nice to see some competition, was so alone with my results on the DP67BG :D
any word about power limitation?
Awesome! Thanks so much for the work and updates in that regards, has been really more than helpful and also reassuring.
I would really not have felt too comfortable having to go with the rather unflashy Intel Burrage to mate my 2600K with. I am currently only waiting for a decent board (another 2600K and P8P67 Dlx is already here as well) and had been most intrigued by the M4E. The PLL override however indeed pulled me towards the Burrage or even the UD7 (with them reporting to having the feature easily available in newer Bioses as well). Maybe I am just a little leaps and bound.. You have definitely helped there a lot though!:clap:
Now the next question remains: swapping my 5870 to a 580 or upgrading with another 5870 to not hold back the CPU power (as having read in a couple of reviews already)? :D
Also a related Q to the M4E (as it's featured in this OC guide): I have an Auzentech HD PCIe x1 sound card and a RevoDrive X4 (PCIe obviously as well). Which slots would I have to populate to make the best use of the available lanes? Also especially if/when running Crossfire: my understanding is that the 1st slot would then run at a native x8 speed, the 2nd GFX slot at x16 through the nf200 and the RevoDrive x4 (on a x16 nf200 link, so also through the nf200). Correct? I assume the board cannot differentiate between GPU and other PCIe device, can it?
thanks works fine on Pro on AIR :D

Testing singlestage maybe in some minutes :)
Ok so which one of you geniuses is going to be the first one to show this beast at max 57 multi?:D
SoF´s CPU is really good... i think with 1.6v or a little bit more is 5.7GHz possible.
I hope it works under cold.
I tested a 2500K retail on Biostar TP67XE and ASRock P67 Pro3 under Single Stage. No damn way to get as high as on air..
I don´t think that LN2 will do a good job. Tried dice a few days ago with Chri$ch. But no way to get the same result as on air.
SoF, Multi 56 possible? I can´t boot even on 1.65V
http://www.abload.de/thumb/superpimcm5.jpg
No, at the moment just with enabled HT. Will try later this night. Need to install a new os with some benchmarks installed.
nice, nice, nice! It will be fun with aircooling
Show me guys some nice Cinebench R11.5 chllenge ,-).
Check if there is a fixed bios version for your board?
Here's a list with fixed bioses: http://91.121.148.119/downloads/BIOS/
I'm not an intel guy but saw it on the hwbot forum, not sure if my post is helpful.
I will wait for the Biostar Bios with the OC unlock feature.
Looks like that the D2 runs better than the D1...
I wanna use all ram slot to get 16GB, and oc'ing to 5 GHz. What kind the cooler do i need and the ram to fulfill my pan on P67 boards?
The 1055 board ram slots seems very narrow to CPU cooler. Looks like SB just need low profile cooler since Anand said intel stock will do 4.5 GHz oc'ing.
The 3rd party cooler like MUX-120 or Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme has 47 height clearance, 2-6mm dimm obstruction (others less i believe), there's no way i can put 4 sticks 52mm tall dominator ram there.
Can i put Team Extreem LV 2000 there? or what kind memory do you suggest?

Ok, Biostar did their job also with a new bios.
It will be soon available, i just got a message :-)

Yes.
ok, so what does this mean in terms of out over clocking the x58 series?
running at 5 ghz..is this better than say a 975 running at 5 ghz?

awesome thread! vote for sticky in the intel section :) :toast:
the marketing stuff is a bit annoying, but oh well  :D
there's gotta be a way to get past the sub zero issues.
Yeah its rad to get 5 ghz on 20c but there must be a way to trick the damn thing somehow. Does anyone have the Intel sandy whitepaper cpu pin diagram that shows all the points and what they do?
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...modcompare.jpg
Anyone have a silver conductive pen?
OCM

techdocuments can you find at ark.intel.com, sandy bridge is listed ;)
thanks man. this is what I was looking for.
has anyone screwed around with a conductive pen yet? any trial and error?
Is anyone else working on figuring this thing out or want to contribute how to go about this? Do you think a pin mod will fix this issue or is it a lost cause?
Has anyone been in touch with Hicookie?
sxs112 nice guide. yeah I agree with saaya this is sticky material.
Chri$ch
Could not find any DS with pin outs you posted. Can you show, if it's public info? :)
There is no PEG RBIAS pin on SB package, which help on Clarks/Lynns 1156.
But there are other compensation pins, like PEG_ICOMPI, PEG_ICOMPO, PEG_RCOMPO.
Anyway, I'm almost sure that cold issues have different origin than was on 1156 CPU's. Maybe it's SA or ringbus wastes cold play, etc.
I uplodaded the Sandy Bridge datasheet (volume 1) here. Have a look at 8, "Processor Pin and Signal Information".
Thanks!
Do you have volume 2? Might have a proper voltage limit table in there.
I could only find this:
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...e_voltages.png
Looks like the only valid info is vCore, vDIMM and vPLL. Not sure what the hell vCCSA is...
Also, 1.52V max vCore means that SB can take much higher vCore than Gulftown and Clarkdale 24/7 (1.4V for them), means people can push these chips higher not worrying too much about them dying.
doc is up on intel site ;)
http://www.intel.com/products/processor/corei7/#docs
http://download.intel.com/design/pro...hts/324642.pdf
@zalbard:
That 1.52V is not an actual safe voltage, just the maximum voltage that can be represented in the new SVID encoding, with 5mv steps instead of the 6.25mv in older CPUs. You can confim that by checking the SVID table in section 7.4, that coincides exactly with the 0.25V - 1.52V range in the table you posted.
For those who use the Sandy Bridge cpu's already... what kind of temps do you see on air?
Wait, so is 1.575 v the max safe voltage for RAM?
any chance to get the fix for D1(ES) ??
the 2600k of mine do 5200MHz HT ON rock solid 1,40VCORE (real), i think can do more but over 5200 no post eheh
Quote from anand, not sure how true this statement is though
Quote:
980X (32nm) chip has a maximum voltage of 1.375V
975 (45nm S1366) has a maximum voltage of 1.375V
880 (45nm S1156) has a maximum voltage of 1.400V
This means at most the safest voltage on SB will be 1.400V, but most likely well below that. I would wager 1.350V. This is why all these 1.45-1.50V 5.2ghz overclocks are only for e-peen.
Think about it...1.45V is already way out of spec for a 45nm chip, nevermind 32nm
I will test it and share it soon :)Quote:
Dear Thomas,
Here you are.
Try to reach 5.4MHz this weekend! J
Attached please find the latest beta BIOS for P67A-GD65 & P67A-GD55
The 174 version BIOS update,
1. Add SATA hot plug item in BIOS setup.
2. Add Internal PLL Overvoltage ITEM.
ASRock Bioses with Override PLL option are incoming.
I got a message and will test them soon:up:
i have overvoltage FIX PLL on my MSI but nothing changed in OC with my D1...
ASRocks P67 Pro3 and the other Boards of them have now a new bios available on their website with the fix.
Here is my P67 Pro3 running x51.

1.55v seems crazy high and 1.45v is even high, I have read other articles saying can use low idle multiplier with 45x turbo multipler on auto voltage or just 1.3v.
Did the author of the article just go straight to 1.45v assuming that was needed or try a lower voltage first?
D2 FTW :D
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1579912
4.8 => 5.2 with PLL overvoltage (but need too much vcore :()
they can hit 4.8ghz with auto everything but multiplier. .
