those will kill your loop, and they use the same powerchips as any1 else, the mushkin accent is much better, since it wont kill any parts

my q9550 is @ 3.915 and 1.48-1.51v is that to much?
k thanks , ill have to buy o.s though since mushkins aint available in australia. :(
i noticed that u only have them running at 1141mhz? were u able to run them at 1200mhz stable? see i really want 1200mhz this time.
also is 996619 the only decent batch ? or which should i look out for? theres quite a few.
thanks adya.
look at my PL :D if i loosened to pl8 i would easily reach 1200, the divider im at now only allows for 1141 so I tightened the PL to increse performance. once it gets colder (once summer is over) i will be seeking higher FSB and higher ram clocks ;) then i will loosen the pl up again
trust me this ram loves this board and vise versa, its a match made in heaven as far as 2x2gb sticks are concerned. 996619 is a great batch if you can find that but the redlines are good also. any mushkin 2x2gb kit labeled 2.0-2.1v has the powerchips so they are pretty much all good
ok , i just go these on ebay.
Mushkin ASCENT DDR2 1066 4GB (2x2GB) XP2-8500 996619
$240 aud including postage. more than i wanted to pay but hopefully worth the price hehe
Got a question I know if you want to do X-fire you have to use slots 1 and 3 but if I have a single card can I use the 2nd PCI-E slot?
yah u can use the middle slot for 1 card it runs the same speed as the top slot, and u mean the 2nd 16x slot slot pci-e#3 right not the 1x thats pci-e #2
Does anyone else notice on this chipset that when you insert a CD/DVD the OS pauses for like 2-3 seconds. Anyway to stop that?
yah, it wont do the pause with the dvd drive with native IDE mode, dont use the jmicron for an HDD
they yellow ones
I've been having problems with running just 1 4870x2. if I use AA I can only use 2x and 4x anything above 4x and games will not load. it doesn't matter what driver set I use. I installed an extra 500GB hard drive and it does the same thing with a clean install of vista. I've tried both of my 4870x2 and the result is the same. I know it's the board because if I use a friends P35 it can use all AA levels.
edit: the cpu is runing at stock 3.0 and the ram is running at 800mhz. when I run 4X I get massive video corruption.
Hey people is there any reason i should get a DFI x48 board over a P45? I was kinda going for the DFI X48 LT but people suggested me going for a P5Q Deluxe instead, which one is better?
Well I found someone who will buy my Q9450 for $250 so I dont take too much of a loss, but I'm still not sure if the MB or CPU is the problem. Re-installing everythign again at this point would take more time than I have available and cost me more in time than reaching 4ghz is worth. (looking at a couple weeks to get everything installed and setup again),
I really hate my PC :( Wost PC I have built in years from an overclock standpoint. If I sell the CPU and board and take a $200 loss would the P5Q Delux and Q9650 be my best bet (Costing me about $500 additional IF I can sell this POS MB?). I still think its a bios issue for quads, the components look ok to me...But it is what it is and I'm not happy. I have been a DFI fan long enough, but I'm not loyal to any brand. Asus boards have always lasted for me in the past, its just that been very poor overclockers with increadable lack of features and adjustability in the bios.
Will FSB Help in games more than Ghz anyways?
The only place where I need maximum performance is for games. Photo editing n such already seems very fast @3.2 ghz stock volts. And well I can run pretty much any game already but I'm still not impressed, since I know the CPU has potential having it clocked to 3.2 ghz off stock volts, or maybe it is just some kinda funky dud. I guess I need to find time to play more, but now might be my olnly chance to sell this CPU for $250.
Also anyone know of any way to get SATA hotswap working? I have a system where an external sata drive turns on at night and my backup software runs. However I can't seem to get it to detect the external drive without restarting the computer first. It worked fine on my old AMD...
you can easily do 450 fsb on this board, i don't know what your issue is but i have used 3 of these boards and all of them get to 450fsb with 1.35 vtt and 1.55 vNB. its almost like clockwork. So if you get the q9650 you should be able to do this, all these volts are withing safe ranges and are nearly universally successful to oc to 450
Ok then, im convinced sell the CPU and try another one... Iw as not able to do over 400 FSB and pass 50 iterations of burn test. Well Actualy thats not true, I was stable at 420 FSB until I put the other 4GB of ram in.
Just out of curiosity are you running 8GB of ram in any of your 3 DFI boards?
Did you have to change the GTLs manualy? I can't boot over 400 FSB without manualy manipulating the GTLs in any case... Also what bioses are you using? v602 might be my problem.
Thanks for your help.
only 4 gb (2x2gb), although I used to run 4 sticks of dominator @ 455 FSB, needed to overvolt to run stable
yeas you need to set the GTLS for 1.35v vtt earlier in the thread. I run 97,94,77 at the moment but i am going to pursue a higher vtt and higher clocks in the coming days
see this chart:
http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/...r/gtltable.jpg
602 is good ( i run 603 x38 version) I got the bios chip so I am going to try the 725 x48 bios in my x38 so I will let y'all know how that turns out
My GTLs are set almsot the opposite, any tweeking and I'm not stable at 400 FSB...my 03/ 1/2 are much lower than the NB GTL... I think you do not have any C1 stepping CPUs this seems to be the case with them. All GTL rules are thrown out with these chips Which is likely why I can't hit the 450 FSB target and have such a hard time hitting even 400 FSB. Adjusting voltages is much easier than adjusting magic GTL's. Perhaps now that I have some working numbers I cna calculate ratios on my own. Its very timme consuming though. I still need to get pics for everyone of those SMD probes but I haven't been home for a weekend in some time now...
If anyone knows how to get the SATA hotswap (plug n play) working please let me know or my esata drive is worthless and I will have to manualy backup my system every week (yea right like that is ever going to happen!)
On another note my friend just bought a P5Q Delux and his video cards VDI (on the inside of the panel) hits some caps so he can't use the 16x slot WTF! I guess that board wont work for me either...
snag this quick justin, 459$ no rebates http://shop3.frys.com/product/569944...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Can anyone recommend a good heatsink for this if they are using the stock northbridge chipset heatsink? I want to get a better heatsink instead of the tiny stock one that comes with Intel CPUs. Although I am afraid some of the larger ones will get in the way of the NB chipset sink.
I am looking to do some overclocking but unable to water cool at this point so I am not expecting much. I have a Q9450 and hear they overclock pretty well without extreme cooling.
Found it here http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...40c14s52#blank
Looks pretty good. A little pricier but the performance may be worth it. If we were to say $50 was the max, what would you recommend?
damn i bought mine for 50$ a year ago
btw its cheaper here
http://www.ncixus.com/products/23531.../THERMALRIGHT/
the new direct touch heatpipe system looks good too
http://www.ncixus.com/products/31935...1284/Xigmatek/
but to be honest after a 120 extreme nothing can compare to me
i bought a tiniq tower for cheap was a waste of money even for 20$
i just bought a Xigmatek 1283 i'm gonna test it out if its crap i play on moding it as a nb cooler lol
You can also fit it horizontally without any modification.
Well I tried using my GTL %'s to achieve a higher Overclock (3400 MHZ), set NB to 1.55v (measured on board) and CPU to 1.4v, Vtt to 1.32 measured (can't select 1.35 measured) tried to boot at 425FSB 3400 MHZ. Corrupted my OS, now IE won't open... Great there goes about 20 hours of installs. :(
I think I will sell this setup and try something else, but I'm not sure what cause I read Asus does not work with my Memory either but that was just a newegg review...Damn I'm really starting to hate these intel chipsets and processors...
The Q9650 deal is good (I have to pay 9% tax for living in Cali), but still too expensive for me, I could try to get a q9550 but have to take a huge loss. Starting to hate this hobby to be honest, waterblocks liquid cooling, none of it matters when your CPU and MB and Memory are overpriced POSs....
u can get the new foxconn p45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186153
Now that is ugly as hell lol, maybe if someone makes a waterblock for the mosfets it would work, otherwise the heatpipe kills it for me, plug the hgue clash of hideous colors.
I think I'm stuck with this setup the more I look at it. It's just an epic fail for me. I'm not brand loyal but I seriously hope AMD comes out with something soon that will get them back in buisness, maybe DFI will get off the pot.
System restore saved my OS install though so I didnt have to resort to my ghost from last month:)
GTLs for stable 3200MHZ OC with Q9450 C1 stepping and DFI LT X48 flashed to UT with 602 bios are as follows:
Measured from MB using Case as a ground: Vtt = 1.095 (1.1 default in bios)
0/3 vtt = 74 = .709v = 64.74%
1/2 vtt = 76 = .699v = 63.83%
NB vtt = 81 = .743v = 67.85%
Unless I get a new CPU it looks like I am stuck at 400FSB. Although I personaly feel it is a MB limitation with 8GB of my memmory in there. Maybe the G.Skillz memory is crap, or maybe its the board, or possibly the CPU. I don't know. My last resort will be to try a new bios 8/29 I guess. But I don't see that fixing any issues with my huge FAIL of a system.
Anyways heres the probes I bought from Frys to measure GTL's they did help to get me stable at 3200MHZ and using all stock voltages WOOOHOO!.

