Here is my case - A Thermaltake Tsunami Aluminum case. Looks cramped but actually the cables are completely out of the way(2nd pic) and airflow is excellent. Had to invert the side window fan because of the True Black 120 and cut a blowhole on top. Using this system 24/7 @ 4.0Ghz(20x200) C0 and yes thats 12 gig of Corsair XMS3 running 9-8-7-20 1N @ 1600Mhz. Ordered OCZ Blades 2000Mhz ram 12 gig will be here this weekend. At the same time will cut cable management holes in the appropriate locations to clean it up a bit - Dremel time!
Excuse the dust - this system is been running since the Rampage II Extreme first came out. This is one of the first boards off the assembly line. No cold boot problems and is stable as a rock! This board will fit a Mid Tower ATX case as long as the drive cage on the bottom can be removed. This case has been home to 7 Asus motherboards so far.
Bios Beta Version 1502 for the Asus R2E Motherboard.
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view...d=1262880&da=y
Hooray! New bios! Flashed and works okay so far....
:P:D
Anyone using a REVOLUTION 85+ 1050W with the Rampage ll, curious if their are compatibility problems with this combo?
Hi there
I'm using the highest model - Revolution80+ 1250W. Running great with RIIE...
I have only one minor issue. I had 2 Enermaxes in the past and both had HEAT GUARD...my Revolution has HEAT GUARD in documentation but never saw it active:) PC just shut down without heat guard......might be the board that dont like it or my PSU might be faulty. So guys with this PSU.... do you have HEAT GUARD ?:)
heat guard = fans are running about 1 min when you shut down PC
Did it fix the overvolting on the memory x.m.p settings yet?
Jus flashed 1502 and it seems to work.
At first sight, I noted that you can chose the VID as an absolute value or a relative one.
I suppose, if you use the relative one, you can have the VID reduction under low cpu load, even if you overclock.
Hi Brama,
The only thing I noticed so far is that it boots faster than the previous(1406) bios. I also noticed the Vid addition and set mine to relative. I'll use it thru the week and weekend and see if anything else has changed. So far no ill effects. Back to playing Streetfighter 4 for the PC(I refuse to buy a console and this version is so much fun! My fingers are sore on my Logitech rumblepad).
:):D
anybody want to compare the bandwith between eg 1402 and the 1502 bios release ? wnan know if they changed something to the Back to back Cas delay setting
someone upload the 1502 ROM in .zip or .rar or .7z format please.. reup reup....;)
I'm going to wait since it isn't even on asus ftp site under beta yet.
Upped it to my FTP : Rampage Extreme Bios 1502
I test the bios 1502, with Benchmark Everest no difference to the performance of the ram
but what the option in the bios "CPU Voltage VID"?
it is better to Absolute (VID) or Relative (offset)?
thanks
if you read what's written on the right in the bios you will understand
Absolute ; sets the vcore value you want if you set 1.2, it says 1.2 in the bios (no relation to the VID)
Relative : here it calculates the offset form the VID , if you want 1.2 and the VID is 1.1, you need to set 0.1 to get 1.2 as the above setting...
Don't think it changes anything... saw this seting to on the Gene II
Hey guys,
I have just ordered a Asus xonar essence stx and have realised that there is an issue with full size sound cards not fitting in the top PCI-X x1 slot. I have a swiftech northbridge block but it still looks like there is not quite enough room.. Is it possible to run the card in the lower white PCI-X x1 slot or any other.. I currently only have one video card (GTX280 with Koolance waterblock) in the top blue PCI-X x16 slot which will not allow me to use the white PCI-X x1 slot because of the dual slot backplate on the videocard. Will the video card still be in a x16 slot if I move it down to the next blue slot..
Cheers
I am very happy with my stacker 832 se:D Now i need a cpu cooler.
Dont want to run water this time so air is the thing. Can any recommend a good cooler thats not that high. Think like 14cm is max. Dont have much space because of the fan bracket in the door. And its alot in the cpu area it needs to clear.
I know this is ALOT to ask but can anyone post bios settings for a 3.4-3.6ghz clock? I can fine tune it if its unstable but dont know what i should increase/decrease/enable/disable here. And dont know much about memory clocks.
First time i clocked was a Q6600 up to 3.4ghz and got it stable there.
My hardware is
I7 920
rampage extreme
2xHD4890
OCZ Platinum XTC DDR3 1600MHz 6GB CL7-7-7-24, 1.65 volts
850w psu
Thanks for any help:)
Did it quickly but it looks like sleep mode works in bios 1502. Checked the voltages and they are all the same as before it went to sleep mode. Still testing.....

Hey! Which cpu cooler are you guys running? If there is anyone in here running on air tho:P And is it a bad idea to clock from stock right up to 4.0ghz? Saw some filled out bios at the start of the thread i might use.
I'm on air and at 4.0ghrz with a Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler. And i'm using 1406 bios atm.
What is the max blcks folks are getting on this board. Highest i got is 4.3ghrz @ 21 x 204 with 1.42 volts. But now i am reading 21 is on using 1 core at that? So need some info on that also. And i am running a co chip.
My board will not run stable on a 20 Multiplier. I can't figure it out.
BIOS: 1406
Prime Stable on a 19 Multiplier . also i had 210x19=3990 @ 1.25 volts prime stable for over 8 hours. I upped the QPI/DRAM volts to 1.375
20 will not work. Is this a common problem with this board?
BTW temps are high cause my house was 34C (93 deg. F) that day, normally this chip runs 56C full load on large FFT's with room temps at 26C, so cooling is not the prob.
Had same problem with my old 920 CO 200x19@1.3500, 20x not stable , even at 1.475 volts
what you all think? Is this the board? Or some more tweaking needed?

I'm guessing you have a d0 since you got low voltage to get to 4.0 gighrz {nvm i see the s.s now}. I don't have any issues with 20 or 21 multi. but the settings you gave is only for speedstep ,etc. you need to list your ram voltage, qpi, etc settings you are using. And just for nitpicking turn off HT in cpu options and see if it allows you to use 20 or 21 then.
Guys what have temps on NB/SB chipsets with stock cooling?
I have to compare with my water block.
Stock R2E, inside Cooler Master ATCS840 w. True Copper (HT on) & 22C room temperature:

No problem here running 20 or 21 multiplier with a C) 920 and 1306 Bios with or without HT.

rabor and seba84_2005, since you both are at the same speed. Are you both on air or water and what is the temps after running linX all 20 passes at 4.2 with HT on?
Still haven't heard anything about the 21x multi though. It seems my scores goes down when using it, maybe just a glitch though.
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/5...adpictu.th.png
I can do 4.3 on air with this c/0 stepping but that is the limit it do believe even with the megahalems. As the chips isn't getting hot, just limited.
I have i7 920 D0 and run 4.2GHz on 1.26v, QPI 1.3v. My max temps with stress 70*C (room temp 26*C) but I cool with liquid cooling on CPU and mobo ;)

finally Bios 1502 solved my cold boot issue, i had a cold boot issue only when i turn off the psu from the back switch. but that problem is gone with the new bios. finally they knew how to fix the problem. hope they release a WHQL of it
noticed this also , also noticed that the epu phase controll is gone from bios. Maybe the cold boot and the option were connected. Anyway i only had coldboot when i were using qpi volt 1.35+ but it's really a relief since i use 1.45 =)
cold boot issue solved for me as well. ;)
Added latest Official Bios to front page 1406 with changelog
bios 1502 will also solved my cold boot problem ^ ^
I thought it was the C memory slot on the motherboard that had a problem with the test that I do, but since the bios, boot it without problem
Yea i was about to change my mobo for a classified but this saved the day. We should tell everyone to update to bios 1502 on other forums cause i saw lots of ppl with cold boot issue, sufferd as we did after paying a large sum for their setup. but everything would be fine now ;)
1502 is pritty decent it looks like... I hated not being able to put my system in sleep mode... im working on 4.4ghz with this d0 screen will be up soon.
Where can i donwload Bios 1502 ?!
Bios 1502 here :
rampageii-asus-extreme-1502.rar
Thanks for the test, will hook up the RE II for the I7 waterblock test. Value 0 is not zero in fact, the bios reads it out (think to hide the real setting for the competition) as zero. In fact it's around 4 setting. Glad you can run it as tight as that, we needed 8-10 for Hyperpi 32m stability with 8 threads on XP64 and Vista 64.
How high do you need to run the QPI volts to get stable ? difference between 4 and 0 ?
Hi all. I've just got myself one of these boards second hand with an i7 965 extreme for a real good price.
I am really keen to get clocking :) but have already run into my first snag.
I want to run 2 hard drives in Raid 0 but cant seem to create a driver disc/usb stick file.
I will read this thread in its entire'ty when I get going but at the moment I am in a rush to get the PC up and running.
The problem I am having is creating the Raid driver onto my usb pen. I access the motherboard utility DVD Choose Make disc tab and select the intel 64 bit file. Now I am then supposed to insert my usb pen drive and away I go. BUT I keep getting the same error message "disc not recognised".
Unfortunately I dont have a floppy drive to try so I am stuck. Can anybody offer any advice?
Actually I use MHz 186x23, 1864 MHz RAM at 7-7-6-18-1T, Vqpi read by Everest 1.396 in idle, 1.369 V under full load.
To be stable with B2B in AUTO (0 displayed by BIOS), I need about 3 steps more Vqpi.
I found very useful in my setup the new Relative VID setting: I was able to reach 200 MHz more on core clock using this setting as the VID is calibrated by O.S. on the load of the cpu and I can set relative high voltage under full load that is automaticalli reduced in idle.
With that max voltage with previous BIOS, I had BSOD or locked O.S., due to cpu overheating during small loads.
I finally got my first i7 rig up and going and I must say the Rampage II Extreme for me is the best i7 platform out their. My assembly was was very smooth right up to the time I pressed the start button. More on that later.
These are the specs as of now...

I actually started with 6gb of Dominator GTs and sure enough they died 4 hour in to the start up. I'd like to thank my buddy psygnosi for the use of his spare Corsair ram. Thanks again bro. Well after the ram was replaced we ended with these results. For some reason the readings on the CPU-Z and Everest memory timings are wrong, in the bios it actually reads 10-9-8-20.

At this point when I get some better memory will I go any further...any suggestions?

Does anyone have a Xeon 3540 running on this board and S3 Mode works?!
Hi all,
Really hope someone can help me...
I have this motherboard along with corsair dominator 1600 6gb ram and core i7 920 C0 stepping.
I've managed to get the CPU to 3.4 and 1340 on ram at prime stable. I then tried to get to 3.6 and the ram at 1440 and it's nearly stable but I think I'm having to use quite a lot of volts to do so. I'd love it if someone could help me get to 4ghz.
Current settings at 3.6
CPU Multi @ 20
BCLK @ 180
UCLK @ 3060
QPI @ 6459 (I Think)
VCORE @ 1.33 Prime Load @ 1.349 - 1.369
CPU PLL @ 1.81
VTT @ 1.325 Load @ 1.33
VDIMM @ 1.65
HT ON
Speedstep and C1E Disabled
The others like IOH etc are on auto.
I just cant seem to go higher than 3.6. My temps are fine (no higher than 65) as I'm on water.
Hope somone can weave their magic and help me get it up, even 3.8 would be better.!
Will it eventually kill my cpu pushing it to 4ghz?
Thanks,
RoEy
Drop down to 19 multiplier and up to 190 Bclock. Set Uncore initially at twice the ram speed, set QPI to it lowest value or AUTO. Even multies are harder to get stable...and require far more volts
ppl with 2000 mhz ram stable . what qpi volt are you using ? what have you set and what does bios read ?
regards
@ROEY All depends on ya CPU mate, I wouldn't go over 1.35 QPI volts for 200Bclock and 1600mhz ram speeds.
Vcore depends a lot on ya CPU and the cooling.
Try relaxing the Back to Back CAS delay setting to 6 instead of AUTO.
@PalmeAsus : QPI 1.5 here set, Bios reads 1.49. But I don't use that for daily usage, I'm using 1600MhzC7 to relax the uncore on the CPU. For 2000mhz I use B2B Cas Delay 10, 1600MhzC7 it's B2B at 6
I can now get to 3.7 thanks to 19 multi and im at 1.336 vcore and 1.33 vtt.
Can I lower multi to 17 and increase bclk to 225 to get 3.825?
Or 21 x 180?
How many volts can i put through vcore that is considered 24/7 safe?
Whats the max I can put through vtt and is considered 24/7 safe, I heard it was 1.4?
Should I be bumping anything else? lol that sounds so wrong.:ROTF:
Temps are fine, cpu reaches 65 after max itb stress.
RoEy
Anyone?
RoEy
Try 200 block, ram at 1600Mhz, uncore at 3200mhz and QPI link at lowest value... just add more Vcore... if ya cooling can handle it 1.4 is no biggie. Just try 1.375 first. Also you are stressing with IBT, which pushes ya CPU far further then any program does (requiring also more Vcore )
Have you got messenger m8? If so could you add me,
lennon_legend@hotmail.com
just incase I need to ask you some more about it, if thats ok?
I'm up till 2am tonight.
thanks again,
RoEy
I have a i920 C0 and I've been trying to get 4.2ghz stable and it seems about 95% stable but about every 2 months I get a freeze/BSOD. running bios 1406 (upgarding to 1502 right now), and here are my voltages all taken from Everest:
vcore = 1.42-1.44
QPI = 1.35-1.36
DIMM: 1.65
All other voltages are set on auto in the bios and I'm running my corsair dominators @ 1603mhz @ 9-9-9-20 1T. I have set QPI link and uncore to lowest settings. bclk is 200 multiplier is 21
Any advice?
I have a problem..... my memory is:
Corsair Dominator 3x2GB 1600MHz CL8 1.65v on stock.
And sometimes I have random errors..... "memory mangament" etc.
in the photo are the memory settings in my BIOS
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/6548/s5000210.jpg
Is there something set wrong?
Drop ya OC to eg 4ghz and see if you got any instabilities then. Would be better to post the CPU and voltage settings too...only thing you can try here is to loosen Back to Back Cas delay setting to eg 6 - 8

But I know what jet to throw in the eyes immediately after the BIOS flash ;)
Bios 1504 for the R2E is here also since the first link and account exceeded its daily download limit.
http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/view...d=1277312&da=y
Is it possible to flash RIIE bios onto RII gene?
@bito, sure thing. This works for me, you may have to adjust your memory setting if your using a different speed ram.

Why would you want to do that, as the layout is similar ? Gene II's 0809 got the same options as 1502 ( I even think the REII bios was based on the Gene II's )

If you load setup defaults and re-enter your values in bios 1502 or 1504
Epu phase control will disappear. I wonder if that was the main culprit for the cold-boot problems plaguing some users......
I've reset the CMOS after 1502 and I had to enter my values again as the old ones were gone. Still have EPU Phase control. Never had a cold boot problem people described here either. Mine was related to Vista 64/BIOS problem. It wouldn't shut down properly to S3 to begin with after a single warm boot.
Hmmm...I could have sworn it was gone in 1502, I guess it might have been 1504 where it disappeared. Both bios came one after the other but I'm sure after 1504 my EPU Phase control is gone(I checked just to make sure). I'm glad sleep mode still works in 1504 as iin 1502. I also have never had the cold boot problem but I'm sure Asus is on the right track now. No one has replied back saying it didn't work(for those who have the cold-boot problem).
:D
with the 1502 bios I think I had the option EPU II phase control
I flashed the 1504 from 1406, all my settings were saved and I didn't have the option EPU II phase control
I loaded the default settings, then put my settings and no option EPU II phase control too
is better than this option disappeared then?
Confirmed , using 1504 . When i loaded setup defaults and restarted the epu controll was there. But when i loaded my oc profile it disapeared. But i dont mind since it's set to full phase if you dont touch it.
edit: found it. When you disable Cpu power limit the epu controll disapear. When you have it on enabled it's there in both 1502 and 1504.
hey guys where do i start overclocking never done it before
my projects and specs http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=213418&page=2
thanks in advance
davep watched Your project, well done  but it will be a problem with overclocking..... You do not have any cooling on the QPI card. It can be a very strong heat, by causing instability when overclocking. You must apply a small fan on this card ;)
I contribute that to this excellent motherboard and a great CPU and a crazy friend with spare ram.:DQuote:
