I've been using 2008 RC1 for some time. I tried to load up the Adobe master suite but many of the programs wouldn't load. I'll try it again later to see which programs didn't work and things may be different in the release version.

Oooh even better that I'm going to get a free copy as well next month \o/
Definatly like to hear more on this and surely we'll be seeing more tests on it soon.
I'm building a server in a few weeks with 2008, and can't wait. I'm excited to see how well the new virtualization stuff works. I use VM's all the time for development, and need a speedy system.
Running Windows XP with 2900s in Crossfire I got 21,124 in 3DMark06, with the same rig and OCs and trial version server 2008 I got 20,169. I did not do any tweaks or changes to server 2008...
Been running 2k8 x64 since the beta stages and I am loving it. Its definitely faster than Vista and I have alost all drivers and applications working on it without any problems. Even during the RC stages when I was dual booting between 2k3 Enterprise and 2k8, I ended up using 2k8 as my main server. Not a single BSOD to date from the late beta stages.
Thanks to Technet, I have 2k8 RTM up and running for a few weeks now!
You have to use the Vista drivers on Server 2k8 with a ATi card right?
ok thanks I think I'm going to try it, I'm still hesitating between server 2008 and windows xp x64
It's a server system, it's not supposed to be faster in 3D :D
This is what I get running the crysis demo at 1400x1050, everything very high except audio. 3870 at 864/1242, e8400 at 4.2G. Seems like its a couple fps quicker then Vista, but I'll have to run it on Vista again to make sure.
I am very interested in this.
I wonder if nLite supported such thing, to remove unwanted components such as IIS and such.
there isn't really a need to ripp anything out with nlite, since the server isn't instaled with anything by default, after completing setup you actualy have to give it roles and add features which install stuff...same thing with 2003, most stuff and especialy iis dont run by default
Still gonna be slower than XP.
I saw a test that showed Pi is as fast in untweeked 08 as in fully tweek 03. ;)
but does it have dx10?
Vista is not much slower IF at all to XP for long SuperPi calculations :D
check it out >>>> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178246
once we understand tweakin with Vista it will be just as fast in shorter calculations
is the gui of Windows Server 2008 similar to 'classic windows 2000'
and how about some benches comparing workstationized 2k08 vs xp64 ?
It is to start, but you can turn things on to make it look just like Vista
vLite supports Server 2008. http://www.vlite.net/
I copied the original Vista installation files from the DVD to my hard drive, ran vLite (just as you would nLite) and dumped all the components/services I didn't need. Works great. Got my Vista install (compressed) from 2.49GB down to 1.47GB.
does 2008 include "sp1" updates?
Very interesting, will give it a try over the weekend.
