Nah, vaseline around the socket area.
I strongly advise you guys not to put any vaseline or any kind of dielectric grease in the nasty LGA1156/LGA1366 sockets.
It can only give you troubles ( most of the time losing memory channels on i7 ).
If your insulation around the socket area and between the socket & your pot is good then there's no need for any kind of insulation in the socket.
I'll take some pics when I receive my new Classified 3 in a few days.
Thanks Hondacity! :)
The next session will have to wait, I'm back in Munich, the semester starts tomorrow! ;)

great work Don_Dan!
hey guys I got a quick question on 2d. i have noticed alot of clockers use a low-end graphics card for 2d.
does this have a benefit? if so... what is the most preferred card for 2d runs?
Any card works as long as it displays resolutions higher than 1024x768 with default Microsoft VGA driver. People often use old, crappy VGAs because they don't require additional power.
yo stevero
nice work...you're starting tobe addicted LOL
Yep, nice going SteveRo!

And thanks for pushing us over 16k! :)
Good job man
Good evening all,
Trying to come up with a decent pcmark05 score for the October HWBOT OC Challenge.
The config is as follows:
GGBT EP45T mobo with Celeron single core 440 @ 4500 with old 2x1GB @ 900 7-6-5-2T.
Vga subsystem is ATI 5870 @ 1025/1300 @ 1.3v and fan on full.
Storage is Areca 1880 4GB cache with 12xAcard9010
OS is fully updated – no registry tweaks – vistaX32.
I need help!
I’m getting dismal scores and need help with –
Transparent windows – 1595 :(
Web page rendering – 2.74 :(
Graphics memory – 3400 :(
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Up ya ram clocks man,try another ram divider and lower the PL for more boost...
Have you tried another ATI driver ? Scores seem indeed very low for that GPU... though it almost beats my 480 card :) Nvidia 4 series is no good for PCmark :( Is Aero really on ?
Install your Dominator GT 2000C7 and go for 1:2 CL7-7-7-21, or tighter if possible of course, and change your PL, try 7, that should be doable.
What's your NB voltage?
I'm having a terrible time uping the memory, I seem to have best luck leaving all the v's on auto except for cpuv (1.86 - probably higher than it needs to be) and dram (1.6v).
Is PL the memset "performance level?
Yes, I have tried different ATI driver, no joy. I wonder if 8x is holding back the 5870. I'm using an areca 1880 in the other slot. :(
I will try again but so far I haven't been able to get the GTc7's to even boot at a reasonable overclock. I'm on EP45T-USB3P bio F2d.
Is PL the memset "performance level?
What nb voltages should work for the dominators?
I would love to get the dominators to work in this board!
I think that might help the scores!
You're using value RAM right now, aren't you? Don't run auto, Gigabyte boards like to set extremely high voltages when pushed like that. What's your NB voltage?
I still think your Hypers will be performing a lot better, and raise your Vdimm, 1.6V is pretty low. 1.65-1.7V should be fine, at least for the Corsair kit.
Yes, tRD=PL=Performance Level.
Oh, ninja-edit ^^
I'm using 1.4V NB voltage on my P45.
Take out the Areca and check graphics memory score. It might be the reason.
Did you try the other memory slots?
Linuxfan got his Hypers to ~800MHz CL6-6-6-18 on the EP45T-UD3LR, but it was a tough fight as well. That's why I think P45+DDR3 is the worst combination ever.
Ok - making some progress with the dominator 2kc7's :)
This is with MCH core at 1.48v and dramv at 1.78v.
cpu @ 4300, no oc on the vc, no Areca, x25-v as the boot and HDD target drive
Not done yet but doing much better! :yepp:
Thanks for all the help guys!

Keep pushing SteveRo!
Nice work on that Q6600!
Needs moar FSB!!!11one
As for DDR3 and P45 - LGA775 chipsets sometimes need high vDIMM for high FSB/memory clocks, regardless if the memory is capable of doing the same at lower volts. So new gen 1,65 V sticks are not a good choice usually. Unless you have something based on Elpida Hypers that can take 2,2 V daily and not degrade (GoodRAM PRO  ).
2 GB sticks are also sub-optimal. I've had best results on P45 with 2x1 GB D9 Dominators (1000 7-6-5-18 in 3dm01).
Good morning Mr. Foyle, Yes, I suspected this ram was not optimal but its what I have and its probably better than the value ram I was using before.
