just found a review of those Sytrin KuFormula VF1 Plus VGA Coolers:
http://www.ocia.net/reviews/sytrinvf1/page1.shtml
oh look, the VF-900 is not only smaller, quieter, and easier to install, it is also better at cooling http://www.ocia.net/reviews/vf900/page5.shtmlQuote:

although under the max overclock test, the vf1 won
but i can't get the vf1 over here
My guess is user error
 Not under the highest load and it cost $15 more.http://www.ocia.net/reviews/vf900/page5.shtmlQuote:

Looks like the Thermalright V-1 Ultra could be the one to get according to those results
has anybody else had any experience with these coolers?
are they really as good as that review made out?
I had the V-1 but it really isn't that great of a performer.. a VF-700 beat it down..Quote:

user error or biased review?
i just want whatever (air cooler) will give me the lowest load temps
My Guess is User Error but I don't know for Sure..
hmmm... i guess i'll just stick with the vf900 for now then, thanks nn_step :toast:
This is what I mean. No user (or very few) actually have the VF900 for real world testing. I see some sites saying the V1 kicks ass, others say the VF900, it is all over the place. The 7800GTX runs quite a bit cooler than the X1900XTX as well which really makes me wonder how people are raving about how the VF900 will do on the X1900XTX when there is a lot of testing yet to be done.Quote:

I'll have one soon, I'll be comparing it with my current zalman fs-v7. I'm going to run 5 loops of 3d05, log temps, and then replace and repeat.
if you really want to see how hot your gpu can get loop 3DMARK01 nature about 30 times with no title screen between loops and watch it get quite high. I find next to nothing gets your gpu quite as hot as a loop of nature 01. It takes less than 1 min to complete a run so for less than 30 mins you get a very good representation on the temperature of your card which is about how long it takes to really get heated up anyhow. These 5-10 min runs are barely getting the card started.
