Drop the memory to 400 and i can post 270 easy and higher!!!! This is G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM).
The only thing I have found to work with setting higher than 400 is to bump the mem volt up to 1.8v+ and loosen the timings, but then, I'm running OCZ1333. You can get this board up to 333+ to get your mem to run faster at the 1:2 divider, just drop the CPU multi and the other multis too.
yeah, max rating for my mem is 1.65v and i have no idea why but the lowest i can set my ram to is 7-7-7-16-27 @ 400 bios (522 real)
Can anyone suggest some looser timing, i have tried 8-8-8-22-30 and 8-8-8-24-33 and 9-9-9-24-33 however none boot
just thought i would post that i have logged a tech enquiry (like it makes any diff) with ASUS and will see if they reply.....yeah right!
So is this issue down to the memory we are using for this mobo or is it just the mobo? Would memory in the QVL work correctly? I am unsure if i should just purchase another mobo or dimm's so unsure which way to go if this is not fixed in the new few weeks which i highly doubt.

my mem is gskill F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ which is stable at ~860 9-9-9-24 (216htt, 800 divider) 1.57v.
I have also tried 667 and 533 divider with above timings (9-9-9-24) and cannot pass this htt wall. It only works @400 divider. I haven't tried more than 1.65v though...
I mean that I don't think this has to do with tight/loose timings...
ahh okay pcfreak, i have seen your post here and on the members forum from ASUS. I to have copied everything you have tried, my pc is stable at 220HTT, 800divider no problem @ 866 8-8-8-8-24 1.65v
As soon as i try 1 Mhz higher on the fsb, pc wont boot unless i drop divider to 400 which is terrible!533/667 = no boot.
Whats the solution out of this? Different mobo? Different memory? It seems its not cpu specific but more down to how the mobo deals with the memory?
I don't really know. First I thought it was cpu (new Athlons II, no l3 cache) but there are guys running them >220htt. It looks like it is memory related since our memory is not in the QLV but only if someone tries a QLV kit we will be sure...Quote:

okay well i might be able to twist my wifes arm to let me purchase some memory to test. I will ensure its in the list and then we can see. Ither then that i guess its a new mobo time as it will probably be the cheapest to replace.

Almost forgot, the perceived memory divider issue is NOT a divider but rather a SPD characteristic, I noticed that when I set the divider to 533 in bios, my timings were set at crucials 533 settings 7-7-7-yada, when I ramped up to 250, aka now 666 the ram couldnt handle the tight timings and I had to manually set to 9-9-9-yada which ran perfectly.
Make sure if you change the memory divider in bios to manually set the memory voltage/timings (no AUTO) for your ram and you should be good to go.

yes the board is nice when it works... I can also get it to 260x13 in a second when I set mem @400 ;)
I know it is probably memory related and also that my memory is not in the QVL list. I set manually memory parameters (cl-trcd-trp-tras-trc) but it is probably something else... But it is funny that no matter the divider I get the wall exactly at the same htt value (for me 218)...

ASUS reply was terrible, telling me to check some forums on how to overclock. I didnt even ask them about that i plainly explained that there is issue with the ram and that many machines wont post wth a fsb of 217+ unless the divider is set to 400.

I'm not having any issue with the 533 divider and would assume its got something to do with your ram? Have you tried bumping your command rate to 2T?
there is no command rate option in the bios to change, its always T1.
I am struggling on what to do at the moment, i will go to the shop tomorrow. Do i pick up another motherboard ie the gigabyte one above or do i get different ram to test?
Ram is alot easier to swap around then the mb. I would try it first and if possible get ahold of the crucial plain jane ddr3's they seem to work very well in all amd 785g mobos. I cant recall any 770/780/785/790 mobo vendor that doesnt have them on their qualified memory list.Quote:

I would suggest to back down your HT link to x1400. Also CPU volt seems high for that clock, back it down to 1.355, start from there. Then, I would bump up HT Ref to 260 and go from there. YOu should be able to bump NB up a notch too. Here's my current prime95 stable with 1066 2x2Gb.
This BIOS (904) overvolts the CPU. I have my NB at "auto".
bog standard crucials, nothing special.
NOEE, cant even get the board to boot without putting 1.4v through the core however its not stable, looks like its a bit of a bad chip.

this cpu likes the volts. cant get it to post at 260 at all unless core volts @ 1.525 which i dont like and it fails prime quickly even with loose timings on 533 div. Around 90% stable at 250 htt with 1.5V, bit unhappy with that.
EDIT: been thinking, if the vcore issue is down to the cpu, i might be tempted to sell this one and pick up a 620! what do others think?