I am currenty at FSB speed of 1720, what would you recommend I try and what MCH/dram voltages would you recommmend?
Appreciate all the help!
Mr Linuxfan, much thanks.
As much as the CPU can do - high FSB will increase memory bandwidth dramatically. Try around 510 x 8,5 with 3:5 memory divider, if the CPU is capable of such high FSB.
The 3.33 (3:5) divider is borked, it doesnt run at its rated speed and is really only a 3.00 (2:3) divider. The only real option for higher fsb is the 3.20B (5:8).
Nice work!
Did you lose some FSB frequency, or can you still go up to 450MHz like in your previous result?
Any chance you can run 7-7-7-24 and tighten down the PL to 8 at those clocks? PL7 is probably too much to ask for from that poor little NB. :D
I doubt the CPU can do that kind of FSB speed, most of the other Celerons have even lower FSB walls, this one is quite good in fact.
It's worth a try of course, but I'm not very confident it's possible.
It's only bugged on the 400 strap, isn't it? However, running the 200 strap should be pretty hard on the board, so 5:8 is probably the best choice when using higher FSB speeds.
Thanks guys, you're the best! :yepp:
Making progress finally! :) - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm05=2350100

Thankfully LGA775 days are over and I can forget all that arcane knowledge :P
UNcle steve kicking ass! Steve we need the almighty celeron 356 if we're gonna take this. I'm looking on ebay. I knew I shoulda never sold that rampage formula! I still have a p5k3 dlx. steve does your board have 2x16x? Looking back now I went about this contest the wrong way. I hastily went on newegg and found the only single core 775 chip 430 and with a multi of 9. that was retarded on my part. In retrospect ebay is the answ. screw the amd 140-145. that chip tops off at 5.6-6ghz if lucky and you would need the biostar ddr2 board Chew has to hit any decent HT at 400 or above. the ddr3 amd boards cant do that 400. he explained it to me when I benched with him a couple weeks ago. he's right. if you look at the amd dudes on ddr3 boards they can only hit those clocks with the Black cpus with the unlocked multis on ddr3. If you want to take this thing on ddr3 on single core then it has to be cedar mill and x48 or similar. Think about it. If I had a x48 board that has true x16x x16 slots I could use the lsi 9260 with the fastpath key and 3x 50gb vertex2 in raid0 and run that off the 2nd x16 slot. get a decent 356 cedarmill on ln2 and we would have this whole damn thing in no time. FACK! I wonder if our brother Paul (computurd) has any of his old 775 crap. if I remember correctly he had the WS and a bunch of other crap.
I know its been a while dudes but take a look at the single core king.
http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/...tab=2drankings
steve you are one multi up from what I had with the 430 and at a measly 4.300 @ 1.9v on your cascade. wouldnt it be easier with x25 multi? you get the picture...
we went about this thing all wrong.
any xs dudes with old cedar mills get your asses in here!
THis pc mark stage is simple:
all you need to win this is some ln2,
a cedar mill 356 or similar,
some decent ddr3,
a board with x16 x 16 or a x16 and x8 slot,
a lsi 9260-4i/8i or steves ram drive
and a 5850 or higher,
some beer.
You're forgetting that Cedar Mills are slow as hell clock for clock. I still think Sempron 140 can take the win and I'm gonna try to prove it :)
I think you might be right.
Comparing several celeron vs sempron transparent windows scores, -
it looks like - at the same clocks - sempron is about twice as fast as the celerons.
All else equal, a sempron based system should win the pcm05 stage.
That said, am I the only one using an Areca/Acard setup for storage?
edit - the GGBT EP45T mobo drops to 8x/8x when both pcie's are occupied.
I think that is hurting me in my vga scores.
Guys - question - is H/W sharing amongst the team allowed for the HWBOT OC Challenge?
If there was a team member close to me that had a sempron setup, i could take my Areca/Acards to him?
Technically speaking, PCMark05 is a 2D test, so you can't share a CPU, but you can share everything else, including storage setups.
If wish my C4F liked Semprons :(
It looks like (at single core speeds anyway) 8x/8x pcie is not impacting vga scores after all -
compare -
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm05=2350100
- score 13806 with Areca 1880 in the 2nd pcie slot
to
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm05=2350091
- score 10781 w/o Areca - all other settings kept constant
Also - looks like the areca/acard setup gets me something like 3k points :D
edit - over an x25-v that is (irams are probably much closer)
It must be the general weakness of LGA775 then. If only Conroe Celerons did 600 fsb...
Steve the x8 x8 x16 issue is good to know. Thanks for posting that. yeah the hit is not a big one at all. I ordered another 145 and a 2nd am3 board to try this on. You guys are right. I never thought about how efficient the architecture has improved since the time of 775. I ordered a board and another 145. good luck to you all if you wanna share a tip I'd love to learn more about pc2005. I never intend on winning these contests. I know I suck but I still wanna thrash with the heavy dudes.
Nice score! :D
Congrats for taking down the 1x WR!
We're back in the lead in HWBot's OC Challenge October! :)
PS:
LGA775 will never die! :p:
Going to be testing 2x and 3x GTX 480s on water with a 980x also on water this next week. No LN2 or DICE for this round unfortunately... Will be fun anyway. :D
Thanks guise :)
Excellent work Mr Foyle! :up::clap:
Job well done!
Nice scores guys

A special congrats to NAMEGT for bringing the WPrime 3x WRs back home to XS where they belong!
@ namegt
세계 기록 이름 GT으로 축하합니다! 당신이 엉덩이를 걷어!
A quick update with today's scores, I will probably post another update later:
http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/7...ber31st201.jpg
G.Foyle has posted his 16k PCMark 05 single core WR, and SteveRo has pushed his Q6600 to 4.3GHz and scored 25619 points in one of his favourite benchmarks, PCMark 05.
Then we have zeneffect who is pushing the GTX 460 he won at Blizzcon for the Asus 1156 competition.
Last but not least, SteveRo has run all the 2D benchmarks on his Celeron 440 and scored a fair amount of points as well.
Good work guys!
We passed 16200 points this weekend!
Edit:
In the 6th stage of the Asus competition which ended about an hour ago three of our members participated again. FUGGER came in 5th, Brian 7th and zeneffect 10th. In the Overall Rankings Brian is now at 4th place, FUGGER is ranked 7th and zeneffect 9th.
HWBot's OC Challenge October 2010 ended just a few minutes ago, and we were able to win this competition, thanks to an excellent team effort! Especially chew*, SteveRo and G.Foyle have been pushing hard in this competition.
Great work everyone!
Thanks Mr. Don, alright - we won! go team!
edit - November's hwbot competition is pcmv! All right!
I think I can make a contribution to the team for this one too. :yepp:
Either chew* or NAMEGT, they have the best 3 core WPrime scores of the team.
I have a 920 D0 on the way but Computurd already has an excellent 4x score - can he submit it even though it was prior to 01Nov?
edit - Mr Massman answered in the bot thread - older submissions are fine as long as they conform to the other submission rules.
A 920 will boost your scores a bit, and it's also worth lots of points!
Massman replied in the HWBot forums:
Just had a look at his score, he only has a verification link, not sure if a screenshot is needed in this competition. But it's indeed an excellent score, why did he choose not to participate in the rankings?Quote:
Yeah, limited to 4x CPU because I want to see CPU limited runs :-)
Older benches can be submit as long as they fit the limitations
Based on the competition requirements/rules - I'll need to rerun my previous submissions, I don't have cpuz showing mobo and pcmv window showing my subscores - this is included in the futurmark validation link but the futurmark link is not sufficient for this competition. :(
Everyone - Don't forget to get these in your screenshots!
Futuremark link instead of "cpuz showing mobo and pcmv window showing subscores" may not fly. :(
ORB is pretty weak at displaying accurate hardware info so everyone should prefer to have both screenshot and link. I hate when someone submits a PCMark score based on the link only or pic only.
nice job everyone in the oct contest. I got ln2 and ended up working all weekend. :(. i was unable to get past 350 ht on the asus m489gtd pro/usb3. nice htt but not enough to get the single core scores I needed for anything decent. nice board though. I also managed to kill my 5850 by pulling it out of the board while without discharging the board. oops.
Mr. Transam - sorry to hear about you 5850 (tuff luck) but now you have an excuse to get a 5870!
And if that wasnt enough I score 25k in pcmark05 last night on a x3 and 5770 but couldnt submit because the 05install gave me a corrupt submission file. I cant win! yeah the 5850 is a bummer. I think Im gonna wait for the 6900 series to arrive. if they are really supposed to come out before jan I can wait a month. can you belive its already november!!? what the november contest supposed to be?
PCMark Vantage on different cored CPUs. I'm especially interested whether Core 2 Duo or Phenom II X2 will take the dual core crown.
Myself I'm probably not going to play this month (had to return the SSDs).
Mr Foyle - 2x core - best score should be an intel dual core 32nm with HT and with the new instruction set - wait - do the Phenom's have the instruction set?
edit - http://software.intel.com/en-us/arti...tructions-set/
maybe just intel has this then.
Mr Transam - I wouldn't know for sure but I would doubt that would keep you from getting a score.
I got a score and I have that pcmark file saved but its useless without that orb link. for the record this is pretty amazing for a 5770 on a x3.
guys i just bought the pcvantage so I can participate in this months contest. Ive never ran pcvantage. How long should it actually take? I dont have much ln2 left.
For your four core, if everything is set up ahead of time and nothing goes wrong - you can get a run in, connect to internet to get your score and take your screen shot in 20 minutes.
That said, seldom have I been satisfied with my first run.
edit - hey, nice pcm05 score by the way, good job!
Duh, I forgot clarkdales were dual cores :( shame, I'd like to see a fight between a 6 GHz E8600 and a 6,5 GHz Phenom II :)
Okay, we lost more than 100 points today, anyone know why?
Edit: Looks like most of the other team lost about the same amount as well.
Edit2: Turrican has confirmed it's a database issue...
@trans am: Sorry to hear about your loss!
yikes I was doing some pcmvantage runs on my 24/7 rig and kept seeing 1hr for test completion. Duh you only have to select the 1st one "pcmark vantage suite" now its showing as 25min eta. FYI for those that have no clue about this bench like me.
just need that 1st one checked for a score. this is a very time consuming bench and you will need to be patient. if you are on ln2 or dice be prepared to spend a lot of money this month. Im grateful that I dont have to buy any hardware this month as its pretty backwards compatible hdwr wise but the ln2 costs are going to be up there this month. guys on raid cards and fancy video cards please do not make the same mistake I did. I know its a long run and you can be pounding beers during the bench and get sloppy. make sure to power your boards down with a full discharge meaning hit the psu swith off or even unplug completely and then hold your power switch for a good five seconds before doing any board heating with the hairdryer or pci/pcie slot swaps. massman was nice enough to keep this one pretty cheap. lets not kill hdwr by dumb mistakes.
******************************************EDIT
so I just ran the suite and I get no results message. wtf is happening here? this is the same install as the pcmark 05 one I couldnt submit earlier. note I ran them with the lan connected. should I take the lan off? did I shut off something in the services.msc that I shouldnt have? Im about to reinstall everything and start over. this is horsecrap! If I am on 64 bit os on the pcm vantage runs should I select run 64bit shortcut or jsut keep the regular 32 bit? any help guys lemme know. the ln2 is on the line.
********edit AGAIN FIXED*************
okay i dont know what I did but I restarted and unlugged the lan and ran it as 64 bit on win7 64 and was able to get a score. I have the 3 core top spot as of now using the 5770 and the cpu at 4.1ghz. ram is slacked looser than madonna fyi.

Hi guys, I joined the flotilla. :toast:
First noob question - to the HWbot challenges standings or "position" points add to the team or just the points for the results themselves?
Sorry I can't help with PCM Vantage, never ran it myself. But since I'd like to compete in this month's challenge, despite having just one Vertex 2 drive, I will sure have a lot of questions. :D
ahoj Aerou!
: Přípitek:: toast2: nazdrovi!
This guy is czech and i have a very high respect for czechs and koreans.
if you guys dont know me my mom is half german and , english and korean ...
my dad is czech, norwegian and german. I try the best to speak every language of my heritage. its not easy. thats why when namegt posts something amazing (usually every time he makes a submission I tell him in korean language." this is the 1st time ive seen a fellow czech/xs member in with us so I told him welcome to the club and steve ro is my uncle and he loves to bench pcmark. I also kindly asked him to say hi to his family from the old country for me and that my actual name is alvin hajek but in the states we say hayek because in czech the j is prounced as a "Y". now all I need is a german and a norwegian in here and I can call it a day.
I was doing a side by side comparison with uncle steve and he is kicking my ass in the HDD benches. steve I am doing what you do but I am running my lsi at the same settings in the 05 runs. i think this calls for write through. ;)
@ steve get in here asap or call me. Tell mrs. Ro you will be right back and you need to use the computer for a second and you will get in the bed in 5 min. guys, steve wakes up very early and he is probably already in bed so this is probably useless. steve has to wake up around 5am east coast time and that is why sometimes you see him make submissions at 4am before work. its not because hes been benching straight for 10 hrs. its because he just woke up and wants to make his submissions before he goes to work. meanwhile Im going to be at 4am and have to get to work at 9:30. so when steve is submitting I am going to bed. when I am eating breakfast steve has already had lunch. we're both in the same time zone and the same team/country fyi. have a good day at work steve. im going to bed.
green is TA and red is steven
Aerou, jen ty nejlepší bodů z týmu se bude zobrazovat jako příspěvek. Jen uložení nejlepší, co mají a předložit později po soutěži, pokud dont počítat.
i said only the best points from the team member with the highest score will count as this is a team effort. but save your results for later and you can always submit for personal points if you dont have the top spot for the team.
this contest is for those with heavy hdd setups. the guys on raid cards and raid ssd or memdrives are going to have the heavy scores. I have been on massman for months trying to get a dedicated hdd bench for hwbot. he always says to run the pc marks as they are the hdd benches for us. if you have a great hdd raid setup and always wanted to participate in hwbot challenges this is what you've been waiting for.
Mr. Hájek, I can't believe. I already love it here :D
Just so I understand the HDD part correctly - have two drives, one for system and PCM Vantage, but for the HDD tests, select in advanced options the separate, clean Vertex 2 drive?
BTW I have an old Dell Perc 6/i controller. Could it be useful for this comp?
Welcome to the team
exactly. the dell might not work well with the ssds so just run off the onboard. try it but I think the onboard will be better since its newer.
i benched again and got 15541 in 3 core. check it out. http://hwbot.org/community/submissio...40_15541_marks
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcmv=382157
Good morning all, Couldn't sleep.
Transam sir, excellent work! Take a screen shot of your pcmv results "details" and post that screenshot in your hwbot submission.
It is easy to get to from your "all results" screen on the orb.
I think this is a reqt for all submissions.
almighty then. battle stations!
Alright CT! Glad you will play!
Everyone - we don't need to worry about our 4x core - score.
CT should be able to post a very good one.
Good morning again Mr Transam,
The pcmv run of mine that you are looking at above was 6xAcardR0, ich10R, 4k stripe, wbc enabled :)
Areca and 5870 do not like to coexist on this mobo for some odd reason.
Not sure if it is a P55 limitation or just this mobo implementation of it, bios?, ...
Might be insufficient pcie bandwidth.
Hi Aerou:welcome:
And excellent work trans_am. Guys, please try to get a Sempron system - with your storage setups you'll pwn this month's competition.
Mr Foyle, I was going to try with a celeron 440 setup (already have this) but yes I agree Sempron would be better.
Which sempron and which mobo would you recommend for this?
edit - Which sempron mobo's have 2x 16x pcie if any?
One for 5860 the other for raid controller.
Steve I would try an ch4 extreme for a ddr III board........
If that is not the price range you want I would say look at the boards used in sempy wprime rankings. The giga's do high htt at the cost of using ddr II.
You wan't to avoid the biostar that I use, its a tad tricky to work with and is known to eat cpu's like it did this last competition ( ate 2 of mine and 1 of transams). ;)
I can't be much use this comp, no more semprons and don't have necessary storage devices, although I do have some chip for 3 core class that I think i could get stable at 6 gig if someone wanted to toss there storage setup on it.
im using the Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 it has 2 x16 but runs them at x8/x8, and dedicated x4.
the board is great and I am loving it so far. This is the cheaper alternative to the crosshair but you dont get x16/x16.
just go on newegg and look for open box deals on boards with 790fx/890fx chipsets.
You don't need 16x + 16x - VGA will do fine with just x8 (tested in last months compo).
