Although it is the dual 12v rail version, eWiz still has the FSP 550 for quite a bit less than newegg: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PS-FS550PN

Ah, nice to see you're back Jeff.
Once the disease catches you, you can't quit (maybe shortly, but you'll always come back).
Something else :
does anyone know any good aircoolers for these 1.6 xeons?
The IWT's noise is too much, and I'd like something more quiet, but good performing too.
Asus PCH-DL is an alternative if you need 64-bit PCI slots. It's design is very similar to PC-DL.
Power delivery on Asus boards aren't so good, best to get PSU with adjustable rails (e.g. OCZ PowerStream), or mod the boards.
NCCH-DL limits FSB to 233 (max I could go is 239). Best board is still the expensive IWILL DH-800.
1.6/2.4 LVs are good choices. Get the CoolerMaster heatpipes.

A note about PSUs :
I have an Enermax EPS12V 660W (dual-rails) but the board is poor with voltages (droop etc). Using another OCZ PowerStream 520W gives better OC after I adjusted the rails.
Thanks for the link.Quote:

I found a a store in germany which sells the CM heatpipes.
The passive E3W-NPTXC-01 is sold out.
Would the E3W-N73CS-01 or E3W-N73SC-01 be a good alternative?

I'm trying to get a pair of E3W-N73SC-01 coolermasters through a shop in Gent... I'l let you know how they perform when I get them, ok?Quote:

Going on what Jeff said, I fricking love my dually, its my main rig, I spend more time on it than any other puter, including my nice un fast A64. I just need another gig of RAM in it then Im sorted. A new PSU would be great as these CPUs boot at 3.2 but I cant get any more than 2.94 stable for D2OL, so if there is anyone out there who can "donate" a good PSU for the cause I would very much appreciate it. Im only running an antec 350watt ATM.
X2 AMD64 are just too much money ATM.
Thanks.Quote:

I might go for the E3W-N73CS-01, as they're only 25€/piece.
But I'll wait for our results too.

I have finally given in to my curiosity of the dual xeon 1.6 OC. Im ordering a pc-dl deluxe and two 1.6 lv SL6XK cpus. I already have a dual xeon server running, but this one, I want to be my everyday windows machine. How stable would this be running at say, 2.5-2.7 Ghz running d2ol and regular windows stuff and gaming? I have two sticks of 512 Mb ddr400 infineon. I have read that windows 2000 pro (that i have) will only recognize the physical cpus. Is that true? So, I need xp pro (that i need) to recognize the logical cpus and utilize the potential? I have a Tagan 480 watt eps p/s for it with 3.3v 28a, 5v 48a, 12v 28a. The CM coolers that I am thinking of using are rated for 3.06 Ghz, does that translate in to OC speed?
Good deal. Added to the guide. http://www.adventurevision.com/smilies/cheers.gifQuote:

Best to combo with low-noise fans in push-n-pull config (cable ties required). Optimum cooling performance at low-noise. Long discussion here
Remember that for ASUS PC-DL or PCH-DL you need Coolermaster E3W-NPTXC-01
Use E3W-NPTXS-04 for ASUS NCCH-DL or IWILL DH-800 boards

BTW, just noticed your siggy... think you could run Cinebench and post your results? Dual 4GHz is impressive!!!
I just took apart the whole rig today for fan/heatsink modding. Only 1 CPU is installed now, screenies posted below. I'll post again when both CPUs are up.
With single Xeon, my NCCH-DL can scale up to FSB 285MHz (limited by my memory). When in dual-CPU mode, the FSB is cut by half. The highest I could go stable was 238MHz.
Cinebench make Noconas look weak. Dual 4GHz scores around 795/33.2s or so, but SuperPI scores are better than Gallatins/Prestonias. Prestonias at 3.6GHz will beat my Noconas at Cinebench :D
SirG (from 2cpu.com) who has dual 4GHz Gallatins scores Cinebench 870/30.3s. Check his sig here
My screenshots :
Xeons VID u-wire from 1.3875v => 1.4500v
Idle 46C, load 55C, open case with table fan :D
Single CPU 285 x 14 = 3992MHz PAT 3-4-4-8
Single CPU 229 x 18 = 4132MHz PAT 2-3-3-6

Both guides are not the same. The link contains additional hardware purchasing & modding info, including alternative coolers, boards & u-wire mods of fsb/bsel from different gen xeons. Doesn't 2cpu & datamine have those info as well?Quote:

I picked up some xeon cooler master hs/fans cheap ($8 each) from my supplier. Nobody in town sells them retail or even know what they are supposed to look like :D And I didnt want to pay online retail 50 or 60 bucks anyway, I hope these will do.

Man... I forgot I sold/gave away all my spare memory. :( And it looks like NewEgg.com is out of that great TwinMOS stuff. :( :(
Sucks having almost a complete rig sitting here doing nothing.
