if you compare AMD's move here to what ARM is doing in the RISC segment, they've grown immensely as a company, and they CPU designs are breaking into new markers such as server.
Sometimes the best strategy is knowing how to position yourself in the market, only time will tell if AMD's strategy will pay off.
AMD is far more likely to go bankrupt than to pull off some huge coup against Intel's who has like 80%+ market share, while simultaneously removing nVidia's massive 62% vs 36% discrete gpu marketshare lead.Quote:

ARM for how influential their products are isn't that rich of a company. ARm holdings net profit last year was 160 million british pounds. Sure its a good amount of money, but for how ubiquitous their products are you would expect it to be more.
Compare this to qualcomm who made 6.1 billion net profit and you will see what I am getting at. You can't just make that much money off of standards and Ip, you need to sell products along with those standards to make serious money.

on a macro nation-sized scale, the PRC (Chinese) are masters at the art of long term planning where short term planning is usually 25 years and long term planing can be anything from 100 years forward.
the capitalist business model from the western is always looking at short and medium term profits.
more technically the politicians and people are, which hurts it in the long run.