My Question for the EE's:
When probing the motherboard for voltages is it better for the negative lead on the MultiMeter to be shoved in a ground on the molex, or grounded to the frame of the case? Acording to MB voltage readings vs bios readings/settings it is better to ground to the case, but from my experience with car audio (involving batteries) it is better to ground to the - Lead on the PSU directly (which is not possible so Molex lead would be next closest). The 2 readings greatly varry when dealing with a hundreadth of a voltfor teh GTL's a hundreadth of a volt off and the PC is unstable...
From my understanding dc Voltage runs from power to ground (although when dealing with electrons, I hear its actualy the opposite?). More importantly, when dealing with batteries, the power lead has to run back to the negative lead on the battery at some point or no current will flow. Do power supplys work the same way as a 12v battery since they are DC? Or would the CPU case work as a better ground? It may be simple enough but I got owned before on a car audio forum where I grounded my amp to the frame. According to everyone on there, alternator does not matter, its all about grounding Negative path to the Negative terminal on the battery?
so u wont get the best ddr2 board just becouse its fugly looking, and it has an avenger quantum force version coming out and im sure that wont be red
I heard the DFI was best when I purchased it, then back to asus, they all seem to have issues... But the main reason for not getting it is lack of watercoling parts for it. Unless the Asus Mosfet blocks ar at least some other aftermarket blocks fit on those mosfets... It seems it would be hard to watercool the NB. Other reasons for not getting it are. Will my G.Skill 8800 work? Perhaps I still won't be able to achieve over 400FSB due to the CPU or having 8GB ram. Where is the MB Made/ China, Taiwan?, Japan!?
had this mobo one day and I like it so far, think it might be my favorite mobo, my maximus flashed to rampage was pretty sweet though.
i'm an ME not an EE but i've always connected neg to the ground of a molex cause the voltage is coming from the psu not the case but i do know what you mean about variance between the 2 readings. i just checked the 12v line on my psu and using the molex as ground got 12.06v and using the case as ground got 12.03v
@Justintoxicated
I ran 8GB of G.SKILL RAM you mentioned with no problems at 555Mhz and 1.899v, 445FSB. Check page 90 and 91.
I am having big problem to stabilise 8gb @ 1066 with stock CPU (333fsb)
I have managed to get it stable with PL6 but I need vNB of 1.57
Also, the timmings are 5-5-5-18 and trfc is 76
All are the minimum/fastest settings needed to be stable
anyone else having issues posting with higher than 1.344 vcore? however i try with just vcore value or with special vid control added it doesnt post... using the new bios, going to go back one and try that while I try and finger this out.
I just read there is no way to enable sata hotswap with this MB? I feel like just suffering with my old NF4 MB...At least I could automate backups on that MB. This one requires me to manualy turn on my external enclosure, then reset the computer, boot up, and manualy run my backup. Or spend more money on a stata card just to get hotswapping? Hell, my going on 4 year old N-Force4 mother board allowed hotswapping! Every time I turn around theres another reason to switch to a better cheaper MB than this POS. These new DFI board are nothing like the old ones with hotswapping and memtest86 built into the bios...
I think I'm just going to ditch this board and get myself a Biostar I45. Been trying to get my E8400 past 3.9GHz and so far no luck.
Hell, I'm not sure why I got a x48 chipset anyways. Crossfire sounded pretty cool until I ran out of money because of college books and fees. :shakes:
What settings are you using to get the Hard Drive to detect? Sure mine work fine for USB, but USB is too slow to backup 2-3TB.
I tried enabeling AHCI in the bios, and I get bluescreens on startup. I also have Vista 64. Is there something I need to set inside the OS?
http://expertester.wordpress.com/200...t-reformating/
http://expertester.wordpress.com/200...ci-windows-xp/
haven't tested those methods though.
another way is using the jmicron controller but I am bored to write it now.
If you still have probs post back here to try explain the other method
The method for vista worked! had to reboot a couple times it seemed to hang ont he 4th controller the first time! But its working! You just saved my ass! WOW thanks so much!
no problem :)
But ask/search before giving up next time ;)
Ok, I'm trying to flash my bios to 829 so my 4870x2 would work. Not sure if I did this correctly, but I made a bootable disc with all three files that was from X48AD829.zip with nero burning rom 7. Rebooted my computer and it got to the part where you start entering the command like dir and etc so you can start flashing. My problem starts here, my keyboard seems to have power, but I can't seem to type anything, but my keyboard works inside bios. Therefore, I need to get my keyboard working.
I also need to know what exactly do I have to enter to flash my bios properly.
I would also need help creating a bootable usb drive in case my bootable cd don't work.
Here's a helpful site that helped me flash my x48.
Currently the site is down, but I linked you the cached version. Hopefully it's down because of an update or something. :(
yeh i just did this . rgone showed me how to do it in an easy way. highly recomend it.
i tried to post the link ,but dfi club site wont load for me atm. just go into the forums there on how to setup usb flash , follow the steps rgone posted .works well and has all the dl links u need.
I still am having issues with vcore. If i enter 1.35 the board wont start, and wahts the deal with special vid control it enables and disables itself with or without a percentage added. If i enable it and set a percentage, it shows in windows but when i reboot and go back into bios its on auto again? WTF Also if i disable special vid control then move my vcore it enables it self again?
What the HELL! My LT X48-T2R just died. I was just watching some damn TV show, and it went kaput. This is the second DFI board in a row to die, my LT X38 had a similar fate.
Not sure if I want to OC on DFI anymore...
Two separate PSUs. The board won't even turn on, but I have my new X38 T2R from RMA (it's been sitting here doing nothing for weeks). I'm going to boot it up to see if the issue is my PSU or mobo. It's taking a while, as I have to take the entire PC apart, this is the major downside to using a Ninja rev.A.
special vid is only supposed to be available at vcores of 1.2v and up, below 1.2v the spec vid can add ripple which could damage the cpu.
thats all i know about it, in relation to appearing and disappearing (i don't have the board but may be getting one soon). read that at link below, post 308 and 309.
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/revie...review-31.html
Hmm, well, I just tried the new board, and it does not turn on either. I used two different power supplies, although one of them is of questionable status. I manually turned on the "questionable" PSU by hooking up the green wire to GND, and it DOES indeed turn on like that. However, plugged into the mobo, it does not turn on at all. My "good" PSU, the OCZ, has a status LED on the back. It turns from amber to red when I try to turn on the system. Very weird.
Could my CPU be dead? If it was my CPU, wouldn't it turn on but fail to go anywhere?
got my dfi back in my computer. i got me a E7300 to replace the Q9550. yeah... i know a bit of a downgrade but it doesn't matter, i just want a high oc :D
I got it all put together, and i get the post error 26.. i looked it up but nothing on it is available. anybody know?
Video Card error
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/hardw...html#post12434
I tried the above method, but it did not work for me.... at least not for the hard drives that are connected to the ICHR9 ports (I have the jmicron ports disabled). I also tried the registry method (http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=444831) and that did not work either. Did you do anything else to get hot-swapping working on the ICHR9 ports?
yeah it disables itself at 1.2 but if I set my vcore setting to 1.35 NO POST, if i leave it to 1.3 and add 102.59% i boot at 1.376, LMAO
also anyone help me post at 500? this board does 494 at stock volts but i cant post at 500 no matter what I try and I know the cpu is good for it.
I'm having this kind of issue - with other than first bios, no matter what Vcore I set above 1,25V (in bios), I have no-boot situation... "Funny" thing is, that first official bios works great and I can use full range of Vcore voltage and it's rock stable (sig) :ROTF:
Take a look at this:
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3294&p=14
Sorry guys another 4870x2 question. What is the first bios that supports the 4870x2 or should I just get the newest bios out? What happens if I try my current bios and it does not work, just a blank screen (no damage or anything right)? I'm guessing that I need to return everything back to stock speeds, now if I have the profile saved will it still be there after the bios update? I like the way it is now, e8500 @ 4.6 (maybe 1.35v don't remember), is that going to be easy to get with the nwer bios? Thank you for any help you can give me.
ha ha, ok. i got a ancient machine with a socket a amd also so i'll try it.
Hey guys. Can help me with my LT X48? I made a thread with my issue here. Thank you all.
What is mean "8.8" error - enybody know?
i need some help. I have 4x1gb of patriot 1066 ram (kept crashing) and ran memtest, it said that it had alot of errors. I put the system all back to stock settings and got 4x1gb of ocz 1066 ram. I put it in (I tired every combnation with the number of sticks and the slots) and it post C1. Put the patriot in, starts just fine, put ocz back in C1. I cleared cmos, C1. The one time it did load and went through the bois, it stopped at the end and said no operating system installed, restarted C1. Put the patriot back in, started right up. I don't know what to do, I've worked on this for a few hours. Any ideas? I'd like to oc again, but anything above 800 and the patriot will crap out. Could the ocz be doa from factory? Appericate any help, thanks.
Thank you for the replies. I tried each stick on its own in each slot, no go. I will check the nb voltage, not sure what it is now since I set it at stock (on my oc setting it was 1.55v), but I do have all four sticks of patriot in now. I have these: ozc and patriot. I did set the ram to its correct voltages. I can't even get the ocz to run at 800 (or anything for that matter) and anything over that is a crash for the patriot.
Sorry, the ocz is 2.1v and the patriot is 2.3v with the timings for both at 5-5-5-15. I think they are both double sided. I'm going to try again today, I'll set the nb voltage, ram timings, and ram voltage. I've never had this problem before, just put in the memory and it worked. I don't understand why its this hard? Thank you guys for the help and I'll post back with what I find out.
