My new build is working fine here, although I only put it together last night. Could there be a possible problem with the original shipping bios (11/02/05)? I flashed to the 11/25 bios last night when I installed everything and so far so good. Just wonder if the original bios might be flawed somehow?
Shawn
Dun think there is any flaw with the original shipping bios (11/02/05), my mobo currently still using thisQuote:

Like I said, just curious. It seems when people here and around the net report that the board has killed there components, no one ever reports what bios they were using. Just trying to get some sort of history if I could.
Shawn
That's easy, if there is to be ANY meaningful outcome of the poll, those folks who are running trouble free need to respond. If they do not, then all you get is a report of problems without relation to the general population. That's the trouble with threads like these. They tend to accumulate all the trouble users while most of the happy campers ignore it.Quote:

Well this is why I wanted the threads.Quote:

Number 5 was a pre-release board, not a retail one.
Number 6 is another ATI board and the very first posts says "luckily it didn't take my 3500+ with it".
From what I can see 1.5 CPUs have been killed by Expert boards, counting the pre-release board as half.
Whether we can throw the ATI boards and the Expert into the same basket is unknown and given DFI's unwillingness to debug we probably will never know. In any case, the second ATI board case you gave did not kill the CPU.
Pedro has been unwilling to answer questions about what Vcore and Vdimm he ran, whether he voltmetered anything or what kind of RAM he used. OPB, who used a pre-release board, made a public statement that while his CPUs were killed he doesn't see a reason to disrecommend the retail boards.
I think the whole theory is a little shaky.
aside from the lp-250gb, the sli-dr expert is the best board i've seen to date :)
this rdx did kill a opteron 146Quote:

i want dfi to check that case badly because i don't even know i get rma and when i put it into a new board it shouldn't take my cpu with it.
if i oc'ed with it its another case, wich i didn't do that day :)

I use these voltages for benching since the DFI SLI-DR came out..
1.77 reported by BIOS or set in BIOS?
 Wouldn't you think that over time this level of voltage can contribute to the CPU dying?Quote:

I dunno. How can you complain that a mobo killed a chip when you put 1.77v through it. Thats about a 25.6% increase over stock volts regardless of the cooling provided
What do you guys think about this ATI board phaenomenon?

Well said. This is all I'm trying to get people to think about before they panic. All we do is drive manufacturers away from the enthusiast market when we let things get out of hand.Quote:

I'd rather have something that I don't expect to die in 3 months... (seems to be life span under heavy usage with all the people I personally know)
For what it's worth, I would be happy to examine one of these "CPU killer" boards and even risk a CPU doing it if somebody is willing to lend one out for two weeks before RMAing it.
I'm not going post anymore about this issue
Dead CPU and Expert motherbard are available to be analyzed DFI if they want..
If DFI want to gave and explanation I'm opened to fully co-operate with their technician.
the reason I started this thread is to help people get a better perspective on how much of a risk these boards are. A lot of people I've encountered have said that they'll never recommend DFI again because of all of the bad reports. Well, everybody reports bad things and how mad they are, but hardly anybody starts a thread with "THIS BOARD RAWKS"...thus putting a negative spin on ALL DFI boards (more of a spin then there should be, at least).
Well, judging by his "unlocking an Athlon 64" thread it seems that join nbk is experiencing some very rare adventures but how come he possibly experienced the nine situations of the poll especially when two are in contradiction with the seven others
oh god that kids "unlocking an Athlon 64" thread was hilarious especially since he always typed his messages in a hurried manner as if like Federal Agents were about to break down his door and stop him from revealing his secrets,,,Quote:
