I don't think the end results mean "nothing". Yes, I could have tightened the requirements a bit, but I wanted to leave them a bit open-ended so the barrier to entry wasn't intimidating or not easy-looking.
I reviewed all results best I could, and honestly by the looks of the chart, I don't think there's a single result on there without the tessellation sliders set right.
This was sort of a "pilot project" as I'd like to do more of these, as I think the whole multi-community part of this is an interesting draw, and so long as people realize that this is completely just a friendly throw-down, this concept could prove to take on a life of its own. :) There are things I can do to improve this idea, and I've written a few things down that should help in the even that I do something like this again.
Thanks again to Ket for helping jump-start my mind on this idea. :D
The requirements were laid down in the first post. Get the Benchmark changes specific settings and run the benchmark. To do anything other than what the OP states is a deliberate attempt to produce false test score plain and simple. I would have thought after the Andre Yang and Skinnee incident, this forum more than others would understand the implications of submitting false test results. Even if its a small forum competition. But as the above poster stated this took on a life of its own when he decided to post these skewed results on his news site.
I pity any nOObs who are actually mislead by the promoting of false hardware test scores. Or tweaked as some many people eloquently put it !
Nobody is promoting false anything. You people are really just blowing this way out of proportion. Setting image quality in the nvidia control panel to maximum performance is hardly cheating, nor is setting a slightly lower LOD bias. Almost everyone who behchmarks uses small LOD adjustments as well as the "maximum performance" setting the control panel.
I was asked via PM to re run the benchmark, without any LOD or anything else. However not having GTX470's anymore makes that impossible. So instead here is my results with 3 GTX480's @ 925/1850/4400 and an i7 920 at 4.4Ghz.
