I have asked R&D to look into this board and a couple of others. There is a holiday in Taiwan for the next week so things will be slower than normal. As soon as I have word on this and other boards, I will update the posts.

A bios that supports lower then 1.8 cpu pll for the P6X58D-E would be awesome.

This is mildly off topic but it would be awesome if you could ask R&D if/will there be an update to the Asus OC Station. It has a few bugs that have been posted in the forums but no update since 2009/10/05 and was quite an expensive product. The functions it offers are awesome but having to load the profile at every restart kinda sucks.

I 2nd this for the Rampage II Gene, users around the forums are getting very high overclocks undervolting the CPU PLL below the default 1.8v. Also, QPI PLL isn't even an available voltage to adjust???

Here is an example of someone turning down the CPU PLL and getting a 4400Mhz OC on a i7 920. Its from a thread I have going about my heat issues

I've seen people asking couple of times for option to Disable HPET in Rampage III Extreme BIOS, so is there going to be one, or is there a way I'm not aware of to disable it now?

I've tried 2 Asus X58 boards with my OCZ Blade DDR3 2000 Memory modules and would NEVER POST with 1N or 2N , It only POSTs with 3N

I've had a Gigabyte EX58-Extreme before that ran just fine with 1N

Features lost on p7p55d bios between original release and now on p7p55d-e.

I've extracted ACPI AML from RampageIII-Extreme-ASUS-0602.ROM, and disabled HPET, in attached archive you will find both .aml format, that must be replaced in original BIOS, and .dsl file to see(use any text editor) the modifications. I also commented the mods for easy understanding...

It's all about lowering the average DPC latency, which is a goal when doing extremely low latency audio recording. Gigabyte offers the option, and most every DAW system integrator is using gigabyte boards because of it and the TI firewire chipsets they offer.

I see no reason why it wouldn't be added as feature, is just 1 tick register, and ASUS/AMI does have this feature on some BIOS'es.
I agree about the quality of the fireware chip, I always prefer to spend few more bucks and get a good stuff(not the case of my P6T7 WS SC that include a VIA cheap crap chip), problem is that OEM's never understand this and try to monetize every single penny...
And as final note, I'm stoned when I see top products still including PS2 crap instead a more useful port like serial(if they still want to get a extra use of Super I/O chip), common how long we have to wait to get rid of that?

Since I really don't know what you are talking about with your files above, I'm going to have to hope Asus decides to add the feature for us. :(

There is no secondary lan on the Rampage III Extreme.

Thanks for your time, but don't put too much time in it. It really isn't worth your time. If Asus doesn't add it I can live with my latency, I'm just hoping they see the value in giving us the option. They could sell a few more boards to the audio community.

The only thing I disable is the on board audio. Everything else I use including USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB

To everyone, thank you for the comments and suggestions. R&D is back to work after the national holiday and I will be in Taiwan shortly also. I have listed the current requests and we should have further BIOS' released shortly. I will provide updates this weekend.

OK, I did a test for you based on 0704 version, now if built in HDA is disabled, HPET goes disabled too.

I would like to thank bingo13, Jeff Flowerday and KaminoReal for the information provided. For a long time I have been very interested in which 1156 socket motherboard, either Asus P7P55D Deluxe or equivalent Gigabyte, would be best for audio work (DAW). I have not checked the audio forums lately and was unaware that the HPET would effect DPC latency.

Kamino, do you know if disabling HDA (high definition audio) on the Asus P7P55D Deluxe also disables the HPET? Are you aware of any tools that will display whether the HPET is enabled or disabled?

bingo13, I second Jeff Flowerday's recommendation to add support for disabling the HPET in the bios. Can this be done for the P7P55D Deluxe? I also agree with Jeff that many audio guys would like to have this option.

Jeff, can you provide the URL to the audio forum thread that discusses the HPET issue?

Just google HPET "DPC Latency", there are posts all over the place.

I've personally disabled HPET on a gigabyte board and seen the latency drop dramatically, so you can take my word for it.

There are many ways to check if HPET is enabled or not, I'll show the most easy one:
Install Lavalys Everest Corporate version.
Run the program and right click the lower bar window, select ACPI Tool, and Find HPET(use find button), then double click on _STA entry(Status) if it returns:
Dec: 15 Hex: 0x0000000F - is enabled
Dec: 11 Hex: 0x0000000B - is enabled but not visible
Dec: 0 Hex: 0x00000000 - is disabled

Or you can go into device manager and choose view "Show Hidden Devices". Expand system devices and you'll see "High precision event timer" listed there.
