From what I understand this board will not unlock chips although as always things are subject to change.
Hmm raid and ocing IMO don't go hand in hand, unfortunately I do not have sata3 drive or more than 1 ssd nor the funds to purchase so I can't help much on that topic.

Is there still a brick wall holding the memory back on these new gigas? Thought with 1866+ on the box it might of changed :confused:

Tested speed that I know have passed on gigabyte with this particular set with cpu low to eliminate it from the equasion.

Now gigabyte specs there board to run 1866, Corsair specs there ram to run 1866 @ 7-8-7, AMD only specs there cpu's to 1600.

Really hope these ram issues get sorted, love my gigabyte boards but I cant stand them getting shown up by the asus counterparts :(
Thanks for posting this, would of probably gone ahead and bought one if I hadn't seen the htt and ram limits :shrug:
The HTT limit is there for all ddr III boards.....you might squeak a validation out at 400 ht.....but thats it, anything benchable beyond 370 is usually not happening.
I am working with manufacturers to fix this issue.
As far as ram + timings, this set isn't that great ( my best set is set aside for ln2 ) but performance is good.
I think your missing the picture that the cpu is the bad apple here not the board or corsair, dual channel the cpu can't do.
MSI has a cool new bios out that allows you to clock ram like a pro......
Don't go playing around on bot with it though the clocks artificial and you will get rolled in clock per clock ;)

anything special with the cpu-nb on this board? i noticed in all your screens they were all about 2800 except one was 3200,, i just ran a bunch of 3dm06 w/ nb 2.6ghz 1.3v, but when i put it to 2.8ghz it freezes in cpu test 1 with all cpu-nb volt options between 1.3 & 1.475v :shrug: gonna mess with it more tomorrow but im goin to bed now.. what did you need for 1125mhz core, 1.5v?
understand that just was seeing if there was a trick to help cpu-nb stability or something, ran fine on my gd70 w/ 2.8ghz nb... also chip fails prime on here in 10 min or so @ 4.1ghz 1.53v (w/ stable cpu-nb) which was blend stable on air & water on gd70
MSI GD70 runs slack performance settings to allow for artificially high clocks....It's also a mature platform.....890 is new and beta bios's are coming out almost bi weekly so it's far from mature.
Only tricks I know is knowing my hardware well and never expecting it to do XX speed at XX volts on any board I toss it in.
lol i wasnt expecting my chip to do any specific settings, just stating that after you said all silicon is individual .. also is there any data to back up the artificially high clocks? (not spi/ram performance, more from cpu p.o.v.?) because w/ all same exact settings & hardware except mobo there was only a 42pt difference in cpu score for me on 3dm06 which is normal for same clock speeds. also the gd70 had ~650pts more total 3dmarks :shrug:

Bugdet IGP/HTPC board versus entusiast desktop. Mature bios versus brandy new and still needing tuning.
I'm not going to get into particulars.....just scan hwbot an you will get your answer......clock per clock it's slow thus no one uses it even though it clocks higher it still can't compete.....except in 3d
I have multiple boards here that i have tested, totally unbiased i use whatever works for the specific app I am working on, other than that a board is a board.....
Great board for mainstream if it has a good PWM, I'm on my 4th for air/water testing etc not what i call good QC or design.
My board whines when I use more than 1.475v on load. So glad I've got a backup...
I don't understand why someone would conpare a 790FX GD70 to a mainstream + IGP board...
Maybe GD70 vs 890FX GD70? Dr Mos is here to save the day :)...nah really I own one foxconn (AM2), one MSI (<---Socket A!), and two gigabyte boards (AM2+, AM3).
wasnt tryin to make this about what board is better, just brought up the other board when he said it was the chip that couldnt push that far, and only compared their scores when he said msi has worse performance w/ same clocks.. my orig question was about clocking nb on the giga board nothing more, sorry
Are you having trouble clocking the NB? At first is seems like the NB wont do anything but I managed to get up into the 2.8-3.0 range pretty easy after a while. It's just weird it seems.

In fact I'm running 2875 stable at 1.45v. Thats about the point where I get no more scaling, I have 2800 stable @ 1.375.
I have the board and its great but I have two new Intel 80G G2 SSDs and the F4 bios doesn't see them for ahci or raid on the sata3 controller, and even though the sata2 controller does, Win7 refuses to load, even with the correct drivers, etc. Says the drive is unable to install OS on.
Took the two drives and put them in my 790GX board and they work fine, raid 0 or ahci and pull ATTO 479MB/s reads.
HardOCP review used two Intel 80G G1's and it worked fine, so maybe the drives are just too new?
That really doesn't make sense...email Gigabyte?
Yah tbh I was just pointing out the how and the why some boards can do XX frequency and some boards can't.
Based on the ln2 results rolling in from some users 890 is having issues with nb clocking and not just giga.
Me personally I have had no issues so far, I have also not used ln2 so can't make any claims until further testing.
Should be adressed with time.
What I can say is I have a chip here that does 6.5/4700 NB on my giga.........the same chips does 6.8/5000 NB on msi however the performance at those max speeds is about equal except in 3d...which once again goes back to the explanation I gave you on the how and the why.
