Thank you guys. What did you think of that ram?
I have the W3520 Xeon paired with my R2E. Tonight I decided to try the 1406 Rampage II Extreme bios, and to my surprise the uncore, QPI Link and ram dividers are no longer locked in my bios! I just updated the bios, but will do more testing later.
Here is a SS from the 1306 bios:

Awesome!
Keep us updated as to whether everything works or not.
Does anyone knows if 21x200 or 20x210 is better? I'm trying to figure out if high BCLK makes things faster (just like good old high FSB) or multiplier in the case of i7?
No, BCLK has no discernable effect on performance.
that, and i7 does not like even multis.
Got an issue i hope you'll be able to help me guys:) I unplugged all devices including power from the computer cos i was installing system on my 2nd computer. ( was using all the devices like mouse. power connector etc. with 2nd comp) When i finished all work i plugged everytning back and the computer acted like WTF is going on? It would not turn on screen ( i tried to unplug and plug the connector into VGA card with no luck) so i had to shut down the computer completly and after that .... the screen turned on but i saw a message OVERCLOCKING FAILED please enter bios..... i entered bios and just pushed Save & reboot. Then the comp turned off by itself and then immediately turned on as normal and i was on windows loading screen and now the computer works fine. WTF is that? The board doesn't have any memory if there is no power or what?
I have this RAM, I have been using it on 1403/1406 with no issues.
I have only managed 1734mhz 8/7/7/22 1.65v with them when at around 4.5Ghz but ive not played with subtimings at all yet; im still trying to get crossfirex working the way i want so its been taking up all my spare time.
Yea sure, ill be home later on tonight i do this for you then, however i think our RAM is not the same. Similar, prolly just binned differently.
These are what i am running: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...triple_channel
I think these are yours:

To get you moving now this is from memory, i was at 217x21 1.375v QPI/DRAM 1.4v. This is 20 Pass LinX ok, but 3DMark06 and COD5 are shakey, i think this is down to PCIe/IOH/SB tweaks i still need to do. All else is AUTO.

Hello guys
I got my computer stable with 4ghz(160x25) not that long ago I did 20 passes in LinX and primed for like 10 hours.
I did this like 2-3 weeks ago and it has been stable in games and everything for a long time.
But now recently after installing win 7 and stuff I started to get bsod, I dident get it in the beginning at all but like,
it came here and there after a while and now I get it everytime I try a game within seconds.
LinX fails insantly and I get bsod that says. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_ EQUAL or I get PAGE FAULT IN UNPAGED AREA.
Why? I tried bump my volts changed alot of settings in bios but nothing seems stable anymore LinX fails after like,
1 min and everything is just really unstable. all temps are fine they stay around 65c fully loaded.(computer in sign btw)
I current use:
Cpu Ratio: x25
BCLK: 160 mhz
vcore: 1.25v(1.24v real)
PLL: Auto
QPI: 1.387v(1.356v real)
rest of the volts is auto
ram runs in stock speed: 800mhz 8-8-8-24
Anyone has any idea or is my ram damaged that was my first thought I get because of the page fault bosd.
I use bios 1306 also btw but my power has been going out alot lately so I dont dare updating it...
EDIT: I am trying stock speed on cpu now and ram at same default 800 8-8-8-24 and now LinX passes without a problem.
So wth is wrong then this is really strange is it a windows 7 problem or what? I am really confused now,
I tried to bump all voltages I even tried like 1.35v on cpu but still it is unstable, Is my motherboard giving in?
I have a 920 D0 downstrairs I am gonna try that tomorrow and see what happends.
//Aqua
Often it's a device driver conflict, memory, or a general OC related problem. For no apparent reason I experienced it was a few weeks ago with Vista 64. I fixed it by error checking my OS HDD (in the properties or use chkdsk /f /r)...so go figure.
Anyone else notice the Turbo function in the bios switching from the extreme tweak menu to the cpu menu upon reboots?
almost BCLK 240 .....

Go go Hazzan :) PCI-E used there Sir ? I'm currently testing the Gene II and I'm stuck at 226 ( fully stable though ), Gene II posts till 232 in windows but freezes once I stress the rig. Will test the RE 2 this week...
hmmm i cannot prime stable for any thing above 21x215=4515 on i7 920
still benchable at 21x220to221 ~ 46xx Mhz
but it's okay for me
Not many can prime stable mate at them speeds... most top at 4.2-4.3 there, though benchstable at 4.6 is already pretty okay on air or water... be happy :)
Hi, does the new bios 1406, solve the cold boot issue?
I didn't have this problem until i got the corsair dominator GTs !!
any ideas??
also I cannot boot with anything above 222 bclk, I see many have the same problem but I wonder how the classified and the gene crack that magical number !!!
I'm seeing several of these boards for sale on different forums and they all have come at once....is there a new revision of this board or something i'm out of the loop on??
IOH voltage raised too ?
Here my setting...I boot BCLK 225 very easy from bios but depent on your processor..can raise high BCLK or NOT :D:D

I am using Dominator GT memory and BIOS 1306. I have never had a cold boot issue (fingers crossed).
I have used various BIOS versions in the last three months. Is there any compelling reason to flash 1406? I am running at 3.64 stable with air cooling and I have been as high as 3.8.
Also, I have a CO stepped 920. Do you think I will see much of an improvement if I get a DO step chip?
I'm testing a 920 D0 with a ambiant temperature at 28 °

Now I got big problems, first my water landed on the board! It's dry and running again! But now I'm not able to run the 21x200 stable with 2000Mhz Ram @ 9-9-9-24
WHY? @1024K I got an BSOD. Here are my settings:
VCORE: 1,2875
DIMM: 1,667
QPI: 1,40625
IOH: 1,2
ICH: 1,15
CPU and PCIe Spread Spectrum AUTO...should this be disabled? Should I reset my BIOS? It's 1406 from the owner before...It was not reseted by me for now!
Was the board powered up when it got wet? Was the water pure D I or did it have conductive aditives of any kind?
If it had power to it then there is no way to know what micro eloctromigration damage might have happened to a sensitive componnent. The base PCB itself would not be damaged but some of the microcircuitry may have been. Also, if the water was not totally pure and you have dried it but not cleaned it to take away any small but potentially harmfull residues you may still have some unknown high restance shorts bleeding signal to unwanted paths.
hello
I have a problem with for some time the computer starts.
if I start the computer cold (off for a few hours) I have this message at boot Reboot and select proper boot device, if turn off and restarts, no problem
if I hot start or restart, no problem either
I have the latest bios, 1406
that may come the problem?
thank you ;)
Anyone using the EK-FB RE2?
but under the rog logo near to chipset in present a fan??????
im in bubt about it....
i don't want a mobo with 50.000 hours capacitors, but with a little fan that makes noise and run for 1 year...
help me to discover....
its not a fan, its a light.
Im sure
Thanks Malik,
How was it to mount?
Was the supplied mounting kit good enough or did you need to use your own spacers, bolts or washers etc?
Also i got some HR-09's for the mosfets, i couldnt be bothered with the routing for both loops incorporating them too. Has anyone put these on their board?
i have 1403 installed but i saw that there is a 1406 in the ftp what are the differences between the 2?
Is it possible to flash the BIOS back from 1406 to 1403?
I read somewhere there's an older flasher program that will allow you to down-flash Asus BIOS. IIRC, it was version 1.6 something, but can't be sure anymore.
U have to use afudos via DOS.
U can download afudos from the ASUS-FTP.

Anyone with BIOS 1406 and Asus TurboV working?
Mine allways say "Function is disable! To enable this function, please set CPU ratio to Auto in BIOS.", even with CPU ratio option set to "AUTO" in BIOS.
If i checked with CPU-Z 1.51, Latest Everest or in CoreTemp, i could see Turbo is working, but not in Asus TurboV! Asus....:slapass:
I'm using Asus TurboV 10016.
Hmmmm, I am still using 1306 with it working well. 3.64 at 100%load W/HT enabled w/good temps. I think I will skip 1406 for now.
anyone has notice a discrepance on v-core rilevation during the load?
with llc enabled...
I give up! :shrug::mad:
Anyone with this board and BIOS 1406, could please try Asus TurboV and see in "CPU Ratio" tab, if it's working?
Even with Asus TurboV 1.00.41, doesn't work! In the BIOS i've "CPU Ratio" on "AUTO", "Speedstep" "Enable", "Turbo mode" "Enable"...
Here's a pic with the error...

Hi, guys.
I've just put together my first gaming rig with an asus board, I had MSIs with nForce chipsets in past and that was just one big headache as for overclocking. I was aiming for 4ghz 24/7 overclock on my new I7 with the RIIE. When I tried my first overclock I couldn't believe what happened, I just set the core voltage to 1,25 dram to 1,65 and up the bclk to get just over 4ghz, everything else untouched and the very first oc seems to be rock solid...I ran Prime95 overnight, Intel burn test, played around with some games(crysis, cod4...), did some compressing, movies decoding, 3dmark benching...just about everything, just to be sure and it realy is 100% stable... Now, what's my problem? It's just to good and easy to be true.....I ask you - way more experienced guys to check my settings(temps, volts) and tell me if I have everything on the safe side, I don't want to burn the chip or board.... Also, would anyone help me how to get higher, should I just keep upping Vcore or is there some other important setting/feature I should enable/disable to have it right? One last question, why is my chips revision not showed in cpuz and realtemps, I was hopping to get the DO revision as after quick research i found out it's supposed to be the best for oc, the Intel processor identification utility says my chip is rev. F, but that didn't help me at all since I couldn't find any info about F revision at all...anyone, please? Btw this is a great thread and the RIIE is in my eyes the best man can get, I fell in love with it already....
first, update your cpu-z it's kinda outdated
for 4.2Ghz
bump vcore to 1.35v
set the qpi ( try 1.35v first)
it worked in mine, might as well yours, try it.
Thanks. I'm gonna try it right now. What about my temps. Are they ok to go higher?
Ok, Cpuz and coretemps updated now show D0 rev. but the intel processor ident. utility still shows F, any idea which is correct? Tried those volts @4,4, it looked fine but bluescreened after about 10 mins of prime95 and the temps were 75-78C. I'm gonna do some research and reading of this thread tommorow as I don't want to fry anything after only about 20hrs of playing with it. Anyways, would the settings, volts and temps on the above screenshots be ok for 24/7?
i have find a new problem.....
i oc my cpu at 4ghz, and i am stable with 12 hours of linx with all the voltage manually set.
but if i plug off the current and i replug it, my pc is not more stable (only 15minutes of linx)....
it is super strange-......:-(
I'm on water. Tried 1,4v but the temps seemed too high (80-82)under load so I backed off to 4,2 @ 1,275Vcore, which I'll be happy with for now....running prime for about 3 hrs now and the temps are still below 70C.
Hi everyone. It looks like a new BIOS 1501 is about to come out, along with this OCing gadget.
Take a look http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...rog-oc-station
WTF happened to my PC. I upgraded to the latest bios 1406 had it working all day the computer. Powered of at night in the morning booted gave me overclocking failed message so I entered bios and did a reset to auto setting, reset computer, now want boot at all. No screen what so ever no writing on screen just want start to display anything on monitor? Reset CMOS jumper nothing..I don't know what to do is it a dead CPU? The lights inside flash as normal I don't hear any beeps either really confused?
LCD Poster says LOCKED!!
I had issues with mine setting the wrong uncore multiplier if I left it on Auto. Setting it manually helped me regain 24/7 stability between reboots.
But I cant get into the bios at all screen is just blank, No idea whats happened what has blown?
Could it be the Ram I had problems with it in the past
I"ll switch to RIIE and I wonder if MCW30 water block fit to chipset, or I've to order another one?
Thank's!
The exact same happened to me, couldn't get my board to post after shutting down the night after bios update. I just disconnected everything except of cpu, vga, one stick of ram, keyboard and mouse...and it helped, got it to post and switched to the shipping bios and all fine now... in my case it was some sort of memory compatibility issue... So, yes it could be memory related in your case...
If you haven't already, try the same as I did...It could help...Good luck man...
Who has the clock generator (SetFsb) of Rampage II Extreme ???
Hey! Do i need to buy an E-atx case to make this MB fit? Trying to find a alu case with good cooling and no sidewindow. And not the biggest mother out there either. Thinking of Lian Li but not so easy to get one in Norway.
Any tips?
Akando, I am using a large case (Tt Armor+ Alum) and I have lots of extra room. I am looking at the REII mounted in there as I type this and I am sure it will fit in a much smaller case.
Here is a pic that will show you how much room is still available.

hello
Having problems at boot, I test different things
if I put the sticks on slot A1 only or slot A1 and B1 that boot,
if I put a stick in the slot C1, boot hangs on DET DRAM, have to reboot (overclocking failed, press F1 to enter setup) I go in the bios, I touch on nothing, reboot and it's good
if I put the sticks on slot A1 and C1 it not boot (stuck on DET RAM)
it will be the slot C of the motherboard which would have a problem?
thanks
Be sure you are using slots A1, B1 and C1 not any of the number 2 slots unless you have more than three sticks of RAM.
of course I use the slot A1, B1 and C1 (blue slots)
edite Previous post ;)
Ye alot of space there... But i dont want a thermaltake again. To heavy and too much lights... But nice with the pic:) The plan was Silverstone Fortress but after this picture i dropped it:P http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling...spx?i=3454&p=4
Wont get a rampage in there....
Damnit need to find a smooth case before tommorrow!
Tks, but as I thought the problem was with bios 1406!
I flashback to BIOS2 - BIOS 502 (using the flashback option in BIOS), and then flash again using EZ-Flash utility, to BIOS 1306!
All my problems gone, and now even TurboV (v10016 and v10041) are working well!
Asus...:stick: :slapass:
Hard to find a case:/ Alu,small sidewindow or no window, good airflow and not much lights. GL to myself
If the mobo tray fits a standard ATX board but tightly with no additional room between the HD/front drives housing and the mobo, then chances are it wouldn't fit the R2E. It is about an inch wider. Also, if your case has a removeable mobo tray that has been carved up to fit a standard ATX board nicely (ie: Thermaltake Shark), then the R2E won't go in there. It's too wide to fit. How do I know? Well, I owned a R2E before and it didn't fit my Shark case.
I had a bad stick of Dom GT Ram. The three sticks all worked well initially then I had failures. I was able to isolate it to one of the three sticks by using one at a time. Corsair replaced all three with a new set. They cross shiped so I had the new memory in just a few days. While I was waiting I just ran the two good sticks (4 Gb instead of 6) Corsair was suprised that there could be bad GT but they agreed with my test results and provided excellent service.
The new set has been running trouble free.
I may be the same problem but I am not
What test did you do to find out which stick was defective? Memtest86+, etc...?
I ask myself (see post above) if it is not a slot on the motherboard that a problem...
stick on A1 => ok
stick on A1 and B1 => ok
stick on A1, B1 and C1 => DET DRAM at boot
stick on A1 and C1 => DET DRAM at boot
All I did was try each stick in slot A1 with the others not installed. Two of them would boot and one of them would not. Then I kept one of the good ones in slot A1 and then tried the other two, one at a time in slot B1, one of them would boot and the BIOS would then show 4 Gb, with the other one in the system would not boot. I then put the known good two in slots A1 and B1 and when I added the suspected bad stick in slot C1 the system would not boot. I then took all memory out and tried the suspected bad stick in all "1" slots, the system would not boot. My assumption was that I had identified a bad stick and Corsair agreed and replaced the entire kit. Until I got it I used the two good sticks (4 Gb) When I received and installed the new kit the system booted and showed all 6 Gb.
Since it was a clear non intermitant failure I did not mess with memtest.
Cooler Master CM Stacker 832 Black is on 30% off sale now. This is a good case isent it? Or should i get the Cosmos s?
ok thank you for your answer
I do the same, tested each stick in slot A1 is good then tested each stick in slot B1 is good and in the slot C1, it hangs at the ROG logo or DET IDE, etc. .. .
if I put the 3 sticks, it hangs on DET DRAM, I reboot and it's good
it will be the motherboard (slot C) who died?
thanks ;)
PS: the 3GB of RAM is recognized in bios and in windows
