Im gonna look around it a lil more with some different settings, it still doesnt run 4:5 too well though it works a little bit longer than the 0804 but still i get system lockups and whatnot. Any other info welcomed I have screen shots if anyone would like to see my results
I can tell you that with the onboard sound disabled, 1394 disabled, and my wifi disabled on the board as well as floppy disabled it only takes me about 3 complete cycles of the windows load bar to boot into windows. I see little to no delays after running bootvis Trace- Trace - Optimize - Trace - Optimize - Reboot. It takes me nothing to load in, I also use a pretty dismantled Windows XP Pro that ive change a bunch. Windows File Protection off, edited DLL Cache, custom boot screen and a bunch of other garbage cleanups like services, windows components i dont need etc. Also have a very small bootup and running prefetcher set to 3 in the registry for Programs and Bootup files (works best imo after several reboots). I guess mileage will vary with model =pQuote:

what's the best way to flash bios?
dos? or asus flashing utility? or winflash?
thanks!
Hi im having some problems with my system and i dont know if they are related to the motherboard or some setting in the bios.
Sometimes when i restart my system will hang/freeze on the windows xp logo (i see the little blue bar that stops moving) before booting up into windows and i have to reset in order to get back up into windows.
my system specs are
intel E6600
asus p5b-deluxe
2 gig corsair xms2
soundblaster x-fi
sapphire radeon x1900 xt
corsair 620w power supply
anyone has any ideas what could be causing this problem? thx for help
Hello everyone!
I have a question
What biosversion is the best to oc with?
I have a Asus P5B DeLuxe motherboard and Intel Conroe E6400.
can anyone help me :)
As far as I know the other than dos utilities is a bios refresh.Quote:

if anyone else has any ideas feel free to help out =)
It could also be some setting in the bios , i used to get my mouse to stop workign and the usb keyboard used to freeze and i silved that by disabling usb legacy support in the bios , this is also the second motehrboard i changed so i know its nothing thats broken but has to be a setting or an hardware conflict at boot up. I also dont trust the new catalyst 6.10 drivers i installed =/ every time this happens after a fresh reformat its always after i install the graphic card and the audio card.
I found this thread where other people are experiencing similiar problems but seems no one can find a solution , but i just cant help to notice that everyoen that has this problesm has a soundblaster x-fi card in theyr system go figure http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=62995
Ok. This is what I have done:
tested 6 differend IDE rom drives, 2 manufactured sept 2006.
Tested 4 different SATA drives and one SATA 2 drive. tested ALL available settings for these drives and tested to F6 load ALL available drivers for the intel and jmicron controller.
Tested an IDE hdd, and tested with an IDE hdd that had a previous WXP installation on it.
Tested to load all installation files for windows onto the HDD and then to boot from it directly, having the jmicron controller diabled.
Tested Pressed XP Pro SP2, as well as three copies burned on different CDs. Ive also downloaded the "extreme edition XP" (with basically ALL drivers and all hotfixes currently available). This edition has EVERY DRIVER NEEDED included and still it gave the same error.
In BIOS I have tried everything. Pretty much everything has been disabled and I¨ve tried manual settings for frequency, voltage and so on.
The nenory have ben tested with all ossible settings and have been tested with memtest for 13 hrs - no errors.
I have also tried ALL available BIOS versions.
Every time it´s the same error.
"STOP: 0x0000007b" when the windows installation tries to initiate.
That means "inaccessible boot device".
So there are only two possibilities here:
1. The CPU is damaged
2. THe motherboard is fooked.
If someone doesn´t have any great ideas I will smash this board with a sledgehammer later today and forever regret buying this :banana::banana::banana:ty board.
why dont you just RMA it instead of smashing it
*** EDIT ***
Hi,
Not posted to this thread yet, although I've been following it with interest and have read it from the beginning
Anyway, I have a simple question. Will SATA II drives (and Windows itself) work any better/faster when connected to the Intel controller configured to Enhanced, AHCI in BIOS, or if the controller is configured to Enhanced, IDE?
The reason I ask is that I've also been experiencing some of the issues described in this thread and have a feeling that things work better if I install Windows without using the F6 AHCI drivers.
I don't use RAID, just a single 80GB SATA II drive for OS, and another 250GB SATA II for data (both Seagate).
Also, for my next umpteenth re-installation, I'm thinking not to bother installing any JMicron drivers (and setting it to IDE in BIOS), as when I do, they cause my dvd drive to show as scsi, but if I don't install them, won't I end up with an unknown device in Device Manager? Is this a different unknown device that was mentioned several pages ago, and that apparently can be fixed using the Asus CD?
Thanks!
Ehanced, ACHi and install AHCI drivers in windows (F6).Quote:

It is all workin here.
Thanks Kakulukia, you also replied quickly to some of my other threads. :)
But JMicron causes my optical drives to be recognised as SCSI devices? Some people say this in turn causes them to be slow and not work optimally? Also, I don't use RAID and certainly not on JMicron, so do I need those drivers at all? Is it a question of simply living with that "unknown device" in Device Manager?
Thanks again!
Am running on Raid0 now, and my bootcycle takes 1,7 clicks, could still be improved but I am happy now:) And Xitars, if you have tried that much already then you can safely conclude that it isn't your dvd drive or your harddisks(could still be faulty cables though or kink in the cable). So that leaves CPU and motherboard and my guess goes to CPU, call it a hunch. Fuxed up memcontroller or something. Would be easiest if you went to the store and have them replace your :banana::banana::banana: while you wait so they can see whats wrong.
Same here, but without Raid. Got on 0903 temp problems.
Again on 0804
I noticed the slow boot time & other bugs which drove me nuts. Coming from a very fast raid get this: abit kg7 raid & a putt putt Amd1400 measly oc to 1.5 or something can't remember..& 9700 pro....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't tried to install my old audigy zs plat yet to see if it helps as I am considering getting this board as it is right down the street from me but I have never heard of BFG motherboards!? what do you think
BFG Technologies Nvidia nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
E6600 L628B101
Asus P5-B Deluxe WiFi
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (PC2 6400)
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI PSU
ATI X1900XTX
$eagete 300GB SATA/300
My New buggy rig or get the BFG & possibly 8800gts
So Should I try the Audigy or Get the BFG??? any suggestions? As I am flippin tired of the darn voltages settings trying to oc this baby & them changing themselves to whatever they want to be....
p.S. Love the colors & Help c_fun & everyone : great job!

another P5B Deluxe (BIOS 0804) bug report:
on Vmem=2.15V and lower the mem can`t hit more than 470MHz @ 1:1 , 4:5 , 2:3 (did not try another dividers) no matter what timings
Tried : 2x512MB D9DQT , 2x1024MB D9GMH
Timings (MemSet): 5-4-4-4-10-5-32-3-14-11-6-8-5-5 (tried 5-6-6-6-24-... = the same thing)
BTW - both mem kits can hit 500MHz w/these timings @ 2.15V easy (tested @ P5W64-WS)

I have been trying to resolve the 1X pci express issue and stumbled on a fix that works at least for me.
I reflashed to bios 0614 then after stabilizing without an oc reflashed to 0804 bypassing 0711.
Working my way back up to the fsb I was at before.
For two days now I haven’t experienced the 1X issue and have been in and out of bios with multiple reboots and shutdowns.
I'm sure something will bug out sooner or later but for now all is fine.
At least Asus is consistent.:D

so far so good... i got up to 450 FsB with no mods.
the only annoying thing is the HUGE vcore droop (.07-0.09 volts).
it's blending away at 8 x 450 with no problems! :)
is that windows droop or DMM droop?
Because mine has tons of droop when reading windows software, but on DMM its closer to .02v... i droop modded it anyways though
what about just stress cpu? mine can also 450FSB but damn PCI-E 1x happens everytime above approx 378FSB

Another little test I ran, test time not on my AHCI windows but a little test on my new RAID0 windows. To test my theory further about Jmicron liking a ATA HD running from the IDE I got following results,
NEC IDE burner as master and no ATA HD = 1,8 bars
NEC IDE burner as slave and no ATA HD = 7,1 bars
NEC IDE burner as master and ATA HD as slave = 1,2 bars
NEC IDE burner as cable select and no ATA HD = 7,1 bars
NEC IDE burner fully disconnected from mobo and ATA HD running as slave = 7,5 splash bars
NEC IDE burner fully disconnected from mobo and ATA HD running as master = 1,5 bars
No devices on Jmicron and Jmicron controller disabled in bios = 1,4 bars
So again here, the theory holds up, the fastest I can get is 1,2 bars and this with ofcourse an ATA HD running from the Jmicron IDE channel. Maybe its indeed a problem with this Nec burner, anyone that has less than 1 bar on the P5B-Deluxe shout me a PM what DVD burner you have. I might borrow one somewhere so I can put an end to this.
I tried Tyrou's GX2 and it ran fine (8X)Quote:

The current driver is 4530 5/2/2006. Sound bugs were while in game 5.1 speakers sound borked. FIles open much slower than on an extremely old tbird like I said. I was just shocked.
Non tweaked or oc 3d 2006 was 6376 :( SO GRrrr:confused:
RMA.. hmm at stock speed I dont get the 1x problem, so RMA is not possible
Remove the Jmicron driver and install the windows standard driver instead, i had same problem, and when i did this my drives showed up as IDE again.Quote:

2shmmishim,
pci1x issue is that ur pci x16 slot doesnt work at x16 anymore but x1, that results in low bandwith, which is bad (for games :) ).
Many ppl fix this by increasing the pci x freq (try up to 115MHz).
this doesnt sound like a bug.Quote:

not sure this probleme would be solved with a new bios!
i think it's more an hardware aspect and Asus will perhaps release new revision of p5b
I have a 1900XT with occasional 1X issues. (Tried two different 1900XTs)
Was having problems with cold boot and fixed that by setting PCIe to 96Mhz.
Now, I only have issues with 1X if its after an unstable oc, or some random boots as well.
But its not that bad. I know right away if its working, once windows loads the screen blacks out and comes back on when in 16x, doesn't happen in 1x.
Anyone know if there is a performance hit going to 96Mhz ?
edit: forgot to mention, that I'm certain this is not a 1 settings problem, I think its a combination of settings etc/.
i got a question on temps...
is it true that the p5b dlx temperatur sensors read about 10degrees more then e.g. Gigabyte boards?
im asking cuz i got dualprime 67degrees on both cores running an E6400 @ 7x500, scythe mine cooling with 1000rpm 120mm Yate Loon fan.
are these temps critical?
on idle i have about 39 degrees on both cores.

Intel made the chip throttle at 85ºc. So by my reasoning, while 70ºc (15 degree from near critical mass :) ) isn't good for it, I have little reseveration about running it there.
Do you REALLY plan on keeping it for 5 years ? If so, then reduce your clock, otherwise those seem like perfectly reasonable temps to ME.
Also, my coretemp or TAT temps are never more then 4ºc from my AIProbe or other utils. I'm using a scythe infinity.
The only thing I did different was run 0614 for 24 hours to see if the problem occured with the older bios.Quote:

Has anyone got two pci-e graphic cards working in non-crossfire mode? I need to have three monitor setup, but I'm having troubles with the secondary pci-e x16 slot. My primary card is Asus x1950pro and I have tried Geforce 6200 and Ati x300 as my secondary. Geforce was found, but every time I installed it's drivers, x1950pro stopped working. I assumed the problem is a driver conflict, because they were using different drivers. So, I got x300. But x300 isn't even showing up on windows. I know the card works, because if I put it in the primary slot, it works perfectly. I'm thinking the problem is probably the fact that the secondary pci-e x16 slot is working in x4 mode. The manual says that not all the graphic cards will work in that mode. But which ones do?
Can I get that x300 somehow working in that secondary slot or what kind of secondary card do I need?
I device manager choose update driver, choose "no, not now" on ext option, next option choose to install driver manually, next option: "dont search, i will decide", and then choose standard windows driver.Quote:

@pillar,
perhaps try testing the 2nd x16 slot on its own, I just had my Aug batch mobo replaced cos of a bad 2nd x16 slot - wouldn't even POST on its own and the system freezes if I tried to install any drivers when using 2 cards.
The replacement Nov. batch mobo worked fine with 2 cards and would POST with a single card in the 2nd x16 slot too.
Hi to everybody!
I just finish reading allmost every post on this forum and i can tell that the 1x PCI-e problem can be also a video card incompatibility problem( i say this becouse are users who don't have this problem nomatter settings they are using) and in allmost every case this can be solved by setting MCH volt to1,45 or PCI-E Freq to something >100Mhz(is up to u wich freq u chose becouse not in all cases the problem dissapears at certain freq) but remember
keep it below 120 because not every card can hold this freq...
The same happened to me, except one of the other mosfet close to that one burned up. Just RMA it.Quote:

i think you get the drift
It really doesn't matter when you disable it, its best to disable before you install windows since then windows doesn't install devices in "Device Manager" for stuff you aren't using(less clutter this way, not that it matters much). That one port is just the marvell yukon and driver install worked perfect, get the newest ones from Asus, the ones from cd are ancient!Quote:

You probably didn't, since he's not trying to get it to work in CF. ;) He's just trying to use more than two monitors and for that you need two graphics cards. It should be possible with the P5B DLX.Quote:

Can you try to put the vmch (vnb) at 1.55 and verify if your 7900 is still at X16!Quote:

AUTO is not good because you dont know what voltages the board gets. please try and see if your board posts 400FSB @ 1,45V MCH (NB).Quote:

i cant post at 400FSB and 1,45V MCH, but it does look stable at 1,55V.
I have X1900XT 256MB and I haven't seen a single pcie 1X state for now. With the older P5b Deluxe (that died) I got 1X constantly, but the new one looks a lot different- no pcie 1X AT ALL!
