If this is true, there have to be some Bulldozer ES chips out for testing. I'd like to see the numbers :p:
2011 would be an interesting year :D Hope AMD can deliver something great like K8 years ago :D

its still early silicon most likely if theres actually one in the labs.
and the numbers you look for wouldn't anywhere be worth writing home about either.
they've surprised us last time with istanbul,
lets hope the process is just as smooth this time around.
Hope this is true, because Bulldozer sounds like AMD's saviour.
Man i hope this new arch delivers !!! I would be all over it like fly on honey ! :D
Complete repost, actually.
"Author" posted all of this on his blog last year.
http://marisonreadings.blogspot.com/...er-bobcat.html
Why are we getting so excited over a repost of information? I see nothing new there.
as expected ... any smart man would launch its products just before Christmas sales, that of course is the biggest sale event on the planet (except for gtx480, they missed it :ROTF:)
gf showed off 28nm wafers 1 year ago during computex 2009, but ramping it up takes time...
and am i the only one whos a bit worried that they want to jump to 28nm with a new design right away?
and they couldnt get K9 done at all, they couldnt get K10 done properly, it took them forever to move k10 to 45nm... and now they are somehow launching 3 new designs at the same time?
Well boys, i hope Bulldozer delivers for us enthusiast crowd. I don't expect it to beat Intel but good competition is what we need. I miss those FX-51 days......
Looking forward to early benches.
Sorry for being OT, but any of you guys know more about the K9 design? From what I've read (very little) it was canceled as it was way too optimistic for that time and would have been a ground up new uarch. Any relation to the BD design probably?
"K9 appears originally to have been an ambitious 8 issue per clock cycle core redesign of the K7 or the K8 processor core.[1] At one point, K9 was the Greyhound project at AMD, and was worked on by the K7 design team beginning in early 2001, with tape-out revision A0 scheduled for 2003. The L1 instruction cache was said to hold decoded instructions, essentially the same as Intel's trace cache.
The existence of a massively parallel CPU design concept for heavily multi threaded applications has also been revealed, as a planned successor to K8. This was reportedly canceled in the conceptualization phase, after about 6 months' work."
First line is originally from The Inquirer the second from Anandtech (copied here from Wikipedia). Second line for me hints at something like BD - although it is really a too general description.
Thanks,
K9 was not a good marketing name too.
First 32nm with AM3 Socket
then 32nm with AM3r2 Socket
(like Phenom II 940 920)?????
Hopefully AMD can deliver. I'd love a fierce pricewar! :yepp: And currently AMD could really use some good profit.
if thats your biggest problem, u must have such a horrible life, lol
im in the same boat, 940 with DDR2, so i picked up a 1055T (its sitll in the box cause im waiting on a bios), so for me its a great upgrade to hold me off for probably 1-2 years. and then ill upgrade to the BD when AM3+ boards are out (and hopefully quad channel RAM?!?!, sorry i got a little lost on if thats actually coming to the consumer market)
either way, AM3 cpu in AM2+ now, and waiting for matured BD with lower DDR3 prices and better boards is the way i think to go
and i expect to see a significant boost in clocks, i run my 940 at 3.3ghz 24/7 at stock volts, keeping CnQ on. so with 1055T i expect to have in games about 3.8ghz using turbo, while still being in the same power envelope as my 940, but also have 2 extra cores if anything gets to use it (physx maybe?)
The author of this article thinks desktop BD is coming before Fusion? :ROTF:
And cites no source for something that would be big news, in fact, doesn't seem to be aware it would be big news. :shakes:
Edit: And makes many other errors... okay, nevermind, move along...
The difference between idle and load isn't that huge in power cost. You can run BOINC while you are browsing the web for instance. Doesn't mean you have to leave your PC 24/7. Also, straight donations of money to things like Cancer projects aren't even close to 100% efficiency either. Those campaigns and people who work for them have to be funded as well.
Both have poor efficiency, but both will help fight diseases. And that's what matters in the end ;) If enough people help through donating money and/or computation power, eventually the diseases will be put to a stop (Hopefully!).
Anyway, sorry for going offtopic. :)
Intel extreme series cpus are always 1k. With Gulftown, you actually get better power consumption with 32nm and 50% more cores, so the best extreme series deal so far for both AMD and Intel. Too bad Intel is going to follow the trend of charging 1k+ for the fastest desktop processor.
On the other hand, if Intel were to release only unlocked gulftowns from henceforth and charged $300 for them (something that makes no sense from an economic standpoint in terms of fab investment and profit, as well as premium on innovation and performance), two things will happen:
1. AMD would take Intel to court
2. AMD would cease to exist as a cpu-making business (and Intel may have to be split up)
Cheaper gulftown comes in the form of sandybridge. It'll be here soon. AMD is pricing aggressively ONLY because their highend is only able to compete with Intel's mainstream so it'll make no sense to charge a premium. They'll have no problem charging a premium if they could. I'm sure their marketing department has done all the math.
Didn't you know before you picked one up? Or the pricing was too irresistible? lol
