You dont buy a Maximus/Rampage to leave it at stock....sorry but thats not acceptable... Its not overclocking isnt guaranteed, its that everyone has hit that same 440mhz FSB barrier, with the exception of a few that their chips cooperated.

I tell ya whats really funny is the ASUS P5E-VM HDMI OC's way above the P5E @ $100.00 less.
Divider is at 333/667. 400/800 results in same DDR freq but is not stable. Higher settings that result in 1066ish wont boot and need a cmos reset eventho the memory is 1066 memory.
Memory is set at 5-5-5-5-15 2.2v wich is the default settings and voltage it is specified @1066.
NB i had up to 1.6v but it doesn`t help.
Edit: The CPU has a C1 stepping. Bad news for me i guess?
Don`t get me wrong. 3.5 stable ain`t bad at all but i`d hate to run it at anything less then the maximum possible.
My Maximus booted fine with the Qx9650, E8300, E8400... and a QX9770 C1 stepping, now since monday it is on 1201 bios and it works fine here, no need to rant in each thread ya Anti Asus attitude , it doesn't help the dude with problems at all...
X38 is pretty hard to setup compared to P35 at high FSB, 4dimms and co only make it worse... and many users get lost in the settings and just up voltages...Bios updates will improve stuff...
It's Intel pulling our leg here with all these new demands, not the mobo manufacturers... the latter having a hard time to keep up with their revisions and bios programming...
I'm moving on to P45 once it pops up...
When is P45 expected ?

Anyone else having trouble witht he RAM dividers? Basically 333/667 is the only one working as soon as i overclock the FSB. 400/800 is 1:1 too but not stable. All the others simply result in a needed cmos reset wich is kinda strange considering my memory could make at least 1066 and is set with the according timings and voltage.
Edit: got 437x8 primestable.
Anything above that is a no go (450 boots but freezes when i prime small FFTs after just 2 minutes) no matter how excessive voltage i feed. This is nuts. I am 100% sure the crappy X38 board is holding me back.
Any chance I'd get better results than ~3.4GHz with Q9450?
Solid boards, but the fact that they were not ready for 45nm, and clearly have a limitation in BIOS with overclocking (usually 440mhz FSB cap) which was similar to the 860mhz ATI HD3870 Core clock problem, I would have to say its a BIOS issue, or maybe the board physically cannot OC it more.
I wonder how P45 will do, but I probably wont be looking at P45 unless there are a few 16x/16x PCIE2.0 boards.

I simply don't understand why my X3350 won't run on both my UT-P35.
I hope that a future bios release will resolve the problem.

It's a Maximus Formula and my previous CPU - Q6600 G0 - was running ~475 stable everyday - above 3800MHz -, with ~1.5V NB, memory at ~1100MHz.
FYI: recently this was my everyday configuration (I use water) until I sold my G6600.

Well, I've running my QX9650 at 10x400mhz until recently. I've gone through total six Q9450 I got from a local Fry's. They were all from the same batch with the same pack date, and they couldn't run at 450mhz and up FSB.
Then QX9650 surprised me by running 2 hours of OCCT rock solid at 8.5x450mhz. I had to give NB 1.50V though.
I would like to state that I'm new to overclocking so, please bare with me.
I'm currently having some slight trouble with my overclock. Before I state my problem, I would like to request some specific information from you fellow overclockers. I would like to know all your voltage settings, the exact number of your FSB and multiplier, and your motherboard(please state model number and chispet).
Currently I'm having freezing(yes, my pc actually froze, last time I had a freezing problem was from my AMD Athlon XP 2600+, my pc never froze when I overclocked my X6800 to 3.6) problems with my computer when I'm at full load(by prime95). I'm guessing this is because of an unstable overclock, I'm not too sure; it would be nice if someone can tell me if the overclock is causing the problem. It actually froze on me once when I was playing Counter Strike Source(which only uses 40% of my cpu max) for more than half an hour and playing a video for about a minute and half.. Every other time was from Prime95.
My overclock set up is 440 x 8 at cpu voltage 1.45v(BIOS), 1.416-1.424(CPU-Z, it flickers between those "two" number randomly), and around 1.375(I think that's the exact number) full load(CPU-Z). Every other voltage setting is currently at auto. I would also like to mention that this setup survived prime95 for a little over an hour, but after that test, it can't survive more than a few minute of stress testing from prime95.
I also have some questions on my temperature, just want to make sure if it's too hot or not and which temperature reading is correct. I've used three different programs to detect my temperature and all three displayed different temperature from one another. Those three programs are coretemp, realtemp, and speedfan. The readings I'm about to give are all idle temperatures if you want to know the load temperature, just add 10-18c to the temperatures there. By the way, these are the latest version of the programs. Here are my readings:

core 0: 33c core 1: 36c core 2: 39c core 3: 39c
Speedfan
core 0: 38c core 1: 41c core 2: 44c core 3: 44c
Coretemp
core 0: 43c core 1: 46c core 2: 49c core 3: 49c
The TJ max for all of them are 105c except for speedfan since it doesn't list the TJ max. If you look at the numbers carefully, from core 0 and onward, the temperatures increase by 5 except for core 2 and 3. Also, between the three reading, there's a 5 degree difference. So, which one has the correct reading? Does my processor have proper temperature ?And, is it considered cool? Also, it would be nice if someone can tell me what exactly is TJ max.
I would also like to know a list of program that can detect voltage settings.

It "seems" like I've fixed the problem now. I think the cause of the freezing problem was the ram. I have to manually set the timing, frequency, and the voltage.
I'm going to try lowering the cpu voltage at the moment. Once I hit the lowest voltage I can go, I'll post some screenshots.
Forgot mention that I'm also hitting the fsb wall at 440FSB. I can't post at all on 450FSB. I guess I can probably squeeze in one or two more FSB, but no point since I probably won't notice the performance gain.
