As I said in another thread, CPU-Z is proof of nothing. You can be 99% unstable but still get a CPU-Z "verification" in. Probably the best way to answer your question about the BIOS is to redirect you to my P5Q series mBIOS thread. Lots of examples in there of how a BIOS can be improved far beyond a stock version.

anyways do you have anything specific you work on in bioses to make them better for overclocking

The biggest thing I'm looking to this BIOS for are fixing its "issues" with RAM speeds. Like my GEIL 2x1 kit that can't do its stock 1066 CL5, but can do 800 CL4 100% stable.
Others have had similar issues. So anything you can do in that respect would be awesome.
Oh and I heard from someone that Biostar would improve voltage granularity in their next BIOS for this board? Not sure when that's due out, but it might be worth waiting to mod that.
i think voltage granularity may not necessarily be only bios based fix. You would have to the right mix of hardware to be able to get finer adjustments
Well, theoretically, i guess yeah. But there is the potential that it is limited purely in BIOS. But that makes this a very hard BIOS mod and definitely something that needs to be done in-house, which is why i suggest that if the next BIOS supports it...Quote:

Guys don't butt heads! Dinos22 tested this board and his settings were helpful to a lot of people. I think he can bring a lot to the discussion.
The thing is, there are different needs for different user profiles. I personally could care less about stability other than for sub zero benching with this board. It's sole purpose in my office is high freq and 1m benching.
If Ket can bring more cpu support then I can bench more cpu with it.

CPUz does however show what this board could do already for extreme overclocking purposes (being XS and all) if you want to be anal about it but that was not my intention....
most benchers here dont test for orthos or other forms of stability .... you do know that right.....we only test stability for whatever benchmark we are using whether that is 2D (superPi) or 3d >> futuremark etc
Since you are claiming you can improve the bios for overclocking i am asking you what you are planning to improve. That is the assertion made on your part and i am asking what exactly your plan of action is......is it really that difficult to answer
I know that in the p5q bios he did alot with the memory work-ablitity wich imo is a huge issue with this board, I use it to bench but also use it for my daily use, and benching it'll do ok, but running regular apps it has some probs with, im sure this is memory related, as in the unnoficial biostar thread there are hundreds that have th same issue on this board but not on another, same here. My p35 does not have this issue at all, but this board can be much more superior that that when the figgs are worked out of the bios. Stuff like memory passing memtest but figging up all over in the o/s be it vista or xp. im having major probs with that myself i know my ram can do 1150mhz but on this board can not get past xp/vista loading screen. please dont take this or my previous comment the wrong way, im just saying the bios can be improved and KEt has proven he can make a crap bios work.
wait i just realized something, was that cpu-z screenie with multi threadiong disabled? no reason just wondering, as maybe that has something to do with my issues, is all.
THat was just disabling the second core to clock to the chip's limit, for a quick CPUZ or SPi 1MQuote:

i havent tested the P5Q boards but i am a bit surprised that there would be a lot of problems with RAM....asus usually isnt too bad with memory compatibility but its good that that worked however my reason for posting in this thread has nothing to do with general improvements in bios. My intentions have primarily been to make the BIOS work, not overclocking. Stability takes presidence in my book, and always will. At the same time due to the improvements being made to the P5Q series BIOS it was always kinda inevitable that overclocking would somewhat go through the roof. To date what I know of to be addressed in my mBIOSes are;
- Improved memory compatibility
- Memory pull-ins now work
- Improved CPU support
- Improved OCing
- Improved stability stock & OC'd
- Probably a few things I wasn't looking to fix but got fixed in the process
I never claimed to be any kind of messiah when it came to fixing up a BIOS, I just done my thing after being absolutely disgusted with the crap BIOS the P5Q series had, and to some extent still has. When I first had my P5Q Pro I could not OC on the board for crap, especially with memory, regardless of trying it with 5 different memory kits. After my BIOS modding even in the early conception and testing stages max OC memory frequencies jumped from a rather naff ~960MHz on a kit known to be able to do 1066MHz+ to 1143MHz, hardly a bad return :D
I have yet to get a crossfire bridge with a board, but I do have about 89 and 1/2 crossfire bridges and if you pay shipping (firs class, or priority whatever) I'll gladly donate it for the cause.Quote:
