I switched back to my Tuniq Tower, still using MX-2. Still seeing 43C idle for both Cores, but under load Core 1(53C) is 10C higher than Core 2(43C). Uneven chip? What would account for the vast difference?
That seems Ridicu-High for 45nm. That's about 18 minutes OCCT load side of case closed:

CN :)
Mine shorted, but with no lasting damage. The PSU recognized the short and refused to supply power to the board until I fixed the issue, luckily.
The way I have set it up, (there's no room for pictures) is with a sliver of the thermal pad cut off to tilt it forward(towards CPU) off the diodes(?) behind the mosfets. MX-2 is applied to the Mosfets themselves. The Mosfets are actually the coolest component in the case under load, now, with no fan except the case exhaust fan pulling air off of them.
Grandmaster,
Yes would not go past c1 . Tried all remedies posted here no luck. So I grabbed some ddr2 from my dell jewel. Booted right up. Put the Crucial in the dell , hi fans no boot. Tried them again in the x38 no go. All slots one or two sticks. Sad those sticks ran 514 all day long in the 3200icfx at cas 4 :-( @ 2.1v RIP :horse: .Couldn't wait bought the corsair this afternoon. Happy it was ram not the board. :D
240z
I noticed this when I unmounted it from my E6850 and was switching to the Noctua. When I got the DFI up and running I tried the Xigmatek again on the Q6600, trying to add some additional paste to account for the contact. When I took it off the Q6600, it looked like only the center pipe had thermal compound on it. :( Unfortunately, I did not have enought room in the case to mount it vertically so the pipes were one over the cores more. I think if I could have, it might have made some difference. All the heat from all four cores were going into one pipe. :(
If you are looking for another 92mm based fan, I had some good luck with the Zaward Vivo, especially with dual fans. It has direct-touch heatpipes and the fins look almost identical to the Xigmatek, but the shroud helps direct the air more I think.
Just to let you all know the x-48 version with ddr2 will be in stock by the 20th. http://www.motherboardpro.com/DFI-LP...ard-p-540.html
I will be getting one as soon as possible. hopefully it will be at my home by my birthday on the 21st.
I almost bought x38,thank you for telling me this...I thought that there wont be ddr2 version :)
Neither did I, Mike called me yesterday and told me about it. (that is customer service!!). not a bad price either. I'm thinking this will be the last good ddr2 board made and since I have lots of DDR2 and no DDR3 yet it is a no brainer. not gonna be hard to sell this x-38 either. so actually the switch won't cost much at all.
I finally popped for this board and a whole lot of other stuff, although I skipped the G.Skill and bought OCZ like I usually do. (This despite the fact that, to my surprise, I've received no help on the OCZ forum here.) Once I get everything together, I'll post screenies. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the informative comments and advice.
What is main difference between x38 and x48? Only higher binned?
I only want 515-520 FSB for super pi with quad only that :p:
isnt X48 a total diff chipset??? :) If someone flashes to this (or to the DK bios for that matter)..let us know...
Btw. i have a ANNYOING issue that my bios settings are often not kept. I have a OCCT stable setting now and sometimes resetting PC just reverts back to stock....or it just hangs. So i have to turn off (power button on back) the PC to be able to use the settings. Not always, but sometimes.
>>>
zanzabar:
flex whats ur vtt set to, u should need about 1.5, and whats ur NB
>>>
1.5VTT ??? I can try, its at 1.4 right now, NB is is 1.502 (Bios says 1.52).
btw. 1.5 VTT safe on air????
edit: zanzabar:
i increased VTT to 1.48 so it read 1.50 in bios, i also changed GTL Ref 69% and 68% accordingly to the new VTT voltage.
It lasted exactly ONE second in OCCT til i got a BSOD. Mind you, 60mhz less and i am OCCT stable. This CPU is EVIL.
No you can't flash I was J/K.
It is annoying and it's a motherboard or bios problem. Try raisin NB to see if it will help.
But I have my mobo stable to and every now and then - Bios Checksun Failure, almost like the board Cleared Cmos by itself...
This is a handful mobo.
praz, hm.
NB 1.5, SB 1.5, DRAM 2.22. i was testing with this setting using OCCT 40+ mins stable as well as memtest in Vista (2 threads) no errors w/ 100% coverage.
Same issue, kinda. Sometimes I just don't boot at stable settings. Power off the PSU, wait 10 seconds, power back on, and like magic I boot up.
Also, if someone could advise...
I can't get lower than Performance Level 7. Even with 1.6v on the Northbridge at 400FSB, it won't do it. I can get Performance Level 6 at 333FSB with 1.55v on the northbridge... Am I missing some setting that would make this possible? I see a lot of bench screenshots with 6. I haven't touched the GTL settings.
Sorry you feel that way. As far as I know there is no perfect board. However using settings that the board prefers rather then what I would like goes a long way toward solving most issues. I can duplicate these same issues with a slight change in any of the settings I posted. But it's no problem for me to not post in this thread. Good luck with your board.
probably meant "DDR3" :)
Anyway i got X38 since i dont care until nehalem end of this year/beginning of next year. That time X38/DDR2 should do well. Besides i was not impressed by any DDR3 benchmarks, so the price/performance for DDR3 ratio is not too attractive.
G.
when i had my board running with different divider, settings...no problem with the bios. We know the board is finicky w/ dividers anyway...so with the 300/800 i am running now i have this "stuck bios" problem once in a while...didnt have it running 266/667 AFAIK. Just always need to check whether its actually BOOTING with the settings and not at stock :)
hi all, i've this motherboard and one problem. my ram can't start orthos stable at 1066MHz, the max frequency i reached was 960MHz at 400MHz of bus... orthos stable for hour, but with other multiplier after a few second the test failed...
i tryed the configuration for bios by i4memory don't work :(
i've update bios at 1/11 version...

@MARCO
First I would run Memtest #5, #7 and #8 at least 3 times each to check if Ram is passing then I would try 5-5-5-5-15 and changing 'Performance Level' to 7 or 8 and give Orthos another try.
On the subject from flashing bios from x38 to x48.Im not sure what this means.
Updated X48 MRC timing table values but,on my bonetrail x38 motherboard the last bios released had that in the notes.
I think it wont work because 1st they said X48 = IHC10 and X38 = IHC9 and then there is the DDR3 for X48.
But if nothing of this is true and DFI decided to release 2 separate versions of the X48 (one DDR3 and one to substitute the X38 but using the same DDR2 and IHC9) it would probably work but I don't see the point in doing that.
I would use the *.iso instead can you burn the iso?
http://www.memtest86.com/
Trust me guys it is not a misprint, there is a DDR2 X-48 in the pipe. Motherboardpro will have a limited few in stock on the 19th, (they expect them on the 18th) This is not a typo... DDR2 and X-48 DFI listened to what the customer wanted and acted.
now back to your regularly scheduled thread.:D
marco if your ballistix has d9gkx chips you better off cas 4
all my ballistix with d9gmh can do 1200+ with 2.1v
my mushkins cant do 960 5-5-5-15 with 2.3v but i can do 4-5-4-12 1050mhz with 2.22v 2.27v set in bios
i can do 1100mhz 4-4-4-12 with 2.3v but cant do 5-5-5-15:rofl:
use 333/667 or 333/800
jor3lbr i got spare bios chips so i can try that x48 bios lol
Check this out:

What about D9GMH? IIRC my G.Skill has those...
So flexy, are you stable now at 3.6GHz? Would you be able to post your BIOS settigns for me? I'm still having trouble getting there myself... :(
Oh, BTW - all this talk about the X48. Wasn't the X48 supposed to be a binned X38 chip? Trying to think where I saw that at
ski, whats your q6600 VID? This is so important!
And whats happening with your PC on the moment you get the error? I've noticed some patterns here and there.
I just made some changes in my system, got a RevAA1 board and when taking the RevAA0 out of the case and uninstalling hs's I noticed couple of things: SB and NB hate MX-2 thermal paste, they need AS5. Always be carefully with those mounts (especially NB), they never fit properly (heat in some poor contact area can make your OC bsod or reboot).
I also got a new q6600 and I started to play with it 4 hrs ago. My last one (L739A466) had a 1.2825v VID.
It was nice to hit 4050Mhz but it was too hot and needed 1.5v to get that.
I got a new Q6600 Batch #L745A793 that has a 1.21v VID and the first thing I noticed is the low volts the mobo posted for stock speeds, only 1.20vcore against 1.31v from last cpu.
I just started now and already got it 400*9 and I'm finding way easier to find the sweep spot then the high Vid version:
http://i25.tinypic.com/2it3lzp.png
wow Q6600 needing only 1.28v for 3.6Ghz nice :)
Thanks Eva, comming from you is quite a compliment!
I wanna try to lower that soon :-)
Just realised it's all about VID on those Q6600. Lower VIDs better and low heat clockers.
My board booted up on stock settings and gave it only 1.20 for stock and I was wow this is something! The old q6600 I had needed 1.31v on cpu vcore set on auto.
---------------------------------------------
For someone else that's going to ask VID value's are displayed on CoreTemp and you can also look at other topics regarding VID and batch numbers before buying a Q6600:
http://i29.tinypic.com/20tmidh.png
that's 0.10-0.17v less vcore at 3.6ghz than the average Q6600 G0 i have seen! But what's your ambient room/case temps and water temps ?
Well I got on the band wagon guys but it is not the LT or the UT... I am rocking the in the Dark. This BIOS is something else I can tell you that much for sure. Coming from an Abit BIOS to this I didn't even know where to start lol. But now after looking and seeing some of your guys's settings I was like ok, and went back to the BIOS. I wrote everything down that I seen in here with the LT and UT. I honestly didn't even look to see what MB was what when I wrote down the settings.
You see I really couldn't find and reliable info using google that could help me at all. I already knew about this thread, so I knew it wasn't for my exact MB. I searched through pages, and pages looking for screen shots, and BIOS pictures. You guys have a slightly different BIOS so I had to wing a few thing and change some options not exactly knowing what it did. I'm not sure about the LT/UT BIOS but if I want to up my Vcore I need to use the CPUVID option and set it to +175.0mV to reach a Vcore of 1.45. Looking around here it seems that the LT/UT BIOS has a Vcore option but I am not to sure.
Anyway after looking around and tinkering I am running at 475fsb, and ATM I am just going for max FSB and then I will tweak the rest later. I use a 1:1 ratio for this and 2.2 Vdimm so that I do not have to worry about my RAM stopping the FSB from climbing. I uploaded a screenie for you all to see, but I am going back to the BIOS for right now :).
just watch out, i just put my hard earned down on that one and then decided too look around and find more info on it... DFI LanParty LT X48-T2R but low and behold, motherboardpro.com is the only place that has it or any info one it.
Plus i googles all over and evey link led to info that refrenced the mbpro sale. i am concerned that there is no ddr2 x48...
Talked with shawn at DFI .He reports there is a x48 DDR2 from DFI:yepp: .

I can boot into windows fine and work (surf, email, etc.), but when I load up Prime95 it locks up in about 4-5 minutes. Screen is frozen, no BSOD or anything. I have to hit the reset to get out of it.Quote:
And whats happening with your PC on the moment you get the error? I've noticed some patterns here and there.
I'm using the stock paste on the SB, as well as the Shin Etsu stuff that came with the board for the NB. The Shin Etsu was pretty thick, but I placed a good-sized ball in the middle of the IHS and mashed it down with the stock heatsink & twisted before I secured the pins. According to Smart Guardian, the highest I've seen the NB get under load was still under 40C.Quote:
SB and NB hate MX-2 thermal paste, they need AS5. Always be carefully with those mounts (especially NB), they never fit properly (heat in some poor contact area can make your OC bsod or reboot).
But will the x48 ddr2 be a disguised x38? Wait and see...
Ill have a answer in a week in half,if things go smooth.
MX-2 needs pressure from at least 4 mounting points to get a smooth even contact (I mounted and unmounted uncountable times nb, sb and cpu hs's from different boards and noticed that with 2 points only there's not enough pressure for MX-2 to make perfect contact).
I observed little blind spots like "islands" and "waves" on the surface of the SB and NB that aren't present on the CPU.
My theory is that if those little spots without a good contact can heat up so fast that can BSOD during Prime etc without the sensors even catching it on time. That's why a perfectly cool system like t_sky's can suffer from those symptoms (not that this his case).
Interesting, might do a reapplication on NB/SB and see if it helps my max FSB heh
all I know about nb is that I hard mounted my NB air cooler (good pressure) and couldn't get stable 4ghz even with high speed fan.... now that I switched to mcw30 nb water cooling 4ghz stable 24/7 for 3+ weeks
Well I can't seem to get 500 stable or even boot to windows for that matter. I can go into the BIOS NP but windows seems impossible. I am to to keen about upping my voltage because I am not sure how high I can go. I am hoping I can get a bit of help here but I am going to bed for now. Thanks guys have a good night.
odd you should mention that , I had an x-38 I got in early january and cpu-z showed it as having an x-48 chipset, it ran a few hours while I set-up the rig and when I rebooted and went to flash the bios it rejected the bios and refused to boot after that, I rma'd it and the replacement (on the same windows install) showed up as a x-38? maybe somebody screwed up? It doesn't make much sense I know, but the first board acted very very screwy and refused a flash (also refused to boot with a fresh bios chip from Brother Esau).
ok, i think that one of 2 my banks is broken... the secondo bank in third slot (green) work great at any divisor, the other bank sux and fail orthos after a few second... but at 800MHz all of 2 banks work great, is possible? :(

Hi guys, I got a problemo.
Heres my specs, first off.
e6750
2gb corsair pc6400(2x1)
4gb gskill pc6400 (2x2)
2x 3870s
two seagate 320gb
one seagate 500gb (all sata)
now.. when I bootup.. itl boot up. itl even install windows.
when I try to change anything in the bios though (say, changing the hd priority) - it'l stop after detecting the cpu speed during post and give me postcode 50.
If I clear cmos it boots again. Whats up?
t_ski, 3600 a NO GO, no matter where and what voltage i increase.
3555 is absolute upper limit, i OOCT yesterday for 40mins at 3555. Any higher ---> BSOD.
I run 1.41 VCore, 1.38 VTT, Dram at 2.2 5-5-6-18 (OCZ XTC plats "value" ram) 2.2V
Run 333/800 8x442, mem at 530 but TRCD at 6, perf lvl 8.
5-6-6-5-18
4-48-8-14-11-3-8-3-4-3120-2t (as in memset)
anyone using an e8500 that would like to share there BIOS template for 4ghz?
Hi All! I've switched from the Abit to the T2R and I'm having an issue with my Areca 1220. Not OC'ing yet, the system freezes for a few seconds at a time and will not access anything on the Areca card using Vista x64. I've tried the card in the second and third 16x PCIe slots and used both the storport and scsiport drivers with no change. The problem doesn't occur at all when using the IX38. I also do not have a problem on the T2R when using Server 2003 x64.
Anyone else having similar issues with Vista or anything to try in the BIOS?
What do you suppose my Gtl setting should be set at? I am scanning this thread right not but I see you already 555fsb. I have no need for 555, not to mention my CPU wall is about 3.7. Can you please elaborate about the GTL I would really appreciate that.
Thank you for the help but no need to be rude. I have been searching through this thread for days there buddy, and I am sorry that 96 pages is taking so long. I did see that chart posted before and I also seen that it was for the P35 chipset. That makes me take it with a grain of salt. On top of that my GTL is not listed in percentage. Default is listed as 0.667X and that is what it says. I am sorry but I do not know how to relate that to a %. The next option is 0.661X, then 0.648X I believe. The NB only allows me to chose between two options and none are expressed in percentage.
Once again thank you for helping me, but please just ignore me instead of trying to embarrassing me.I don't come around here much but when I do I would rather not have to deal with arrogance. And incase I am wrong in the way I interpreted your post I would like to apologize ahead of time.
As far as I know there is no DX X38 T2R board. I thought I might have missed a new board but I just checked the DFI website and there have been no changes in new models. You have a DK X38 T2R? If that is the case then this long thread has nothing to do with your board and the GTL settings are in fact different. This thread is for LT X38 T2R since there actually never was a release of the UT X38 board.
funny i posted it 4+ times n you couldnt find it
i even posted 2 days ago
ignorance is bliss:rofl:
i help all i can as many in here have helped me
but would be nice if some people just tried to read the thread
dont worry Villainstone i will ignore you in the future:rofl:
I just got my system back up and running, but I have a couple of questions. I ended up doing a clean install with Windows Vista Home Premium, but when I was installing drivers, I kept getting a failure from my ATI Radeon VGA driver. I tried every version I had saved, going back to 7-10, and they all cause a blue screen after a few minutes. my work around so far has been to hide the driver update and use the generic Windows VGA driver, but the problem with that is my monitor is only running at 1400 x 1050, which is not its recommended setting.
My 2nd issue is that the ITE Smart Guardian software for the X38 will not show any data; if I use the Smart Guardian software from my DFI P35 series motherboard, it seems to work ok, but I am unsure if it is accurate or not.
My final issue is with CPU-Z. I have tried version 1.43, 1.44, and even the latest 1.44.1, and they all cause my system to reboot. Note that at this time, I have only a few utilities and programs installed.
The good news is with a modest 3375 MHz OC @ 1.2750 vCore, my idle temps in Core Temp 97 are 36-31-31-36 C, and Prime 95 load temps are 48-42-42-48 C. Smart Guardian is reporting CPU=43 C, PWM=48 C, Chipset= 31 C.
My NB is now water cooled, and I am running an Enzotech SLF-1 HS/fan unit (only 1/2" tall, so I can still use two video cards) on the SB. Next time I get a chance, I will add a 60 mm fan above the PWM area, and that should eliminate any heat related stability concerns.
I might be a bit out here but I think I remember Ace-A-Rue (Abit IP35 Pro master) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/member.php?u=1350 trying his Areca in this board. I am not sure which version of Vista he uses but I am sure he uses dual boot XP & Vista & it run fine.
I think he done something in the BIOS to get one of the slots to run @ x4 which I think also disabled one of the LAN sockets.
Edit: Genie BIOS / PCI E Slot Config : 4 x NC if its the same as my P35
As I say I may be a bit out but its worth a shot.
CN:)
Some initial results with my OC. Things are looking pretty promising, but lots to tweak yet as memory settings basically stock.

The results are looking promising though:)
[QUOTE=Praz;2687703]5:6. Parts of CPU-Z look messed up because it has issues with this board and Vista. A couple of entries have to be disabled in the ini file.
I am getting an instant system reboot if I try to run CPU-Z. I have Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. From Praz's post above, there seems to be a solution, but I haven't found it yet. Does anyone know what needs to be changed?
Listen I'm not here to piss people off, I just wanted help. Like I said I DID see that chart and I also seen where it was for a P35 chipset not ours. I wasn't being an ass to you if you think I was. I felt like you were trying to embarrass me or something with the way you put your words together. Maybe your intentions were good and that is just the way you type, maybe not. This isn't suppose to be a place of animosity for any of us. I know that I really don't want to feel like I am wasting my time coming here, and I certainly don't want to be wasting yours. I told you thank you twice infact, I meant no ill feeling in my post, but you definitely came off wrong with yours. If you think that you might still be able to help then please by all mean I would appreciate it.
To Rgone: Yes I have the DK the DX was a typo, and I'm sorry I got your hope up. At any rate when I seen the title to this thread I said to my self... if the UT and the LT are similar enough to share a thread maybe the DK can fall in suite. That being said how am I suppose to know that the UT was never release, seriously I don't follow the news quite that much I guess. I will just cough it up as wishful thinking.
To be honest guys I'm sorry for wating your time Rgone is right I am in the wrong place. Have a good one fellas and take care.
Not to try and give a lession in remedial math, but multiply your .667X by 100 and you get 66.7%. The .667X, .661X, and .648X are all percentages, just in decimal form. For a 65nm cpu, try .667X or 66.7% or a little higher. If your using a 45nm cpu, I'd try somewhere around .63X or 63%.
TY very much Phil I didn't realize that...obviously lol. Anyway the default setting is .667x and I was not able to boot to windows with anything above 475. I decided to drop it down to the last choice...661x and now I am in windows at 500 but not prime stable. I hate it when you know that you are so close but just don't know what to do next. I know that a lot of you guys would expect me to start at page one and read all the post to see what I can find but I have very little time to spend reading 600+ post. Please don't think that I am being lazy because I wouldn't have it this far if I was, and TBH you help is KINDA to find for this MB. In any event TY all for what help you have contributed.
I'm hardly an expert at this. Considering your board has a different bios and your running a different cpu anything I have would be different. You could try the thread on the DK p35 board. They should be similar and have a bios that's closer to your own.
2 hours stable at 500FSB fellas woohoo. I had to set the GTL's to 0.611, and leave the NB GTL at default 0.667. I still need to tighten my RAM timings a bit more but I want to get the MB stable first. I would like to push it up to 525*7 so that I can hit my CPU wall of 3.7ghz. Because of the limited BIOS options compared to the LT I am not very confident that I can get 525.
how can i make this better im trying to get the read up to 9500 so i can slap my friend with a maximus in the face by winning 4/4 for ram
read this page...it might give you some tips: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ighlight=areca
i had a problem with my QX9650, this board and vista64 on the areca card (and Intel chipset)...worked perfectly with XP SP2 operating system...also, Q6600 worked nice-nice with the areca card and vista64.
are you trying to access the areca bios from windows?
Thanks for the replies everyone. I had already set the 4x nc option, and luckily I'm not trying to boot from the array. I have a Raptor for that. ;) I had even backed up all data and just used a couple drives in pass-through mode and still got lockups upon trying to format them in Vista 64.
I have good news though; the problem seems to be fixed. In full desperation mode, I reflashed the Areca BIOS, firmware, and boot ROM, recreated the RAID 5 array, and then started with a clean install of Vista on the Raptor. Since then everything seems to be working with no issues. :woot:
dfi needs to improve the damn bios i was getting better everest scores with gigabut x38-dq6 "i gotta find the pics for gigabut" and gigabut p35
heres how u can lol
third n fourth pics are with p35
dfi gotta seriously improve the bios
but cmmon zanza u need to push a bit more lol
my problem is that i have the team group gmh but it acts like gkx, i tested a dominator kit with gkx and it was the same way no c5 over 1ghz so im doing something wrong, i have 1.5Vcpu 1.55VTT 1.55NB, any ideas on why it wont go higher
edit so here is ware i am now with the 333/800 multi c5, i had to jump over 1000-1080mhz to get c5 to work so im at 1164c5, it seams like bad (or non optimized) bios stuff to make the write drop and the read rocket up like this, or i need to start tweaking those settings that i dont know how to use like the fine delay or the board likes a cas of 8.5ns and lower
like my mushkins lol they wont do 1000mhz cas 5  even with 2.3v
i got em 4-5-4-12 @ 1050 with 2.22v"can do 444 but givin them a break lol"
i can do 4-4-4-12 @ 1120mhz with 2.3v
try 4-5-5 or 4-5-4 this board is verry picky on ram n 1-3 slots are better
if u were you i'l run the domintors i'm savin my d9gmh
i dont wanna rma n get garbage in return
you need to go 525fsb+ if you wanna see somthing positive
n to be honest i wish i got the dfi-p35:rofl: my gigabut board had crappy bios voltage options took 3 dead boards to get a nice one but gigabut bios suks
push the cpu a bit more i'm sure you can get 4.2 outa her
i know i can but that wont happen until i get liquid the enzo tech only goes to about 4.05 then it heats the cpu up to 60-65C so i dont want to go higher so im working on the buss, and the dominators arnt mine some1 in my enginering class lent them to me
zamz can u try ur mushkins at 1150 c5 im betting that they will post at 2.2
yup 1150 is ok 2.25v
its like i crash @ 500fsb with em n good @ 506-545
the dividers are :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up 5-5-5-15@ 1200 i get errors2.32v
but 5-4-4-15@ 1200 i'm good:rofl: 2.32v
on this board best divider is 333/800
they gotta give bandwith boost to 333/667=1:1 so it can shine with cas4
i wish my ballistix were rated 2.35 lol cause they rock on this board with only 2.1v
when they come out with the x-48 bios i gonna flash her with it i bet they made that bios make the board go faster;)
