you sure vid 1,2625 ??? never seen a Q9650 over 1,25 vid

Got everything installed on the new board today. It seems more stable, may be the new PSU though not sure. At 4.0ghz-445x9 temps are good with the Ultra 120 Extreme, even with an old single Antec fan. Ordered a couple Scythe fans, should be in today. Need to get my vcore down. Did a quick prime blend run just to check temps. Very pleased with the cooler.
im just doing some quick test's,to see what the g.skill 9600's can do.

these are with the black label.and with power supply,on this board and max II it shows 12.00 to 12.49v.but with the dfi ut-p35-t2r it showed 11.97 to 12.03v
Radaja, that 1.41 vcore is scary....
yes i agree coo-coo-clocker.it was just a very quick test to see what it takes.thats why i want to get a low vid chip.i have the cooling to handle it i just dont like using high volts, but i do love high clocks
Finally got my UD3P and booy what a difference! This board rocks hard, I booted up at 478x9 with ease, my goal is 4.4ghz and it looks like I have a good shot at it. I'm running 1.33v @ 4.3ghz right now but it's not quite stable in IBT but I think a tad more vtt voltage will do it. I'll post some SS when I get it all sorted out, btw my X38-T2R wouldn't even post at this speed with a quad!
yesterday i started to look for lowest values on all, my room temp was 24,5C fresh than the rest of the days that where 27C and more...
this was my third run lowering just vcore, i think it's doing well, on the MF2 going for blend was a nightmare, with the UD3P seems piece of cake, i used the gskills on 1200 PL8 standard and 2,1vdimm on bios / MCH 1,4
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/895...oreblend1r.jpg
Sergio, if you looking for the lowest volts maybe this will help you out. These are my 24/7 settings, 10+ hours blend stable, and are just about as low as they go for me.

On the EO chips is 1.45v max? Dont know if my q9650 is a dud but having a hard time getting it stable. Did a quick run yesterday at 445x9 1.33125v which seems high but passed one hour. Tried different settings with poor results so put settings back, now it fails in 18 minutes. 18 minutes seems to be where if fails at any OC I try which is during small fft I believe. About ready to put the 9550 back in, it has the same vid as this chip but was easy to get stable. Got this q9650 in hopes of getting 4.25ghz stable for 24/7 use. Not going happen that i can see. What would be safe maximum voltages for VTT, MCH?
:welcome:
Another myth down, 4500Mhz stable barrier broken
EP45-Extreme attack once again but this time I used the 5k Pot Mod to reduce Vdroop (wow what a difference on stability).
I did this last week and know I'm working on 4750Mhz stable towards my final goal -4.9Ghz-5.0Ghz-with minimal volts for normal 24/7 use.
This CPU just keeps on going with less voltage then I ever expected. I tested both 2Gb Teamgroup@1300Mhz PL8 rated stock 2.45vdimm and 4Gb G.Skills@1250Mhz PL8 rated stock 2.1vdimm.
I try to send as many SS's of the entire testing process (beginning/middle/ end) so I'm sorry if you have 56k fax/modem.

Impressive, what ambients?
Hello there.
Im trying to OC my Q9650, but it's a little bit complicated. I hope you can help me.
First Im using those settings:
Vcore: 1.42500 (BIOS) - 1.392(cpuz idle)/ 1.376/1.344 (cpuz load)
VTT: +0.25 = 1.35
MCH: +350
Vdim: 0.25 = 2.05V
GTL REF 0/1:-3%
GTL REF 2/3:-3%
FSB: 445
Multiplier: 9
Ram: 890mhz (2.0D x 445)
timmings: 5-5-5-15
With those settings it was stable at 11hs on prime 95 then I stop it, also it was stable at 3dmark 06. But I cant luch at least 4 of 5 times super pi without errors.
The motherboard Im using is GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4.
I hope you can help me with settings or something like that.
Cheers
In the bios when I load default settings and reboot, It reads the CPU at 333x8.5 2.83ghz. Have to manually set it to a 9 multi which tells me its reading it as a q9550. Tried the CPU on both boards and does the same thing. Flashed bios and still reads it as 333x8.5 but in bios load screen it does say q9650. Anyone else have this to happen?
I havent really played with the F9b yet, just loaded it to see if it would fix the S3 problem but it didnt.
That is one nice chip, nice work.
You've got some beast ram Elano, I wish they would fix my board's compatability with D9GTS ddr3 :(
Jor-Now that is impressive. Very impressive. :yepp:
amazing clocks there jor3lBR!you never cease to amaze us with your skills.do you think with my temps(inside my case is about 9c) would i be ok using 1.5 to 1.6 vMCH?to do my 525fsb run i set 1.5 and still kind of worried about being too high.what do you think with my temps how high would be too high?
I'm still working on getting my voltage down a bit but it's stable @ 4.4ghz 1.36v.

That is actual voltage measured with a DMM btw. Did anybody else notice how high the pll votage spikes under load? My multimeter is showing 1.63v-1.66v under load with pll voltage set to 1.5v in bios. Dropping it down to 1.45v keeps it under 1.55v under load.
mysterfix nice clock with low voltages.damn i got to get me a low vid chip.
Same VID(1.1875) same batch L828A446 as yours.
Owned mine a couple of months running it at 4.125GHz on 1.248Vcore. The one I've got here only requires 1.15VTT up through 1900FSB (475x9)
How's yours on the VTT?
Mine is also HOT, I'm on air but all the same, I'd go faster if I could dump the heat.
Hey mate
Mine's was tested by Jor3lBR in Arizona I got 11 hours blend + IBT + OCCT on
486x9 (4374) with mems on 1166 tight timmins at 1,36vcore cpuz / 1,3vtt / 1,5pll
alsto at 4400 and 4500Mhz till 1,3932vcore cpuz / 1,34vtt
Im now testing lower volts on all to find a sweet spot on speed and temps in my country.
Cheers
Sergio
anyone here have an extra 9650 with low vid that they want to sell?preferably 1.21 or lower
I have a request: this is actually OC decorum, call it what you will; please post your stability screenshots with coretemp, preferably, something showing motherboard/system temp as well so that folks know which milestones are easily duplicable based on ambients. Temps make all the difference with overclocks, and with these chips and the speeds we're seeing, these infos can save members a lot of hassle. Even if you can't show screenshots of temps, try as much as possible to indicate temps in writing; eg. ambient = 20c. Thanks.
Richard.
what do you mean by fancy SS?i want a low vid chip so i can run it at 9x500+ without having to pump it with too much vcore(1.40 to 1.45 is what my 1.25vid chip needsto run above 4400)
Thank you all for the compliments
@Radaja - 9oC blowing inside the case is great and you should be fine at 1.6vmch, I find that after 4500Mhz I need that to stabilize everything.
In my stability findings the Q9650 won't like anything beyond 65oC for long stress tests and the NB likes to stay below 50oC.
Above those temps anything can cause a Prime or IBT fail easily, despite stable settings and volts.
The Standard vs Turbo profile will play a huge role too, first stabilize everything is Standard/Auto then go the huge quest to Turbo/Manual PL8, sometimes this last one can drive you nuts on 10k, 1024k, 768k FTT's.
thanks for the advice jor3lbr,very much appreciated.
I am no expert at any of this by any means. Having issues with learning to oc a quad. In the past though I haven't had any better luck with low vid chips, It seems to be more the percentage of voltage increase from stock vid than the actual number (1.40-1.45 or whatever) that is needed to be stable that is important. Take a 1.15v chip and try running it at 1.4v-1.45 and watch the temps go through the roof, then take a 1.25v chip and run it at the same 1.40-1.45 and it will normally run much cooler.
Thanks bro, btw low vid chips seem to run hotter than most. I've had several of them lately and they all ran hotter than satan's but crack under load with relatively low voltage. None were ran over 1.36v but they all broke 60ºc during stress testing. And this is with water cooling, apogee gt with an mcr 220 QP.
My ambeint varies from 18ºc-21ºc depending on weather or not the furnace is running.
yes i understand about low vid chips.ive owned a low vid e8400and i have good enough cooling to run it at high clocks.and the thing is i personally dont want to run 1.40 through my chip, i want under 1.40 and still be able to go past 4400 like the other low vid high clockers in this thread.why is everyone trying to keep me from doing this?i know what i want,i just need to get the right chip.
I didn't mean it like that, I was just sharing my insight with you. I'm not trying to steer you away from a low vid chip. Just giving you a heads up incase you didn't know.:)
yea i know.that last part i was kidding
Guys
I know it isn't the right thread :( but anyone knows if TT PSU's have an internal pot to adjust 12V rails ? I've been searching a lot and i can't find anything...
Sorry but i need that help
Cheers
Sergio
not sure about the TT 850W but i think the PcPower&cooling 860W does
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703013
oh i see. sorry i cant help you on that
My chip has a vid of 1.15 according to Coretemp and realtemp.
It runs fairly cool and requires 1.32v for 4300MHz, have yet to test anything higher. It does however have 1 stuck sensor, core 1 always reads 10c higher on idle but is right inline on full load with the other 3 cores so it does not bother me.
I might sell it, will make my mind up later this weekend, if everything pans out I'll be moving to i7 Tuesday and will no longer want/require this chip.
PM me if your interested in it.
for the life of me i just cannot get this stable. i get either a bluescreen or a failure of prime/occt about 5-10min in. im using Jor3lBR's template for 4.41ghz
the only things i changed are i set the ram to 1:1 (333mhz strap 2.0 multi) and DRAM voltage to 2.1. the driving strength profiles, channel a & b, should i set those to 1066? i've even gone a notch or two higher Vcore, giving me 1.392 windows and still no go. grrr.... its odd because, i boot into windows in under 30sec, just like i do now @ stable settings, everything seems smooth and groovy. i dont know how to tell if i need more vcore or if its the mch/cpu ref values that need tweaking.Code:Q9650 489 X 9 4401MHz

