough. I'm not brave enough to go lidless or any thing crazy like that. ;)Quote:

got this ccbbe0615epmw from newegg last week this is how it pperformed , i think it has a bit mor to give but i got to my goal and did'nt want to push it
EDIT something i noticed about task manager shows the cores as messed up but i assure you that both cores were at 100% with p95 and will redo prime next week so there are no questions
Most good stepping opty's need at least 1.5v for 3.0Ghz.Quote:

Same Ram as shadow, the Ram runs 275 2.7v memtest stable. I can't get 3.0 with a FX-55 or a naked 148. 2.9 is the max on all 3 CPU's, or just a tad over 2.9, The FX dose 3.0 @ 1.40v under phase fine. It's the only one not cold bugged.
As for this 165, seems 325 is the max for both my Expert and Sli-DR. I'v tryed everything. Tryed 100 mem, x6 CPU Multi, 325 is the max both SP2004 stable at. Can post about to 334 and SuperPI fine, just SP2004 fails at anything over 325.
I'm using the 406 BOIS from DFI. And I see shadow is using Big Toe's Bios.
Been spending money just to get 75mhz faster. I bought this CCBBE off ebay because I almost for sure thought it would do 3.0 . But I guess my mother board needs better cooling. But it never gose to 55C on the NB chip. I have the same as shadow, 1 core is about 5c hotter than the other. I can run up to 1.6v befor it hits 60c in SP2004.
Anyways I'm just going to follow what people say to shadow. So I can try the same.
Peace, Nugz

I'm actually running a little cooler than that now. I had a bit too much as5 and it was ruining my temps. I'm actually on a scythe mine cooler with a yate loon 120mm fan. I also had the fan running at like 800 rpm :slapass: . My case airflow is pretty good. I have an Antec Sonata case with Yate loons. Hey Nugz, what batch is your ram? I've never been able to break 260 with them without failing memtest. 261 = :nono: Any settings you use to get you to 275?
0512 first 4 numbers. right? need 2.7v to pass 275, then kind of stoped there, can get into windows at around 290 2.8v but errors in memtest.

This PSU only has 500 watts.
Would this one be good?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194008
or this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703004
lol
Like one review says. A house hold braker can only handle 1800watts, 20amp.
This is getting bad, sometimes durring the day, I can't have my gaming computer and this computer and the washer going at the sametime, the braker shuts my power down. More power from my sockets? OMG lol
Hehe.
Peace, Nugz
The PCPower&Cooling you posted would do the trick. A little spendy though. This one here works great running 2 1900xtx's and a dual core FX at 3.2 24/7 and doesn't skip a beat.

Much easier on the wallet.:)
Athough I respect Dagidilis' opnion I dont really agree on wahts going on here.
An overclocked Opty at 3.0Ghz with 1.6v would need about 280watts. Your 500w PSU should handle that fine, if there is any problem it is with the amperage on the 12v. Now, Im guessing here but I would say anything over ~30amps should suffice. Most modern PSU's that are bought by the typical XS member are around 40amps.
Besides, plenty of people without 700w GameXstream or 1000w PCP & C and stable. How do you explain that?
Its a common misconception that Opterons get to 3.0 easy, 3.0 is a big line and I can thell you that Ive been through a LOT of them before I found one that did. I even had a CABNE 0528GPMW that couldnt get 3.0 stable, so even killer steppings have their bad ones. Really, its annoying as hell, but most will in the 2.9 range easy but 3.0 is borderline for about any 939 chip (look at the FX-60 for example, lots dont even get 3.0 stable).
I know some will hate me for what Im about to say but here it goes... You should be looking for an optimum between added Mhz and Vcore, not set a predefined goal that you want to reach. 2.9 at 1.4v is a real killer OC that is gonna give you more good than to force those last 100Mhz that you will only notice in benches and drives your temperatures and power bill up while decreasing the lifespan.
Nugz have you tried Big Toe's bios? Could be as simple as a quirk with that bios and your gear. Don't know if you use speed fan or not but it has a rough little graph you could wath while running orthos to see if your getting voltage droop.Quote:

I'v been prime'n for about 4 hours at 323 x9 "2906mhz" 1.45v in Bios, CPU-z says 1.40v, 1.44v real DMM checked during use. Seems all fine here. Mem at 166 = 264 3-4-3-7 2.6v . 7/4 Data Drive blah 1.3v LDT 1.70v NB MBM CPU temps says 42c Core temp says 46c Core#0 52c Core#1.
I can run my FX-55 under phase @ 3300mhz 1.50v in bios 1.49v real, -40c for hours prime stable with these PSU's. Guess a FX single core is different than a 165 Dual core. hehe.
I'll try Big Toe's Bios, But DFI/ that one guy, just takes Big Toe's stuff and adds it into the latest Bios so, I don't know if it would help any. But worth a shot.
Peace, Nugz
Might want to try Tmods bios cd over at Dfi street. It's an iso you can burn that has every bios you could think of for dfi boards. It even flashes in dos so less worries about a bad flash. You should check it out.
This soon will be my new PSU.... :D

O.o...how did you get 3400 mhz...?!!?=!?! with dry ice?
PS: whats your complete stepping? CCBBE 0617 FMPW?
how goes it on air?
Thx

Very nice chip you got there.
Dagalidis,,,,,Very nice,,,,whats the TCaseMax and TDP reading on that one ???
and what are the last four letters DPMW or EPMW ??
cheers !!!
Jojojo, thats nice men...wich aircooler are you using for 3.0? what are your temps?
thx
BZ
DPMW, and yes those was the corect values (TCaseMAX & TDP) on CoreTemp....Quote:

Just make sure you find CCBBE 0617 FPMW and the rest .... just hope:D
I'm bidding on a CCBBE 0617 FPMW right now, hopefully I can get it :D
@Dagalidis: Thx im getting one =D
and...was you SP2004/prime stable?
Bz.
Guys I see a CCBWE 0608 MPMW. How do you think this does?
On the front page only CCB1E 0608 MPMW is mentioned.
I would personally stay away from any ccbwe. Theres plenty of ccbbe in forsale forums and ebay.Quote:

Great thread guys. Well done on the compilation of statistics. I just ordered a 165 from Monarch and am hoping for the best. If the stepping sucks back it goes and I'll post here for anyone contemplating a buy from Monarch. I have a great chip now but the 165 looks to be great fun.
Wonder if I can take this any further. Got me a CCBBE 0615EPMW, got it from thenerds.net and its looking nice, got it to run prime stable at 300x9 for 1 hour and 30 minutes on what should be 1.35V, but actually 1.375V. Temps are a bit high so I guess I'll need water cooling or better case airflow to take it any further.
Idle is ~35/31, load is about ~49/50.
What do you guys think? I stuck a new silverstone high pressure fan on my TT Big Typhoon, running it at max speed as well as my other silverstone on exhaust.
Tahts really too hot for a BT on stock Vcore, even on stock fan! Your ambient temp?
Are you sure its mounted properly and with enough pressure, not too much thermal paste?
Also chekc CoreTemp to see if both cores temparatures are in line, maybe your IHS is making bad contact on one of the cores. Also you can see if it gives you lower readings than your mobo sensors, they could be off wrong.
edit: I see you already ran CoreTemp... minimal differences so I guess its remount time.
Hi, got some strange core readings anybody know why core #1 is below the cpu temp ? when idle
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/549...curate1pc7.jpg
Core #1 tempreture rises and falls twice as fast as that of core #0
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1...titled1na7.jpg
Also core #1 can be as much as 17c above core #0 when under full load
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/4...titled2gp1.jpg
Its prime stable 12hrs at 2.65GHz 1.4v core #1 is the problem and is always first to fail when volts are increased above 1.4v, any help appreciated.
pop the IHS, that's really the only thing I can think of.
BTW people, AMD prices dropped, see News section. 165s are ~$160 and 170s are only $200! :D
Well I remounted for fun anyway, got Zalman grease coming in today, so probably gonna remount today anyway. Well when I did last night I noticed poor coverage of AS5, it was patchy in the middle with little paste and most coverage away from middle. :(
Guess I need to check if both surfaces are flat in contact, or is removing the IHS my best option?
I live in Florida, its still hot around here at this time, I guess ambient is probably 23C outside case and most likely 25-26C inside the case.
hi evrybody i'm new. i visit the forum for a long time, but it's time to me to do my best in english :D
i have some problem to overclock my opty 165.
CCBBE 0615 EPMW ( i decaps it this morning )
I have some BSOD some times, but i have done somme occt, and i was stable. Same for the memory, some memtest @ 250mhz ( stock speed & stock timming of my PC4000HZ 2*1GB ) but some times ... i have some reboot, or when i boot some times shutdowns :(
One time the problem come frome ati2vxx.exe one time other programme from kernel, but any link between them
I really think my mobo don't suport my Club 3d x1900xt 512 ( no oc )
My mobo is an AN8-SLI, And i have already buy an seasonic 650 E+, i was thinking the problem was from PSU. ( before an antec True power 480TP. )
I use last bios and drivers on XP64. CnQ disabled. I have for hard drive Two Diamond Max 10 sata 16Mo 300go used in raid 0 ( 10go system / the other for programes ).
i know computers well, but there i'm very confused, i don't know where it come. This problem don't let me overclocking my cpu ( as i see very well steping great i want 3ghz :slobber: )
Thx evrybody :woot:
madcho-
If you have a straight A8N SLI or Deluxe (not the premium or A8N32) then there is a problem running any RAM at 1T above 240-250FSB. You need to set 2T on the RAM as you move through 240-250FSB. Sorry mate, it is one of the downsides of overclocking on that board. Try 2T and see if it stabilizes.
I have an ABIT AN8-SLIQuote:
