well hey, ill just experiment on this one ;) maybe post a few picks and hopefully get stickied or something like that to show that you should or should not buy it

Sounds good for me:)... Btw what PSU do you have?
Oh crap, I think the extension thing its not going to work, i've checked in Frozen CPU and all the things I need its worth $100+ only the extensions w/o the shipping :( now with the shipping to my country that its gonna be like a lot more and for me thats too much money:down:. I mean i will pay that for the MDPC-X sleeve ;) but for some cable extensions? Any other idea or other place where the extensions dont go that high? I was thinking of buying the connectors and take the cables from the old generic PSU i have all around my house.. will that work?
Thanks in advance!!!:up::up::up:
look for the nzxt pre-sleeved?
Just make your own. Order a spool of 20gauge (or w/e is used) wire, and crimpers (I think their $15-20) is the expensive parts. You can get the pins to crimp on (along with the crimper, I think you get some in a kit when you buy the crimper) from NILS, and get the 6/8/24-pin connectors from frozencpu or whereever
http://en.mdpc-x.com/mdpc-crimping/m...mping-tool.htm
http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l1/g51/...ml?id=Cus4uYPK
Thanks, i'm gonna look for the 20 gauge wire locally and order the conectors, that way if i have spare (mostly I will) i can make extensions for my other computers as well or save them for another experiment :D
Use 18 or 16 AWG, anything less (ie bigger number) is too thin IMO.
I'd check to see what gauge they are, I'm guessing 18/20/22 range
And you can get cheaper cimpers, but as with all of nils products, they're the best haha
Yea i was actually thinking of buying the crimper along with the sleeve :D. As for the wire i'll get a quote locally, most likely thats the way i'm gonna take to make sure I dont void my PSU warranty because here the 1000HX its close to the $400 USD :ROTF:
18AWG for the usual ATX connectors (20/24 pin power, pciE, 4 pin for CPU, 8pin for CPU, etc), molex and sata power cables too
26AWG for 3-pin fans
Thanks I will take that in mind!
Try chilledpc.co.uk for extensions...they are cheaper and shipping is way way way cheaper than ppcs or any of the other US based stores. I got mine from there...good quality stuff and great service.
Hi! I have a question regarding sleeving somewhat... but it's more related to electric. I was sleeving my PSU, specifically the 8-pin power for the CPU. I removed the old heatshrink, pulled up the sleeve and marked each cable with masking tape so as to preserve the original order. Long story short, I think I might have swapped two of the 12V's, and maybe two of the grounds (a 12V for another 12V, ground for another ground mind you!) Does it really matter?
Thanks a bunch

Awesome guide.
Hi everybody,
I've seen some very neat things on this thread. I'm really impressed.
I'm having a problem. I'm trying to build a system that needs something sturdier then the regular heat shrink tubes or boots to prevent my split cabels or pigtails from tearing the cable they come out of. I've seen this 'cable thing' on many prof audio breakaway cables, that would be perfect. To show you what I'm talking about, I provided a picture. The thing I need is the yellow plastic thing on the cable below.
Does anybody know what it is called, because I looked for it everywhere on the internet without succes. Has anybody used it or does one of you know where I can order them? I really would appreciate if anyone could help me.

UPDATE:
I found the part I was looking for. It is called a strain relief boot or a connector boot. It's usually used on pro BNC cables, but it suits other types as well. You can find it as the 'TecNec RG59 Cable Boot' or 'Canare Connector Boot CB04'.
Hope some of you mind find use for it.
Yipeeeee the First MDPC-X Sleever from Costa Rica XD!!! Awesome Nils!! I would take pictures... if I had a camera:(
Oh wow man very nice guide. Thanks a lot.
eoblack, stunning pictures!
awsome pictures eoblack!
put some pitures up in here of your rig! cant wait to see that sleeving work in your system!
I recall there being problem with less fine threaded sleeves, that original wire color shines through. Some solved it first puting insulating tape on top of wire, some replaced wires altogether. First seems unneccessary increasing thickness of wires, 2nd adds too much extra work.
So here comes my idea - how about "painting" wires before sleeving? It should be simplier to spray on wire, then do anything else. What do you guys think?
Problem comes - what paint would be ellastic enough to stick on wires and not chip off when wire is bent? Any comments? Some paint that partialy gets absorbed by wire isolating plastic layer?
Yup, that'd be vinyl paint. I've seen it used by sevaral people, and it gives an extremely clean look because with sleeving, the wires look a lot thicker. With paint, the thickness remains about the same. I'll try to dig up some pictures.
edit: found it.

Okay guys, I'm deciding if I should remove the capacitor or not for the custom sleeving. The Silverstone ST-75p (750 Watt) power supply has these 2200uf capacitors on the cables. I found out what they are used for:It looks like it doesn't alter the voltage so removing the capacitor to sleeve the wires should still provide the necessary voltage to the video card (XFX 5870). I'm looking for help in deciding if I should go without the capacitor for the individual sleeving. Any thoughts?Quote:
To reduce electrical whine/buzz associated with high performance graphics card’s dynamic loading changes, 2200uF capacitors are attached to PCI-E connectors. This design also helps to maintain better voltage stability and improve ripple & noise performance.
Although it probably wouldn't hurt the card of performance, I would recommend against it, simply because it was put there for a reason, namely the ones you stated. I'd consider those valid reasons to keep the capacitator attached, but of course in the end, it's all up to you ;).
no dont do that. most people move the capacitor further down the wire closer to the psu instead of the connector this way its not visible and still keeps the signal right. if you remove that you are liable to have noisy signal/ instability/ less or more power than is needed/safe
Cut it away - why? because the PSUs AND GPUs of today stabilize their voltage on their own extremely good.
There are many caps in the PCU and after only 50cm an additional one isn't necessary with such good hardware...
Moving it down to the PSU? 100% senseless ;)
And Alexandr0s, I don't want to attack you but something like speed limits are also "put there for a reason" :D
You also can take new cables instead of doing the dirty and "not 100% perfect" work of painting each wire:

http://img13.abload.de/img/innens14o1yz.jpg
Interesting responses. Xien16, You would remove the capacitor? I'm leaning toward that for the fact that as well as the card has it's own voltage regulators and I would assume it wouldn't be necessary. I figured it was for older graphic cards and not the new ones that are out on the market. I guess I can try to design two cables. The capacitor is on one of the yellows and one of the blacks. While the other 2 yellow are not connected. I find it odd how only one of the wires is connected to the cap. Seems like it wouldn't really be efficent the way it's connected.
If one or two or all does not mind - they are connected on the graphic card PCB ;)
But as I said before:
Technology is so good today that this caps are not necessary...
Just think about the the PSUs without any of these caps (under 7-800W) that can also power these cards.
If you want to know it in detail:
A capacitor can save energy (when the voltage goes up) and can give this energy away again (when voltage goes down)
A too weak PSU that runs at 11V couldn't get 12V through these caps. In this case you need another PSU.
Only if there is a short extreme peak it helps a little bit to hold the voltage at the same level.
But there still are enaugh caps in the PSU to manage the biggest GPU.
That's what I figured as well. I figured it was for the older cards out there. With the latest digital power converters on these cards, I figured they would easily handle any spikes or dips...
@ alexander0S aint that the regular psu of corsair? instead of that vynil painting?
i use tape before sleeving and it rocks! its a bit work but thats ok for me!
awsome pix Xien
i just replaced mine, custom make it.

I know the question has been asked but I can't find it so here it goes. I have a xfx 650w modular average length (a bit shorter than the corsair 650tx) I want to single sleave the 24pin + 8 pin + 2 x pci-e + 4 fan + HDA + 2 sata and bundle sleeve the 4 wire of the front panel connector. What length of sleeve should I expect.
I guessed one family pack + 5 meter sata sleeve + .70sata heat shrink + 10meter of another coolor + 1m of heat shrink.
Too much, not enough ?
Would be cool to add an approximate length recquired for each connector or at least a average system on the first post
[EDIT] Measured my corsair 650tx + fan and front panel cable and arrived at around 40m in case someone is interested
Any of you (IN THE UNITED STATES)have some left over MDPC-X green SATA sleeve. I need 2.5m and about 6 in of green heatshrink to go with it. Much too small an order to place with Nils. Got some PayPal for you to ship to 33033.
PM ME! thanks.
I think ive pretty much gone through the whole of this thread and some of the pictures are amazing, inspired me to sleeve my cables when I start building my own computer
Does anyone knows how to get the sleeves in between different molex connectors from the PSU? Do I need to cut the molex connectors and crimp them again or is there a way to sleeve without having to cut anything?
I'm having some problems removing the sata plugs from a set of HX1000 wires. I don't want to break the connectors, but I can't get them apart. Tips?
Your watermark is ruining the images.
Very good work Paul!

Crysis, you should take orders for your work. It's simply stunning... I know I would pay for your craftsmanship...
^^ exactly what he said, i already PMed Crysis hehe i just need to get more sleeving in and etc :)
lol, let us know what he says! Hehehe
Actually I do sell custom made extension cables on another forum. All the pictures posted were extensions I've done for customers. :) If anyone's interested, PM me for pricing info, etc.

:)
I like the look of individual sleeving, and just upgraded from an antec p180 to a raven 2. I want it to look good in the window and my antec EA650 just wont allow that (no sleeving other than 24pin atx)I know I'll mess up doing it myself, so do you guys know where I could get something like the NZXT 10" extension for all my power cables. Or better yet (and I've been googling my A$$ off trying to find it) a psu that comes pre-individually-sleeved?
Wow martin astonishing work there, where you got those light blue heatshrink ?
Sleev Art:up:
snoro, propably here: MDPC-X International
Thanks for the kind words, everyone. :) Snoro: I get ALL my sleeve and heatshrink from Nils at MDPC-X.com. Don't waste your time with cheap made-in-china stuff. ;)
yah i know, its just that i am very tired and i thought those were some grand bleu heatshrink and in my head, it went: WTF! Where in the hell did he got some grand bleu heatshrink, never seen some at mudermod or mdpc-x.
Where did you see this?
Do you mean the "normal" blue ones?
Crys1s_Gam3r, kwscore - amazing sleeving, hats off!!!
I just wish my wife did not see this, until now she thought my sleeving was nice lol
Thanks all :)
I always love it when people ask me to reveal my "secret technique." I can't stress enough that, while technique is certainly key, practice and patience are so much more important. My advice to you is to always experiment, and above all have fun doing it. :) Trust me, if you don't love your work you'll never be happy with it.
If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. It is your system, after all. :)
@luke997 Thanks, I’m glad you like it.:)
MDPC-X gray FTW!

Crys1s_Gam3r one question, sleevs this here:http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=26722 it has the same quality that you use on your sleev?
i think like 70% of the products in the world are from China LOL im j/k.. Hey its great stuff and thats all that matters !!
Crys1s_Gam3r, your work is stunning and so are your photographs. Amazing work. =)
It doesn't matter if the materials are from China or Germany because the quality of Nils Sleeving it's Obviously 5 times better than other Sleeving that some Online Store provide.
Crys1s_Gam3r I really enjoy your photography skills applied to Sleeving art ^^ Keep on making more pics, I have an exclusive folder for Sleeving pics :D
It doesn't matter - but Nils's sleeves are from germany ;)

Did you guys know that eoblack shows your pictures in his shop?
Id like to say, both the atx pin remover and molex pin remover from MDPC-X are awesome at removing pins. I have used multiple tools from other sites and staples and the MDPC-X tools are by far the best.
Fearing the worst based off my experience with other pin removers I ordered 3 of the ATX ones. Well I can tell already that these suckers are going to last through a number of builds, they are perfect!

This thread is like wire pron! I couldn't stop!!
I looked at every page and just couldn't stand it, I had to get some of that sweet sleeving from Nils at MDPC-X.com....Oh baby!!
Thanks all :)

I should mention that every one of my images/photos are copyrighted with all rights reserved. I alone have the exclusive rights to distribute them. It's unfortunate that I should even have to say this, but it has come to my attention that a certain someone who browses this forum has been "plucking" photos from this thread and displaying them in his commercial shop without credit to the original author.
I see that you photos are even better with the L lens Martin! :)
Sorry to hear about your copyright problems. Maybe you should do something similar to what Aaron does and have a disclaimer that you can copy/paste under your images?
Oh man, this thread is a gold mine of sleeving.
If I ever attempt to build a computer then I'll deffinately be getting some of that sleeving.
Also love the pictures everyones posted there amazing. (What camera do you all use?)
Also that does not matter ;)
A compact cam where you can adjust most things manuall (150-200€) is enough to get extremely good pictures :)
