I'd like to add that the X-Fi's got no issues with F8A as far as I can tell. It's been over 10+ reboots. The issue lies with BF2142...bah.

1.fix the D9 ram issue
2.Update the Jmicron BIOS in the 965P-DS3 board
3.when set Vcore lower than 1.2250v in DS4 Vcore jump to 1.57v after reboot
4.Update the Intel RAID bios ROM to version 6.1.0.1002

When i set corevoltage at 1.600v system wont boot ( E6700 week 27 ) , 1.580v is ok
U say set it on 1.625 , well thats the problem its jumps to 1.800v now ( need 1.625 , 1.650 , but that is not selectable )

DS3 board

be specific with the D9 issues.

the issue is that it wont run the ram over 950mhz stable the same ram will run easily over 1000mhz 4-4-4-12 but this mobo wont even do 950+ 4-4-4

although i agree about updating the bios for the jmicron, are there any issues ? hard drives not being seen ? misreported hard drive sizes ? if not,, if it aint broke done fix it. (they just fixed the PIO Mode issue a while ago they will just break it again!)

intel raid rom is only available on the DQ6 correct ? as the DS3 most certainly doesnt use the Intel anything its all jmicron.

Once you install the new 1.17 jmicron Raid drivers I no longer get slowdown with my raid, it would just be nice to have the latest Rom included as well.

I think ddr2 voltage is not enough while boot for high frequence.I can set it more high in windows after boot on same timing.I can set the frequence to 1000 mhz or little more with 4 4 4 12 timing (+0,50v seems in bios)if I use easy tune .,but not from bios before boot (Corsair 5400 ul)

what ?

adjust the voltage in the bios for what you need. easytune is a piece of crap
if you use a multimeter and check the voltage on the motherboard you will see that the ram is getting the voltage that you told it too.
the problem is these boards have massive no booting issues at higher overclocks it has nothing to do with the ram voltage.

1.fix the D9 memory issue
2.Update the Jmicron BIOS in the 965P-DS3 board
3.when set Vcore lower than 1.2250v in DS4 Vcore jump to 1.57v after reboot
4.Update the Intel RAID bios ROM to version 6.1.0.1002
5.when set Vcore in any option except normal C1E dosent work and EIST cant drop Vcore while idle
6.when set Vcore to 1.6v system wont boot in DS3

all above problems successfully reported to Gigabyte BIOS Engineering Team
if you find more please post it here to report

Lestat have you tried to up tha voltage to 2.1-2.2 and see if it 1000 does with CL4 ?

Now that I have watercooling I'd like to have the fan adjusting of the PWR-FAN fixed. This way I can get my PC more silent without the use of external fan controllers!! And of course the RAID firmwares!!

Sorry for being late and not more specific, 1. I ran my gkx/ghm at 999 4-4-4-15 2.1v and it seemed pretty stable but not 1:1

About the PSU, the quality of Huntkey is cosidered first class. So if you´re talking about peaks and reliability it is top notch. Or do you know something I don´t know?

Huntkey is solely a power unit manufacturer (i.e. also for things that having nothing to do with PC's. I have quite some experience with those PSU's and am very pleased with their performances and sound levels.

My ocz ram (ghm/gkx they don't wanna tell me... :sad: ) does it rated speeds/timings but not with 1:2 divider. So I can run 2.1gh with the ram doing pc8000 but I can't run 500x7 1:2 with it. Looking at my sig I do know it's a ram compatibility issue I recon, since I got geil sticks which do 522 benchable in the same setup. Also I thought that the ram being displayd as failure ment it was out off ddr2 specs, not that is was failing to deliver the +.Xv to the sticks.

yeah i've tried up to 2.4v

i did do 1050 @ 5-6-6-18 @ 2.1v but that was ONLY achievable using a 2:3 divider. that means set the FSB to default, then set the ram frq. to 800 and overclock from there.
if i tried any other ram divider it wouldnt work. but thats unacceptable. this D9 can do 1100mhz .at much less than that... damn DS3 anyways lol.
and whats even more screwed up... if you use 667... the system wont overclock hardly at all. that right there is an indication that the northbridge chipset latencies are totally wacko!

well .. new bios ? not this week atleast.

It shows a fail warning if you go above +0.325V

For me right now the most important update that needs to be done is updating the bios ROMs for the JMicron and Intel controllers.

I have long since emailed GB about this issue and given then detailed info on said updates.

Intel RAID bios ROM from version 6.0.0.1022 to version 6.1.0.1002, the Intel AHCI bios also needs to be updated from August 4th 2006 to the newer September 13th 2006.

JMicron from 1.06.53 to what i belive it the latest and offered by Asus - 1.06.56a, their may be an even later version.

why is that so important, i thought you wanted the fans working?

updated rom's usually have absolutely no effect. the only reason they usually update them, meaning Intel or jmicron updating the rom are for simple compatibility. new hard drives not being seen correctly, or something similar.
there has never been a real speed increase that i have ever seen from updated roms.
and if it ain't broke don't fix it.
personally i would rather have them not jack with anything they don't have to.

Anyone read about reports that a huge batch of these boards got shipped without the fan headers being soldered on the board? I saw 2 recent "reviews" on newegg and said the fan headers was not even on the board were they said they should be in manual.

Which boards are you talking about?...didn't read anything on Newegg in regards the DQ6.

Lestat, you answered your own question...and updated bios ROM adds and fixes features, also i firmly belive that GB should be keeping things CURRENT.

If Asus and Intel can update the bios ROM then why can't GB?..surely Asus updated for a reason, so why shouldn't GB?

I'm hoping an updated Intel AHCI and SATA RAID bios ROM will speed up the boot time, if you've experienced the snail paced AHCI bios you'll know what i am talking about.

What issues? there arent any issues, i dont hear people complaining about AHCI.
Slow boot times are caused, when AHCI is enabled, not by the rom, but by the simple fact that its AHCI, and the drivers, or the lack of any drivers being installed.
But AHCI by nature isnt any faster and in some cases, as you yourself have seen slow things down. its the nature of the beast.

i had no effect in windows with AHCI enabled.
but Linux.. that makes all the difference in the world.
Mandriva 2007 will only install with AHCI installed but boot times are super fact. as fast as Linux can be i mean.
There isnt any real reason to use AHCI

my next question is why are you using AHCI there is no effect in windows by using it, and in fact you end up having to use the AHCI/Raid drivers in order to make it work. which puts you right back into the boat of the crappy jmicron drivers and controller.
but you have the Intel controller too where we DS3 users do not, so i must assume that intel's AHCI drivers are better.

in fact on the AHCI speed subject, here is a snip-it i came across.

yes that would be nice but honestly unless your sub zero cooling you dont have the cooling power to keep it cool enough.
1.6v on these things creates an insane amount of heat. too much for any heatsink out there.
too much to run it safely i should say.
not ANY heatsink thats wrong to say but its way too much heat for 24/7 usage unless you have it sitting on a benching table in a very cool room.

Yes Lestat u are right when u say that 1.600v is enough with air/water but i find it silly that it jumps straith to 1.800v.
With my modded mach II i would give it 1.650v , with Dryice i give it 1.700v maybe 1.800v if the chip responds well to the voltage.

That list of fixes scares the sh1t out of me.

Improve 7950gx2 support IE: where you boot up and before you even get into windows you get a screen with lines and colors, and make it so you can cold boot without stalling at windows loading screen, or stalling and not even posting, and not beeping up, and make my crucial ballistix be able to boot stable above 825mhz, because thats just pathetic for the quality of this ram.

so you understand when i see people say "i run 1.6v on AIR." i say bullsh|t

you benchmarked,, you have your motherboard outside of the case sitting on the bench and you have the Airconditioning running and its very cold in the room.

1.6v hell even 1.5v with these chips creates an insane amount of heat. they get as hot as my old 955XE @ 4.5ghz very hot. too hot for air.

I just popped in a set of the Crucial Anniversary memory (supposed to be D9GMH) and I can't even get my system to boot at 400MHz!!!! The OCZ Plat Rev. 1 that I just pulled out of there was doing 450MHz 1:1 for 3150GHz... what a joke. I am pissed Gigabyte.... hurry up on the bios fix (if there really is going to be one) :stick:

and maybe you can tell us what voltages you are using.
and dont assume they are GMH you should really find out by asking in the Extreme Bandwidth section.

if your not using atleast 2.0-2.1v then you should be

Sorry for the quick over-reaction post.... I changed the timings to 5-5-5-15 and it booted fine at 800MHz.... I went ahead and then jumped it up to 450MHz 1:1 and I am running 3150Mhz again as I type... albeit with those loose timings.

My voltage was always 2.1v - 2.2v... My OCZ was 2.1v so I initially left it at that... I think that when you change your memory it might be best to 'Load optimized defaults' in bios instead of thinking that you can just pop them in and the DS3 will just adapt to the new memory... Granted, I never did load defaults but from the 7-8 restarts I did trying different speeds the DS3 eventually liked my 450MHz settings with the Crucial Anniversary...

What board would you recommend? I think I can return my DS3 but I have to act fast... I've had it for 35 days on a 30 day return policy.... Please let me know!

Well I'm skipping p965 based boards and getting the Asus P5W DH Deluxe.

Dabs gave me a full refund on the DS3

RD600 or C55 but those arent out yet.

but dont be a quitter, stick with the DS3 its a good board. the D9 fix has been implemented and a new bios will be here next week.

Gigabyte didnt have a fix until now, nor did they EVER claim there was a fix nor did they ever imply there was a fix.

They have had meetings with OCZ, Corsair, and GSkill to find a resolution to the issue and now they have it.

gskill was also working on a new SPD for the D9 ram also to address the DS3 not working. but i think that fell thru. It's now been put in the hands of gigabyte to fix it and they have the fix.

so relax.. let them fix it, and dont rush it, rushing them is going to accomplish nothing.

we should have a new bios next week.

I didnt mean they said they had a fix, but considering its been probably the most well known problem since the 1st BIOS release, I would have assumed some sense of urgency would apply.

Especially considering it seems to only effect Gigabyte boards.

Since we're discussing the Gigabyte p965 bios features,
there's one I can't seem to find on the DQ6 which really
should be there and that is the option to restore power to
last state. That is, when the power to the machine is
lost, when reestablished, the machine remains in an
off-state which isn't at all desirable for a web server.

Does anyone have any luck starting their rig with the power on options? I don't have a "power" button on the keyboard, but I do have a mouse. Setting it to "double click" doesn't do anything either...maybe I'm using the wrong button? (right click?)

that feature is there it gives you the options for stay off, last state, or 1 other.

guys I was on DS4 F6 official with no problem when restart system, but I flash to DS4 F7b, when I do restart in windows system become restart and monitor become off but it cant boot (monitor stay off) I have to press reset key on case, I flash back to F6 official or even F5 official but problem not solved! what I should do? when your flashing you should always use the clear dmi and PnP option.

it clears out old system info held within the bios.

its more important to use if you change hardware or ther eis a major change in the bios.
you dont have to use it but its good practice to use it anyways.

Btw...i booted into Windows at 438x8=3.5Ghz, but she crashed right away...wonder how much voltage it'll take to be stable?

boot on FSB490 with:
* 0.2V-0.15V+ fsb

not sure why you guys use easytune that program is just nasty

try SetFSB965 you can download it here, or i believe ggogle will find it.
it doesnt do anything more than FSB and pci-e
so set voltages int he bios and use that.
i have found easytune to be just horribly unreliable.

Thats true, Easytunes is probably worst program ever made for overclocking...but it still does the Job... i will try SetFSB965 next time I bench :D

Huh? That is hardly beating it. Like every site says 1-3% diffrence is nothing.

well to play devils advocate 3% = 120 MHZ if your at 4GHz, it means a full 1/2 second off a super pi 1M 15sec score, it means 450points on a 3dmark base of 15000... etc. This is XS For 1-3% I have seen guys ruin $1000 CPU's and buy many hundreds of dollars worth of phase cooling :)

I use MCH + 0.15v, FSB 0.1v, Vcore 1.4250v memory 2.0v 5-5-5-12
remember before login to windows use Memtest86+ to find memory errors

It would be nice to see the d9 memory issue cleared up since I can't believe how cheap e6300s are going for now. Fry's has the retail e6300 plus an ECS mobo for $170. I might be able to skip the e6400 if this memory issue gets cleared up.

Im not sure if this is cold boot problem, but somtimes if my computer has been turned off, and I try to power it on, then it just turns on (lights turn on) but at the same time it just turnd off. And then I need to turn my power cord off and reset my powercords cable. It does this about 50% at the time. When I had all stoock speeds, it didnt do this.

Got my DS3, e6300 and Crucial Anniversary (D9GMH) running at 455MHz 1:1 right now... I think I have Turbo set, 103 PCIE, +2v on mch, +1v fsb, 1.3875v cpu

Haven't played around with any other settings

guys I have a quick question. I am testing my mobo's fsb limit and changed settings to 6x485 (2910mhz) in bios and booted into windows.

Now, cpu-z, clockgen, and super-pi indicates that I am runnning at 6x485 (which is expected), however core temp,orthos, and everest showing that I am running at 8x485??

Confused - is this normal - and c1 (whatever it is) and eist functions are disabled:

yeah that is totally normal guy dont worry about it. its just an error in the way it reads your system.

1.67v on air?? BULLSH|T ! ! ! ! ! NO WAY! sorry but unless you dont care that your temp. is exceeding the natural death point for silicone, then thats not even remotely possible.
you have to be idling at over 70c and 100% load has to be around 90c.

all your gunna do is kill your chip if you havent already damaged it.

The chip is o.k!
It wasn't 24\7 oc, it was just for fun.
I didn't blend the cpu, I only took a Validation.
for 24\7 my chip is running on 3200mhz@1.3250V.
And it is on air! :slapass:

The audio in is really :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up on this board, if you use microphone or anythinf else input device, there is always some electronic type of "srrrrr" sound at the backround. And the maxium audio out volume is really quiet. Next I buy Sound Blaster X-Fi soundcard, and Im thinking which one should I choose XtremeAudio, XtremeMusic X-Fi or XtremeGamer? Mostly I listen music but I also play games, so I think XtremeGamer is better choise than XtremeMusic? And I really hope that they have been fixed that X-Fi issue, or have they? If not then I throw this :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty motherboard to hell and buy Asus P5B.

Personally I don't think anyone should claim an OC unless they can run 8 hours of Orthos without any issues.
