Hey, keep the support up for the board you guys. Sorry about this, but its best this way. :)
[see my next post]
Not sure what happened KTE, but I wanted to say thanks for all your help with this board and Phenom in general... I'm a Phenom "Old Timer ;)" too and I wouldn't understand it nearly as well without all your help....
If your going to continue your testing and post results on another site, I'd appreciate it if you'd have one of your XS homies send me a PM and let me know where to look...
Either Way, I wish you the best in life!
"Live Long and Prosper, Tye" :)
L8r...... Dave
Well, my guess would be he finally got pissed off with the lack of proper support from MSI, or ended up having issues again with the processor/board. If that were the case I don't blame him for saying to hell with it, and getting off here. Don't think he'd have got the 9850 if it weren't for us here encouraging him to. Otherwise his work probably needs more time, and he can't afford to be wanting to mess around and read here.
But only that wouldnt really mean he would just burn all bridges.
In the other thread he said he had issues with PM system, he also told in some other thread about it. Maybe it's just the whole package. Or too much dedication to said hardware and that amount of dedication turned into disappointment due to bad support, PM messing stuff up etc and he doesnt want to do any of it for a while?
Maybe due to the dedication personal problems.
Anyway, thx for everything thus far KTE! I wish you gl and of course hope to see you back at some point again:cool:
Hey Folks...
I've started playing with Bios Verisons on the K9A2. Version 1.4 is very solid, and the fact that it doesn't have NB/IMC Multis is not that big a deal since you can crank the NB by using the HT Ref clock (10x on a 9850)...
The one bad thing I've noticed about 1.4 is that you can't really lower the V's on the CPU, NB or Memory using 1.4. Personally, I really don't think the NB/IMC needs 1.3v's to run stable, nor does the memory need 2.25v's.
The 1.3 Beta gives much more control over Voltages/Multis (Via P-States), and seems to do OK with the 9850...
When I flashed it I used all the switches /p /b /n /c. That resulted in AMD NB being set back to "Version B2" and probably went back to old DMI's etc....
Achim:Guess your the Only K9A2/Phenom Guru left.. ;)
I really don't want to kill my board, but I'm thinking If I flash the 1.4 and then revert to 1.3B without the switches, I might get better results (IE not changing the NB Drivers/DMI/sub commands)...
Before I do it, I'd just like to get an experts opinion... Is this asking for trouble?
On a lighter note. I received my 9850BE(JAAFB AA 0811CPGW) yesterday, as well as the 4gb(2x2) Mushkin DDR2 1066 ram.
Have already installed both, and burning them in to give the TIM some time to set. Haven't had a single issue yet on bios p.0J. Haven't had time to try any of the other BIOSs yet. Think about all I've had to do was set the Ram timings to spec in bios. still can't get the tRAS to set to 15 like it's suppose to be though, it only has the option for auto and that sets it to 24.
Daveburt714,
I'm about to implement overclocking capabilities in my CBId BE project for Family 10h processors. BIOS will be useless soon! LOL! For the moment the fourth beta version is officially available to download.
Ben_Brown, here you are http://cbid.amdclub.ru/files/cbidblack.zip
I’m also addicted with thermal power estimation for Phenom processors. I worked with KTE in this field.
VVJ thanks for the update and added support to phenom in your program keep us updated with any new releases...
KTE knows we all appreciate his help very greatly. side note I'm always at ocforums.com BTW... come visit me there if you like your presents will be missed by me for sure.
dave it is not recommended to flash without setting everything back to stock :D
Hi,
some one can make a list of all the bios realesed since now? Official, beta and mod, with a little description, and if possible also the link to download it?
Thank you very much.
P.S. How can i reset the settings of the AOD? Every time i run it, it try to apply the settings of the last time, and they crashes the system... I tryed also to uninstall and reinstall it, but nothing...
VVJ:Thanks for your work on CBID, looks like it will be a really nice alternative to AOD once you get it all up and running!
Jonspd:I took a chance and flashed from 1.4 to 1.1B3 without the switches... It still reverted back to NV Version B2 which was not what I was hoping for, but at least it didn't cause any problems.. ;)
Monstermash:On AOD, try going into "preferences" and under "profile" select "default". I've never had any luck trying to save/load profiles using AOD. You might also want to make sure that the "Automatically Run" box is not checked under MISC.
Just curious as to what bios version most of you are using...
Personally I keep finding myself going back to 1.4, the 1.5x Beta didn't seem to offer any benefits, and 1.1B3 just seems to give rare crashes...
I still can't get my OCZ Reapers to run at 1066, but they're not TRUE 1066 they use EPP settings...
I'm still running bios P.0J. I seem to be one of the few that never had issues with it. I don't think there are going to be any official Jedec 1066 specs. They treat DDR2 just as they did DDR1. Anything over DDR400, DDR2-800, is considered OCed or EPP memory.
I can't complain about the Mushkin 2x2 4gb kit I got, runs at 1066 5-5-5-15 cr2 at 2.05v without an issue. Haven't tried any other timings yet. Had to put em in the last two slots though. The HS on em is too tall and won't fit under the from of the ZT Nirvana.
The following link has the BETA and Performance BIOS's. As far as which one is the best, well let me know when you find out.
http://www.msi-forum.de/thread.php?threadid=35629
I have always liked 1.13b but some say POD (I think it is) is a good one also :D
I thought this was interesting. I was messing around with the 1.4 bios... and from what I can tell its garbage. I have my 9600 @ 2.5GHz using AOD, Turbo button RED. I knew something was fishey when I ran some Crysis benchmarks:
http://www.jmbat.com/media/phenomoc/...1.13b_k9a2.JPG
Needless to say, I'm back on 1.13B.
Batmang:That's probably because your running a 96BE and the1.4 Bios is applying the TLB fix. I haven't seen that kind of hit with 1.4 and the 9850...
Don't get me wrong, I'm kind of fond of 1.1B3 myself.. ;)
But the P-States thing can be a little confusing for a rookie...
Just didn't want folks with a B3 stepping to be afraid of version 1.4.
I don't see any performance hit with it on my chip. It's actually very stable and easy to use with a B3. :D
Yeah, I'm saving for a 9850 :)
Just thought I would post this, actually, I'm pretty proud of myself.. :p:
This ss is actually stable, using the 1.1B3 bios and a 9850 (I'm sure there are better B3's but this one works pretty good!)
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...FullScreen.jpg
Still tweaking, Hopefully I can get it a little better...
any winflash utilities for this board? cause i dont have a floppy or usb stick handy
Can't help you with a Winflash tool Msimax... I always use a bootable flash drive.
Has anyone managed to get 1066 ram to run on this board using the 1066 setting? The only way I can get it to run is to set it at 800 then OC the HT Ref clock to 266. This seems to work OK, but it limits the combinations I can get If I could actually use the 1066 setting...
I was just curious, seems odd that I can OC it up to 1066, but can't even boot into windows when it's set to 1066 in bios (It will post/but not boot)..
You will have to manually set the ram timings in the bios.
I'll be the 1st to admit I'm no expert when it comes to Ram timings Ben..;)
But I did set all the basic settings according to the EPP profile ex: 5-5-5-15-22 @ 2.1v.... Still a no go, when I try to run in 1066 mode.
It just seems strange that I can clock it up to that speed but can't set that as default mode.
I'm currently running Bios 1.1B3, but I had the same problem when using 1.4 relase version..
Mine works in 1067 ganged/unganged mode, with 2 kits (the only ones I got)
Tracers 8500 and 2x2048 Balistix 6400 regular both at 2.2V.
Using 1.4 Bios
EDIT**
IT might set RAM to 1t by default in your BIOS
or timing(s) to tight if set on AUTO
Off topic: Where did KTE go? ARE YOU HERE? *Calling/shouting*
He left the forum for some unknown reason. There's a thread he used to ask the mods to delete his account in the first section. I'll post the link.
Edit: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=187238
Yeah, I found it myself. Thats sad. A loss for XS :(
I am defiantly no expert in RAM timings either, just posting what someone else posted previously :D. One thing that they also stated was to set the timings at 5-5-5-15 (if that is your timings anyway)and set everything else auto. That turned out to be my problem anyway.
I have 9550
was thinking about a 9850, but I want to see how far this board will go with this if anywhere.
how high can I get the htt/fsb ?
ok guess I'm going to use AMD's over drive for right now.
I shall slowy go up but 1mhz at time.
i'm having massive issues with xfire on my K9A2 its running dual HD3850 256mb's and a 5000BE @ 3.2ghz @ 1.4v
issue is xfire shows enabled but reeps no gains at all with one card in or two tried with 1 and 2 bridges and cards in slots 2/3 2/4 3/4 (slot 1 is dead) with no luck
I noticed there is a 1.53 Beta bios on the MSI (German) Forum.
Just curious if anyone has tried it out, or has any opinions on it?
Unfortunately I don't speak/read German, not even sure if it's
for the V1 or V2 board...
Any help from any of our German members? Achim... :D
thats really dosen't seem right do you have AA& AF off ?
I had one 3870 that can play it pretty good in dx10 on very highthe MSI 3870.
I just put in a Saphhire 3870 & in the third slot it seem to be stuck in x8 mode in even when I change to 2.0 mode it's still 8x not 16x.
My msi 3870 is in 16 x @ 2.0. the second slot doesn't seem be working right with the saphhire card the MSI card works in it though. maybe I'll have to turn off all the pci express 2.0 in the bios first.
or anything else I missed in the bios.
both AA and AF are off it might just be that im using 256mb cards...and XP so xfireX kinda sucks IMO in XP32
Do any of you guys know full details about the AMD OverDrive turbo button? I know that switching it from solid green to yellow or red improves performance, but what does the button do?
From my light testing, turning it to red mode gives me a 1,000+ point boost in 3DMark06 and 2 fps in Crysis, the downside is a 5-6C jump in temperature on the CPU. Even sitting idle it shows a increase in temp just by toggling the button. Does anyone know what it actually does to improve performance? It's not the TLB fix in my case as I'm running XP64 and bios version 1.13beta bios. I'm not a big fan of enabling AMD OverDrive on boot up because it causes my system to crash/hang. I wouldn't mind knowing what the turbo button does though. It obviously improves performance.
Batmang:I can't say I can give you the "Full Details", but I seem to remember someone I trusted (KTE?) saying that the button did this.
Green: TLB Patch Enabled
Yellow: TLB Patch Disabled
Red: TLB Patch Disabled and System Tweaks turned on (HPET) etc...
I haven't really done any testing with it myself, the ring is usually Red whenever I open AOD though...
You've got me curious now... ;)
I'll try turning it yellow and running 3D06 and get back with ya.
+1000 points seems like an awful lot!!
After some brief testing... :D
Clickable:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...Yellow_AOD.jpg
Actually, after I opening AOD I realized it opened with the ring Yellow. I changed it to red and it resulted in a ~100 point increase in 3D06.
The good thing was it got me pretty close to my best 3D06 score ever (12089).. :D I got that score at 2.86Mhz which turned out not to be stable at stock V's..
My core temps did go up 1.5c when I changed to Red which is not a big deal I have a really nice HSF on here now....
Just thought I'd share my results.
The circle is irrelevant for any B3 model, including ,but not limited to
Phenom 9850BE.
Green =TLB Patch ON(TLB caching off)=reduced (to put it mildly)memory/cache performance
Yellow=Recomended (for MSI K9A2) by KTE (I think)
Red=Max performance, TLB caching ON (TLB bug fix off)
Use green only if you're running "virtual machines" in windows
What it actually does? It changes register values for the (4) cpu cores.
BTW my K9A2 had a funny burning smell, then wouldn't boot and after
spending hours I noticed that 1 of the "little squares" (mosfet?) right under
"Circu Pipe" is fried.
The 1.4 BIOS where I set the Vcore to 1.400 was giving 1.678
to my "low power" X2 5000BE
I had a 9600be phenom in it before and when I put the X2 in it the HT multy
did not go down to x5 like it should.
It stayed @ Phenom values (up to 13?)
When I did have phenom it the so called HT multy (from above) was actually
NB multy, so setting that would change NB for the Phenom and not HT.
NBvid is actually NBcore (1.1v) default so setting it to 1.350 (for a
milld NB OC) might fry the NBcore (chipset).
Luckily I had a water cooler on the 5000BE so it's fine but the damn
board is in "coma"
Well obviously it's not irrelevant, since I saw a 100 point increase on my 3D06 score by switching to the RED mode using a 9850BE. ;)
Now your scaring me man.. Just when I was in the middle of a pretty sucessful drunken OC.. :DQuote:

OUCH.., sorry to hear that bro!... The good news for me is, I don't even have an AM2 X2, I'm running the 1.1B3 Bios, and I've never seen weird overvolts like that.... Definetly something to keep a lookout for though... ;)Quote:

Socketman, is that one of the first revisions or a later one:eek:.
I thought MSI quite fixed the issue, if this is about a later one then.
KTE asked me to post his last success report with the msi here.

Grrr, my new MSI board is dead! :(
1.45v under regular use after 1 week killed it.
Please drop a line in the MSI thread at XS when you can saying I killed two
MSI boards inside 4 weeks with 1.448v load using 9850 so stay well away from
it! I was using BIOS 1.53 beta. Thanks man.

Just an Update for those interested...
I installed the 1.54 beta bios tonight, and so far things are going pretty well. :D
Finally, the 1066 Memory mode works from Bios!! Although it does set the timings really loose, you can set them back to Mem SPD settings and they still work!
These are very preliminary results, but I gained 50Mhz on the CPU Core, and the NB/IMC, without having to raise voltages...
There is No NB/Multi (like in 1.1b3) but I've had pretty good luck upping the HT Ref clock to 221...
The end result is 221x13x10x9 or (2873 CPU x 2210 IMC/Nb x 1990 HTT)...
Just my opinion, but this may very well be the best bios since 1.1B3!
I'll keep you folks updated, but so far it definetly offers an improvement...
Hello Dave!
Iam very interesting by 1.54 beta bios for 1066 ram, where it is, in msi.be ?
thanks
edit: ok i download it in msi.de, this 1.54 beta bios is very good, accept 1066 mod no problem and it have option TLB FIX " disabled " or " enabled " !!! very very good.
Thanks Dave ;)
I blew a MOSFET under a water cooled VRM on the K9A2 Platinum, at 1.5V on the CPU with a 9850BE. Now I am running at 1.45V and it has been stable for a while, see specs below.
I think what bothers me the most about MSI and this board however was their willingness to put something into the BIOS like PCIe frequency selection, and then tell me later it would never get into the production BIOS. And forever now I had asked for a Northbridge selector (hell, just tie it to the HT mult!!!) because the 9850BE has a 10x NB/HT multiplier, which limits overclocking a bit... bit as you can see below I have done ok. I would prefer to run my memory at rated speed or better with is DDR2-1000, however the lack of a NB multiplier selector in the BIOS makes this impossible. I also feel they used cheap parts like the coils and MOSFETs to save money (the board is cheap, the Promise SAS controller standalone edition costs as much as the board alone and it's damn fast 150MB/s with 2 drives RAID0). I would have liked to see MSI take a Gigabyte stance on the components, or go to a Digital VRM like DFI did.
And before you razz me on the power supply, I did record 1010W draw with a Kill-a-Watt so I have a Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W now which will be going in this week along with a real drain port on the rear... and yes I have 4x 3870 at 1000/1225... unfortunately so far, I tried 3dMark Vantage just once and everything was all messed up graphically. The CrossfireX drivers still need work.
Not to get off topic, but I had the same issue with Vantage as well. Could not get it to run correctly at all. However, something does not seem right about your 3DMark06 score. I would assume you would be in the 16000s bare minimum with 4 3870s, especially overclocked like that. Just seems odd to me.
Hey folks, been while posting in this thread... but any successes with new biosses? havent't checked them for while, gonna do some re tests with my old 9500.
Hi
from AOD i can change NB VID (at 1.3V default value) and NB Core voltage (at 1.1V default value), but in the bios the only present is the NB Core voltage. Which is the defference between them? Which i have to overvolt to keep an higher NB clock?
Thank you all.
Bye
I'm not sure if any MSI tech people are watching this thread anymore....
But the 1.54 Beta Bios is VERY good! Finally 1066 Ram support, and most benchmarks improved to some extent. The only thing missing is NB/IMC multi control, seems like most enthusiast are moving to the Asus M3A which has the ability to change the NB multi.
I know the board is capable, I have no clue why you don't give us this option..
I'm still running 1.1B3 just so I can change the NB multi (through P-States), even though I would prefer running 1.54B.
If you are watching, take the 1.54B bios, add NB Multi control and post it as the new 1.5 release version! The K9A2 is a nice board.. ;)
Please give us this option!!
New bios .155 posted on the msi-forum.de site.
Anyone crazy enough to try it..I won't for a while because I just loaded 1.54b onto my machine today.
Alright OtherDave, I'm Buzzed/Crazy enough to try it...
Hopefully I'll be able to give ya some results tonight. :D
If ya don't hear from me for a few days consider me a dead Guinne pig... :p:
I have beer courage dammit!! Hehe....
OK, double post.. But I feel it's somewhat worthy.
The 1.55Beta is NOT a machine killer (thank Cod!) :D
I haven't really had time to to play with it, but at least on my machine it hasn't caused any major problems (see Sig). 1066 Mem mode still works quite well... (you still need to tweak timings).
Guess the only real info I have on this Beta Bios is... It shouldn't kill your board or chip (which is a good thing ;))
Just my brief testing, but it seems to have decent potential. :yepp:
Here's a SS using 1.55 Beta:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...26_155Bios.jpg
my new toy showed up today :D
http://img.techpowerup.org/080707/receipt033.jpg
Geez, thats an old one CD! It might be a smoker... ;)
If your gonna run an older bios with it just be sure to use Sam2008's TLB disable patch...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=180338
Looks like a good canidate for the 1.13 beta bios to me.
no idea which BIOS i have as f right now (ill check on reboot) but it clocked to 2.8ghz without much work :D
EDIT:
ok im on BIOS 1.1 right now according to everest and here is the highest clock i have hit
http://img.techpowerup.org/080708/Ca...6-20080708.png
congrats dave for still being at it. If MSI would get off the but and make a 1.54 or so with the nb option I to might would try for a bios flash :D
New here, also using the K9A2 platinum.
I have a phenom 9850BE @ 2.88Ghz (240x12) - Stock Vcore
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=387194
I also have a 9550 in a ECS A780GM-A @ 2.8Ghz (255 x 11) - 1.3 V
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=385588
Now, what is very weird, i tried the 9550 in the K9A2 yesterday. It got to 2.85 before it was too much on the NB (cannot change in this BIOS)
BUT i use G.Skill DDR2 800 in both machines, in the ECS, ram able to reach DDR 1066 speeds without problems.
With the 9850BE i am only able to get to around 480 before i get BSOD's, but with the 9550 in the same MSI K9A2, i was able to boot at 1066 RAM with no problem, yet with the 9850BE in the mobo, the ram will not boot at 1066 nor overclock the MEM as far.
I have tried the same exact settings for the 9550 OC on the 9850BE and it just cannot get stable (255 x 11) With the 9850BE i cannot go over 240HTT
WHERE ARE YOU SB750!?
you can change the NB in the BIOS on the K9A2 set the HT link higher or lower and it changes the NB
http://img.techpowerup.org/080708/Ca...9-20080708.png
http://img.techpowerup.org/080708/Ca...0-20080708.png
now im curious i have these in my BIOS but have no idea what they do
http://img.techpowerup.org/080708/0708081355.jpg
those are the options i want!
what bios VER is that?
Wassup Stranger...
Yeah, like a pitbull, I'm pretty tenacious. :D
I finally settled on the 1.5 release version (for now). It doesn't have the NB Multi option but you can clock the HTRef higher than my chips NB will handle so the effect is the same if you play with it. If your running a B3 you might want to give it a shot, you can always revert back. ;)
charged3800z24: That HT/NB thing looks interesting, did you run any benchies to verify if it was real or just a fluke? Oh well, I'm kinda bored. I'll do a little testing on it and see what I come up with. Thanks for the tip!
just ordered this mb paired with a 9750 phenom, i'm anxiously waiting :)
TheMike: That should be a good combo Mike, and even though this thread is huge, theres ALOT of good info in here to help you along.. ;)
If you have any questions when you get the parts just ask. If I can't help you I'm sure someone can....
charged3800z24:Your right! Changing the HT Multi really does seem to change the IMC Speed, but it is VERY squirley to say the least!!!
As far as Winrar and Everest results go the performance boost seems to be real!! I really thought I had trashed something when I went to 13x (HT) though, and the bad thing is once you raise that value there doesn't seem to be anyway to lower it again.... Once I went to 13x my performance dropped really bad, and I couldn't get the NB/IMC to come back down again by lowering the HT Multi! I tried every value from "Auto" to 5x and the NB seemed to be stuck at 2600Mhz with pitiful performance!!
By chance, I thought maybe I had trashed my memory so I installed so older DDR2 800 (instead of the 1066). It forced the system to rewrite the NVRAM and the performance came back up to some extent...
I put the 1066 Ram back in and everything came back to normal again... Whew.... ;)
What I have to do ( cause I have AOD) is delete the config files in the program folder before I lower it. When I bring windows back up.. NB back down...Weird...
whats the diff between v1 and v2 of this board...any different bios versions / oc ability difference?
GenTarkin: If you have the option, I'd go with the V2...
I'm still running a V1 and it seems to be fine... IIRC, there were some improvements to the PWM section on the V2. I have a fan over my Power section so I've never had any problems.
For the price the K9A2 is probably one of the best boards available for the X4.
The Asus M3A32 may be a better option, but I've never owned one.
The one thing I can tell you for sure, is don't buy a GBT DS5 for use with a Phenom!!
how do you get up to 240HT?
I keep seeing every one up there my board won't go higher then 216HT (with my phenom's 9550/9850 both of them.)
I had Sempron in this & that went all the way up to 300HT
am I not doing something? or missing something....?
demonkevy666: On the 1.4 bios you don't have the option to lower the NB multi, so at 216 on the HTRef your IMC will be running at 2160. I'd be willing to bet that is whats causing the limit.
In the earlier days I used to run the 1.1B3 bios at 266 HT mainly because the 1066 memory option didn't work and it was the only way to get the memory up to speed. These were the settings I used 266 x 10.5 x 8 x 7. The 8x multi on the NB kept it below 2200.
Really, since they fixed the 1066 ram on the newer bios theres not much need to run high HTRef speeds (and it can cause stability problems).
I only use it now to tweek the NB and Memory and rarely take it over 205.
today got a weird problem, started this morning setting my ram to 1066 (got 2x team xtreem 1066 sticks) but during afternoon got many apps crashing randomly.
Setting the value back to 800 solved the problem.
Also , If the Bios allows you to change the HT(Lower) use it just as you would to lower the NB when going higher in FSB...I dont own your particular Mobo but most 780/790 bioses are real simalar in functions and are getting better with time.
As long as the HT is between 1800mhz- 2100mhz you should have good stability with almost any AM2+ Mobo...Memory running @1066mhz /divider will most likely need more NBvolts(chipset) to keep the IMC happy with stock Vdimm as Higher CPU/multi is . Ive ran my Dominators @ 1150mhz+ with the default Vdim and 9600BE up to 2600mhz stable..I have a very low clocking 9600BE(dosnt like Volts ,maybe ColdBugged 1.18volts) It will be replaced with 9850/9950 real soon...The best my B2 has is 2600mhzCPU/2400mhzNB
NOTE:
Ive noticed the HT likes to be (lower than the NB or Equal)up to 1800-2000mhz. The NB can alot higher than 2000mhz easily but the HT likes to be set around 2000mhz or lower to keep things stable (No matter how HIGH/LOW the FSB/MHZ..)My TA770 does FSB280mhz max with Phenom@2660mhz.(280x9.5) while using 7xHT = 1960mhz/HT
Hope my 2cents helps and nice work guys,,gOtVolTage;)
Anyone tried 1.5 bios yet?
no my HT changes my NB clocks Just like charged3800z24 board.
My HT only go's lowers with NB. If I go higher my HT the NB go's up, the HT stays at 2,000mhz in the bios.
I have to use AOD to lower it
my goal 2.7ghz-2.8ghz cause my chip sucks
Mine does too, but once I raise the HT multi (in turn raising IMC) it seems to get stuck at that setting and requires all kinds of tricks to get it back down. Including swapping out ram and returning to a previous restore point in order to return to a useable setting...
I'll admit I've never tried using it to actually lower the IMC multi (other than to get it back to 10x, which didn't work btw).. Have you actually had success using it to lower the IMC multi?
Lugburz:IMHO, the 1.5 bios is probably the best I've used so far. Very stable and the 1066 mem option works as it should, in fact you can even tighten up timings to match your ram specs..
The HT Multi trick works on the IMC in the 1.5 bios too, but just as a warning going over 11x can cause wierd problems, at least on my board/chip...
What is the HT Multi trick?
just a question: this mainboard will support the new 9950 be? i'm asking cause it's a 140W cpu :|
I ordered the K9A2 + a 9950. It will be here tomorrow. I am upgrading finally from my dual core opteron which has been a great box for nearly 18 months now.
Are there cliff notes, or a short "how to" for phenom overclocking? I would prefer to OC in bios, and not use the software.
Thanks!
yours will be easy enough just start raising the multi at first until you get used to oc'ing the phneom because its a fair bit different from oc'ing your standard AMD
some are hitting 3.4ghz just multi but your correct its always better to tweak just go about it how you would your oppty find the highest booting multi then mkae it stable and push the HTT up
ok fellas what bios are you guys using on this board ATM
is 1.62 the best out?
Hey Jonspd, I tested most of them and had the best results using 1.62b, although I tried the POH and had no problems with it I spent alot more time on 1.62.
Hope this helps... :)
