a 120mm will definetely not clip on, what size fan are those clips for?
http://www.techpowerup.com/img/08-04-08/LT-X48_full.jpg
I have a 92mm on mine and have it held on with a couple rubber bands. I think an 80mm would fit perfectly but all the ones I have are loud as hell. Thickness depends on how much room you have. I moved my GPU to the second slot so thickness wasn't an issue for me.

arghhhh this mobo is driving me nuts.. i can go into the bios and set everything for a nice 4.012 oc on my e8500 exit and save boot to windows and passs orthis, prime etc.. runs perfect. if i shut the damn thing down and start cold it simply doesnt boot and throws a c1 error i have to reset the bios and start over then exit and save ... right into windows (im typing from it now with the 4.012 oc just fine with orthos running etc) but i shut it down will not re-start.. what the heck is going on there???
also the e8500 is set at 1.218v in the bios at 422fsb 9.5 multi.. if i go even 1 step higher with cpu voltage will not restart.. same goes for the nb right now its at 1.30 (was required at least here for orthos to be stable for some reason anything lower it was unstable) same thing if i go one step higher .. no boot / c1 i have to clear cmos and start over.. sb is at default and if i step that any higher at all no boot again.. ram is at 2.12 (since it was undervolting just a bit i used 2.12 to get closest to the recc 2.1v) timings on the ram are 5-5-5-15-52 pl 8....right now i tried gtl's at default would not pass orthos im trying them at 62 right now passes fine..ram strap is 333-800 right now same thing there anything else (even lower or higher) no boot
what should i be looking at am i missing anything?? bios is the newest released one from a week or two ago
someone help.. argghhhhhh this overclock shown runs perfect and passes everything but it refuses to boot unless im exiting the bios then its fine
^^^ nope didnt help man. went to the bios you said i can boot into windows at 500 @ 8,5 but fails orthos instantly. problem imo is if i set the cpu vid to 1.21x it boot right up... if i set it to even 1.225 or higher fails to boot and i get c1 and no boot... now i can set the northbridge as high it seems as i want i had it set to 1.40 when i booted into windows. didnt go any higher on it though because i think the cpu needs more voltage and i cant seem to give it more. i tried setting the gtl's to the recc range by many member here of 59-65 didnt help..
question i have.. why is my add vid blocked out? i cant select any add vid at all they are all red in the choices menu and if i pick one it just defaults back to auto. i can not even disable that feature it just quickly snaps back to enabled... could this be my issue?? how do i enable this to select a add vid option? it seems i can only even attempt to select them if i set the cpu vid to 1.2 if i leave it on auto or anything below 1.2 the cursor skips right over the option??
so can this possible be another bad mobo or cpu again?? im using a totally different psu and tried one stick and 2 sticks of ram tried some regular samsung sticks i had took one video card out of the crossfire setup.. disabled the jmicron and just about everything else onboard i could nothing seems to help.. at least this e8500 boots up and will pass orthos at stock speeds the last one would not pass any test even at stock speeds on this mobo
Does somebody know how much the maximum NB core voltage is?
Intel says 1.375.
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1623/mchxh7.th.jpg
Is that really correct:D?
Yeah but my UT with a HR05SLI/IFX and a 120mm on top does like 43degrees in full load at 1.555.
Huh?
The table is what Jimmy from DFI did with his DMM. Originally, he swore blind that the board defaults to 67% for both when the GTL Ref is set to disabled - Apparently this is not the case.
There are a few errors in the tables, but they have been helpful for a lot of people so far abd the thing to remember is that they are meant only as a ballpark set of figures to get you started. If you want accurate GTL Ref values for your setup, you need to measure them yourself.
yes tried that tried 108+ all options are red and not able to be picked???? how do i fix this? floppy connectors are hooked up also
someone help... is there a way to unlock this or is it supposed to red like that?
also any setting over 1.22 causes reboot then shutdown and then i have to clear cmos and start over?? this is my third x48 dfi.. this was brand new from rma.. im frustrated. last time i thought it was the cpu but i guess it may not have been after all..
okay so newest result.. i pulled the battery reset everything let sit...
now for whatever reason i can use special add vid?? it works perfect... guess something funky was happening in the bios not sure.. anyway so far this is orthos stable going to run prime next.
anything higher fsb wise or voltage wise though it boots to windows fine and things seem to run ok but fails orthos in like 8-30 seconds.
this (below see pic) will cold boot now for me. so it seems to be working perfect.. can someone help me maybe squeeze a bit more out of it?? ill post up the bios template so maybe someone can help. temps are fine so far (60deg or so under full 100% after 1.5 hours orthos) and sy 4.28x windows boots fine but orthos failed in around 8-9 seconds... and temps were bordering on to hot but not terrible right around 70-72 under 100% cpu at 4.28x, so maybe i can get it stable there or close to it??? any help would be much appreciated. this has taken me so long to get it running perfect at what it is. thanks
sorry one more question... what is the difference between being able to simply add cpu vid or having to use the add feature?? if i turn off the add feature i simply can not add anything over 1.21xx in the bios or it refuses to boot..with the special add i can seemingly add as much as i want and it will boot fine??? is it okay to use that instead?? or is it less stable that way?? thanks again
verry weird board you got there maybe time for another rma ask praz
but that cpu is nice i think you can go 500x9 1.4v:p:
so is the method of using the special vid just as good as the normal way?? or should i rma this mobo it works fine with a q6600 and a e2180? but so far afte 2 e8500's and a e8400 i cant go over the 1.21xx volt settings without using the special vid?? so is it the 45nm or a bad mobo?? i have now at 1.26 at the same overclock and stable with prime and orthos.. so yeah this sems to be a really nice cpu and temps are now just about 58-61 with 1.26 @ 4.012.
one of the temp sensors reads 10deg higher than the other though now till they both get to mid 50's then they are pretty similar?? ive tried 2 heatsinks with the same results and checked the heat spreader with a razor and its pretty flat?? so do you think bad sensor on one core??
the default cpu PLL voltage is 1.51v. the next notch is 1.64v
is it kinda high?
i intend to run 24/7. running cpu PLL at 1.64v and NB volt 1.5v to 1.6v
is it ok?
This was posted a bit back by pnot if it helps.
http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...tvoltsenh7.jpg
Thanks wilson but is this for the 45nm or for the 65nm? The 1.5vcore for 45nms is kinda like dangerous :D.
im gettin hardcore shuttering and slitches all 4 seconds since 714 bios on my LT x48.
i really dont know what i can do anymore. most new bios settings hurt me...
what can cause this slitches?
i had the same i went back to the 604 one and it is running much better now
no one has answered me yet on the special add vid.. is it okay to have to use that instead of the normal way of setting the vid? the only way for some reason to boot this mobo is to use the special add vid the other way it refuses to boot?? is there and disadvantage to it that way? seems to work fine with the add vid but i want to be sure
and am i correct i have to have the special vid limit set to disabled? if i set it to enabled it does not add any voltage at all. even after a reboot it stays to whatever i set the actual vid for with the special vid enabled and set if you understand what i mean..
the jmicron sata ports make my system unstable also btw. for my oc i have now to remain stable they have to be disconnected when i reconnect them i can not pass prime or orthos at what im set for. with them unplugged it runs fine...
also why is it when i set the cpu vid to auto the choice for the special vid goes away? the minimum i have to have the cpu vid set to in order to use the special vid is 1.2v anything lower and it does not allow me to check it. is that normal. ive tried 3 different bios now with them all working the same way.
what would you suggest praz as the best starting point for gtl's on this 45nm e8500 im at 65 for them all right now. if i set it to default it refuses to boot. and if i change them even to 90 (i went down progressivly from there) or anything less it boots fine..
also on the comment you made above when i use the special vid say at 105.xx% which im at now with the regular vid at 1.2 i dont see any change at idle while in windows with cpuz or other. i di have c1e disabled though now so that would make that not work that way corect?
im really trying to work this board the right way and not just slap high volts on it and go.. and i know you are about finnesse from your posts at least i think you are.. and id love some more help with my settings if you could either here or at dfi club if you are willing. learning a lot i never worked with before this dfi, thanks again praz for the help through my learning experience...
sorry to ask even one more thing but can you or someone post a bios template here so i dont have to go through all 78 pages.. so i can fill it out and maybe that will help with someone working on my settings a bit. thanks again to everyone here at xtreme / club dfi who has taken time to help me with this dfi.. i do really appreciate it...
Needs to be set to "Disabled" to adjust "Special Add".
Because of additional loading. No different then increasing the overclock.
My guess is the E8500. The BIOS may need a microcode update. I can check on that.
You don't say what FSB. I don't usually touch GTLREF till about 530 FSB or so.
You don't see any change in the voltage because VCORE needs to stay on "Auto".
May have to make some changes depending on the BIOS version being used.

^^^ awesome info thank you praz. the fsb right now is about 480 from what im at this moment. but if i leave the gtl's at default i cant boot?? you think there is a problem there? as soon as i lower them to about 90 or lower the system booted right up for me.
right now im running the 604 bios is there a better one for the e8500 you would recc.
ill fill out the template tonight when i get back home and hopefully you can help me out some if you would not mind. i would very much appreciate it. thanks in advance.
im finding i have to use the feature to lower the fsb though during boot. i had to set it to 200 or on a cold boot i get a quick on then off and have to reset the bios. with it at 200 it boots fine and is now stable as can be (so far over 1 hour on orthos) and everything seems fine. is this a okay thing to use?? any idea why its needed in this case??
and with a slight bump in the special vis i was able to set the gtl back to default settings also.. not sure though if i should leave them at the 65 i was using with the vid total at 1.296 or leave then at default and im at 1.31vid to be stable?? which would be better?
whats currently the best BIOS for 65nm Quad cores ( Q6600)?
Are you guys running with the Vcore drop control enabled or disabled?
mine is enabled im wondering if i should try disabled though just for the heck of it
Can any1 post a link for the 602 bios pls.
Cheers Paul
hmm still have to use the boot feature to remove 200fsb during boot .. but with that enabled this thing is rock stable at 4.1 ran orthos overnight and running / testing at 4.2 now and stable for over 30 min so far.. now i need to fine tune things though.. ill post up a bios template for praz in a bit.. thanks everyone for all the help
here is the 714 one for you get it from this page: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Downlo...FLAG=B&SITE=US
i know no one here recc it but i always flash with windows and never had a issue but i have a spare bios chip here. other wise set the bios to look for the usb drive first put the disc in and reboot follow prompts
Dropped the NB voltage to 1.28v. Still no problems. Good temps at 1.32v this time around :)
http://ocidb.com/albums/userpics/101...1_29v_4300.JPG
Is there anywhere i can get the Bios template settings list from or should i just copy/paste and fill mine in? I think i'm just about done for 24/7 settings.
copy and paste yours in there... man that is sweet.. i WISH i could get my temps that low.. wow... how the heck are you stable at the low of a nb voltage thats insane ill have to try that a bit lower im at 1.35x now on the nb..
how is it your temps are 60 all the way around?? at max , min, and currently??? are you sure the sensors have not stopped at 60?? i had that with my first e8500 with core 0.. i could only wish for that overclock.. with those temps on air if they are correct...nice
Yeah, they stopped at 60C. It was night, bit cooler outside though... 20C versus 30C during the day when i was testing it previously :)
Yeah, NB is no problem. It's low fsb man. I think i'd need over 500 to need any more volts for it. I think high NB is only needed for quads and 4gb ram or more.
hmm i have to try to drop mine some more i know at the stock speed it was def not stable
well yeah for nb voltage im down to 1.36 which is not to bad imo.. i am going to play with the gtl's after i get the voltages as low as i can for now. then once i get them setup maybe ill be able to lower them even more
[QUOTE=zfactor;3170966]here is the 714 one for you get it from this page: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Downlo...FLAG=B&SITE=US]

wait... how did you do that with special vid add i thought you could only add special vid with more than 1.2volts?? if i go below 1.2vcore than i cant use the special vid??? so how is that possible for you??
No idea. It just works. :) I'm using the 30/05 beta.
If i use 1.2v instead of auto then setting any special add that will go above 1.3v will result in a no post for me. I can only increase voltage over 1.3v with the VID set to Auto.
hmm maybe ill put mine back to auto and use the full add vid feature..but i cant pick add vid unless i set it to 1.2 or higher?? the feature is physically disabled
i wonder if i can drop the voltage some
As we all know, ever since the release of the DFI P35 Cell Shock PC28000 4-4-4-12 memory has been hit n' miss on DFI boards. As good as the memory is 1060MHz - 1080MHz was about tops regardless of voltages or timings. Oskar had done several alpha BIOS releases but nothing really improved.
Things are a bit different now with the release of the 07/14 BIOS. By allowing manual manipulation of DS/DDS and the DLL Modes the board can be tuned for just about any memory. The following screenshots are the first time my Cell Shock sticks have seen anything over 1100MHZ since the P965 board.
Once again Oskar, job well done.

The Special VID add was disabled below 1.3v, because of some instability. This was addressed in some bios update by DFI. The newest BIOSes have this setting fixed. That's how I recall it. So in essence, you're risking your CPU and MB using an older BIOS and the special VID add.
Praz: I see you use Host Slew Rate strong! I have allways used weak. What does it improve?
At times setting Strong brings stability to 45nm dual core processors when approaching 500+ FSB without the need to increase NB or VTT voltages. If GTLREF values are being manually set usually this setting will make no difference. This is assuming the values are being set correctly.
^^ thanks for the explanation praz. im learning to like this mobo and still learning what everthing extra is for i have the template ill post i forgot to do it yesterday ill do it when i get home today
any1 tried 725 alrdy?
Thanks for the link:up:
Ok i want to flash to this 725 BIOS, what is the proper way of clearing CMOS? ( if need to use jumpers, where are those located on this board?)
And do I need to clear the CMOS after/before ( or both) Flash.
Has any1 seen this b4 ??? it happened when i tried to get in the bios.

Hey wilson was that after the 725 flash:confused:
Thnx zsamz, just flashed my BIOS and now the big work begins :D
*edit I just flashed the BIOS to 725, however I have notice few things.
From what i read in the earlier BIOS the cpu voltage overvolts with 0.05? accordingly what is set to @ BIOS. Here my Auto VID: 1.2075 in windows I ilde with 1.216. Any comments?
Other thing to note is: the vDIMM, I set in bios 1.916v and according to smart guardian and BIOS reading it is 1.84v, which out of these 2 readings is closer to real?
Anyone having standby issues with this mobo, I get that CF error everytime along with a black screen on resume.
narc i had the same issue and for the life of me i dont remember what i changed but i did do something in the bios and it went away.. ill look at the bios when i get home.. take back any neg so far i have said right now im very happy with this mobo. it is strange in some ways of how it needs to be set compared to other brands or boards but once you get it there its just a bit of fine tuning. i also am finding the newest bios unstable i went back to 602 or 603 i dont remember the exact date and its rock solid again up to 4.2 with 1.32v and passed orthos all night long
Thanks Z,
I couldn't be happier with the mobo aswell. Any advice regarding this little nag would be much apprec. I've been through the bios many times and enabled everything possible reagrding Pcie settings and power mang. and usb/super io settings.
Any know where I can get the 602 or 603 it is BIOS for the LT X48? Cant find it anywhere:S
Well i managed to pass occt but i cant get to 4.0Ghz again only 320 bios let me do that. I have managed to lower my nb and ram volt`s with this bios from 1.47 down to 1.39v and 2.2v down to 2.0v.

http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...07/Pass715.jpg
Oke i got now 3 different values for the vDIMM, @ BIOSset 1.916 results in 1.87 @ BIOS reading. And smart guardian : 1.84. Which of those 3 are the closest to real?
Also this happends with all other voltages ( NBv/CPUVTT/) etc.
Thanks Clunk we now know were to measure the vtt, vcore and nb voltage and also the gltref voltages.Look here!
Thats the most accurate way to really know the values.
this is 602 bios verry stable for me its for ut x48 but you can use it
http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Downlo...FLAG=B&SITE=US
603 is x38
hey thnx zsamz does it atually voids warranty for example if your board dies and they found a UT bios in your mobo?
I know it abit ironic since using BETA bios in general would void warranty if anything happends.
If I want to flash it can I use this methode ( USB PEN, like I did for the 725 Flash) : http://www.csd.dficlub.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1136
hey zsamz , thnx for the advice, can the bios chips really ripped off with ease? So I just Pm him and ask if he could put the 602 BIOS of the UT X48 for me right? And is it possible to flash myself with a different BIOS afterwards, if so can I use any flash methode like on the stock BIOS chip?
yes no problem
i had 2 spare chips n i took one of em n hotflashed it on my ut p35
you can buy the tool or make one just need one of those compas kits that have 2 pointy ends n bend the tips
make sure you give him chip#s and the right file you want hes reliable and 10$ is good to
i stored away both original bios chips n runnin on biosdepot chips for a while now
This is new to me but is these any basic settings i should be looking at for my rig or is the default settings close enough? And DS/DDS and DLL is that all to do with the ram  I also had the host slew rate set to strog with my GTL`s set manually is this ok?
Thanks Paul
Looks like I am having to RMA my LT x48. :(
Just got the RMA number.. anyone know how long it takes for them to process it and send out a new one?
Just bought a T2RS on Sunday! What is the best bios for OCing on this board?
Is everyone pretty much happy with this mobo?
