Kayl, I'm in the process of designing a new case. An enclosure(about the dimensions of the one below) is going to carry a phase change unit(by jin, thanks man!) and will be located in the interior of the case. I want to keep as much heat out of the interior of the case as possible, so I would like to add some insulation to the inside of the phase enclosure. The only idea I could come up with is a section of "sound mat"(like what is used in vehicles trunks by car stereo installers).

Do you have any recommendations on a type of thin, effective insulation?

i used this stuff i think it was 17mm or so thick.
it just foam similar to foam with silver foil on one side for heat resistance.

I just looked at the serial number, and it seems that this is the 16 one of this compressor. Layed the parts out in the case today, need to keep the low volatage wires away from the high voltages ;)

Been trying some r507/410a/290 blends but low side pressure was a little high. after a little chat with drew i have decided to go straight r507 with this condenser. I first tried single fan then went push pull fan config.
But this little condenser just couldnt handle R410a very well:mad:
maybe with the cube condenser and a longer capillary line ill try stright r410a with next build :toast:

I tried straight r410a the other day like we spoke about and not much luck. i hope you can do better than me.
0-5psi lowside had 250psi high side , but 300-350 load with 10-15psi lowside.
Specially summer time the condensing temp is higher.
I tried 2.7m to 3.3m of 0.031" as well with not much luck. Had better results with longer capillary line but still high side pressure was to extreme for my liking.
I dont think ill try straight r410a again, maybe a few squirts with r507 but thats it.
i then charged it with stright r507 and now idle 200psi and 250psi load:toast:

I managed to finally get the gfroster XE working which i had had here for months. this was the 4th different model compressor i have tried it in with no luck. i had to wire the compressor and fans manually, then start the controller after the compressor starts to stop it from tripping the gfroster and getting bad characters etc :toast:

Little mirror to check all joins just to make sure all joins done properly.

i got a new mobo last week, a P5b -E Plus, bit cheaper than a delux.
But i wouldnt recommend them to any as they are a pile of SHIITEE
They are missing a hole bunch of IC around the socket, so not phase 8 regulation, i guess to same some $$.
WEll i has at a lan and I was running 1.7vcore and 2.45 RAM and auto everything else at the time.
THis was the second time i have used the mobo on phase change.
I put a friends E6400 in there and got it to 32m stable at 4.1GHz.
so i dropped OC back to 4ghz and ran orthos and it failed.
So then i tried 3.85GHZ and ran orthos few mins and it crashed.
And the smell of smoke. SO that was the end of that, luck i hand another stock PC in the car to use for the rest of the day.
I stuck a copper block on the end of the cooler and some of the guys added small drops of water on it till we got this heeheh.
ITs regulor or what ever the IC is, is the one that you read the NB voltage off, so seems the NB was the issue?????

Get the part # off of the IC and order another one. Most IC's a fairly common. Looks like 4 soldering points, not to bad to solder.

For the 1$ it will cost you for the new regulator or whatever it is, cheap experiment. It may just live again.

I though about do that lostinspace and blankgod, but I don’t really like this mobo hey, I have only had it a week and the issues its given me might see if I can swap it at the shop and pay some more $$ and get a different mobo again.
With the vcore set at 1.7v in bios it droops to 1.6v in windows during 32m benches, then I run orthos and that droops to 1.44v which cant be good. I have only had it a weeks so RAMing it will be easy. There must be something else wrong with this mobo for the Vcore to droop that much.

Basically finished, first unit i have used the Freeze Pack Controller in a cased unit, turned out well.

Yes they are a nice size condenser.

seems the temp displays read a few c's colder as temps go lower.
just a few c's colder than real room temp.
Im yet to play with the pots, was just gonna use way is.

Kayl you need to cut the side out ofyour case..i cant believe u didnt do it before you put it together....I ended up cutting a slot on side of my Vapo to let my Ls sit underneath nice and square..i couldnt handle the Angle trick any longer eheh....

Kayl i cant wait untill you get the 3/4 Compressor and to see if you could sqeeze it into your case been looking at all your builds here it might go close??

Yeah I had plans to cut a hole in the side of the new pc case, but just havnt got around to it. The case also has a clear window side panel so will look sweet when its finished and done properly.
Lets hope we can squeeze the 3/4hp compressor into a frozen SS case along with the starting gear( run and start caps as well as the relay enclosure, it will be tough, if need I might take the start gear out of the enclosure)

Yes the idea of having the rear fan on the back of the case will give us an additional 35mm room, we need all the room we can get. The issue with the LCD isn’t the window hole, it’s the LCD mounting holes are different to my current case, you can stick the LCD to the case like I did with this unit.

Because you have the push buttons for the controller on an extended cable we don’t have to drill holes for t hose. This is actually my last case left.

i sold my QX6700, and bought a Q600 cheap for load testing. Post 152 was wprime1024 with Q6600 1.7v load testing ;)
I only got the E8500 Friday so im just having a play. Benching is half the fun of building these coolers :yepp:

When i have the access point on the suction line (this compressor has the crapy kirby connection, and its over $100 for that connection to connect to this access point.
So I have the access on the suction line.
For refrigerant lines I just use normal ones nothing special. To remove the hose I would turn the unit off and wait till suction line is at room temps and system cooled down, then remove both sides with minimal refrigerant and oil loss. this also stops the low sides access valve from getting a slow leak, which is what happens if you remove it when system cold, especially on cascades :up:

In USA we have to have low loss, but without it, with like a propane, you get quite alot of gas coming out as well as the cold.

thanxs gosmeyer, with the right mobo and ln2 this cpu should do 600+ FSB :up:

been working on another 1/2hp unit basic k-type display.
I have found a source for accumulators finally, now idle isnt an issue with popping n crackling and units tunned for 250w+. Accumulator is around 17cm long, little big but it really does the trick.
Load with a Q6600 at 1.7vcore wprime 1024m was -41c, -45c idle :clap:
temps just after the accumulator at load was -27c.
seems the longer i benched the colder it got :yepp: cant complain

yeah origally it was, but i ended up changing it for a bigger one.
liquid line at load was a little hot and needed the extra air flow to keep discharge pressure down ;)
pity cause i got 20 of them sent in the other day. might have to try push pull setup next unit :up:

yes you're right.. I've tried 25mm thick fans, with same flowrate as my 38mm, but if you check datasheet you will see that the 38mm ones has alot more potential to force true a condenser due to it has alot higher push/pull capacity.

This is simple procedure my friend, After you are don charging you close off the tank, then you turn off the discharge service port valve, then you open your high side manifold valve, then slowely open the low side manifold valve and allow the system to pump out your hoses. If you front seat the suction service valve you can actualy pull your hoses right down to 0psi.

Figured it out already, however he does not have a valve on the highside to close off the schraeder or such.

correct, i normally have one have it on there for the iniatal charge when load testing in the shed. then when finished turn the cooler off and wait till she cools down then take gauges off (high side) when pressure alot lower. i take suction hose off when system is running and in positive pressure and loose almost no gas.
WHen tunning inside and doing small tweaks just use low side gauge/hose and not bother with the high side. i know max high sider pressure when i give the cooler 270w :yepp:

Just making a guess on width here, and god I wish I had more of those cubers, is Drew still selling em? But rotate that condenser 90 degrees, do push pull across the condenser from side to side of the tray, and you should get a bit more room to pipe :)

I think drew is starting to run low on them. Maybe after he sold kayl all of these he decided to wait a bit...

yeah last i spoke he has a few, not sure how many though.
the condenser 90 degrees is a great idea fresh air in and hot air straigh out of the case, went very well in drews units, i was thinking of trying one, but my cases arnt quiet suit as there isnt enough breather holes in the side :(

Speed fan reads idle core temps correct it seems.

How could you get the (on-boards to read)?=Accuratly
I could only get about -2c or so.

Had to go by the vapochills software and my Fluke88.
Both were close to the same, aorund -40 to -35c.

I run the Q66 and it doesnt have the DTS errors that the
45nm wolfies have?

I had to mount my temp probe on the top of my IHS as i didnt want to mill it out.
Its not small/flat enough for that.

Here is a pic i took for another member who is/was thinking of buying it.
If i could hold the probe closer (too cold) it would report within 2c or so of the vapo software.

I think it depends on the motherboard to how well they can read the die temps. Try downloading the latest speed fan maybe. I have tried 2 different E8500's on this mobo and they seem to read about correct. BUt in other motherboards i had noticed temps change from board to board.

THe vapors cheap though and read temps from the suction line leaving the cpu head and not at the base of the block. :shakes:

could you guess the wattage its holding at -42c?

great units... those temps are insane! and is the cpu temp way off or do you have a incredible evap/mount :p:

230w is -38c, load tester not insulated though

Thanxs, its r404a and shot of r290. THere isnt much gas in this unit as it floods with idle on these wolfdale cpus.
Havnt been doing much laterly as its winter here so making these things at night in the shed is a little cold. But with the cascde build on the way should keep busy. I also bought 4 mach2's so will be making some new cases for those and a work over on those units in time :yepp:
THinking new longer cases will work nice with a cube condenser and push pull fans :up:

3/4hp frozen ss phase change cooler with the gsmaster controller. will run push pull fans on the condenser :)
Unit will be tuned with Core i7 either a 920 or a 940 not sure yet

All units now need a suction line accumulator so that at idle the compressor doesn’t freeze, then at load with hyper threading enabled there is enough refrigerant to hold the load of these heatmonsters ;)

With the gsmater controller there are some smarts that monitor the pc voltage
The molex plug is connected to the pc power supply, if the power supply was to shut down 10seconds later the controller shuts down the cooler and the pc for safety reasons
When yor press the pc power button that starts the cooler, when the cooler reaches the boot temperature it automatically starts the pc. The boot temperature and shut down temperate can be set through the gsmaster controller.
if the pc is overclocked really high using a very high voltage, if the set shut down temperature is reached the controller makes a beeping noise as a warning, then when critical temperature is reached the pc is shut down as well as the cooler automatically for safety reasons.

• Gigabyte X58-UD5 F4 bios
• Intel Core i7 920 retail chip 3837A902
• 3x1GB 1800MHz CAS7D DDR3 Corsair Dominators
• 1GB Gigabyte GTX280 Graphics Card (AIR)
• 1000W Silver Stone PSU
• Windows XP Pro 32bit SP2

Insulating with faber-Castell Art erasers ensured a air tight socket. My first run with normal insulation I got some condensation inside the socket after a few hours :( The 1366 socket is a lot bigger and its very hard to insulate with the erasers to ensure the socket is air tight.

Wprime 1024Mb runs the PC was measuring 455w power draw from the mains socket using 1.48v @4434MHz 186sec. Hyper threading turned off power draw was only 370W and a fair bit slower even with the higher clocks: 4576Mhz @1.53v 260sec.

For 3dmark similar thing, a lot hotter running hyper threading but not much difference in score overall. Hyper threading gave a better result at a lower overclock.

amazing what spare parts can do, that case is actually from the first cascade design a few years ago, was the HX section of the cacade with the cascade sitting ontop ;)

Well I got 4.545GHz on my Q6600 when I first gave it a shot, but I didn't get a chance this time so its going to be a while before I have time again. Next time I'm aiming for 4.7GHz (yes I have a really good Q6600). I only got 4.94GHz on me E8500 cause my UD3R (which i'd only got 1 day before I started benching) had a c*** FSB wall, but since i'v gone back to air i'v flashed the BIOS and its all good again :) same story for my E5200.

re did the insulation this time no erasers on the gpu card as it was sweeting too before

found the vmod on XS, but it didnt increase my overclock at all
stock was 1.068v, at 1.25v the system wasnt clocking as well
stock
stok load voltages were 1.2v
seem colder temps reflected better oc than increase in volts
love to see this card on ln2.
i also tried the evga software vmod which SHOWED correct voltages at idle, but load volts dropped back stock @ 1.2v no matter what i set it to.
so vmod is the only true voltage increase for this card :mad:
