I've been benching a Q9450 and P5E3 Premium since July 2008 not wanting to jump to i7 right away. I just pulled the trigger and bought a Q9650 + P5Q3 Deluxe WiFi @N board, G.Skill 2x2GB 1600Mhz 4GBPI Black and eVGA GTX285 from Newegg yesterday. I bought the P5Q3 Deluxe because my current media server is running an Intel DG33FB/E6850 which I was going to throw my Q9450 in when the Q9650 arrives but as far as Intels site goes the DG33FB does not support my Q9450. It says the board supports QUADS up to 1066FSB.
So, I will bench the hell out of the Q9650 on P5E3 Premium and P5Q3 Deluxe and will then keep the best performing board in my main rig and put the other with the Q9450 in my media server.
I should have all the parts by Tuesday and will start posting results in this thread. I have all kinds of memory to test: two sets of G.Skill 2x1GB 1600Mhz HZ D9GTS, Mushkin 2x2GB 1600Mhz D9GTS and just purchased a set of G.Skill 2x2GB 1600Mhz 4GBPI Black.
I have had great success with my Q9450/P5E3 Premium overclocking it up to 515FSB, 512FSB benchable all with Vcore at or below 1.45v. I have heard alot of people stating P45 alows higher FSB for 45nm Quads so thats why I went with that Board.
Got my new Q9650 the other day, batch is L826A965.
First try is this, its 100% P95 stable for 12 hours, I just didnt save a screenshot. I might can get it lower than 1.264 with some additional tweaking just havent done alot since ive only had it for a day

Posted @ 4.8 but wouldnt boot windows, used the same voltages i did for 4.6 but was too tired to try anymore. Ill post again if I can get validated @ 4.8 (i should be able to) everything in BIOS is on auto except for MCH core/Dram/Vcore and LLC and I only used 1.300 NB for 4.6ghz and 1.472v.
For a quick initial overclock that looks pretty good. I'm loving the temps and vcore compared to my Q9450. I'm sure with some more testing/tweaking you can raise that overclock and lower that vcore a little.
Any Vantage, 3D06 and SuperPI?

Here is another run of 3DM06 and Cinebench R10 at 4446mhz at 1.45v, this chip is a keeper. My new 24/7 test speed is 4400 at 1.4v cpu, 333strap, .680v CPU GTL 0/2, .680v CPU GTL 1/3, 1.50v PLL, 1.40vFSB Term, 1.40vNB,.680vNB GTL, 2.38vDDR, 1.20vSB, Load-line enabled, both spectrums disabled, both clock skews on auto and running in performance mode. I am very happy with the results so far and this Teamgroup simply cranks on this P5Q deluxe, it can do 600 4-4-4-12 no problem at 2.45v. For someone not ready to jump to a i7 build this is certainly the chip to get. I recommend the Gigabyte ud3p p45; look through this thread a little and even check out the ud3p thread on here. It really does wonders with the 9650. Amazing really, especially for $100 or so.:up:Quote:

Both my 9550 and 9650 did pretty good on my P5K Prem with just over 4G solid so it should be fine. 529th your Nb and Pll are too high drop the Pll to 1.5 and NB to around 1.4 for starters. What board?

Hi ViViD, this was a test run. Ram was at 1000mhz/1:1 and PL10. GTL's were on auto, I only set the Vcore/VTT/NB and CPU PLL and some of those were probably high, I was just seeing if my board would run 500FSB. I am currently testing 455x9, 1.35vcore, CPU GTL 0.630, PLL 1.54, FSB 1.32, NB 1.32, NBGTL 0.660, SB 1.2- This might not be stable, we will have to see.Quote:

Edit: This run passed 2hr small ftt and 2hr OCCT Ram test. Time for a vcore drop or a FSB increase for a higher clock. :)
Try raising your cpu gtls some and lower your vcore.

Are there any others that getting 4GHZ or higher with this cpu and 8GB of DDR2 RAM? If so, can you let me know what mobo and what ram?
Ive found that once you find a spot with your GTLs on auto where it fails prime in a little over a half hour or so you can usually stabilize by tweeking your GTLs. Thanks again. That is on a P5Q Deluxe and yes it is Pl7 though my fsb is 489x9 for 4400. This 9650 simply rocks and that is on its own water loop with a remoted PA 120.3 rad and fuzion block that is in 40 degree air so temps never get out of hand. I was actually surprised my self when I saw the temps after about two hours into it and I took the coretemp shot, just a slight increase in the Pll and FSB t at 1.4v and Prime95 ran no problem. The ram is Teamgroups new 1300 type running at 586 4-4-4-12 at 2.38v. This is the best Quad I have tested this month and should do over 4500.Quote:

My Q9650, P5Q3 Deluxe and G.Skill 4GBPI were on my porch last night when I got home from work. It was late so I haven't had a chance to play with anything yet. I did rip the heat spreaders off the G.Skills and they are Samsung HCF0 IC's.
I will post batch # and some quick results tonight on the P5Q3 Deluxe. I will get some results with the P5E3 Premium uploaded this weekend.

Very nice. I can stay stable at 4.05GHZ with my memory set to PL 7. I haven't tried it with PL 10. Perhaps I can hit 4.2 if I loosen up the memory a little.
Well you can run tighter tRD with X48 than P45 no doubt, but loosening tRD while working on CPU speed is never a bad idea.Quote:

Well I finally got the system together and Vista Ultimate x64 installed. Here are some shots with my first try at 4Ghz on the P5Q3 Deluxe. I have ALOT of tweaking and testing to do. Will post some more results shortly. This thing flys at 4Ghz on low volts.
