For Maximus 2.0.b.16h PLL ICS9LPRS918BKL (919BKL fine as wel i thought).
Testing max FSB of me E8500. 32M time is horrible, slow mem, no tweaks and apps running. FSB not too bad though :D

Will post results as soon as i get my loop back up and running
No. But i'm entitled to give my personal assumption on the subject.
I still believe the cpu is not the culprit to this clock degration but some other factors.
I had this problem with DC opteron where it ran stable for days at 2.9ghz until i decided to push it further but came to dead end so when I set everything back the way it was it became unstable even at stock speeds. I did everything by the book-clearing the cmos, taking out the battery but nothing. At first I thought it was the cpu so I ran it on my older epox939 board and the cpu ran just fine. I poped it back in my dfi and decided to reflash the same bios and boom the opty ran at 2.9ghz stable again.
Sorry but I just don't buy the fact 1.4v would degrade this cpu in just a few days (unless you try it without the hsf). 1-2 years maybe but not 3-4 days..It's impossible. Did someone mention their cpu's blew up or something? Well there you go. Faulty PSU is the biggest killer to all components.

I got the exact same batch as you loc.o
BUT in running it in Maximus Extreme, and i must admit, this board really sucks.. I got a feeling the cpu can do alot more, it craps out on about 500 in this board, but it boots without a glitch at 550, god damnit.. :)
what do you think, i got same batch as you, and my VID are as low as 1.0500
and 510 is a no go into windows, nomather what voltage on the important things... how was your experience with maximus?
regards.
This board was released more than 6 months ago, it will need a bios update to work with 45nm. You'll need a 65nm or older cpu to flash to latest bios before you can use it.
You may be lucky however, and the board might just come with support for 45nm. You should probably ask in the IP35 thread and see what folks say. Goodluck.
Havent really tried much but sounds familiair. With maximus bios 0401 and E6600 550FSB air and 590FSB with dice was fine. Now using bios 0907 and an E8400 (can do 590 air on Commando). Simular settings for Maximus as with E6600 tests but not much over 500fsb now either. Rather sure were both missing a setting here and there because board shouldnt have a problem with it i guess..
I may have the worst Q748 there is...
It needs 1.35v for 3.8ghz (which is the max stable oc). 4.00ghz is just out of the question regardless vcore...
Return it tomorrow ASAP! :p:
Tested on P5E. That's for ppl thinking that P35 is the problem. No Q748 is the problem... ;)
Im really sick of it , what can that setting be? its not an unknown fact that x38 cant do very well, the only board ive seen getting good FSB are the P5E3 WS Pro..
maybe i should try a P35 board? and noo, no commando, im using ddr3 now.. :)
think im gonna sell this one, cant take this anymore making me nuts..
regards.
I got 545fsb on my max formula; I'm pretty happy with that. I believe I can go higher with relaxed performance levels but max fsb is not what I'm after.
The best way to judge the strength of what I consider to be "shoddy" overclocks is to ran some 3D benches with them for the following reasons:
1. the guy who did 600fsb with the p5b-deluxe had pci-e at 1x (a common problem with that board)
2. the performance levels get very relaxed past 400 progressively towards 500 and beyond. My P5B-D (C2) had performance levels around 11 with only 450 fsb.
I am running 9x500 with performance level at 7; something's gotta give - loosen permance levels = gain max fsb. Also, bioses still need to mature for x38, and remember, the strength of x38 is not necessarily just high fsb, but a combination of high fsb + performance (relatively lower performance levels).
Even though x38 is more or less a tweaked-for-performance derivative of P35 chipset, wasn't it meant to be the replacement for 975x? Or is it P45?
What I'd like to see, because I've done it on my x38 board, is a P35 chipset doing 9x545fsb with performance level 7; and pci-e @ x16
ok Tbh, i have forgotten the Booster ehhh... ive allways had it on strong, and booster lvl 3 ... couse when i did have my conroe in , it didnt mather what i did it sucked nomather what, but ok, ill try to lower it a bit and check. ..bbl
thanks..
EDIT: didnt change anything at all. still as crappy :)
This 1s all the way 4m Bombay, India :D
Got my E8400 with the Batch #Q746A447 Dated 7th Jan '08, last nite.
I'm on AIR (TRU120E) & ve a ASUS Blitz Formula board with 4x1GB PC2 6400 Crucials & a 8800GT. Trying 2 get is 24/7 stable at 4.32 (1.4Vcore).
Managed 2 boot @ 530x9 but I'm sure I can do better.
Here's a simple SS on XP with Spi1M, under 10s score (my 1st under 10s score) @ 4698MHz which I feel is not bad at all on AIR !!!

4.7Ghz 1.64V

Can Boot at 5.0Ghz but cant get into windowa, mobo is the limiting factor, I think. I need 1.44V for 4.3. Seems like a good chip, but def not as good as weeks 45 and 46.

Sigh only good for 16hrs 15min on prime 95 and it crashed again core 0 runs at 1.304v just fine but core 1 always crashes even at my current 1.32V I guess its time to bump the voltage another notch or 2 for my 24/7 clocks, I can see its in reach now though. Can load windows and run 3dmark 06windows at 1.42V @ 4.6 but gets too hot w/ my Tuniq at only 1350rpm. will need to replace the rear fan in my P180 if I want to push it more /sigh
Not true m8.
Windows and most apps inc Orthos will always read your DEFAULT MULTI.
Thats why when you lower Multi and Raise FSB you get a mad high reading.
CPU-Z however will read Multi/FSB and CPU Speed correctly.
