Try using the latest RBE 1.28 to unlock the shaders of ur default bios.
It's possible, give it a try. Make sure you can do a blind flash or use another card to flash back in case it does not work out, though.
And you could just try unlocking shaders of your own BIOS. Why don't you try that?
ok, and anybody know a RBE 1.28 user manual to unlock the shaders of my bios ???
A little update on my HD6950 flashed to HD6970 via Bios.
SB 2600K cooled by my Blue Cascade @-85c , 5500Mhz.
HD6950 cooled by water chiller @-21c , 1.42v. via smart doctor for 1100/1547Mhz.
Ranked # 36 in the world , single card in between many many 580s under LN2 :D , this card its becoming a beast.

LN2 next week to find the max clocks on this card , and trying for WR..
Outstanding!
Have you done any volt-modding? I recently stumbled upon a decent looking guide. Might net you 100 extra MHz. :yepp: Could give it a try.
That guide is good, however makes me wonder if my sample of 6970 will make more than does currently,1060 on 1.3V,stock cooling and 20+ ambient,no modifications :D
Btw, about the voltages from the guide...
Quote:
VDDC: GPU Voltage
MVDDC: Memory Core Logic Voltage
MVDDQ: Memory Voltage supplied to the output buffers of the video card memory.
Seems correct to me.Quote:
(correct me if I’m wrong) VDDCI is the I/O bus voltage (between memory and GPU core) and comes from the PCI-Express slot.
Apparently the guide is aiming for
These are the defaults (vGPU is quite obvious, though).Quote:
1733 mV VDDC, 1725 mV MVDD, 1965 mV MVDDQ, and 1333 mV VDDCI
1.73 vGPU is quite nuts, lol. +0.3V MVVDQ is also tons, no? At least for anything remotely close to a daily rig... +0.05V vDDR seems fine. +0.078V VDDCI seems reasonable, too.Quote:
Under 3D load, on our Radeon HD 6970 sample, the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) VDDC measured 1252 mV. The GDDR5 MVDD measured 1674 mV, and MVDDQ measured 1667 mV. VDDCI measured 1255 mV. All measurements made were referenced to the PCIe input power connector ground.
Hope you're not talking about the mods. Cause they work for both cards. :)
Or have you done any of these or similar ones already?
Guys i just purchased and recieved my second HD6950 and it succesfully unlocked fine and dandy :) to HD6970, but theres a problem when i use smart doctor to apply voltages for both cards running Crossfire it wont stick to both cards :( , it will kick in for the first card but not for the second. How do you guys succesfully apply voltages for both VGAs in crossfire ? Anyone has succesfully has and if yes how or what software you used ? Smart Doctor or Afterburner ? Any guidance and help will be really apreciate it , Thank you in advanced.
Angelo.
Hey guys, im thinking about getting a 6950 and have been doing alot of reading about the 6950 flash to 6970. Which brands/manufactures continue to produce the batch of 6950's that is still flashable? I want to make sure that I can flash my card. Thanks!
If I have the card in my hand, how do I tell if the card has a reference PCB? Are there some features on the card that indicates that it is indeed the reference board? Is it supposed to be a certain color?
The AMD stamp by the pcie connector is usually a giveaway. +Reference cooler is not often used on custom pcb cards.

Thanks for your reply! Even if it doesnt use the reference board, would I still be able to use the flash the BIOS to the 6970?
Do most 6950s that are flashed to stock 6970 handle the increases without any increase in voltage?
The two i have flashed both could not accept full 6970 bios and had to use w1zards 6950 bios unlock. with no voltage changes at all both cards can hit 880 / 1375, but i found they dont like much beyond that. the problem is, the more you turn up the voltage the more they crash. using powertune to min / medium / max doesn't seem to help.
apart from that they run great at 880 / 1400 24/7.
edit: temps never got over 65C even in extended benchmarking or gaming.
Just got MSI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127575
Testing:D
Thanks TN, when you say "could not accept", do you mean they ran eratic or you could not actually flash to a 6970 bios.
So is there a difference with the 50 and 70 power circuit?
Whats the best method to take advantage of the lower clocked 6950, flash to unlock then indepentantly increase clocks? All i want is 6970 specs, should i just fork out for the 6970?
my 6950 flashed fine to 6970 bios and runs 24/7 at 1000core 1500mem at 1.3v..maybe more in the core clock but havent tried over 1000 yet just enjoying it :) before i could bench 950core at stock volts however wouldnt last in black ops for more then 15-20 mins.
i might give 1050 a go and see if i can push out a vantage or something
