hey gs tech what is the best tref for a starting point?? i am useing 1552 15.6us for now it works ok. i am having alot of trouble getting past 260ish using your settings and only really stable at stock speed 3-4-4-8 @ 250mhz can you give some advice and what bios is optimal for this ram?

Well this is my first post in this forum so i,ve giving some resutls here.
I,ve done some 3dbenching with my G.Skill 2GiB PC4000 and I managed to get this stable. I,ve recently got this config so the score and so on might not be@it's best. Everything is stock cooled. Im just waiting for my waterblock to arrive.

My settings are 285*9 is at 2.6V | LDT 3 | core 1.45 @ 110% | LDT V 1.5 | Chipset V 1.6
If I lower to 280*9 I can use LDT 4..
Both of these are 200 1/01 so no dividers in this.

I forgot to mention.. I am going H20 as of today so I may be down for a day or two while I prep and test then begin benching. I am hoping to go above 300 on H20 but my CPU may be holding me back. I am going to order a new 3000+ hoping to get one that will get me above 300 though. Although I hope this little sucker can get me to 300 at least. Either way this turned out to be a good little processor.. too bad I will have to retire it. LOL
Im getting memtest errors @250 3-4-4-8 but 3d is stable it seems.
Which test are you getting errors in? Run test #5.. if it is a memory issue, then that is the indicator. Anything else usually points to other hardware/software. Also, what are your system specs?
Hi, me with my gskills 2gb pc 4000 have not succeeded has overcome the 255 . :(
Above the 255 memtests test 5 me for a long time of the errors to the second passage ..... I have tried another cpu but the result it doesn't change.
Made test with various bios ...... I think is the unlucky rams ...

I have had the best luck with the 704-2BTA bios on the DFI NF2 Ultra D.. On the 623 and 510 bioses I had problems going above 250. Mind you that the 704-2BTA is not an official bios and can void your warranty. That said, we are overclocking so by nature we are just one big voided mess anyways. :)
If you read my sig, you can see what I have my voltages set at.. also what LDT are you using? If you are trying x4 it may not work. I just got lucky and I can run my memory at the settings they are at without dividers etc.
I really cannot go back and check any of my settings in detail anymore becuase I am in the process of setting up my rig for watercooling. I have to wait until at least Wednesday before the GPU water block arrives, I was hoping to be up and running at latest this weekend but I decided at last minute to include the GPU in the mix as well so I am down for six days. :(

With either BIOS (623-3 or 702-2BT) one stick doesn't pass 255 and the other doesn't pass 265, so I am stuck at 255. I tried both slots (orange and yellow and in yellow I can't pass 255 with any of the sticks. My CPU reaches 310 stable.

in your case, i'd say yes.
mine seems pretty stable at 250 with stock timings, but i really can't go much higher. this ram has been pretty dissapointing thus far. plus i've read other people not being OC much with these :(
I,ve tried some settings this weekend, and I was able to get it stabile in 265mhz@test #5, it passed like 20 times with no errors. Then I tried if it was prime stabile etc and it was.

The memory seems to become very very hot, if you have active cooling on them 270 shouldn´t be a problem to pass.
P.S I know there is a program called SP2004 GO that stress test's the memory in windows. Does anyone know where I can download it? :woot:

I managed to the me mem stable@270x10 @memtest #5 but it only passed 2 tests. I believe the memory needs active cooling.
Runs hot for you? Really? How many volts are you running through them? I never remember mine being hot at all at 280.. I have run them as high as 2.8V but found no difference in my OC at 2.6V so I have maintained that voltage.Quote:

You mean the standoffs that mount the board to the case? Yes, I have some that came with my CM Stacker case that are longer than normal. I would think you should be able to find those online somewhere?? The only concenr I would have is whether or not that will make the motherboard sit too high and you cannot fit your graphics card or other cards. Also how would that affect the location of your back panel? It won't line up right if it is too high up.
I noticed a huge difference in Battlefield 2 with the 2GB of memory. Later this week when I have my computer back together I will get some memory benchmarks. I have to wait on my GPU waterblock to arrive before I can put everything back together again. :)
For 2GBHZ, or UCCC Chip, they don't need too much voltage to run. or said 2.5~2.7 is good enough to max it. For Overclocking we need some fans to cooling it of cuz. :)

I have not even thought to pump more than 2.8V into this memory. I actually bought it because my other memory needed a lot of voltage and in my new build with my DFI NF4 I did not have as good a location to actively cool my ram. I have tried 2.7~2.8 and really did not notice much of a difference in my situation so I left it at that. I cannot get above 280 without errors, maybe juicing it above 2.8V would solve the problem but again, I do not want to run bleeding hot voltages through memory again if I don't have to.
G.Skill Tech, I don't mind offering help.. I am just passing along my personal experiences hoping it can help someone else possibly troubleshoot a problem and get them going. :)
Well, after playing around with this mem another 2hrs today, and trying each stick individually i found that i really can't OC these. With both sticks in at 3-4-4-8 I can't get memtest stable past 255mhz. :(

Sorry I have not posted anything in a while. I took everything apart the week before last to set up the watercooling and I just got back up and running although it looks like I am modding the pump for more performance. I wish I would just leave things alone that aren't broken. LOL

Nice voltage.. keeping the heat down. Once I mod the pump I hope to run some cooler temps. What sucks is it gets hot here being that the computer room is in the loft. It gets toasty warm up here in the afternoon and into the night. Florida sucks. At least the hurricane on my doorstep will keep things cooler for the next few days. I may not have a place to live if the roof is ripped off though. hehe

The only settings i have are 3-4-4-8 in the Bios, the rest is auto. I want to know the best settings for 250 Mhz.. for Maximum performance... and how can i let them run with 275 Mhz or more? Somebody ideas?

I lowered mine as well to 2.5V and it runs hella cool now! Then again at 2.6V it did not feel warm to the touch at all. I was benching my new ATI card last night and was playing for about two hours and not so much as a hiccup from the memory. You all may want to take JCGhz's lead and try this for yourself. :) Thanks for the heads up man, I would have never thought of undervolting them as mine runs stable and cool at stock voltages.Quote:

Since Newegg is out of stock of the 2GB HZ sets, is there any reason for me to not just get 2 single 1GB HZ modules in regards to warranty/support? They should run just as good in dual-channel and have just as good of a chance at overclocking performance as the 2GB sets, correct?
The only thing wrong with buying two separate 1GB sticks is your OC may suffer. Reason is since dual channel kits are "supposed" to be two identically matched sticks they will perform very similar in terms of voltage response and subtimings. If you have two random sticks one might perform better at 2.6v and the other at say 2.8v, hence your max OC would suffer. I would wait or find some place else for a dual channel kit, but that's just me. ;)

I just received my Gskill ram a couple days ago and have been playing with different setting prior to finding this post. I bounced around the DFi forums and they suggested the 704-2bt bios for this ram since it's the best all around bios.
Anyway I was playing around with setting like 2.5-3-3-7 and so on able to run windows without any problems. As long as my CPU wasn't overclocked past 250 I was able to pass 32mb Superpi. If I start to bump of the CPU then it's back to 3-4-4-8. I played around with the 166 divider at 9x317 and was able to post a 27m10sec superpi 32mb score. Tomorrow I will be trying to get this stuff a little higher 1:1. I know my CPU has the balls to do 2.85 and beyond, it's just trying to find the sweet spot for the ram. The closer to 1:1 the better.
Anyhow for those having problems with the ram. You really can't beat its potential seeing as how I just sold my OCZ PC3200 Platinum sticks that wouldn't go past 213. This stuff at least has a little more playing room for less money. :clap:

Looks nice.. if you are willing to lose a little on the high end, I have been able to run at 1/01 without any problems as high as 280*9. I have been running at 270*9 1/01 with the ram at 2.5V for the last three days and have had no problems at all.Quote:

Give that 270*9 1/01 LDT 3 a shot. I have mine at 2.5V but 2.6V was what I benched it at without problems. I did get as high as 280*9 1/01 but then I was adding more volts to the CPU etc which was something I am not too keen on. I prefer lower MHZ and less heat over higher MHZ and more heat. That is just me though. :) Also I kept the settings at 3-4-8-4, everything else on auto.
using divider is not only testing a memory, but also stressing your CPU. either one of them is a bit no good will fail to run. :)

Personally, I do not like to use a divider, even if it will allow me to clock higher. I am just finicky that way. It was meant to run 1/01 and that is the way I like it. :)
ok I will try and get away from using the 166 divider and run 1:1.. I just can't seem to find any settings to that like 1:1 at higher freq.
Update: Trying some stuff but I seem to have hit a wall at 269 1:1... I know it has to be something simple...

Well I'm going to try a different bios and if that doesn't help I'm going to retire this memory. Not sure what I was smoking but there is no running much higher then 263mhz for me with this ram and still get the occasional BSOD while playing games...

Thank you gskill tech. Before reading this tread the highest BF2 stable was 250 with memory settings on auto. I used your settings that you previously posted (twtr 2). One question, bios 704-2BT doesn't have dram drive strength 7 listed what should I use auto?

I actually have mine at 2.5V.. my performance did not suffer and the system runs fine.
I couldn't pass 250Mhz at any volts without a fan over the sticks.
I set them, and I got to 280Mhz wothout errors. :)
I would be quick to say that I find that to be strange. At 2.5V they do not even get warm to the touch. I wonder why that is happening?? Does anyone else have heat issues with this ram?

I have also G-Skill ram, i got them because my 2x512mb OCZ4000 VX broke down, and then i thought that 2x1GB could be fun.
So i have been playing arround with these ram, i know that my max on my cpu is 2921Mhz, so the drill was to get so close to that as i could.

OK I take back my previous comment... I just did a pc overhall adding a GPU waterblock, Video vmod, an active cooling on my ram and PWMIC. So I figured I would check and see if there was an improvement with the ram and I guess I didn't have enough air flow over the ram before. Still testing but now I'm able to at least get 1:1 up to 270. Try and go 275 and I get a system corruption error. So I'm going to settle with a divider for now. Try lowering the V on the ram. I am down to 2.5 and I am still able to hit 280 @ 1/01. Otherwise our voltages are more or less the same. I will take a screen for you when I get home. My chipset temp is lower though. Try modding the chipset fan, it makes a noticeable difference, that may do the trick for you.
Did anyone tried to peek sideways on the sticks? There is almost no contact beteween the thermal tape and the chips, i would say a 1/4 of contact surface. Just look at them against a light or white wall. I still don't have my system running but i don't know if i should remove the heatspreaders. Maybe after i verify if they can function just in case i need the warranty. I think for people trying to overclocking them to the max, pointing a fan with the heatspreaders on the sticks has limited impact.
UCCC 2GBHZ has very low temp, not really needs a fan. but it is always a good idea to have one :)

Maybe not at stock speeds... But you surely have noticed The thermal tape doesn't even cover half of the chips, maybe a third... The heatsink acts more like a cage in that matter... I can see the gap beteween the aluminium and the chips.Quote:

Good question.. I have to tear down later this week when my new processor arrives so I will take advantage of that and give them a closer inspection. Honestly though, mine do not run hot. I can tell you at 2.5V they don't really feel warm to the touch. I have checked on occasion as I am really big on having my components run cool. Although I do not have a fan blowing on the ram directly, I have a CM Stacker case with the crossflow fan so there is some air being blown on them.. pics included.
If you are not familiar with the set up on a CM Stacker, the crossflow fan is the black object that runs the length of the motherboard just to the right of the motherboard. It takes outside air and blows it over the components. I normally run the fan on medium speed, this has proven to give me a 2~4c drop in temps on the PWMIC.. the chipset has its own cooling so there is not drop in temps there that I have noticed when checking MBM5 or Smartguardian. I am sure the ram benefits some as air is being blown over them but I really do not monitor ram temps as I am undervolting them as it is plus I have not noticed they get warm.

Perhaps because you're not really feeling them but the aluminium heatspreader that is not touching the RAM chip because it only has a stripe of tape (2mm wide) on the lower part of the stick near the slot edge. If your sticks are equal to mine (since their are the same product) you'll see (without removing nothing but the stick from the motherboard), that the there is almost no contact with them. Now that i'm thinking, even the thermal probes that come with my case fit in there!!!, i can (eventually) test the temperatures (the real temperatures, not the temperature of the aluminium heatspreaders that do not make contact with the chips!!)Quote:

what i want to try is to have no intake fans, just fans driectly over the components and direct vent to the ouside, thiis alone would create lack of pressure inside the case making air entering by the holes in other places. PS2: I've noted your using a Beta Bios, I'm still deciding what Bios will i use. The 623-3 or the 704-2BT. I've seen people not doing very well mixing the 704-2BT and gskill memories ,BSODs and stuff. Still figuring it out. You seem have the highest overclock using it tought.

cover 1/3, 1/2 or full cover, more coverage will result worse temp increase. we test direct from chip not from heatspreader. when IC cover 1/3, it still have so air direct flow through between IC and heatspreader. that is the best we can do with heatspreader. full cover and 1/3 or 1/5 or even 1/10 is "same price" for our cost! like the heatspreader, the cost of that is very very low but why we need it? it is for the "eyes candy". G.skill always does temp test before we give out our product. that why we were the only company didn't use heatspreader for TCCD such expensive IC.
Soooo.. Can we take the heat spreaders off to get better air flow over the chips... I took mine out to put my 1gig PC4400 Gskill TCCD sets back in for some testing and I see what lusonico is talking about...

After all the issues with my last modules I wasnt expecting such immediate results..booted first time with the N4D702-3 (oskar wu beta) bios! I ran some early tests and found it was stable@200x11. Upping the fsb to 250 need some adjustments though. In the bios I had to set the dram signal strength to 1, and the read preamble to 5. This was then tested in memtest, test 5 and looped with no errors for half an hour. Upping the fsb even more I hit a ceiling at 285!!! At this point I found out the these modules actually like more voltage, I got 100+ errors in memtest test 5 @2.5v, but at 2.75v I got only 10. Id like to say at this point that the modules dont really get hot just barely warm to the touch, even with more volts. 285 was not stable though and after much testing Ive settled on 271x10 @2.75v 3.4.4.8. Ive tried to get the TRCD and TRP to 3 but its a no go, as is the CAS to 2.5, but that would only be useful at 200 or 250, not max oc. The settings Ive found that effected the stability the most where voltage, TREF, Read Preamble and Drive strength. Ive seen people get to 280+ with just 2.5v but mine dont like that.
Im amazed at the difference between these and my old corsair dimms, not only do they do a higher fsb but theyre alot easier to tweak - and of course theyre twice the capacity!

^^ Nice work, are you running that at 1/01 1T or are you using a divider? I just received my 3500+ so if I can reach 280 like I did before on the x11.. I would be breaching 3000 with that CPU. I have my fingers crossed that the memory controller on this chip is as good as the 3000+ I just retired.
So far, with the new CPU I have reached 245*11 without any changes to the memory settings other than setting it to 1/01 CPC Enable and 3-4-8-4.. also I lowered them to 2.5V. I tried for 250 this morning before heading off to work but it did not boot, I am also running at stock voltage on the CPU so I am sure I need to raise that to compensate for the higher OC. I will post results of course as I get them.

yes theyre 1:1 and 1T. Its only taken around 6 hours to get them to max oc, wheras my old corsair dimms took over 2 weeks! much easier to tweak.Quote:
