As all other Volterra converter parts (VT1165SF, 57SF, 95SF), a single converter can be controlled by a resistor network, but when there's two or more in parallel they require a dedicated controller. Those VT243WFs are "in single channel mode" as they serve different loads (MVDDC, MVDDQ). Same config can be seen on HD4890 where there are two VT242WFs. HD4870 has only one VT1165MF, for GPU VDDC, yet there are two VT1165SFs that convert MVDDC and MVDDQ. Those VT1165SFs both have an external resistor networks to control them.

What are default 2D/3D/UVD voltages on your card? Can you please run MSI Afterburner with /i2cd,70 command line switch to capture state of your VT1165 and post it here? If different power state voltage is edited on non-reference board, it can be easily fixed by modifying the database (I'll be able to post the instructions on modifying it after seeing the I2C dump).

2d= 1.038v, 3d = 1.088v, UVD=1.00v.

with the new MSI Afterburner 1.2.0 its working fine now.

Interesting...but why 18k resistor ...? That resistor measures at 4.08k Ohms...and does not have a direct connection to ground... :shrug:

OCP mod works. Depents on the card if it helps with overclocking though.
This will give you around 3A per phase extra, which is 12A in total. So not much but just enough for that extra push. :D

Higher OCP is not possible because of the design of the volterra chip.

some pics of GPU ready for shipping..

Added total of 8x electrolytic caps and 8x SMD caps..OCP mod ready for VR as well. I installed vmeasure points for input and all output voltages as well :D

I have not figured the mod for GPUv yet..but havent got much time to play with the GPU under power either.

For finding the mod, we need to locate the point around the GPUv controller that changes resistance, when softmodding the voltage...

ie- measure everything for resistance around the control IC at stock...then use software to increase voltage...shut GPU down..repeat resistance check, looking for changes..

I have only mod'd for OCP..the rest of the mods are all capacitors.

Yes..when you change voltage via software, it seems only the 'FB' is being changed..and not the VID..as we know that changing VID also changes OCP. It stands to reason, that if only the FB pin source is being altered..then it will be the only point that has changed from stock value, once voltage has been changed....

As for the SMD caps..they are on the front side of the GPU, in the first ...on the row of SMD's closest to the copper sinks..I piggy-backed them to the existing ones...

*the 5870 has 4x input power phases for GPUv...with dual-phase ouputs..making a total of 8x output power phases for GPUv.

So if i get this right in my 5770 i should write down all the values that are connected with the FB leg of my cards I2C chip and then measure again after having changed the colts via software right????????

And for OCP mod u need to find and change the VID right?

I saw them...Where did u find them?Scavenged from dead cards?How do u know their capacity and voltage?
And why didnt u solder them in the empty spots that exist there and solder them in the existing caps instead?

I used some from old GPU's I have fried...and landing them to the empty pads is actually more difficult..the solder on the pads is freakin hard as hell..and doesnt play nice....its muchmuch easier to piggyback.

Well I was told the mem caps have made a noticeable improvement...the GPU was passed to the owner last night..and he made some prelim runs..at 1132/1400 @ 1.35v with i7 @ 4.52 ghz...wont really know about GPUv until he starts benching on LN with 1.4+ GPUv... Results are coming soon..
