Water cooling the Asus Maximus SE X38

I think lapping helps for sure. There have been too many good reports confirming lower temps, and less of a temp difference between cores after...

We will just have to see how your D-TEK likes your CPU thinner, flatter, and now copper faced. :)

This was my first time lapping too, and we both had the go-nads to do it on a quad to hone our skills. :p:

I think that says were the kind of guy's that like to live on the edge... :yepp: :cool:

Hey Tom!
Have been meaning to ask you about the backplates.
Are you guys going to do one for all the mosfet and or chipset blocks you sell? ATM its a bit patchy. There's one for the first EK 680i mosfet block but not for the second etc.
Would like to be able to get a set for the 680i board and the Maximus board etc.
Any thoughts?

I would def rec the white slots first. BTW, The guys I used to talk :banana::banana::banana::banana: about, because they used a credit card or something to disperse the TIM instead of a blob in the middle, I owe them an apology. I like using the same razor blade I use to see if any light escapes through the irregularities on the IHS, to spread the TIM as even as I can get it. Lapping my G6600 and rotating the GTX did nothing here except lower core temps 4*C. Core 1&2 still up to 10*C higher than core 33&4 on idle...

ok after some work im now at this with the only one issue my phase change unit is at its max. working to get that a little better i can only test and be safe for about 2 min before the cpu temp is getting to the point where my motherboard can actualy read it. LOL thats at about -13c its just to warm. last pic is NB temp NB volt never changed

yes but its on the edge of ok, well im on the edge of WTF for overclocking this high but this is why i built the system this way
List of things that helped

q6700 high multiplyer and i only paid $150 for it new LOL sorry
asus maximus formula ya
ek water blocks all around with a thermochill rad and swiftech rad
then jin phase change
and a thermaltake 1200watt psu
and overclocking work from all the way back to the p4 1.3ghz

Quality parts, and you know your :banana::banana::banana::banana:!! Wicked combo.

I myself have the parts anyway.... ;)

in time it will come ps list of overclocks i can remember they are all 24/7 minus the current 4.2 that is still in tunning and testing.

pentium 4 1.3ghz @ 1.5ghz My first pc and it was a dell with not a bios overclock but i windows software over ride overclock and good old windows ME was on air

ps NB was load tested for 1.6min and was at 24c with the 4.2 oc the volts on the NB are the same as before.

Gents, some questions
1) Does anyone know how many litels of liquid i need to fill up a PA120.3?
2) taking the fact that i will use the onboard heatpipe. how did you do with leak testing the system? was everytning build outside the case and them put into the case? several posts in the forum mention that all testing has been done outside the case. so i get that. but having the pa120.3 mounted at the bottom of the stacker 832 and the mobo on the backplate the only thing i can think of is by putting the chassi on the side, so if any leaks, the cooling drops to the floor, keep the cpu block not installed and the pump-reservoir on the side.

Still waiting for my kit to arrive so i a can start building

1) Not sure but I can tell you that your entire loop will require about 1/2 a gallon of distilled water fill it up.

2) Testing for leaks with the ROG cooling attached to the mobo can be done. I would not have the PC your testing in have it's power supply on. I would run the pump from another power source.

You wouldn't be the first to leak test inside the case. :)
It is however is a gamble, and should be monitored closely!!

Just finish flushing the PA120.3 took about 1/2 liters to fill it up.
I have a ATX PSU starter 20pin adapter and will try to fire it up that way.
cabling etc will be not connected ofcourse.

Definitely yes! Squizing the most out of our machines is I think our priority. If enything can be done to make it go faster we'll give it a go. Thanks again and best of luck and patience with your rig. Below are my idle temps - need to wait for TIM to settle and for the loop to get rid of air completely before I start recording proper temps.

Glad the Maximus fired up for you, and proof that your lapping didn't cause any permanent damage to your quad! Always a good thing when you have been playing with a pricey chip in your hand.... :up:

Where can I get temperature sensors to attach to my Maximus?

You mean like extra ones? Unless we have some vacant spots on the mobo to hook some extra ones up, I believe we would need some type of a temperature monitoring kit...

Well. I am not sure why but I actually feel lucky today...

The air is filled with anticipation again that my EK NB block, and CPU backplate may arrive (Double confirmed launched from EK on Dec. 20th).

Crazy I know, but I just feel extra positive about it today. :)

Looks 100% correct to me...

Pump is being fed from the res, pump is pushing directly into the rad, cooled rad water directly to the CPU block, a quick trip over to the NB, and back to the res.

I think that would be pritty much set for optimum performance. :up:

The T-line is also located in a good spot.

Update: Opps, you have your in line going to the D-TEK, currently not going into the center 'IN' hole...

You would need to change that.

The center barb is IN on the D-TEK block.

@neo_rtr, I have to ask... is that Maximus a 3D SketchUp rendering from SketchUp Components Collection? If it is, then thats one of my renderings...thanks for using it.

Mail came today.... no EK block for me yet.

Those are Thermalright HR-05, on the final build I attached some Evercool 70x15mm Aluminum fans to each of them and they have been cooling very well so far.

From the Thermochill site downloaded the pdf file with the dimension of the radiator. I layout the cut diagram for my stacker 832 case.
Had to resize it and did miss out on some of the holes by a 1-2 mm
So redrawn it and this one should be accurate.
