Am i doing something wrong here? I gota p4c800-e delux and a 740. Bios is 1024. CPu voltage is 1.6v. It seems that i can only do 166 x13 for 2.158ghz. Im not stable at 2.2 so i cant post half the time at 200x11. I can do 200 x10 but for some reason my corsair xms ram doesnt like to run at stock timings even at 2.85v. Do i gota enable or disable something to get what everyone else in the world is getting? ive tryed standard and turbo setting, with no hope other then turbo works when my pc3200 ram is running at 166 bus 1:1.
relax memory timings, get the voltage lower, for 2158Mhz you should not need 1.6V
what is your graphic card? if it is ATI, then you should boot at 201FSB and more cause if less, then agp/pci lock does not work.
try with any p4 with 800bus and see if it is nstable, it might be your mobo, i had one of these mobos, that could not do its nominal 200FSB - i had to by the other and the issue solved with the same components. try memory in other pc if you can to be sure mem is OK, and according to the simptoms I would strongly bet it is mobo problem. try booting at 210x9 for example with relaxed timings and see what happens. cheers.

When booting to 200FSB, set Memory Acceleration to Auto, when 201FSB, set to Enabled. Also set your Vcore to 1.45V, 1.6V is too high.Quote:

hipro5, how high did you have vagp set at P4C800-E del, at 1.95?
and what's the deal about vagp if using pci grapihic card, does it have any impact?
I work with 1.99Vagp all the time.......My VGA can handle it too, so I have no problem.......As for the PCI-E, I'll check that as soon as I have the mobo in my own hands...... :)Quote:

Vagp feeds the Northbridge as well, that's why it does better when you raise it.........Nvidia cards do well with high AGP frequency......My ATI X800XT PE can handle 80MHz AGP and bench as well....... ;)

This is my second Dothan build. First was using a P4C800E Deluxe, with a 1.86 Dothan. It's running 24/7 at 2425MHZ and 1.5 vcore with twin TCCD's. THis second one was built this morning, flashing a P4C800 Deluxe with the 1024 E version as described above. Running 209X11, PQI TCCD, and 1.5 vcore for 2300 mhz. THat's about it so far, just simple running the fsb up.
Both cpu's seem to be falling a bit short of my expectations. Any tricks I should be using, like a little vagp bump? Both builds are using the stock hsf's, the first has a faster 70MM fan on it though, and I did pick up a Zalman 7000alcu for some cooling goodness for the second one. I'll keep perusing these threads for some more tips, too. I plan on pulling the 1.6 out of my Inspiron 6000, swapping the 1.86 while I'm at it to see if that one scales any better.
These cpu's have amazing math power, but I don't hear too many people talk about memory bandwidth. Going to run a few Sandra benchies and compare it with my 3.2E and Lanparty 875. What sells me on the Dothans are it's low power consumption. My 3.2E and Lanparty 875 consume about 225 watts under load (which it is all the time, I'm a DC freak :cool: ) The Dothan/P4C800E combo uses a scant 88 watts on my watt meter! :banana:

Mine just keeps getting worse and worse. It randomly resets and it's uptime each time it resets just keeps lowering till it doesn't even get into windows.
Might go check out how much a new CT479 is just incase mine is borked.

Did you try to up the CPU voltage by a notch or two? Or performed the vdroop mod?
The Asus MB does not keep the voltage stable enough for high stress OC'ing.
This is exactly the same problem I was having with mine, same mobo, same problem voltage, 1.295 or something. Even my DDR booster wouldn't go any higher than 2.6v. However, mine started acting up immediately after I plugged in a USB hard drive. All the USB went out, which I suspected blew the USB controller (pretty common with these boards from what I hear). After that happened it wouldn't take the overclock at all. It ran at stock speed for a while, then it stopped doing that alltogether. Couldn't even get a post at 400MHz fsb after a while.Quote:

It doesn't seemt to want to go any higher. But already at this speed, it's way faster than my 1.8A @ 2.3G. I'm playing BF2 @ 1024*768 with med sound, EAX, low/med textures and 100% VD. Very happy. Will try vDroop and vDimm mods to see if I can't get some more out of this. I also thought my RAM was :banana::banana::banana::banana:, being TCC4, but it's holding up nice at 200 FSB DC 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.85v. They aren't matched, and both had HS on them, so I don't even know if they are TCC4.

Unless your going to do a voltage mod to your RAM or get a booster, it's pointless getting UTT as they really only shine above ~3v. IIRC, flashing the P4C800 BIOS onto your board and also flashing the bootblock {/pbnc /n} will give you multi and vCore options. It'll still droop whether you set it in BIOS or do the u-wire mod. You need to do the droop mod to stop it from getting voltage fluctuations.

I did the u-wire and set the voltage in the BIOS to auto, use Systool to lower voltage when not benching ... CPU doesn't oc any higher on more voltage so the 1.55v works fine... but I did notice on my P4P800-E that when I set the the built in BIOS overclock to 10- 30% the voltage in ASUS Probe reports 1.64v ... I havent verified it with a mm ... thought it might help anyone trying to get just a tad more ..Quote:

First post! Can anyone help with my startup problem? I'm running a P4GD1 and Dothan which worked very well until I changed the power supply. Now when it boots up, I get a Boot Block Compatible Version message (Asus CrashFree, I think) and am prompted to insert a CD or floppy.
I have tried the following things to narrow down the problem and still get the same error message:
- reverted back to old power supply
- brand new BIOS chip with 1006.
- brand new motherboard (Asus P4GPL-X)
- brand new CT-479
- RAM from another computer
I borrowed a Pentium 4 and it booted up fine. It seems the likely explanation is now a faulty CPU.
It seems strange that a faulty CPU would cause Asus CrashFree to activate. I assume that the CrashFree program runs instructions on the CPU, so surely the CPU can't be completely dead.
Any ideas if there's anything I can try before I buy a new CPU?

this happens to me when the FSB is set too high, tho I guessing you changed to a "better" PSU with your upgrade. Have you tried runnig wit heverything in BIOS at stock?

I've already tried setting the BIOS to defaults. It also does the same thing on a brand new P4GPL-X (with the correct bios).

Yeah sounds like it could be CPU problem, tho just to check as cirthix says, try to test CPU independantly before getting a new one. Hope you get somewhere with it!
Sounds like CPU problem since you tried two adapters already. I had the SAME problem right before my CT-479 adapter blew a chip.
Return the CPU and get one of those high clocking 780s. :D