I've had similar problems today with my new Q9650 E0 (L844B703). I had same symptoms a you have. Windows seems stable and all.
I just finished 5 hours priming small fft's with Prime95 at 4300Mhz (9x478) @ 1.344v and 1.31 vTT. I decided to run the Blend test for futher stability testing.
To my surprise it crapped out on me after only 5 seconds.
I've been spending all afternoon trying to get it stable. First I thought it was the ram (I have 4x1024 OC Flex PC9600 installed) but even with running a 1:1 divider and PL of 10 Prime still errord after 5 second s of blend. As it turns out, it was the chipset. After upping vNB from 1.39v to 1.47v and changing NB GTL Ref from .63x to .67x my problems seem to be solved. :) (still in the proces of Blend testing at the moment)
I think that Linpack does the right work fast..
BTW today i got my q9650 as well.. L826A974 pack date:01/28/09..vid 1.25...looks promising
Thats an old template I posted. Today you can use 1.30vtt for those speeds.
The problem is thats not magic, you wont be able to use it for your cpu like that. First you need to find YOUR cpu sweetspots (CPU Ref and MCH Ref) that are different then mine.
Also I would suggest starting with less ambition. Try 8 x 500 first, memtest #7 and then go to prime small, prime large, ibt.
Until you get the MCH and CPU ref for your cpu you will get a hole lot of instability.
I can only get my q9650 100% stable at 4050mhz. I have a high vid of 1.262. I honestly don't think that the VID and the CPU is the problem.
I think I'm Stuck inbetwen MB dividers and my memory is not fast enough to step up to the next functional divider for my Motherboard!
I unfortunately bought OCZ (2x2GB) DDR3 Reaper 1333 9-9-9-20. My OCZ Reaper will not overclock anything above rated so I'm stuck with that speed.
My theory is that the Memory is ruining all my fun. My problem is that I can not find a divider that works well with my DDR3 at the slow speed that it can produce.
To test my theory I bought faster Memory of a different brand. I have not yet received it yet. But as soon as I get it I hope to prove that a poor overclocking Q9650 will do great with faster memory. Just because with a faster memory you are more likely to find a working MB divider.
If someone with knowledge can shed some light on the whole MB divider issue it would be appreciated.
In my past experience the CPU will open up full throttle when the memory speed or the MB divider is not limiting it.
You are most likely now thinking duh,,, that is a given. Of course it is, but we don't know what works from the beginning. Someone has to find the right settings!
Look at the Guys who do have great clocks on their Cpu's. They are certainly not memory speed limited! So they can use any divider they want!!!
I wish we could try to figure out what dividers work for different memory speeds like:
(PC3 8500)
(PC3 10666)
(PC3 12800)
(PC3 14400)
(PC3 15000)
(PC3 16000)
(PC2 to of cource)
That way all of us would know what kind of cpu performance to expect from a certain memory speed. Not the advertised memory speed but the actual memory speed. Since some memory overclocks quit well.
If you have a memory that can only do 13330 as fastest then expect 4ghz
if you have a memory that can only do 14400 as fastest then expect 4,4ghz with the memory divider that is possible use and so on.....
If we did. Then a guy with PC3 13333 would stop chasing the magical 5ghz
Maybe I'm all confused about this but....... In the past when I have been stuck at a certain overclock and later got my hands on faster memory and seen the results...... It just make me think!!!!
Extremsys Gurus,,, Shed some light on this!
Prove me Wrong or Right!
