Xtreme Twinmos Memory!

Hi all again :)

I'm back with my new mobo IC7-MAX3 and my new shiny prescott :)

And there's definetly something wrong with this ram and Asus P4P800, cauze i barely hit 212 on that mobo and on this...

ATM I'm at 243 mhz 2-2-2-5 everything else set to AUTO. No mods done, and ddr voltage set to 3.2 (I'll get ddr booster in a couple of days...). Since i'm pretty new to this mobo I have no idea how to set those "auto" values... pls gimme some advices.

And what do you think, with ddr booster, will I be able to hit 275 without the vtt mod, cauze that's about where my pressy maxs out?

It could be the difference between 1T and 2T command rate, if thats what Auto is doing on the new board.

auto, normal,auto or 5/4 4 is better, disabled, disabled

Was able to do 245 with this settings, 260 still far away...I think i need some ddr booster

I like mwave mainl becasue they have a will call. I'm the type of guy that needs the part "YESTERDAY" :)

Its nice its only like 10 min from my house and office. I wish NewEgg had a will call.

mWave could easily compete w/ newegg if their site was designed better. I always get frustrated trying to "Window Shop" at mwave. If I have a particular item I want, then its easy to get it.

NewEgg is great for just crusing around and "looking" at stuff.

Edit: Yes.. TMSP 512 are IMPOSSIBLE to get. You have to be on the Autonotify list and purcahse within the hour of the e-mail you get. If not, you end up getting one stick like me :P I went ahead and purchased teh ValueVX instead.

Just to confirm, my 2 512M stick of SP from last weeks release came in. They are running 215Mhz 1T in the NF7-S @ 3.20Vdimm. Ill move them to this machine for 3.5V testing later today.

They are week 6 2005 UTT 44D chips.

Same chips mine have that I got a couple weeks ago, they do 240+ at 2-2-2, 3.3v in my NF7-S. I say 240+ because dual channel is board limited to about 233 and single channel one hits 244 without many errors and the other hits 248, board gets flaky at that fsb though. Of course, its on a cheapy 300w psu for testing :)

Initial findings arent great, but arent bad either. This pr matches the 2nd best set I got out of the shipment of 4 pr's of the non-SP stuff. With a 235Mhz 1T 8,2,2,2.0 @ 3.36Vdimm result. The previous 2nd-best set did 238Mhz @ 3.4Vdimm.

Going higher on V only pisses it off, making me think maybe the stickers are an issue....preventing cooling on some of the chips. Ill burn them in a while, and then remove the stickers and try again. The SP's have MORE sticker on them than the TMII's do.

So my 1st best set....245Mhz+ @ 3.5Vdimm (hitting NForce2 memory controller wall) are a miracle set that likely do 260-270Mhz in an A64. Time will tell. Going 2T did not help the results.

Which may again point me to heat being an issue with the stickers being just enough of a heat blanket to make trouble. I have a fan blowing directly on the sticks, but if the stickers act as a blanket, this limits the fan's affectiveness.

I don't think the stickers are a real problem, I have a fan blowing over mine and the stickers don't feel any hotter than the other chips. They definitely need a fan though, even with 3.3v they get HOT running Test 5 in Memtest86!

Probably, they had some show up in stock about a week ago. I just missed out or I would have bought another pair! I got mine from Newegg about 3 weeks ago when the second batch was in.

I know this is a TwinMos thread..

While I'm waiting for my TwinMOS SP to get back in stock, and to get the RMA for my OCZ ValueVX. I think I will play with TCCD a bit.

Is there any "CHEAP" TCCD out there? I know its off topic, but want to give it a try.

Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Interesting thing, this new set of UTT doesnt like 3.5V, gets errors in test#2 and #5 with Vdimm over 3.36V.

Guess to match my best set, Ill have to pony up the $$ for OCZ4000VX.

Strange that its fussy with 3.5V. I just want 1 good kit of UTT. Both sets I have had have had 1 good stick with one blah stick lol.

I have a couple gigs going into the for sale forum if anyone is interested since these are hard to get. they are alrdy tested, details in for sale post. The only reason I am selling them is because 253 fsb is not high enuff for me to max out my cpu, I got a nice 3000 win, but 250 hardly gets me past anything worth watercooling.

I have a couple gigs of SP UTTgoing into the for sale forum if anyone is interested since these are hard to get. they are alrdy tested, details in for sale post. Well, these sticks are WEIRD.

One passes 250Mhz flawlessly now after some burnin (SP primes stable @ 245Mhz, 3D stable 250Mhz) The other stick passes same BUT.... gets an error in memtest #2 ?? Same place everytime but no errors in other tests and no failure in Windows use of any kind. SP prime stable @235Mhz, and this is at 3.25Vdimm not 3.5Vdimm. Ill have to go do Windows testing on the Infinity @ 3.5V. But it gets the test#2 error on Infinity or NF7-S and at any Mhz...200-250. and any timings 11,3,3,2.5 to 8,2,2,2.0; I just dont know what to make of the result.

I ordered 2 more sticks, see if I cant get a second stick that does 250Mhz solid without weirdness.

Oh course they'll have a "dying issue", people are giving them upwards of 3.5-3.6 volts! Just because the ram ICs are rated for those voltages (while properly cooled) doesn't mean all the other components on the pcb can take them. OCZ uses resisters and capacitors on their pcb's that are rated for higher voltage in their VX ram, thats why they are warranted up to 3.6v, Twinmos probably isn't using anything special on theirs.

On a side note, I just took the vdimm-vio mod off my nf7-s and am running my Twinmos SP 2x512 now at 2.6v. They clock higher at lower voltages until you exceed 3.0v, which my board can't do at stock. With 2.6v they'll do 2-3-2 at 215 MHz in my board. Seeing as how I do more school work than gaming lately I'm very happy with that setting. Plus I don't have to mod any hardware and worry about having extra fans blowing over my ram ;)

More work on these stcks.

Powering up on IDE WinXP with APIC enabled, I had no sound/lan drop out issues @ 250Mhz on stick 1, and 245Mhz on stick 2. Stick 2 has the Mtst #2 error, and wont go past 245Mhz regardless of voltage. But this is the first time ever, NO sound errors/static/silence with APIC enabled at high FSB. On all other ram ever Ive ever used, sound would die on me over 235Mhz with APIC on. the RAID0 has APIC off, I leave APIC on with the IDE install so i can easily switch back/forth for testing.

Hopefully in the next 2 sticks I can find a match to stick 1.

Stick 2 was actually the best performing UTT yet vs voltage. Doing @3.25V 245Mhz 2T 8,3,3,2.5 and 235Mhz 2T 8,2,2,2.0 and 220Mhz 1T 8,2,2,2.0 and 235Mhz 1T 8,3,3,2.5. Stick 2 max's out at 245Mhz 1T 8,2,2,2.0 @ 3.5Vdimm, so it caught up to the two UTT 50D sticks of TMII I have...245mhz max.

Stick 1 @ 3.25V wont go 1T past 210Mhz, and 235Mhz 2T 8,3,3,2.5 is best StressPrime/3D stable. But give it TheVolt (3.5Vdimm) and it shines at 250Mhz 1T 8,2,2,2.0 rock solid.

Im sure this stuff will all shine on A64, with NForce2 being so picky about things. Funny how the memtest#2 error has no effect on anthing the system does. Primes for hours, games for hours etc. Ive never seen that before, must be something interacting between NF2 controller and one of the rams, but it isnt really a defective stick. Anyone ever seen this behavior before?

Astral, a friend of mine got 1G of that Adata... turned out to be not great. Still dirt cheap, he had other uses for it. Numbers all matched, but was mediocre ram.

I switched the sticks around, #1 in dimm1 #2 in dimm3, the memtest#2 error vanished, the pr run 245mhz flawlessly dual channel 1T 8,2,2,2.0 @3.5Vdimm.

Moreover this pr, running 245Mhz have no APIC on sound/lan dropout issue. Im a happy camper. Still hope next pr has a stick that matches the #1 stick better in MHZ/Vdimm behavior and allows 250Mhz... man that last 5Mhz is a beeeatch.

uwackme | I've got a gig of SP on the way as well, still putting my stuff back together on the DFI system, should be done before they get here. Probably use the Asus to test at high voltage, have a booster that I've never used but I've heard of too many burning up on these DFI boards.

What voltage and timings did your friend test the Adata at? If they suck I'll just throw them in a folding rig.

uwackme, is there an advantage to having APIC enabled or disabled? I've always disabled it because I was told it increased overclockability on my nf7-s. Is there any performance gain either way or is it just improved compatability because of having more interrupts?

On the Adata, he tried all the way to 3.3Vdimm, nothing helped they just suk'd. he put them in a Intel machine.

On APIC.... no real reason other than supposed interupt handling improvements over non-APIC. Im sure AMD/Intel put it there for a reason, just been a bugaboo with NForce2 at high FSB's. APIC on works fine on A64 systems and P4 systems I believe. Though some benchmark numbers seem to be a smidge higher with APIC off. Real world use, I'd want APIC on if I can have it, just because I can.

Same markings as the chips I just recieved today from the egg. Burning in at 240mhz 2-2-2-5 3.2 volts no errors yet. And this is on my IS7 P4 setup. :toast:

are you guys burning in Dual Channel or Single Channel?

I'm running Abit AS8.

My single chanel is at like 250Mhz, but dual just SUCKS for me.

Any info will greatly be appreciated.

I have the same stick, week 6 05'. Burning in nicely at 250htt at 3.3v tight timings. SC on my DFI LP UT.

Mine are all dual channel, 1st set im typing on @ 250mhz, though StressPrime fails above 245Mhz after a few hours..... may easily be my CPU/Vcore not the memory. Air cooling is limiting me, water will be next purchase.

2nd set is going to get overnight burnin @ 3.25V memtest#5 230Mhz 1T 8,2,2,2.0 then I will move it to the Infinity for 3.5Vdimm testing.

3 out of 4 sets of TMII (non-SP) Twinmos are running 240-245Mhz, 4th set was DOA and sent back for RMA. So all 5 of 6 sets performed better on NForce2 then any of the BH5-BH6-CH5 ive ever owned/tested.

A serious bargain in memory no matter how you look at it.

Just placed an order on Newegg , TwinMOS Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MB x 2) DDR PC-3200, Model TMII400/1GB - OEM - Hope to overclock it up to 250MHz or more with tight timings 2.0-2-2-5-1T :slobber: Will post back with results :toast:

Unfortunately, people have been saying latest deliveries of these dont come with UTT chips on them. Im a bit worried as I RMA'd a bad UTT set back and really dont want non-UTT coming back my way.

I just got these sticks in earlier this week and they are NOT the UTT ICs. They look nothing like what was described in th opening post. Hopefully you lucked out. At their SPD timings, mine'll do 240 at 2.9V. If i increase volts, the mobo screams at me or no POST at all.

i got 2x512 sticks of the speed premiums today but one of them was DOA. =( they both looked opened (found hairs in packaging) so i decided to RMA them and get a new set. i'll post my results when i get another set.

they are not speed premiums, just 'plain' pc3200 with 50D and AA4T

Picked up a pair of these from cpucity.....they are AA4T, MTEC 50D labelled IC's on the std pcb.
CPU-Z shows them as Week 08 Year 05's......currently memtesting at 260 and 3.5v for burn-in.....no errors so far !!
But for reference, my OCZ 2 x 512 BH-5's run 265 at 3.4v....without any errors.

Second set 240Mhz StressPrime stable @ 3.5V, a little slower than set 1. We'll see after burnin at 3.5V. 3D stable at 245Mhz. A couple errors memtest#5 @ 250Mhz.

lookin' good uwackme, when you get a free minute away from that BIOS screen would you mind posting results for your new pair in my voltage scaling thread?

I'm going to include results for the new BH and the 4000VX soon as results start flooding in... would really love to see how these new BH are going to do in my hands! :D A 25watt 2200MHz Turion 1MB L2 + gig O new BH... oooh yeh!

I'm wondering when Twinmos changed their product page for Twinmos PC3200 Speed Premium to list the die used as Winbond CH-5 and the Twinmos PC3500 Speed Premium as Winbond BH-5. My pair of SP 3200 sure act like the CH-5 in that they seem more comforatable running 2-3-2 in windows. Anyone one know how I can get my hands on some of the PC3500 sticks? :confused: Although my current Twinmos 3200 SP will run test 5 errorless at 262 2-2-2-5 3.4v in memtest, they freak in Windows at just 250 same timings. :confused:

CH-5 / AA4T / AA=0,13um 4=Winbond
BH-5 / 1A4T /1A=0,15um 4=Winbond

I thought that a "4" in the third character slot meant BH-5. I'll need to take look at my sticks.

Been messing with my AA4T. Initially when I got them 1 Stick does 260 2228 @ 3.4V and the other well just plain sucked.

