Grn;
could we see some before/after numbers?
ive got my trigger finger just waiting to make the mod.... !!
So more than one person is experiencing lower required voltage for the CPU clocks?
I did it !!!!!
Wouldn't reboot at first and i thought id killed it so i pulled out a stick of ram and up it came, yippee

I wish Asus would get a move on with this rampage bios
Didnt need more NB volts.
CPUPLL on AUTO gives rounding errors, set to 1.50 rounding errors are gone.
Priming my 24/7 settings now, will shoot for a +500 stable(ish) Vista boot shortly.
Interesting. I'm so so so so tempted to do it. I'll give it until tomorrow evening and if there are no discouraging experiences I'm going to take the jump.
JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP!
Seriously tho, I was really bumbed last night with my few glitches, I thought OMG wtf did I do.
After today I am very pleased, no complaints, no regrets
It would be nice if ASUS would just make there next MF BIOS like the RF BIOS. Maybe if everyone ask then nicely???
This isn't good. I can't return it now either. Do you know of which ram does work fine with this board?
I kinda figured an expensive board like this would be less likely to have problems. I did try the 1004 bios and the 907 bios. Although I haven't had problems booting into the bios or anything, just the memtest errors on 2 of 4 sticks.
Anyone still run the 505 bios? Im tempted to update mine to the newest one out if its safe to do so.
this reminds me of p4p800d to p4p800e flashing, flash the bootblock then flash the new bios to add extra features.
really though changing the rom ID in bios with amibcp should be enough IMO, my versions here won't open the rampage bios though.
I guess it's still too early to say there's a decided advantage or difference in performance by doing this?
Thanks for the great idea of flashing :)
Works like a charm for me to......

well I see it this way, if the added timings in the rampage bios help then its worth it...tRD is better on the X48 board so this would be worth having although its just how the strings are labeled thats different so they are easier to understand.
What we do need is tRC and tRFC opening up and this build of the bios is quite old...so we have to hope the release build has the new options and is coded right unlike the x38 bios version which seems to have issues.
I am currently using BIOS 505 with 8 gb ram (at ddr2-667, and 1.8v). Everything is stock execept for the processor which is running 333 x 10 = 3.3Ghz (on a Q6700). The Vcore is set to 1.264Vand the northbridge and southbridge is set to the lowest setting. The system is rock stable. It idles at 33 and gets to 45 under load (with a thermalright ultra 120 extreme)
Anyway, the question is this
After the bios splash screen disappears, the cursor flashes for 5-6 sec in the upper left hand corner, and then i get the windows vista start up bars. It appears that the bios is waiting for something.
The boot order i have is the harddrive first and i have disabled the second boot device. The floppy dirve is disabled.
Is there any setting in the bios that allows me to go from the splash screen directly into loading windows?
The video card is the 8800GT. It also does this with my other card the 8800 GTS 512
I have seen some brand name computers (HP, Acer, Gateway) boot quickly into windows after the splash screen
I went from 0505 all the way through to 0907. I went back to 0505 because it performed the best for me, had no stability problems and was much better. I then tested 1004 and it caused nothing but chaos, all the usual random crashing and locking up. Flashed back to 0505 and all is fine again.
A little rampage here now :)

I upgraded 1003 to 1004 and now it won't hold a custom FSB. I enter 400x9 but once I save it just reverts the processor back to stock at 266x9 (q6600 g0). Anyone else have this issue/know how to fix it?
Also, are there any conclusive results yet as to the rampage mod making for easier overclocking or not?
From what I was told today when I checked up on my RMA, the Maximus Formula has been discontinued (but they say they have no stock, and they are asus:confused: ) and from what i guess, the only stock people have is outlets. like newegg, tiger or others.
So they say if they was out of stock, i would get a upgrade to a Maximus Extreme, which i basically said "WTF, I don't have DDR3" and said to the guy "Well Wouldn't the Rampage Formula or the ASUS 780i board be more acceptable because I do not have DDR3?" and he said "I don't know sir, We will email you by tomorrow with either the Tracking Number or a List of Upgrades we can offer you"
Several people have had similar problems. I'm not sure of the fix yet? Are you loading the overclock profiles cos that won't work, you'll need to set them all manually again.
Btw, I've ripped the logo off the South Bridge and attached a 40mm fan, it dropped my South Bridge temps from 40c down to 29c and my North Bridge down from 47c to 40c 100% Loaded!
MUCH nicer! I actually think the fan is the one from my ancient KR7A... :D
Yeah. If this sorts the memory timings then definitely it will be worth doing. I am teetering on the brink here, but I figure I'll at least wait until I get my QX9650 before deciding.
It seems more and more like Asus are going to abandon the Maximus Formula bios... still no new "official" release since 0907.
Did you read Warboy's post?
You might be on to something
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2205
I did read it. If this is true, it's pretty disappointing and will probably make me steer clear of Asus products again (both my Mobo and GPU are Asus).
I just got in the balance of parts to build my LC rig on this board, and now we find out that they're pretty much discontinued, which is probably why we're not seeing any action on the bios.
Anyway, if this mod salvages it, great! If not, I might have to check out the DFI's.
i currently have that "issue" too.... no idea what it is.
bios 907..
---
Warboy, you wrote 'discounted';
did you mean 'discontinued' ?
if so, im pretty upset with asus on their decision... :slapass:
i have a feeling my next board will be a DFI like many others on this forum have said.
Well I run 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix PC-8500, and they work just fine.
The BIOS has a lot of options that has an effect on the ram tho, so if you post your BIOS settings (from Extreme Tweaker) using the format posted throughout this thread then you'll probably get some hints as to what settings you should try.
Nice. This worked perfectly. I am also seeing less voltage for the CPU to hold the same clocks. This is outstanding. Now to figure out all these RAM timings...
Stilt, fantastic job, thank you.
End of life product ? They will come with a new revision proppably.. who knows. It's the same as it was with X38 DQ6 , they found to solder EPU on the PCB as a great HW revision. Maybe Asus is planing something tiny too
How does this Rampage BIOS do with 8GB of RAM?
Discontinued is to be expected: The Maximus Formula is a limited edition board.
Quick question, got broken maximus SE around, it shouldn't be a problem to take the chipset watercooling system from that one and put on a no SE maximus?
I emailed ASUS. Hopefully they will make a Rampage Formula version for the MF motherboard.
My email to http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx
I'm not really having a problem. I just wanted to ask if there would be any way ASUS could come out with a BIOS that has some of the options that the Rampage Formula motherboard does. There is a forum about Turn your Maximus Formula into Rampage Formula. I don't want to viod my warranty but I would like the extra you get from the Rampage Formula BIOS. I bought this motherboard because it was a all out gamer/overclocker motherboard, and we haven't seen new BIOS in awhile.
Thanks
Shawn
I think so, Yes.. You can put watercooling on your MF non SE.. ;)
Hi guys,
I've got a problem again. My overclock isn't prime95 stable.
I've run OCCT mix for 8hrs+ withouth a problem, but prime 95 blend makes my pc reboot after less than 2hrs.
My NB temp does get about 53C, could this be the problem?

If indeed there is any benefit to this rampage bios, why wouldn't asus just make the changes in the maximus formula bios to match?
Isn't the SE the version Warboy has? Anyway, I didn't think there was any differentiation in the MF with regards to Asus since they both use the same bios.
The bios settings were all basically the default bios settings I used. The only ones I tried changing were the voltages, and memory timing. Even when I tried underclocking the memory to a slower speed, it still gives errors. Yet the other exact same stick doesn't.
I may have to sell them or something. They give no errors in my Biostar motherboard.
I can now confirm that you cannot make a P5K-Premium into a Blitz Formula. Anyone have a board for sale? lol
This is a good news ,
Show us some benchies !!!!
http://www.pricewatch.com/microproce...quad_q9550.htm
18 in stock supposedly
I have to run Vcore on " auto " , otherwise i get no boot. Running right now 470x9 everything on auto except dram voltage.....
am hapy too:D
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...inger/4500.jpg
Very pleased so for
I hope you will be able to do the same thing with Maximus Extreme when Rampage Extreme is released...
Another successful mod here. Praise be to The Stilt!
After the mod is all done, will it upgrade to asus rampage releases or will we have to wait for you to make a 'maximus build' of each rampage release? I don't really want to do it if we have to wait for you each build and rely on you to do it.
Also, is a RAID going to get screwed up if it's done?
My raid works fine too.
3.7gig 12 hrs prime stable although i have to confess to only doing 2 hrs at 3.9 gig before i stopped it and tried 470 x 8 , it boots and runs 3d06 ok but a lot more testing to be done,
i havent played with the mem settings yet , there is a lot to choose from and i dont know what to set the majority at ,so i have left it in auto for now , but my opinion of this is it certainly isnt any worse than any of the maximus bios's and i have tried em all ,
i am going to find the fsb limit as 460-470 was my limit with my quad and i think this might go a bit more yet
Sorry for that question but:
Do i have to type in khan /sp "Rampage Formula" ? and when?
So what are people getting by doing this flash? I haven't seen and before and afters.
Thanks, great mod. Will have to play around more.
I can confirm raid still works after mod.
Ok ok...I caved...
Now the proud owner of a Maximus Rampage!!! And that's my name for it, hands off! :D
Man... I think this weekend I'll follow suit.
I just wish I had a decent CPU to run before/after benchmarks on.
I'll do it anyway... unless the rest of my parts come in and I'm building. Either way, I'll be sure to do some benchies before and after the flashing.
i got this pm from a guy who doesnt accept pm's so if you are reading this dude, here you go

check this out
afuwin 4.24 has a /x function that ignores rom id
+
afudos v.4.04
Interesting find. Well done.
I've found my first bug in this Rampage bios. Occasionally the multiplier won't change regardless of what you set it to, eg:
I was running 9x and the switch to 8x, but even though the bios settings saved and everything else changed the multi was @ 9x when I rebooted and re-entered the bios.
Now it's either getting stuck @ default multi or sticking @ the last multi used before changing, not sure yet.
I wondered why my boot kept failing and then it got a bit further and I saw I was booting @ 4.2GHz with 1.45v! :D
well nuts.
but, if said afudos emerges *i can search like a mofo* that is the engineering version.
1.) how would i identify it as such?
2.) could i do a direct flash instead of the hacked front-end loader as was this thread was based upon?
id rather do a direct flash if possible than do it from a usb stick as i dont have one handy:( will ez flash recognize cd?
I think so, from what was said up there ^^^? Easiest way to try would be directly flashing the Rampage bios, if it works with those parameters then it'll work to flash back too... If it doesn't work then you'll have to ask The Stilt for a recovery method?
well... i did it.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ageformula.jpg
greg, why does my write and copy suck? what do i manipulate to up those?
and now that i know what is needed I WILL FIND THE ENGINEERING AFUDOS
if i could, i would buy stilts a drink!
