excellent results Pedro, Does more volts help you at all? Can you show a ram timings shot or is it the same as the previous screenie? Looks like Oskar has really outdone himself. I think you just sold me on this board. With the delay of the Expert and Grouper's performance not beating DFI's flavor so far, I'll just say, screw it, I can't wait forever, ordering now, hehe. Not like I can't just sell it later anyway if one of those other ones proves to be better. This round of ATI based boards, very exciting times indeed, props to ati too.

Yes, CPU-z does not read the core voltage correctly with this board - even with new 1.3.1 version always read 1.450V, this need to be fixed :(

Smartguardian voltages are correct still :cool:

So i was bored (i mean really bored) after getting this thing going. I made a few little tweaks for SmartGuardian.

No probs at all with the moded VapoLS (stronger compressor + extra coil) - CPU temperature idle around -32º C in bios..
Same behaviour of the DFI NForce4 in single phase..

There was some rumors that the mobo can minimize or even cure the problem, I never beliave it.
I have serious doubts that any board can resolve the issue, it is a problem inherent to CPU, not motherboard / chipset related..
I wish I was wrong ..spend a lot of money in a FX-57 that give me disastrous results in the cascade at -100ºc or even less .. :mad:

Anyway I will test this mobo on Ricky's cascade in the next days, I will let know the results :cool:

Cold bug

As you chill a cpu the drive strength from the memory controller increases, so you start overdriving the memory.

So, you have to weaken the drive, you can ONLY do this on the motherboard. You have to switch in resistors that alter the drive weaker or stronger depending on the resistance used. This is also one of the ways you tune a motherboard to clock ram well or a specific type of ram..IE...TCCD etc.

Now its not a full on cure to the cpu overdriving the ram, but if tweaked correctly it will allow a higher fsb to be reached.

So...Cold bug is not a serious issue, its just because the cpu's are not designed to run -50 from the onset, but to say nothing can be done on the motherboard is not true....the only way to even half fix the issue is with tweaks on the motherboard or design the cpu to run at -50 or lower.

Testing at ATI of Gruper and halibut proved this theory correct, if it didn't work we would not have designed it into the board. It won't work for everyone as every cpu is different, but it will help.

actually, the dothans are 90nm arent they (makes me sick to say the word....ah ignorance is bliss, become a fanboy :D)

and people have put them under LN2..

onto not hijacking a thread...

will the RDX200 be able to clock TCCD as good as UTT with new bios updates, or is there someway to hardware design the mobo the be more efficient (if thats the word) with certain types of memory?

On the RDX200 you have a drive strength range from 1-15 .
WHat's the strongest/weakest value?

I haven't played with all the drive strength settings yet , 7 seems to be a good 'default' for my board/memory (tried TCCD and BH-5)

1 to 8 are just like 1 to 8 on the NF4 with the evens being normal drive 8 being strongest and 7 being weak strongest drive. I may rename 1 to 8 to make it a little more straight forward.

now 9 to 15 i have no idea, i don't know what resistance they set aand i don't actually know if the odds are still weak and the evens still normal. I should imagine 9 is weak and 10 is normal etc and 14 is the strongest drive normal and 15 is weak strongest drive...but its hard to say.

Pedro are you running that rig 24/7 wit the LS or is that just for benching? I was interested in buying a RDX200 for my 24/7 gaming rig. Going with a FX-57 2x1gb ballistix and 2x74gb raptors raid0. Would like 3ghz atleast on water and maybe 3.4 on modded Vapo LS for 24/7. Will this be compatible or should I just go with the Expert?

I threw my week 32 FX57 on this board using my cascade. It was useless, I used all drive strengths and the CPU just couldn't handle the cold.
On the other hand, my previous FX57 ran at -90C all day with no drive strength tweaks. That was on NF4 DFI.

It’s all about the CPU.

Im sorry but thats just 2 CPU's, when you have worked over a broad range of cpu's and the tweaks show a gain over all of them you go with that data.

Now, i never said its a cure, i said it helps....even if you got 15fsb higher than you did in the NF4 its still a gain.

It's too bad we have yet to see a good compare with the same cold bugged CPU on NF4/RS480 yet. I'd do it if I had a cascade.

curious how that works, my understanding was that once you hit a cetain temp you just couldnt boot anymore....