Anyhow, messed with the bad stick last night and it seems it's more CH-5 than it is UTT haha. Ras to cas 3 and it runs great up to 264 =/

Can you tell me exactly what do the IC's say ? I have one Mtec xxx 50D Twinmos here but i don't think it's a good overclocker... (I only have 2.85 in my bios options for vdimm) So i can't give them high voltage...

Hi, I'm new here. So I recieved these sticks and here are my results so far @ 3.3v. My board won't go any further without a volt-mod which I may attempt later on. But yeah, it's still NF2 so there's really no point. I'm sure these sticks would be amazing in an NF3/NF4 board but I don't have the money to upgrade the system at the moment.

why arent you people loosening them up to see what they can really do,, so you dont kill the stuff overvolting. i know it will handle it but for how long.

how far is this ram going when you run. 2-3-2-6 or 2.5-3-2.8 or 10
i mean no need to get all crazy and let them real loose but use realistic settings like 2.5-3-2-10 for A64 that :banana::banana::banana::banana: should crank out way past 300mhz.....

anyone tried this yet ?

I tried for 300Mhz @ such 2-3-2-7 3.4V....posted but failed thru boot. Never tried lower.

it'll give you a couple of mhz,
but not much.
it reacts like bh-5; so not much gain in mhz, big loss in b/w after loosening timings.

someone needs to pick up the regualr ddr400at $105/gig and see if they are still utt!

guys i need some help here with my vx gold...on my dfi nf4...
i have been looping memtest this morning @ 260 with the following settings:

1.5-2-5-2-7-15-1-2-1-2-auto-1-en-incr-0-7-4-auto-auto-auto-dis-8-7-en

vcore 1.75
vdimm 3.6
vltd 1.5
chipset 1.7

bios 2.18 (tried 3.10 but was told to go back to 2.18)

those settings will do test 5 for 50 loops and i looped tests 1-8 and right now i have test 8 looping - so far it has done 10 passes...

so i think that things are stable enough for me to try to get into xp - as soon as the xp loading screen comes up - my keyboard initializes - bam BSOD......and i get the bsod right after my keyboard flashes - every time.

the 3500 newcastle is good for 2.6ghz and the ram wont error out in memtest so i dont know what setting i am using that is making xp puke?

anybody have any suggestions?

Well, memtest only tests the A64 core's ability to access memory. All the other things in the system arent hammered....til you try and boot windows.

Obviously something in the system cant hack those tight timings. So back off till it works, and then try to zero in ONE item at a time to figure out what timing parameter is too tight. Its laborious I know but its the only way to identify what is holding you back.

ok well i am at a complete loss - i thought maybe one of the settings is too far out of wack for my hardware.......so i put every single setting to auto

voltages / dram settings - everything is auto

should be able to get into windows with auto eveyrthing right?

heya :) i just orderd 2 sticsk of this winbond UTT stuff... seems u need around 3.2 - 3.4 volts or so to get it to perform... is that safe for 24/7 use??....
im just a bit worried i will damage it... and if its not good for 24/7 at this volts.. what do u all do? just use differnt memory for everyday use and swap to this for benching? thnx for any help.... :)

OCZ warrants their ram up to 3.5V and they use UTTs so I guess to be safe use it at 3.4V IMHO.

Its pointless to buy ram if ur gonna use it for benching alone lol

3.5 and 3.6 is safe too, if have you have the mems proper cooled with a high CFM Fan

But if your DIMM doesn't respond to Voltage raise, don't try more than 3.3-3.4
you might kill it

is my first a64 rig ive built.. still waiting on part to arrive... orderd 1 o them ASBOX 3500 cpu`s in the other thread..... but was worried i couldent use this memory all the time 24/7 and high fsb... glad i can!!!:) im using a xp-90 HS on a dfi lanparty ultra-d mobo... im not sure how that HSF sits on the mobo.. so dunno if it gives the mem a bit of extra cooling.... i dont have anything else to cool the memory with :/

Just a quick question bout UTT in general; is 3.3v enough to get a pretty good showing out of this stuff or do I really need 3.4-3.6v?

Mine wouldn't do crap with 3.2v, but with 3.28v they would do 244MHz @ 2-2-2 timings on my NF7-S. I think its really hit or mis, some take to 3.2v, others need upwards of 3.4v to start performing. Mine were 44d, 0605 chips.

depends on your setup
A64s+3.3V should give at least 245MHz

Newegg has the speed premium in stock right now just checked them.
