not just pci frq is my problem.. all the MB voltage has to be exact for example 1,45 VNB, 1,3 VFSB 1,6 VSB etc.

ya like i said, i didnt tuch the pci frequency, just changed the mobo voltages from auto to manual and it seems it fixed it for me

cant do these clocks on air thouhg , need water for the vcore im pushing = ) 1.7v set or around 1.63-1.65 real

btw tried playing around a little with pci-e freq and at 110 or more i loose my onboard lan !?

Has someone got their onboard lan running more then 100Mbit ? cant seem to set 1000Mbit anywhere and autosense sets 100Mbit also really crappy speeds at 100 = (

Lol, Vcore was set to max, 1.7V, that is 1.62V in real.
I used all of my casefans to cool cpu :D

I didnt test with clockgen, it may have gone little higher then.

well i heard of others p5bd dying and want to report same happened to me. i heard a loud bang from my case and it froze up. i reset. fans spin up and no post. i suspected a capacitor. i checked the board over every mm and there was no visible damage. psu was fine. i ordered a new board and got it delivered today, fitted it and it posts. i was using the 0804 bios. i been using it for quite awhile and flashed with 0804 bios and it died after few days. i hope this 0804 is not the reason it died. just a concidence right.

also the pioneer dvd/cd writer has been temperamental reading the dvds. when i boot up its read as a cd rom drive. i tried 3 brands of dvd blanks and been slow and eractic. also you slip a dvd in drive and click on drive and it comes up with disk error. im sure it the same problem has others have reported. the jmicron drivers. has anybody tried using the very latest drivers. if not using the standard ide drivers works right.

I've a new Pioneer dvd burner which was also very slow for no apparent reason on my P5B-D. Updated the firmware from pioneers website and it now works perfectly. Worth a try ;)

i dont use the jmicron at all.it is disabled in the bios.i use a samsung sata dvd/rw.i have had no problems reading or writing discs.

Dont forget everything is stable and this only happens on cold boots, it is almost as if the crash free bios 3 is inisiating itself, also dont forget this same problem has, and is happening on 2 completely different boards, the Abit and the Asus, same components just different mobos, Crucial wont RMA the mem cos its passing memtest even at DDR900 without errors, the boards have been tested by the company I purchased them from with no probs, the only thing left is the CPU and I really cant see that being the problem.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated cos its doing my knutt. :stick:

= ) crazy , its my 24/7 vcore on water.

My router/server is a 1.2 Ghz unix machine with iptable script and dual giganics so it should handle gigabit = )

1. Have you tryed hard setting all the Nics?
2. Auto Sense should never be used.
3. Your PC is 10/100/1000 your server is 10/100/1000 whats between the server and PC? Hub, Switch, Crossover Cable?

well if auto performs better then it should be set = )
Crossover Cable for now but im sure its not the other rig since it was alot faster sending files to my old rig which had a 100Mbit onboard nic , it maxed out around 12MB/s both ways now im att 12/6 MB/s no mather what setting.

I have a very similar setup (linux box, 3com 24 port 10/100 switch) but I use 100 full with 10mb uplink to the cable modem of course. Auto negotiate will only work if both sides are set to auto. It sounds like your server is set to Auto. The reason i say that is because you are getting faster speeds with auto. That happens because your computer when set to full-duplex and not Auto does not send a response back to the server. This makes the server assume you are set to half-duplex. This results in a duplex mismatch and horrible speeds. Some people know this but just explaining it since there are big mis-conceptions about Auto and how it is supposed to work. Setting your PC to 100/full and the Switch/Server to Auto will not = 100/full. It will = a duplex mismatch of 100/half.

I use the linux box just for routing its a 300mhz small form factor. Not sure about glft (i am not a big unix/linux person) A Linux friend of mine helped me configure the router box to begin with. I can do basic troubleshooting and putty into it but thats about it..... Its a basic Red Hat Enterprise 4 install with the Iptables configured manually no Xwindows or fancy stuff. I use a a MS SBS (dual p3 600mhz) to handle DHCP and File Shares.

Still no new sound drivers from Asus? What's with this??

And have anybody tried crossfire with the X1950 Pro? Im having strange performance issues and problems getting games working with catalyst A.I enabled.

1950pro crossfire suxx on the p5b at the moment
3dmark might produce half decent scores, but games are another thing entirely :(

regarding the x1 issue....what tools are you guys using to overclock your video card? i was using coolbits, but perhaps coincidentally when i switched to atitool to o/c my 7900 gto, i haven't had x1 issue anymore.

my MB is also 1,03g and C1

damn,i just got my asus p5d deluxe and i must say i'm loving it
i was able to do 320fsb x 9 out the box without touching any other settings,didnt set ram timmings,nothing...now i tried to read a lot here but the thread is too BIG to go through everything so please people what do i need to do from here to attain 400 x 9 with no problems?
i updated the bios to the latest version and i have 4gbs ram just to let you know

i just hooked up that fan that comes with the p4b deluxe that says 'use only for passive or water coooling'. it has no affect on my CPU temps (zalman) so i'm gonna leave it on. i imagine that it can only lower NB temps which hopefully will give me more FSBs.....but it is a little loud.

I have actually done the same thing using a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, it blows air into the chipset hs and that lil cooler seems to take what it blows onto it off faster and brings my chipset down like 10C from testing I wondered the same thing about a month ago when i was messin with it

Just bought a P5B-D 1.03g last Friday at Frys, its a C1 stepping P965 also. I thought all 1.03g were C2 ... guess not. I am loving the board though, running my E6300 and Team Group D9 at 510 FSB 1:1 4-4-4-10 2.30VDimm, memtest and Prime95 stable.

There are full 4580 drivers out there that supports DTS if i'm not mistaken, however once i installed it, it once again had aslow boot, (e.g no I/O activity on the HDD part for a few scroling blue bars at start up).

you must install at "f6" the following;

1) intel raid driver
2) intel chipset inf utility
3) jmicron raid driver
4) intel matrix storage driver

the chipsets on the board need those drivers for configuration purposes,

no driver, no talky...............in other words; the south can't talk to the north when they speak different languages and the drivers act as a bridge to be able to communicate between the different chipsets regardless of what "theme park" the respective territories adopt.

why would you use a generic windows driver thats probably 5 yrs old when the jmicron driver is designed specifically for the chipset on this board for any ide devices.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to install all these drivers during F6? or even just the Jmircon raid and intel matrix storage drivers. Using the Asus disc to create a raid driver disc for floppy will only install one of the drivers and no more and you can't use multiple floppy's to install with.
I am trying to solve my intermittent IDE DVD/CD rom issues.

4gig wont help it will lessen your chances because you oc'ing 4 sticks instead of 2 so all 4 have to perform which is more strain.

just forget them all. you dont need to install them there but after you installed xp. only one you need at f6 is raid which i doubt you using somehow.

Just use 1.55V for NB.
The memory controller isnt in the cpu, so it wont effect it.

Vdimm is only the memory (chips) itself? So u mean if u had 8gig u have to use 2.4Volt?

When more memory, the northbridge needs to do more, so higher the nb . 1.55V is enough.

Babsy ... leave all that Asus AI :banana::banana::banana::banana: ... uninstall everything except Asus Probe and Asus Update ! Then go to bios and do this:
1."Cpu config" tab - Disable everything - cpu multi lock @ 9x
2. Free jumper set. tab - 400FSB/800ram (assure ure in 1:1 ratio) / 1.45Vcore , 1.55VNB , 1.6VSB , 1.057VICH , 2.1-2.2Vdimm, Disable spread spectrum, Lock PCI-e @ 110 , Lock PCI-clk @ 33.33
3.Also its recommended that u disable all fan controllers in bios

If it doesnt post or it aint stable leave everything as above just change cpu multi to 8x , put 450FSB/900ram , 2.2-2.3Vdimm(u should also set manually ram timings at 5-5-5-15) and see if it works. GL

Most used clock when overclocked:
vnb= 1.55V
Vsb= 1.7V
vfsb=1.4V

I have problems with jmicron+audio.I've tried all the drivers but i cannot fix it..4580 is the best so far.

When is asus going to release new official bios to fix some of these obviously bios-related issues we're having :confused:

Yeah with all the problems people are having with the audio and slow boot times I just disabled the on board sound and put in a old SB Live that I had laying around the house. Pretty horrible support from Asus on their drivers :slapass: , the on board audio is supposed to be pretty nice if they can ever get the drivers fixed.

I have 3 SATA drives and just want to install them on the Intel ICH8R controller.
(Not the JMB. I just want to connect my "old" DVD burner here ). First disk intended as OS disk (No RAID) the other 2 as RAID 1.
How to do that. ?
In Bios I found an option for EDIE configuration [EIDE,AHCI,RAID] but cannot set individually for each device. ???
Seems to me there is no option to just mix a RAID,NON RAID configuration on a single controller.

Tried the new drivers and still has popping and sound problems. At this point keeping or getting a cheap sound card might be an option. I really wish Asus was on top of their game. This board has been a nightmare with all the issues it has. :( But if you want to spend a month tweaking then I guess it can be a great board, just wish they would put a sticker :fact: on the box that tells the user that.

I notest that i have poping sound even with a creative Audigy with the peg ling above normal (faster),try normal mode there.

hi guys, i bought a p5b-dlx 1.03g . suprb but i had the X1 link bug. flashed to 0804 from 0711 and it got fixed .

its a damn nice mobo :D

I never got t try any BIOS, my first P5B-D was DOA, and the second died after a couple of reboots. Got a nasty burning smell from the board. I guess I was lucky it didn't take anything else with it. My first Asus board and I am not impressed.

Well...after several weeks of corrupt data, crashes no post, clearing cmos trying diff ram slots trying one stick pulling cpu, etc..... reformating reinstalling windoes over and over and over.....I finally could not get my P5B to POST...no matter what I tried....was about to RMA it when I tried some some OZC 675 that I had in another system an wala! It's running @ 3700 @ 370 FSB 1:1 @ 740 fine now (The RAM).

Now to try the GSkill HZ PC6400 in the other board to see if they are bad or does the P5B not like it....funning thing is it's been running fine for months up untill a couple weeks ago!

Plug in just your RAID disks, then set the controller to RAID, push CTRL-I to go into the raid setup when prompted then create your RAID-1 (give it a somewhat distinctive volume name). Power down and plug in your OS drive. When you install windows push F6 for the raid driver installation, install the intel driver, select the non-raid volume and create your install partition.

To follow up cozpolt's post you can also use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager in Windows once you have installed...But you must set your BIOS to RAID and install the RAID drivers using the F6 method.

And why the heck do people want to install the Intel and Jmicron drivers at the same time? You just need to F6 for drivers for one or the other for your BOOT drive. You can install the other one from Windows. And BTW, as long as it's not your boot drive you can switch from AHCI/RAID back to IDE and vice-versa (well unless you have a RAID config). You can not do this with a boot drive because AHCI/RAID changes the boot blocks.

Indeed, the only driver that you SHOULD install during windows setup is the driver for the controller to which your OS volume is connected. If you absolutely MUST have both drivers at install time you can slipstream the drivers into your XP install disc, it's not a hard process:

my ram's voltage is 1.9 so i guess raising it a little shouldn't create any problems right
what do you use to monitor temps?core temp is giving wrong temps from the one i see in the bios
i'm about to try these settings here

Just to summarize:
-Onboard sound ADI DTS driver problem (scratching, crackling, popping sound and slow boot time into windowsXP etc) My board has it, cant run sound test no.3 in 3Dmark03 = driver problem most likely
-Double restart on high fsb - mine solved with bios update
-4:5 fsb:mem issue - ???
-PCI-X 1x issue - ????
-VDIMM @2.15 doesnt work issue - mine has it
-Mem timings 4-4-4 > 4-4-3 > 3-3-3 issue - ??????==>

I think this mobo is setting its own WR :D

If you read http://www.codemonkeyx.net/node/22 there seems some people have problems with "Windows Installation" of the JMB drivers resulting in strange driver/controller allocation ending up finally with DVD drives on PATA connector not working properly very slow etc. I have seen several complaints here in the forum.

I did not understand setting is important only for the Boot device. !!

Raise the vdimm as i told u .. 1.9 is to little for what u want
Best temp monitors are CoreTemp and TAT ... they report the internal (die) temp of the proc ... bios and asus probe only report temps registered by the mb sensors.
Try the settings from my first post (be sure not to miss anything) and come back with the results ...and hopefully a bear or two ;)

Does anyone know how to increase fan speed to 2800 rpms without using qfan-or ai programs? I know people working with winbond but I can't wait to oc more & more fans in my case seem to make temps go up or the arctic silver 2 I used is "old"? or not as good as the stock thermal pads used when I switched to the 680.

I just bought this motherboard for my new E6600 BUILD. Did I make a good choice? My goals for this build is to hit 3.5GHz+ using my 630A832 E6600 chip. Will this board make me happy? I've been using a DS3 for my current E6300 and this board is awesome, but this time around I wanted something made by asus. Please tell me I made a good choice for a good and solid oc'able motherboard.

@Hot_fifty: I found that disabling CGI, setting PEG Link to Normal, increasing VNB, VSB, VFSB or a combination of the previous, fixed my problem. But the problem sometimes does reoccur with a failed OC on my gfx card.

Oh no I thought I was going to skate by with the p5b delux wifi/ no big sound issues. Today I went to put my bios (recently went from 0804 to 0711) I thought it may help latency feel in gaming. Anyways went to bios settings to go back to default...for the 6600. I have an audigy 2 platinum installed too (recently - no problems for a week) to test latency ...and The system came back to xp windows active desktop recovery and super loud static. :O

Any Ideas?\
Flashed to bios 0804...thinking I must install windows again and am wondering...should I ditch the audigy or keep it. HD audio was Off...all settings were fine. The only thing I changed was to let asus bios set the voltages & timings for memory etc at 266! Last night I did add a few fans because the temps seemed hot ever since (last week) when I switched back from the 680 BFG....\
So I had to use arctic silver 2 with the chip.

So far it is totally locked up with active desktop recov. & spinning hourglass...:confused:

the board seems to lower it's PCIE X16 bandwidth to 1X when overclocking. on some boards the problem is quite serious while the others dont have the problem

I set all the latests voltage so the color is lilla / purpur, f.x. vFSB to 1,3, vNB 1,45 and so on... vSB at 1,6. Then my problem disapers

The solution which has most consistently worked for me over weeks.

PCI-e frequency @ 110Mhz and SB Vcore set to 1.7V

However I do get the 1x once in a blue moon. I get rid of it with one power cycle.

SO i guess we can live with it.

lol i solved my 1x problem by putting all mb voltages from "auto" to lowest value except for the nb at 1.45.......


so for all who have the problem : You just have to try by yourself various voltage and pcix mhz configs to solve it.....on another note pulling the power from the psu and hitting the power button to discarge the caps on every shut down / reset my system always booted with pcix at 16x


we need a new thread about this or something to many posts about it and information is spread out so noone reads it and just asks again and again

guys its simple , southbridge is responsible for controlling the pcie bus , so when we overclock the system it needs more voltage in order to keep up at X16. Just like we increase the voltage in the NB to keep it up to the FSB we want.

If it was that simple, raising SB voltage would solve everyone's prob. But that isn't the case... ;)

well i Lowered all voltages and it fixed it

There's many solution dudes. some1 works the voltage raising some1 else the pciex freq to 103+- , some1 else the bios flashing , and some1 else the pciex link to performance mode.

THere is always a way to fix it, .

you lowered but maybe auto in p5b dlx is a value lower to that of the lowest value except auto

I have a P5B-DLX on order from newegg, so Im diving head first into OCing this board using a E6600. Before I start tweaking everything, I would like to know what BIOS everyone recommends here? If someone can answer me, I would be very thankful.

Be sure to turn off the HD Audio in Bios and only install the driver for your XF-i thus turning off onboard so it doesn't get all messed up. I had zero problems with the 0804 bios. I think these boards are voltage gremlins...at least I dont have a hardware tool or knowhow yet to test but software wise the probe2 & ai programs read things differently than core temp etc. I think one would be better off only installing the net connection/intel drivers wo the rest unless needed. Despite that asus green is supposed to be cool - it can get hot and doesn't turn on the fan properly to fix it with "performance" speeds. I rather have a winbond driver / reader tool & have the fans max when I need it not stuck at 1800. Voltage appeared to flux while watching cpu-id before I crashed. Am using ocz 700 & have an ups. Will keep things mildly oc until proper cooling.:rolleyes: Did a fresh install with minimal programs for now.

Hey just got me a 628B E6600 and PB5 Deluxe. Already had some of the 10th anniversary crucial ram. Using 614 bios. So far stable at 8x400, 1.35v in bios, 4:5 div, 5-5-5-12 When I try 1:1, I just get reboots. I'm at about the max for my ram. I'd like to boot at 8x400, 1:1, and clockgen up to find cpu max. I see most here are on the 804 bios. Is the consensus that they are the best? Any others with problems running 1:1?

probably a noob question, but i wasn't sure where else to post it, so:

Is this 1.8/1.9V ram still an issue with this board? was there a bios update that fixed this problem? if so, which bios?

If it hasn't been fixed, is there any cheap 2 x 512 or 1GB modules you guys would reccommend that would work with this board (voltage wise) out of the box?
