pick R3E
Criminal - UD5 booting is easy to fix ; set any unused channel in standard cmos to none, now I think all is set to auto. The same problem I have some time ago with UD7. All to none, and only this channel what You use to auto ;)
UD9 or R3E - my vote go for R3E, or maybe R3F ?
thanks DEVIL K-ce
here is Yokos R3E ;)

bios 0901 i think
bclk wall at 155MHz
Oh my!
lol @ the 57.000 V
This is a hell of cpu:eek:
Congratz my old friend:)
whauuuuu, nice Criminal, now, better than impressive result :) ! Really good chip 990x! U will not need SB for overclocking now ,-)
nice criminal, looks like from what you and others have said, we are in for a treat with some 990X.. perhaps only some original A0 are still better than these chips
I still cannot believe on those temps lol
OH YOKO!!!
You put us to shame. :yepp:
Ummm... Wow! Nice! I can never get good CPUs. I always get stuck with average clockers or CPUs that only like super low temps and clock like crap on air and water.
As for the thread title - from the 80s movie "Clash of the Titans" there are two lines - One is "Let loose the Kraken" and the other is "Release the Kraken". I always say "Let loose the Kraken!" before releasing MY demi-god to me lady friend. LOL!
when it is released, I'll be the 1st person buying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear!!!!!!!!!!
suhweeet! :toast:
this what i waited 2+ years to upgrade to and intel sure is taking their time to release it
we are waiting for more benchmarks and pics...
wanna know how this does beat i7 980x
I believe 990x has something improved comparing to 980x
because 980x was launched in March 2010,
990x will be released in January 2011
10 months, almost a year.... can make a difference
come on! i7 990x retail !!!!!!
hope the price will be $1299 or higher,
i'm pretty sure more expensive equals more performance
hi guys, we will run again as soon as possible ;)
we need to have some fun with all of these expensive hardware

This chip is pure binning. Intel's doubtlessly stockpiling the choicest chips for this new grade. What's puzzling is why they're sitting on them for so long. Likely reason is that the volumes of chips at this bin just aren't there, as well as the fact that a significant number of these top chips are being made into Xeon X5690s.
I'd be willing to bet that date codes on the eventual retail chips will show most of the CPUs were made many months before launch day.
True, but the fact that Intel has not launched these CPUs yet suggests something more. They probably would launch these chips (990x and X5690) at an even higher price point than the 980x and X5680 to maximize profit if they had sufficient yield at this new bin level to support this launch. The delay in launch suggests that they don't yet have this level of yield, making the delay necessary for Intel to accumulate sufficient stock at this bin level ensure adequate supply.
My $0.02...;)
980Xs are binned to a certain level. Chips that do better are binned at 990X. The 990X should include all chips that bin at the new level and above, including the uber chips that bin well above top bin. These uber chips often end up as early ES chips (the ones that we are seeing now). How many retail chips end up doing likewise is indeed anyone's guess. We'll have to wait until retail chips become available to begin to make conclusions on the 990X.
In addition, it's reasonable to assume that yields have improved somewhat over the course of the year with more and more CPUs binning higher. The maximum level that a binned chip has achieved has doubtlessly increased over the course of the year.
do you have proof they are binning good 980x's as 990x? or just speculating

ln2 ;)
dbp
Work for an intel partner. As such cooling and all other goodies must remain shushed. All I can say is... MUCH better than 980x
Andy
OMG!!!!!11!11!11 I WANTS IT!
Oh wait, ln2 with 1.4v. Need more volts noob :p:
Perhaps you shouldn't be showing screenshots of a CPU that you are under NDA for then? Was always given the impression when under NDA that it was a all or nothing sort of game. Kids these days..
And what this??? ,-)

And think, its real, i heard about 995x ....think Q1 or Q2 2011
The 990X is just that, a good 980X. It has to be a better chip than the 980X to meet validation requirements at the higher clock speed. What you want, and what most people who shell out for one of these chips are after, is one of the uber chips that bins at a higher level than whats required for the top bin (990X). The odds of someone getting one of these chips by buying a 980X is very low (at least at this point in time) and much better when buying a 990X when its released.
why not 999X ? lol
1.4v 5ghz heh
Me likes... and wants one 990x :D
Happy Birthday to the PcCI2iminal :D
Are we having a party today?
Very nice CPU, congrats
About 980X < 990X
I think it's the same thing, B1 stepping is B1 stepping. We can compare it to i7 930 and i7 950 or i7 960. Every piece of CPU overclocks differently, how many i7 920 D0 we saw that overclocked on air/water MUCH better than i7 975XE?
For example, my new i7 980X 3031A242 overclocks on air with stock cooling from i7 975 (the old one) to 4.8 GHz 3Dmark06 stable on 1.413v.
[QUOTE=subaruwrc;4632011]okay we don't know its a 990X ES[/QUOTE
990X is old news !!! check the new 995X :D rated at 3.6Ghz stock
Not a lot of info on 995x. I wonder if it will ever make it to retail channels. Funny, a lot of the search links are broken, or image removed...hummmm. Someone doesn't want us to know, lol!
What's the logic behind tow new EX-chips on top of 980x?.
A 990x was strange enough, but one could hope for a better stepping/biding could justify it. With a 995x on top of that, it doesn't make any sense. Something fishy seams to be going on.
Can't wait until the hexacore cpus come down to a more reasonable price...but this chip is a step in the right direction.
995X o_O
waiting for 999x @ 3,99GHZ stock :horse:
1000X is need -.- what the hell
whit no CB/CCB
Kraken's twin
http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/4555/w3690.jpg
glad i havent waited any longer for these 990x/995x krakens
24/7 air cooled 980x
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8811/55543695.png
the 990 and 995 are only B1, which just makes them a rebadged 980X.
995x @@
This is really strange, now we have 3 chips, 990x and 995x on top of 980x, all unlocked and with same stepping.
I bet 990x got some improvements (better bindings), but I'm wondering how 995x fit into this. Is it spoused to have even better binding?
This doesn't make any scene to me.
funny i think new 980x will got some benefit from 990x
995x? i dont think i believe those screenys... 980x n 990x sure but now 995x?
wow... that is some serious speed there.. too much money for me though... i am stuck on my i5 750 rig and out of work atm..
hey movie i met a old Cisco guy a while back... i radiant heated his Ferrari barn.. he had like 15 of them suckers in every flavor on one side of the barn and a bunch of hot rods on the other side.. even had one of the Schumacher championship race cars in there.. what a amazing place to be..
http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/3584/995xes.jpg
P.S. i don't have this cpu. picture was just stolen from other source.
Just got mine... love it

Were you guys getting these from? where can i buy?
they are chosen to test them
im confused whats better a higher buss speed or a higher core speed?
everyone seems all over the charts.
i just got my new 980x and dont know which is better.
It depends on your situation.
My understanding is raising the BCLK (bus speed) raises the speed of the entire system (cores, imc, memory, etc). If what you want to do is bandwidth limited you want to do a BCLK overclock. This does put more "strain" on all of the computers subsystems. If however, if you use you computer for applications that are not bandwidth limited then raising the multiplier is fine. With triple channel memory, the x58 platform has pretty good bandwidth without overclocking the rest of the CPU. I believe a good example of a non-bandwidth limited program is Folding@home or WCG (world computing grid). The don't move really large blocks of data but do a lot of fp (floating point) type of calculations. I'm sure someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.
To aid the discussion, could you explain more what you plan to do with your computer (the types of applications you plan to run).
i play wow couple hours a night. F@h the rest and while i play.
and ill proabbly play the new starwars mmo when it comes out.
i bought this cpu to F@h with.
When are these released?
February, I think...
Amazing Criminal ;)
( Portuguese comment: Incrivel ! Parabens aí pelo trabalho! Abraço de Portugal )
LOL loved the topic name ;) :D
(Mais um parabéns em português, do Brasil!)
@topic what a destroyer chip. I'm aiming for the 970, the only that fits on my pocket atm :(
I received mine the other day.. So far looking good. :yepp:
you received a 990x or a 995x i am waiting for the 995x
soon 980x will be buyable soon. maybe? 970's are what 550? make a couple hundred in a month and a 980x will soon be with you. or Xeon's FTW
Do you mean the 980X price will drop? I don't think so. Maybe you can get some OEM or second hand from eBay a little cheaper though (like 450-600 €).
You guys buying these chips retail in Europe? If so thats good, means they will be available world-wide soon. Is there really going to be a 990x and a 995x? Only difference being a 100Mhz or so difference?
