its still early silicon most likely if theres actually one in the labs.
and the numbers you look for wouldn't anywhere be worth writing home about either.
they've surprised us last time with istanbul,

gf showed off 28nm wafers 1 year ago during computex 2009, but ramping it up takes time...
and am i the only one whos a bit worried that they want to jump to 28nm with a new design right away?
and they couldnt get K9 done at all, they couldnt get K10 done properly, it took them forever to move k10 to 45nm... and now they are somehow launching 3 new designs at the same time?
Well they canceled it after only 6 months, so I don't think any of us actually had gotten much hope for it in such short time, or if we knew about it at all at that time. Can't remember.Quote:

Sorry for being OT, but any of you guys know more about the K9 design? From what I've read (very little) it was canceled as it was way too optimistic for that time and would have been a ground up new uarch. Any relation to the BD design probably?
"K9 appears originally to have been an ambitious 8 issue per clock cycle core redesign of the K7 or the K8 processor core.[1] At one point, K9 was the Greyhound project at AMD, and was worked on by the K7 design team beginning in early 2001, with tape-out revision A0 scheduled for 2003. The L1 instruction cache was said to hold decoded instructions, essentially the same as Intel's trace cache.
The existence of a massively parallel CPU design concept for heavily multi threaded applications has also been revealed, as a planned successor to K8. This was reportedly canceled in the conceptualization phase, after about 6 months' work."

The difference between idle and load isn't that huge in power cost. You can run BOINC while you are browsing the web for instance. Doesn't mean you have to leave your PC 24/7. Also, straight donations of money to things like Cancer projects aren't even close to 100% efficiency either. Those campaigns and people who work for them have to be funded as well.Quote:

Intel extreme series cpus are always 1k. With Gulftown, you actually get better power consumption with 32nm and 50% more cores, so the best extreme series deal so far for both AMD and Intel. Too bad Intel is going to follow the trend of charging 1k+ for the fastest desktop processor.Quote:

Cheaper gulftown comes in the form of sandybridge. It'll be here soon. AMD is pricing aggressively ONLY because their highend is only able to compete with Intel's mainstream so it'll make no sense to charge a premium. They'll have no problem charging a premium if they could. I'm sure their marketing department has done all the math.
