Currently running my i5 750 prime95 stable at 21x200. Only problem is that it takes 1.5V :shocked:. Load temps are 66C with my TRUE which aren't bad at all, but I'm still a bit nervous. Any tips on getting this voltage down while still maintaining stability? Is 1.5V even safe?
Full specs are in sig. RAM is running at stock speed / timings / voltages. Full voltages:
1.5V cpu, 1.25V imc, 1.5V dram, 1.15V PCH, 1.9V PLL
not needed to go up to 1.5v this was my 4.2Ghz on i5-750 bios settings are at bottom of post. Increasing PLL a notch may help, also CPU Amplitude & Skew.
1.375v Vcore
IMC Voltage 1.3000v
CPU PLL Voltage 1.90v
You shouldn't do much harm benching, but i don't think i'd use it 24/7 :rofl:
My CPU PLL voltage is already 1.9V. I shouldn't need more than 1.25V IMC voltage tops since I'm running my memory at 1600 using stock timings and 1.5V. Does anyone think in this situation that the memory controller really needs any extra voltage?Quote:

EDIT: Dropping my IMC voltage to 1.2V has shaved 10C off my temps (89C to 79C) and doesn't impair stability at all. I think most folks simply don't need to pump this higher than 1.2V, which is what the xbitlabs article on the p7p55d deluxe article recommends.

I have a quick question regarding voltages and hard crashes (freezes, no blue screens). I'm running an 860 at 3.8ghz with 1.3125v Vcore, 1.3v IMC, 1.65v DDR, and 1.8v PLL. My memory is running at 1900mhz 7-8-7-20 1T (4gb kingston 2000mhz C8 kit). With the voltages mentioned i've run memtest86+ v4.00 for 5hours without any errors. Can i conclude that the DDR+IMC voltages are ok then? I mean, only vcore&pll could cause the instability now?
I did up the PLL to 1.9v and this did seem to improve stability, but was recommended not to use this voltage for 24/7 use. (see the other asus p7p55d discussion in the reviews forum) What are your experiences on the voltages? Can i also try to lower the IMC voltage and test with memtest86+ for stability, or do i need to run prime for absolute memory stability testing?
I'm a bit new to ovverclocking and would like to take it one step at a time. preferably looking at stable memory voltages/timings first before increasing the cpu speed. Is this a good approach?

I've got my 860 at 3.68 using only 1.25 volts and 1.8 on the PLL. Only a 167 bclck though. Not sue if that makes much difference or not.

On the original Core i7-9xx series, a lot of users had an easier time getting 191x21 stable compared to 200x20. The odd multipliers seemed to need less core voltage which helped keep the temps down too a few degrees. I'm not sure if the new socket 1156 chips are the same or not. I guess do some testing, run some benches and let us know what you find.
Changed around a bunch more settings. 4GHz just takes too much voltage no way around it - one core in particular keeps quitting on me :mad: even at 1.5V this core crashes out of p95 after an hour while the other three are happy to keep chugging along all night. Think this is the chip not the board or any other part of the setup so now I'm just trying to get everything rock stable on as little voltage as possible so I can bring my temps / fan speeds down.
Best blend of speed / stability / temps I've found so far is 3.8GHz (21 x 181) with 1.35V cpu, 1.2V IMC, 1.9V PLL, and 1.15V PCH. Prime95 temps are topping out around only 70C with all my fans turned down to 5V :D. IMC voltage contributes A LOT to the high temps many of you are seeing since you're essentially pumping another .1-.25V right into the cpu. Keeping IMC voltage DOWN by using a higher multi / lower bclk combo will decrease temps and increase stability.
When I have more time I'm going to see if I can keep this setup stable at even lower voltages. Maybe 3.8GHz with 1.1V IMC and 1.3V cpu is possible? If I can come up with some $ I may switch to an i7 860 just so I can try for 4GHz (25x160) using lower cpu and IMC voltages. With a 1:5 DRAM ratio that 160 blck would be perfect for my g.skill 1600 (5x160=800) too :).
EDIT: Tried for 3.9GHz / 1.36V cpu / 1.2V IMC, but it's not completely stable - one core crashed again after ~5 hours of prime. I'm giving up on anything over 3.8GHz so now I'm just trying to find the lowest voltages / temps for a decent overclock in the 3.5-3.8GHz range. Currently dropped to 3.6GHz (21x171) with 1.275V cpu & 1.15V IMC - prime95 temps are down another 10 degrees to 60C.
The strange thing is: it seems a lot of people here are having trouble, getting their i5-750's stable at 20x200MHz, even with a lot of Vcore...in some german forum, a lot of peope get their i7-750 stable, with voltages of 1.35V and below...my own CPU is somewhere in between, with 1.384V for 20x200Mhz...
Now what's wrong here? Did you guys in the US got other batches? Or what's the point?

I'm using a Zalman CNPS 10X cooler mounted that way, I think it's a bit larger than my TRUE, and it clears the memory and video cards. But as the above pic shows you'll need low profile memory.

I see you are running Crossfire. Since graphics cards are only two slots apart I assume the upper card shows much higher temperatures. What's the temp. difference between the cards?

Sounds daft, but i put some masking tape along the backside of the card just to prevent shorts. I'm a clumsy sod and knowing me will catch cooler and knock it aq couple of mm into back of live gfx card :ROTF:

The Deluxe has a heatpipe connecting the vrm sinks, so it should be even better than the cooling on the Pro which just uses two sinks.
I've found this board to be fine with the stock sinks, compared to the P5Q Pro it replaced.

as retro said, the ptemium for the 2000 over the 1600 was around 10% but the extra rated speed is 25%. That sounds decent vakuer to me.:shrug:As retro says therey hive plenty of flexibility at lower speeds, thighter timings as well as having the headroom.

They're actually quite close to each other. Only a couple of degrees separate them. I do have a couple 120mm fans mounted in the side panel of my case. I wasn't terribly impressed with the stock Cosmos cooling, only 1 intake fan.Quote:

What's your BCLK wall on these motherboards/CPUs? My system craps out at 216MHz BCLK, it completes Pi1M @ 215MHz and Pi32M @ 213MHz, no matter the memory speed.

Anyone else having issues with the Via audio drivers having a massive memory leak? I've tried both versions available from the Asus site, and both just suck.
After big delay, last friday received my Core i5 750.
To be sure that nothing was wrong, before I did a contact test between pins and CPU socket. I fit it with my water Block, for few hours.
I dismantled them and made these pictures HIRES in MACRO.

Can someone tell me how do I enable the 21 X multiplier on the Asus P7P55D PRO board? When i put the 21X multiplier it stays on 20X. BIOS stands 21X.
I use a Core i5 750. And i can't get my BCLK well stable above 204..

Do you test only with 1.21v VTT? If yes, test with more (~1.3v) ;)
msmeenge: A Core i5-750 will need to use the turbo mode of the CPU to access the 21X multiplier. If a motherboard lets you select a 21X multiplier then it is supposed to turn on turbo mode at the same time. Make sure turbo is enabled in the bios just to make sure. You might also need to have SpeedStep (EIST) enabled on some boards and update your bios to the latest version in case there's a problem with it.
RealTemp and i7 Turbo will give you an honest look at your multiplier.

Does anyone else have stability issues with G.Skill Ripjaws? At stock settings I get occassional crashes to a blank screen (less of these after switching from 8GB to 4GB). Hi msmeenge, I have similar problems with the P7P55D. This seems to be a hidden bug in the bios.. I've previously fixed my turbo feature by reloading a saved OC profile. However, i flashed to bios 0915, and did not save an OC profile afterwards. Afterwards i got the turbo bug again. To make matters worse, ASUS seems to have disabled the bios downgrade option completely, so now i'm also stuck with a motherboard where the turbo feature doesnt work anymore, and no possibility to try a previous bios + oc profile for a possible fix.Quote:

Apparently fixed turbo for some people that were having issues. I saw it mentioned on the Asus forums (followed a link from here).
Is anyone else noticing, that the P7P55D needs more voltage on the CPU to get it stable? I got a CPU from someone tested on a Gigabyte P55-UD5, and he needs 0,04V less for 20x200...anyone got a clue why this can be?

Get yourself the Corsair H50-1. Best cooler ive ever owned keeps my 860 @ 3.9ghz 247 HT ON. You wont regret it!
where did you mount CWCH50 radiator? what case do you have? Price is identical to the Prolimatech Megahalem.... what your idle & full load cpu temps OC'd?

Prolimatech Megahalem is hitting low 20s all air no water on 1366 chips. I cant see it being much different on 1156 sockets

My office is too hot after business hours and limited me on OC limit. I dont like pushing past 65d at full load while oc. Since my house is colder & my office is in the coldest room in the house i should have no restrictions here.
Still reading more about the H50-1 not ruled out, sure is clean looking after installed.

I got the P7P55D-E and apparently skimmed the 8x/4x mode thing for the PCI-E. I'm running Crossfire (a carry-over from my older Maximus/Rampage rig) with a pair of 4890's and am wondering if perhaps there's a BIOS hack or something to enable the second slot to work at 2.0 8x like it does on the "higher spec" versions of the board, like the EVO and the Deluxe. Or is this actually a hardware thing?

my p7p55d seems to max out at 220 bclk too. my 2000x ram tops out at 1800mhz. im using i5 650. anyone know why i cant get past 1800mhz? 1207 bios....

My problem is that for some reason the memory timings are not sticking. I enter 8,8,8,24 in the BIOS yet it will automatically change to 9 in windows. Is this because it's not stable or what? I am running the latest 1307 BIOS
I am running 1.625 vdimm and 1.25V on the IMC. I have tried up to 1.65Vdimm and 1.3V on the IMC and also loading the XMP profile with all the same results :/

windows will report the cas incorrectly. i found an updated version of cpu-tweaker 1.4 beta 10, here at XS which reports it correctly. i think in a i5 6xx thread. the bios is the correct reading for cas latencyQuote:

I've been having weird problems with this board, which is really frustrating because I can't spend very much time playing with it per day!
Using; Cosair 750W HX PSU, Core i5-750, and Corsair Dominatior 4GB 2000Mhz CMG4GX3M2A2000C8 with a known good old 8800GTS.
I have seen a few different behaviors:
- Fans spin up, then spin down then up over and over
- Post hangs
- Froze at Windows installation welcome screen
- System boots into windows, but after a restart, it doesn't post.
- sudden shut off when in bios once
A sure fire method to get the system to boot, was reset the cmos.
I was getting pretty angry as you might imagine. My buddy S3rvo was helping me out and pointed me to my memory voltage, which should be 1.6, and was at 1.3. When I would try to specify 1.6 it would halt on post with "Overclock Failed!" message and directed me to bios to fix.
I don't have error code beeps, but some documentation suggests that the on off behavior is the board trying to fix itself.
Light at the end of the tunnel; I updated the bios to 1702, changed the AI Tweaker to DOCP where I was able to specify DRAM settings; 2000Mhz, and the 1.6 voltage, and it *seemed* to be running smoothly. I was able to boot and restart without any of those annoying problems I was having.
Has anyone else run into any of these issues? I'm not getting the same behavior every time which make me think that I'm not setting the bios config correctly.
And I'm sitting at work, not able to test more and I'm obsessing over it!
before I put my board in my case and rebuild this pc I want advice on the following.

I have also read MyNameIsJeff's post which sounds a bit similiar but not the same.
Basically when I turn my board on, the fans etc. spin up, the memok light is red. It then powers off after about a second and turns itself on again but then posts as normal. This was when testing outside of a case with ram, cpu, and a 7600gt pci-e gfx card and ps2 keyboard. nothing else, no usb , no storage devices.
also my ram only works in a1 and b1 slots. The manual states a2 and b2 will only work when a1 and b1 are also populated so I thought nothing off it and assumed when I get my other 2 sticks of ram they will work, but now I seen this post which seems to be using a2 and b2 slots?

well i always put the ram on the a1-b1 or a1-b1-c1(for the triple channel type) otherwise it won't boot(won't damage your board or ram just won't boot).Quote:

I powered it on and was a very very slow post, mostly due to the jmicron just sitting there detecting drives for about 2 minutes. Right now I have my old dvd burner connected to the e-ide jmicron which does get detected and my samsung sata which does not get detected. Reason for the sata is that I plan to enable ahci on the intel ports and the samsung doesnt like ncq. Went in the bios, disabled onboard sound and lan as I got x-fi and intel pro 1000 cards. Left cpu and ram on defaults. Also intel sata is currently on ide mode but will be changed soon. I found out from the manual the power off then on thing is normal due to hardware training and can be toggled in the bios, in my view power cycles are not good for hardware so I may disable it but on the other side once I have this running properly my system is on 24/7 so I wont be doing cold boots often anyway.
Next I reset and decided to look at this asus xpress gate screen but it didnt stay for long and windows started booting up, I thought this isnt going to boot surely and it did actually boot, screen res messed up. I left it doing its thing redetecting hardware and after a 2nd boot everything is normal, correct screen res and only the usb3 needing drivers. Now here is something weird, the samsung drive which failed to show on post is up and running inside windows. My cpu temps look somewhat better after windows has booted although I know the power saving is quite impressive, clocks down to 1.4ghz and lower voltage. when I first booted during dusk the temps were high 20s on the cores and today low 30s, during the windows experience index test they got to low 40s. All 4 gig of ram is working fine, no weird 2 gig issue thankfully. A bit worrying is my voltages. On my old core2duo and asus p5wdh deluxe they were almost spot on. Now I have 2 figures that look off.
the +12 is 13v which I think is just about ok but not ideal.
the -5 tho is -2v which seems too far off. Is this something to worry about? These are reported from everest.
I got at least 2 case fans not working, front intake one I know is because I have yet to plugin to the board (couldnt find cable and with pulled back so gave up), the back fan tho should be working so I will have to double check if the power cable is ok. Also the bottom fan (antec p82) which cools most of my hdd's appears to not be spinning. So this will be contributing to the higher then expected cpu temps. It could have been worse tho, at least its booted ok. So I will need to fix fans and do ram/cpu stress tests. I am now in 2 minds whether or not I will actually reinstall windows, probably still should so the old drivers get flushed out of the system.
--update--
fans all working now, after a reboot tho I had a bsod as soon as I logged into desktop with "A driver has overrun a stack-based buffer", it didnt occur on the boot after. I hope this is due to me using an old installation rather than hardware related so I will reinstall windows now tonight.
also in the bios jmicron is either on or off, no options for ahci and bootrom. In other people's comments and reviews I see they have the extra options but they are on the original 1st gen p7p55d. The manual states the options also but the screenshot in the manual does not have the options there. Does anyone know if they appear in a newer bios? or if they were removed in an older bios perhaps? thanks.
my lan card in pci-e slot 3 appears to have some latency spikes, very minor but noticeable. but again I guess I really should be reinstalling windows before worrying about problems.
I reinstalled windows about 3-4 hours ago, was listening to an mp3 and got a bsod.
'page fault in non paged error'
seems the p55 really is flawed as I took great care putting this together, and I also ran 3 pass's on memtest they all passed which means if its hardware it looks like the board or cpu.

the problem may well be my ram, I checked the vendor site of the ram I brought and is a lot of complaints for people who have ram that passes memtest but causes occasional bsod's and other issues. I have downclocked my ram that is supposedbly rated for 1600 now to 1066 to see if the problems stop, as a way to naildown if thats the problem. As soon as I did that my first boot after my samsung started working without needing jmicron drivers. Seemed a very big coincidence.
ok the system seems stable on 1066 so I am now trying again to make stable on 1333.
What I have done is increased dimm voltage to 1.65v which is the spec ram sold as.
Changed timings manually to match what it can do at 1600, it has no listed specs for 1333 on 1.65v. But I would like to think it can run at 1333 with same timings as 1600.
Increased IMC by 0.05v as when left on auto and with ram at 1.65v the gap was 0.55v.
Also in regards to my samsung hdd issue.
I did some tests, the old ide burner was innocent, when I removed the samsung sata connection on bootup the ide burner is detected instantly and no delay. Replace the samsung sata connector and a 3 minute delay with the drive only working in windows with jmicron drivers installed. I considered trying it on the intel ports even knowing the drive has issues with ncq but it was a no no with the web of cables around all the intel sata ports, so put it in the marvell sata port and enabled marvell in the bios. On bootup the marvell detects the samsung no problem at all and I can use the drive in windows in ide mode without any drivers. So it would seem either my board has a defective jmicron port (I think unlikely) or the jmicron is been problematic with that drive (more likely). Next time I buy a drive I will deliberatly try it on the jmicron just to be curious if it affects other drives as well.
Also it seems with every bios update asus are removing more and more options from the bios, these are what I noticed are missing since the early p7p55d days.

Hi guys,
I'm using Asus P7P55D-E Pro with lastes BIOS version 1002 and I can't go back to version 0806.
Both EZ-Flash 2 and Asus Update (downgrade option) don't support flashing a BIOS version which is older than the current one :( It's a shame on Asus :down:
Is there anyway to do this? I did some search but couldn't figure it out :confused:

there is an engineer build of afudos someone posted on the asus vip forum site which allows bios downgrading, I forgot the url but did download the files, so later I will try to upload them somewhere for you, you will need to boot to clean dos to use them tho. I am also on 1002 so please if possible can you give the reason for downgrading?
I had another bsod 15 minutes ago :( after a couple of days of stability, every bsod I have had so far seems to jump out randomly and appears unrelated to load as they all occur when almost idle. The system had also passed a 20 test run of linx.
cpu is still on stock and ram at 1333. my core2duo was a rock even overclocked, this however is quite possibly the most unstable system I have ever built. Defenitly the first one I have built where auto settings in bios are unstable.

I've heard of some compatibility issues between Asus mainboard and OCZ memory.
Just wanna try some previous BIOS versions to see if anything better :)

ram spec is 2N, SPD set to nothing and bios left at a defaullt 1N. So give me a week or so and I will tell you if I reckon thats fixed it. I also had accidently set a write delay timing too low after my manual configuration which is now also fixed, however when it was crashing on the auto timings the most likely cause was the command rate. Obviously changing ram brand would likely be at my own expense and ram is expensive at the moment, if I have to do that then I would be looking for compensation of someone probably of the current ram vendor since the ram I am using was specifically listed as compatible with this board.
If I am right then a solution to this problem from asus would be to default command rate to 2N unless ram SPD specifically overides it.

Probably the memory is damaged and you need to replace it. The system mean stable when the Blend Prime test running without errors at least 24H.
try setting ram CR to 2T.
any idea what to set for IMC voltage? i left it on auto and it keeps giving values in red. currently running 20x200, i5 760.
I'm set IMC Voltage to 1.2V for 1600MHz memory 6-8-6-20 or 1.25V for 2000MHz 8-10-8-24. 200x20 and system rock stable in LinX and Prime Blend. But it's depending by CPU memory controller. I tried several CPU and these settings worked in all cases. CR=1N(1T)
I have problems with ocz gold 12800 low-voltage (8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v)
I cannot pass ~1200mhz any vdimm, any imc voltaje.
