Gosh, I've been away for a few months, but trying to catch up this past week. Fortunately, I caught a few of Martin's recent reviews in the last couple of days. Thanks so much for all the great work, and enjoy some well-deserved time with your kids and new interests.
I'm sure there are many who will celebrate your disappearance.
Namely the companies that want to release sup-par products and not have anyone call them on it.
Your testing will be missed, and I will always treasure my hand made Martin elbows and tees.

I'll miss your testing. After this summer I will invest in some testing equipment just checked out ebay for some of the those meters, but as of now all extra capitol is going into my new build.
And I'm sure a few who lament it as well, namely those who lose a voice trusted by the community to give good marks to a genuinely good product.Quote:

the only problem with this "Testing Stimulus" package is your work was reliable and consistent. As a whole, this community isn't either of these things.
I'm not questioning your motivation for a second, I've a similar hobby cycle, but I fear by removing all your work from the public domain, another slice of professionalism is gone. We've gone from people making their own blocks, etc, to people testing other peoples blocks, to people just accepting blocks, etc, for what they are.
I watched procooling demise, lets hope this place doesn't follow
Martin, I'm sad to see the site go, even while I did only read it just to keep up. It will be a great loss to the community and I would have hoped you had kept your reviews so another community member could mirror your work to preserve it for the ages. Your reviews might not get updated, but compare the info at your former site to the info most forums have in their wc section, your work is atleast as up to date as them ( ... ehm most actually link to or discuss your findings ).
I'm not the one I think capable of persuading you to give skinnee or anyone else a proper backup of your reviews, so I'll keep feeling sad for the loss of such a wealth of information :(

It's not too long ago that I first came across martinsliquidlab and I'm really glad I did before it went down. But whether backups of the data will ever show up somewhere else or not, I think Martin's testing will have long lasting effects for the community. I completely changed the way I do my testing after I saw how Martin did it. My test results went from vague and sometimes inaccurate to real, reproducable and (I hope) relevant.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to be inspired by Martin's testing like that. In short, Martin kicked the standards for testing up a notch (or several notches) and that is a great contribution.
I'm also sad to see that info gone. That info helped me get into watercooling, and if it hadn't been for it, I probably wouldn't have. I had saved links to many of his reviews because my new system and waterloop was literally designed around those tests. I had a word doc with URL's saved so I could refer back to it. It's a great loss to the community and to me personally as well.
I also feel for Martin, and know precisely where he is coming from. When a hobby turns into work it's not a hobby anymore, and familiy has to come first. I've been involved with hobbies myself where I was supported by companies, and it's very difficult sometimes. I know about the testing, because I've done it. Not with watercooling, but with batteries. I did love it, but I had to put in my 2 weeks notice so to speak. I explained to them why I had to take a break for awhile, and those companies are still with me today. I do help them out every once in awhile too. It's limited though.
I find it admirable that Martin loves his children, and wants to spend more time with. I also find it admirable that he wants to stay healthy and workout. Kids when they are growing up are priceless.
Martin, if you read this, I just want you to know that your info was valued, and appreciated. It will be missed. I hope you stick around the forums to give people like me and others guidelines. I do hope that you spend time with your family though, and do what you want to to enjoy life. You have brought people into this hobby, and I'm proof. I don't forget things like that either. People who do that kind of dedicated work help others, and it's a nobel thing to do.
Do what you enjoy, but I hope you don't ever become a stranger here. Just come here to hang out and enjoy your computers. You deserve it. :)
It's kinda mixed emotions. I'm sad to see valued info go, but am happy that you are doing what you enjoy.

thanks martin... good impartial testing for watercooling, with a focus on results, is hard to find...
hope your just giving up the stress of the website and will still be into watercooling... I love to see your "too much rad is nowhere near enough" builds :)
