Dave, I'm using 20 pin ATX and I am quite sure a 4pin connector will work just as well as an 8-pin version, although I haven't tried that. The system needs to be able to draw power from every connection, but it can't tell the difference between 20-24 and 4-8 pins attached AFAIK.

I'm more interested in 4-pin vs 8-pin, rather than 20-pin vs 24-pin ;) I could always get a Corsair VX450 (has 8-pin EPS and 24-pin ATX), but that's AU$100-120 as opposed to AU$50-55 for an Antec Basiq 350 watt (which has 24-pin, but only 4-pin ATX, not an 8-pin EPS).

They look a LOT like the corsair VX450's. But about AU$5 cheaper at ~AU$115 a pop. If they're doing >85% efficiency, it might actually be worth the extra money over an AU$55-75 PSU in the long term, assuming the cheaper ones average about 70-75% efficient, at least for something with a higher load like a clocked Q6600, not to mention it'd be a lot cooler...Quote:

Wow, that pricing sucks. I can get that PSU for 45€ (excl. taxes) around here... The VX also has excellent efficiency, even 1-2% higher than the Seasonic I think. They might be of similar build, Corsair uses either Seasonic (HX) or Channelwell (TX) as their basis, dunno bout the VX..
Yep, Australia, where we get ass-raped on a regular basis by hardware prices. Even with the way the Aussie dollar is doing, it's still a little bit cheaper to buy stuff from the US and get it shipped over. If only NewEgg shipped to down under... They'd probably put all the local e-tailers out of business :p:
And JohnnyGURU has a review of the VX450's, and they're fairly sure that SeaSonic is the OEM for it. It's got a lot of similarities to the S12-II 430 watt, and the VX450 averages about 83% efficient through most of it's load range.

For your rigs--I think a Seasonic SS-400ES or SS-500ES would be a nice starting point. Basic PSUs, 80mm fans, good build quality, though their biggest issue is they have only 2 SATA connectors--on the same cord. So basically for mATX chassis or using molex-to-SATA adapters. The 400ES goes for $50.
Aw right Bob, that's about how I remembered it. By now there are so many great PSUs on the market, I don't buy Corsair any more, too expensive xD
I can recommend the 500 and 650W TT Toughpower Qfans by the way, those are CW PSUs, modular cabling, perfect voltage stability and rather affordable.
Guys, I don't know if you knew about this website already, but there are VERY good PSU reviews out here.
Only downside about Jonny's is that he only has one or two reviews on decent <450watt PSUs, which is ideally what you're wanting on a Sammy. Aside from that, yeah, JonnyGURU is basically one of the best PSU review sites out there.

I finally got my CPU's, 2.0's. Got a nice endless beep and DS1 lights up, apparently this means CPU power bad or 8pin thing not connected. Swapped the cheap PSU with an EPS one, same problem. Besides, 4 pin should work fine as well. I guess I'll cry for a moment and find out the problem. Currently it's just the board with two memory modules and two CPU's, single CPU doesn't work either. Taking out the memory changes nothing.
Done crying now, after a thorough inspection of the board I noticed that near the side of the board on the back there are four sets of three resistors most likely part of the VRM One of these sets lacks a resistor numbered R683.
Does someone happen to have a X6DLP that isn't built into some case and could this individual verify that this resistor should be there?
Nm, it's the resistor. I figured why wait, took the resistor from CPU2's VRM and moved it to CPU1, board powers up and posts. Yay for me. Just need a new resitor for CPU2.
R683 ... a 683 ohm resistor? Pay careful attention to any/all other markings and you should be able to get a replacement at the local electronics/hobby store.
So no one's had luck yet with a mod to 200? :stick:......:wasntme:
