I was quite supprised about how little the ram speed affected 3dmark06. But I´m sure that its a bigger difference between say 800 Mhz and 1200

There is a 50-50 chanse to get it right between yes and no,
not sufficient for me
wich is the best motherboard to do 4Ghz ?? I had 8Gb OCZ Platinum XTC DDR2 8000, 8800 GTS 640Mb, and my old motherboard is a Abit IP35, is this a good motherboard or change the abit for asus ??
the cpu i want is a E8400 Q745/Q746, is the best week ??
Does anyone else have problems running SuperPi 32M in Vista x64? I can do all of the other ones - only 32M fails after 4-6 minutes, even at stock settings. I can also Prime95 for hours. :|
I saw this thread on OCForums: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=543015
But also saw that many other people can run 32m in Vista... how odd :(
Maybe my chip really is better than I think it is since I switched over to SuperPi runs as a quick stability check before clocking higher.
FYI E8x00 degradation poll is up here:

My sensor doesnt drop below 51, even though the bios shows 33. Core temp is always showing 65 loaded. Real temp shows 55 ish. Before I needed alot more voltage but the temps were identical. I dont think the sensor is calibrated / working right with mine as my q6600 would make my rad warm when priming. This doesnt even get it warm. So for temps I can't really say. For stability with less volts lapping made a huge diff.
Even higher!

I can't get it stable at 500x9, but it was enough for Pi 4M and CPU-Z validation.

That has got to be one of the more impressive 45nm chips I have seen. Where did you get it from "zoob"? I'm from TO as well so if it is local maybe I can grab another one to play with my E8400 which only does 4.2Ghz @ 1.35V (15+ Prime stable).
From Intel :)
It is an RMA chip after my first E8500 randomly died.
Hallo..i m looking on my box and there says
E8400
Q805A226 pack date 3.3.2008
does anybody have the same as my?...:D
Yeah I had it, sucked ass though. Needed 1.40v for 4ghz and was barely even stable. Might be good for throwing at some duck or other waterbird.
Seriously, is not one time enough for asking?
Edit: Oh it seems to be a new code again, just dont spam too much. If anyone has them I'm sure they will report.

Woke up this morning and still hasn't failed Prime :D
zoob, run new version occt custom test :)
Prime needs at least 12 hours in blend and large-fft modes each ;)
I have seen some good results from the chips that have the T at the end...that is a nice chip.
Just recieved mine, will test mine when scan actually bother sending me my mobo replacement:

nope L740Axxx "T" 4.5ghz @ 1.5v seems good. I dunno spectacular, but I've hit 4690 bench stable @ 1.55v.
I've got the exact same batch as yours Retro, and running at the same 445x9 @ 1.344v (1.365v iln bios, load line calibration enabled). Most of the "T" 8400's were sold in Canada and Australia. Perhaps the T stands for "tested", as both my sealed retail units (Same batch, I RMA'd my first one due to stuck temp diode) had scratches on the back where they had obviously been pre-tested at Intel (...nope, this one sure ain't no E8500 :)Quote:
E8400 Q740A555T@4005MHz 445x9@1.344v
I hit 4610 @ 1.55v with my "T", but not exactly "bench stable" for more than a short period.Quote:

One thing which concerns me is my L2 cache latency of 4.0ns @ 445FSB x 9? I think mine used to be 3.4ns before, using the same Everest Ultimate latency benchmark? Has my cpu degraded, or is this 4.0ns L2 cache latency consistent with other users at 4.0GHz?
What are good batches for E8200?
It was a nice cool day here in Sydney yesterday, 19C room temps for a change, so I was able to get this:
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/1497/32m1046141ax4.jpg
I agree with your findings. I've bumped my 24/7 settings up from 4005MHz to 4200MHz to see how it fares. I just put in a set of Team Xtreem PC2-8000 which I got from TankGuys for $70. At NCIX, the same set is $436:eek: They have got to review their Team pricing.
I have booted into Windows at 500x9, but needed 1.47500v. and it wasn't anywhere close to stable. I don't know about the degrading cache thing, will have to see what mine shows in Everest first.
Here is a high overclock all on air and 3d mark06 with my 8800gts 512. I will post up the difference when I get the 9800gx2 for everyone to see... I know thats high volts for the chip it is for one run and is running fine still. Temps averaged 58C on load. Not a bad score for one 8800 gts. I think I can push it to 4.8 all air but don't want to buy a new quad core just yet.

Couldnt get past 445x9.0 so i skipped to 500x8.0, that worked great so now im doing 512x8.0 which gives me 4.1GHz, at 1.450 vCore set in bios, gives me 1.42 on idle, 1.38-1.39 underload.. not bad at all, pretty happy with my chip, and this board pwns. Gonna try to take it further next week, Easter tomorrow :)
Happy easter all

Hey mate,
Would that be FPO/BATCH# that you want?
FPO/BATCH#Q746A377
I got a PB with this on air yesterday also in 3D05,sp1M and sp32M but had loads of probs on the other 3D tests, I was only running the 3870x2 tho yesterday. Do you think this dual would be better for most 3D testing in comparison to the Q6600 I have?
4500mhz dual Vs 3850mhz quad.

After converting the Maximus to a Rampage, priming 4500 now
Nice cpu's you got there you 3 last people...
And all running Asus :) , that must say something...
my gigacrap sucks on this wolfdale... :( hopefully premium will cure that :)
regards.
If anyone sees a link that has them instock in the USA send it my way.
So normally E8400 can hit 4.0GHz with stock voltage no problem?
I don't think the cooling has much to do with it...you're gonna need voltage no matter how you cool.
Seems like a fair percentage of these chips can hit 3.6GHz (i.e., 9 x 400) on stock volts though...it would bode well if yours can do that.
Above 3.6 it becomes a crapshoot...mine hit 8 x 500 on only 1.275v while others seem to struggle for 4GHz even with much higher juice.
Mm... I'd just like to add my E8400 to the crowd. :) Here's the fastest SuperPI 1M on air I could ever do:

And here is a 3DMark06 screen of the 8800GTS G92 that I have:

My new E8400 has the batch: Q802A492
Has someone tested it or have some results of the Q8's? I dont want to open the box before I know this is a good batch :(
Here is a screen shot of mine.

My chip is a Q746A33 its not too good.. everyone i see who has great OC's is using a Q746.. my last 2 digits just suck though, i get 4GHz (check sig for FSB etc) at 1.425 in bios (1.39 idle, 1.37 underload) Terrible for a Q746.. :(
Just got my E8500, new batch Q807A067, hope this will get me 4,3GHz 24/7 on DDR3 1600 OCZ EB4GK.
Now i'm waiting for the mobo gigabyte X48T.
Here's the highest stable I have gotten so far:
http://xs125.xs.to/xs125/08134/setup-327312.png
I've taken out two sticks of ram and successfully run 2x2GB of this GSkill at 8x500 in prime for about 8 hours. With all four sticks in though, I can't get much higher than 450Mhz FSB. 460MHz has failed on all my attempts so far. Not sure if I should raise my NB or VTT voltages any higher than they already are.
@ UObean You really shouldn't need that high of NB and VTT. Maybe try VTT of 1.12 and NB of 1.45 tops. Also maybe try trfc of 52 and try performance level 8. Thats how I ran that ram on my T2RS anyhow. Also, thats for 450fsb on the ram. Just trying to help.
Larry
I got a new cpu here, e8500, Q746A580, needs 1.28v for 4ghz... nothing spectacular so no screenshot :D
Sucks imho... especially if you see e8400 and e3110 cpus do better...
Small update from my E8200.
4200 at 1.296V, not bad at all, I'd say. :yepp:

I hate you :p:
X4er0 where did youy get the 8500 ?
Thx
I need some help picking a motherboard for when I get my e8400. Right now I am looking at three of them right now.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127033 this abit X38 one
-or-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128089 this gigabyte X38 one
-or-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813141005 this XFX 780i one
Also I noticed that gigabyte has two versions of the X38 board, are they basically the same thing but with different cooling and some more cables?
Try Thermaltake Big Typhoon? (Not the VX one)
Here are my results using Big Typhoon:
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...am/PC/temp.jpg
Barely 50C
If you are using SLI well the Nvidia chip set is a must.
That's the best results I've seen for that chip - Awesome! I had similar performance from my e8400 before I beat on it (8.5x500 1.28vcore Prime hours).
The 525 FSB x 8 with that vcore is just great. Just to pick your brain - what did you find helped you get it stable at that low vcore? Was the 1.5v NB helping? Any other findings? How about your GTL settings?
Is it worth to get a e8400 when I already own a q6600 ? My 24/7 oc tops out at 3.7ghz with 1.49vcore, i'm thinking that 4.0ghz is a resonable goal for an e8400. Would this benefit me more daily over a quad ? I dont do any kind of encoding.
hmm i don't know how much money you have to spend but if it were me and i already have a q6600, i wouldn't justify a $200+ for the performance gains even though you ususally wont utilize the full 4 cores currently
I'll post some screenshots from the bios settings later on.
GTL's at 66/66/67

oniL, that's a very sweet result at such low voltage.
What's the vCore set to in the BIOS?
Nice work!
That's the type of chip I like to see. I had a lot of luck running super low v with 8x and 8.5x and fsb 500. The trick was to keep every voltage setting low and in my case the GTL settings to in the 59 - 61 range.
What were your settings Onil?
All settings on the motherboard are lower voltage

d'acordo :P
Well nothing Xtreme like some of you guys but it will do.
Under load and with many many programs running along and without my external 12' fan pushing air in the tower the core temp reached 60degrees.
I even managed to hit 4302MHz but i had to push Vcore further and i just couldnt see it reach 64degrees..Was too much for only 297MHz gain.
Oh VCore is 1.375v and CPU PLL 1.58v.
If someone here get's a new e8400 with the batch: Q802A492, deliver it back, sell it, or throw it to the trash. It runs on defualt voltage on 3.6ghz which sounds good, but on 4.0ghz it need 1.43V or more (haven' testet it over 8 hours), but it failed under that. So beware! Almost all here on this thread seems lucky with their e8400, but I have never been. First a Q748A that needed 1.43V in bios to get stable and now this **** :bsod: :brick:
Why it always have to be me :(
Got my new Q750A205 8400 running today and looks like this might be a nice baseline at this point. I'm gonna try to tighten up the memory and see how much faster it will go while staying under Intel's 1.45 vcore max.
