Like I have said now at least twice: the TEC will not be a part of any loop... is just a toy to experiment with on... :)

i think u should honestly go rad1 -> pump assy -> rad2 -> pump assy 2 -> rad 3 -> pump assy 3 -> gpu instead.
your not gonna get pneumatic... your gonna get Ibiza vortex rave party expecially with a side inlet.
So I need to get the window etching designs into MM real soon (just learned)... Anyone game? I'll be working on my own ugly attempts of logo-ish warfare ... but uhh, if anyone makes a design that I find to be particularly bad @ass, you can have your name below it. Whoopity-frakkin-do! I know. I can feel your anxiety to get started already... :stick:
EDIT: ALSO, anyone know what color this crud is: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23675 ... Looks red-ish.. just wondering if anyone had any hands on experience with it?
just go straight distilled with a bit of silver in your loop.
you want color.. get color tubing.
Also Xaxis, unless your comp sits off most of the time... FILTERS ARE MANDATORY.. i know there ugly, but trust me, you want them.
wow this grew from the time i went to school (3 pages or so where he showed his intial flow chart) till now (5 pages)
i was bored today... :X
few people got special treatment from me.
O M G
is that a i7 975 ????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sweet
omg im so jealous i so wish i could find one on sale for $500 (impossible probably)
For all those who have purchased an MM case with custom details (nothing major) just painting and configuration and what not, how long do you recall it taking for you to get your case. I made my order on the 15th I think... Just curious as to how much longer I should expect?
I suppose this question is more relevant to those who live in the states.
Thx.
i understand you man. my pace has been pretty slowed down by reality/work/personal life as well. but i try to get some work done on the project, even if a few minutes.
sorry, to ot. but i couldn't help noticing your avatar. is that your own backyard with solar panels? if so, how much power does that generate?
you guys are being pretty hard on him... this is gonna be an epic build...
seems like hes just tryna get some things sorted out...
+1 for res>pump>rad>res>pump>rad>res>pump>rad>gpus
i kinda wanted to see you try the three seperate gpu loops though... lol
Oh don't worry about going ot... usually I end up doing that more than anyone else in my own threads i think... har.
Anyway, yes that is my own backyard, it's a 16KW solar array and powers every last gadget I own. In fact the power meter is always spinning backwards, even on cloudy winter days. The electric company in the area of California where my house is has had an extremely solid incentive program for people, paying them back half the cost of their installations... And when we're talking $140,000 installs, $70,000 is a lot more appealing price tag.
A lot of people simply can't imagine spending that much money on an array and say things like "it will take years to pay for itself", stuff like that... I tell them that's not true, because the money you're now spending monthly to pay off your solar array will be about the same as what you were paying for monthly electricity anyway, accept this way your're:
1) Increasing the value of your property.
2) Increasing your own security when it comes to things like natural disaster when the electric grid goes down. In my situation I have a well, without power to pump the water out I wouldn't be able to get any water, that sort of thing.
3) You're literally reducing your carbon footprint by tons a month and thus helping the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.
I list number 3 last when speaking to people because it's usually the last thing on their minds, especially during "hard times" such as some/many are experiencing right now. Anyhow, I was fortunate enough to be able to pay for it all out right, this is obviously is the better choice so you don't have to pay interest on a loan of any kind. Regardless, in my opinion if you have the ability, investing in alternative energy sources such as PV arrays is as good as gold.
I'm working on some software in my spare spare time right now that will allow me to post statistics concerning my own array to the web for live monitoring, provide data like "how many tons of carbon has been offset, how many trees it would take to plant to do the same thing, how many miles of driving time have been nullified by having an array"... stuff like that.
A little while back I spent an evening making a small javascript app that you may find interesting/scary: You can have a look at that at www.carbonmeter.info (I've only tested it in firefox and am guessing it may have trouble in IE... I hate programming web apps for IE... EDIT: Just checked IE8 using winxp pro 64-bit, surprisingly seems to work.)
How's that for going OT? harhar. :)
Thanks for the support dubtown, but it's okay, it takes a closet full of velociraptors (not the hard drives. har.) to make me angry. ;)
I agree with your config. I believe its along the same lines as the advice I've received from NaeKuh, it's what I'm going to be testing out first to be sure.
armeniandave of UN Designs has been kind enough to put together the following candidates for the custom rad grills.
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0026.jpg
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0027.jpg
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0028.jpg
We're not sure if whatever choice is decided upon will go on every grill, or for instance on the 3x3 grill, top and center with the rest being of a "standard" design, meaning without the logo. Also, I think there will be some more candidates coming to choose from, not positive yet. Anyhow, feedback and ideas are always appreciated.
As a reminder and to give an idea of some of the grills to be made there will be a 3x3 form, 4x3 form, 4x1 form, 1x1 form, and perhaps one other 3x1+1x1(centered form).
The last two look the least restrictive. I'd go with one of them. Probably the last one, since not many people know what XS stands for, but at least with Xtreme Systems they'll get the name of the site.
I like the last one but you spelled Xtreme wrong :p:
looks like this is gonna be amazing!!!
just in spirit with the xtreme my vote goes for individual loop for each gpu.... :D
cant wait to see this come together looks like itll be awesome !
You know, this was my first instinct before I thought of anything else.
Then I realized that I would need to mount the radiators horizontally instead of vertically (which for some reason I was expecting to do)... So then I started thinking that the symmetry of things would be of... It's totally subjective I know, but I'm just not sure if all that tubing going across from one side would be attractive. On the motherboard tray (which is an EATX tray) I intend on making "drain holes" through where the tubing and connect and disconnect (but that's not why I'm doing it) .. I just think it will look very clean to route the tubing through the motherboard tray itself as apposed to curving it over the edges... Also, I think someone said that I wouldn't be able to fit the tubing and attachments in the space required with all three cards. I disagree with this and know exactly how I would do it.
Anyhow, thanks for bringing it up because lately I have kinda put that possibility out of my mind and I most certainly want to keep all my options open. :)
great to see your dedication and thoughts on the environment xaxis.
hopefully one day soon I'll be in a position to set up a humungus (huge) solar array myself.
Oh I can only say that I'm very fortunate and I know so many others that would do the same if they could. I really hope the current administration in the US makes a huge effort to truly once and for all stop our reliance on foreign oil imports by funding massive solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro electric energy production plants/farms/facilities/whatever. ... Aside from the politics of everything if I was more concerned I suppose I wouldn't be buying and building the things that I do. I bicycle everywhere but because of all the things I order online I bet I'm causing just as much if not more production of carbon as I would if I did use a car and didn't have this hobby.
Also, in the states it seems everyone has a lawn, including myself :shakes: ... all the mowing, mowing, mowing every week... IMO it's one the most ridiculous of carbon producing activities (ideas) ever conceived. I started planting bamboo and other extremely aggressive mediterranean vegitation over (aprox) half acre near the back of the property in an attempt to eventually create a jungle with the intent of it taking over all the land it can. It requires watering of course. One day I hope it takes over the entire property... let it grow in through the windows and doors of the house, hell I don't care, just as long as I don't have to see or mow a lawn again!
I've also been researching genetic engineering and horticulture in general to see if a grass could be produced that grows to a desired height, stays at that height unless damaged, at which point it grows back to that same height, so that mowing would become a laughed upon relic of the past... Of course I realize that this idea is insane and knowing me it would more than likely by some whim end up being a carnivorous grass that sought only the taste of humans. That might not be such a bad idea either. :D
I guess I should shut up and go sleeve some power cords...
Your very passionate mate and that is so good to see.
Don’t underestimate or undervalue your ideas though. It all starts from a thought and the motivation to go forward.
Our government here in Australia seems to be back peddling all the time when it comes to the environment, renewable energy and sustainable practices.
But hey, let’s hope the next generation of pollies have better sense and responsibility to lead their people and take care of our Mother Earth.
Now back to your sleaving, expecting an update and more pics soon :yepp:
Thanks for the info on your solar array ... my father always had dreams of doing something like that. Since you have your own power source, you can set up this new rig to do some wonderful crunching or folding for research, and not have to worry about the extra power it's using!
Keep the updates coming.
16KW solar array :O
how big is that?
Umm really friggin big!!!!!!!
One of my goals in the next 5 years is to go solar for the house.
If you guys and girls could please buy a lot of brackets then I
could do it a little quicker!!!!
i think that the individual loop style may take a little bit of work to get really clean but i think that it can look really really really cool if done right i say go for it man :up:Quote:

also with this grouped style i think the benefits of having such a large group of radiators is sort of diminished... with an individual style, i say that the performance will also be over the top. something to think about if you dont want both inlet and outlet tubes to be seen is to have an inlet from the back of the mother board above the pci slots and then have the outlet going across the mobo... if you need a better explanation please ask
anyways can't wait to see whats next and the fan grills look great
and how big would those said 200w panels be?
To anyone who plans to go all solar for their house, I would take the effort RIGHT NOW to start monitoring the total power usage for your house, including peak, average, and low power usage. As an added step, you may even want to set up an anemometer, with a digital logging system, on your roof to see if possibly wind power would be more advantageous, or even a hybrid wind/solar power system.
At least an entire year's worth of data is best so you see how much power you use for all 4 seasons.
This sort of data will not only help you plan the capacity for your system, but also will help you learn how to conserve power before you begin to rely on the panels.
Also, see what your utility company has for options with a grid-tied system. Many times you can sell your surplus power BACK to the grid, and get a CREDIT on your power bills. A grid tied system will also save you a LOT of money up-front since you don't have to buy banks of batteries and monitoring gear.
Finally, before you even research solar power, please realize that for efficiency-sake, you will save a LOT more money, and fossil fuels switching to a Solar Heat system, than you would switching to a Photovoltaic system for your house. If you plan to do both, by all means, but at least check out both options.
Well, your typical 170W panel is about 2 foot by 4 foot.
theres a lockheed martin near my school that has set up a nearly 300 foot long solar array... it is absolutely amazing it tilts to face the sun as it moves across the sky... quite a sight to see it in one position in the morning and in a totally different position in the afternoon going home...
Your right and wrong.
There are different types of measurements concerning photo voltaics power production. "One Peak Sun" per STC (standard test condition) of 1000 watts per square meter irradiance and 25 C cell temperature represent the optimal means for measuring though rarely are these conditions valid in outside real world settings and yet these ratings will be the watt output (STC) you will see on the outside of every PV cell produced by every manufacture. You see the factors that determine a given cell's performance I-V curve (showing the relationship between current and voltage production, I*V=W) is is a bell shape every day. Meaning current is produced over a wide range of voltages and naturally your total energy output (wattage) follows this same I-V curve every day. In other words you start out with a 0KW array before dawn, maybe a 11KW array around 9 or 10 (depending on the time of year) and likewise a peak (what one genuinely ends up describing their array as, in my case 16KW) at another point in the day based again on the time of year and time of day...
Now to make matters more confusing, Vmp or maximum power point which is the point in time of maximum energy output within an STC, is also another common defacto rating of cells.
Really though it's quite intuitive once you can simply read the results, it can be quite confusing however to predict (really not so much so, just takes some time and reading).
Excluding sun tracking arrays which provide a somewhat to mediocre output gain, it's obvious that as the sun is lower in the sky your cells will not going to produce their maximum potential, which is almost never the "maximum potential" in the first place. So what does this all mean? Well, in my case it means 84 x 220 watt cells = 16KW (real maximum output) ... not 18.48KW as the math based on standards in ratings would suggest. So are we being lied to by PV companies? No. All the information regarding what I just said will come with any PV cell. All they are saying is that under perfect conditions a given cell will produce the resulting value. And they're right, they would, it's just that those conditions rarely exist and when they do it's only for a short portion of the day with the right weather conditions during the correct time of year...
Har.. I should say, I love talking about PV stuff so I've decided this may as well be part of my build log talk... after all, this is my Power Supply, is it not? :)
I have to say I appreciate your ideas given and I can't wait until I get the case. At that point I think a lot of ... well, everyones ideas and points that are being made will become so much clearer. It's the "a picture is worth a 1000 words kind of thing I guess" ...
To change the subject a little, I'm really really getting close to just purchasing two 295s and ditching the three 285s. I was informed by Eddy that he won't even be getting the revised 285 PCB to start working on the new water blocks until next Monday... and from that point I have no idea how long it will take to actually see 285 EK water blocks (rev 2) in a store anywhere. Does anyone think I should just go with the 295s and the 295 blocks or am I perhaps being to hasty?
There is some new hardware coming down the pipes so you might want to wait just a little longer. I did see a 295 that was on one board from the computex show. BTW if you want to throw one of the 285's away I have a trashcan........
ahh isn't that everyones question??? haha good luck because its the debate of the year i think... i guess for starters, what do you do most of the time with your computer?? if gaming, i guess 285s but if folding etc, 295s, either way, 295's are extremely impressive in their own right, but 285's for pure screaming power....
again, this is me on an "xtreme" mode...
the asus mars- dual 285's in 295 configuration = 285's in quad sli.... total beast
but theres only a limited number, around 1000??? i think.... check it out HERE
Yeah, by the time I've finished this project to a reasonable extent (hoping no longer than 1.5 months from now) I'll probably end up replacing most if not all the computer hardware... I've been looking real hard at the Asus P6T7 WS Supercomputer. My current workstation is the P6T6 Revolution and while I'm not a folder I do enjoy dabbling in GPGPU (CUDA and StreamSDK) as far as cryptanalysis is concerned... and I think that board would finally be the perfect fit for my 4 4870X2s as far as bandwidth concurrency and some other issues I've been having are concerned. 8 GPUs of stream computing glory that would annihilate FASTRA Project! As far as your garbage can is concerned... sounds fine, as long as I get to ship it via semi-autonomous VTOL home made composite carbon fiber prototype aircraft with fan jet/ion lifter propulsion engines and real time laptop retina projected HUD we've gotta a deal... cuz I've been meaning to get rid of that too.
Yeah the sad part is I would probably actually try and get one if I had a chance... but yeah. Thinking there somehow already sold to those who rub shoulders/elbows/err.. whatever it takes to rub to get a vid card like that, the best.

Yet another possible grill candidate. As you can see armeniandave improved airflow quite a bit compared to my original design which was pretty darn restrictive. Haven't determined if or where or how to implement a logo on this one yet. As always, would be happy for feedback.
This was the original I posted (for reference):
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0003.jpg
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0030.jpg
And another w/ circular logo and "standard" grill design for reference. Recall whatever is chosen, the grill with the logo on it will be the 3x3 front grill with the logo positioned top and center.
EDIT: Personally I think I'm starting to lean towards armeniandave's original design due to the symmetry and minimalistic elegance (and I think better air flow). Opinions?
So, I decided on the final design and layout for all the grills. I went with armeniandave's original design for the its symmetry, elegant minimalism, and increased air flow.
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0031.jpg
The "logo" cutout with just the XS letters is the better choice for a number of reasons, but mainly I think it just looks better.
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0035.jpg
Notice the wire cut-outs near the bottom which will allow me to route the pump and possible lighting wires nice and cleanly.
Top Panel Grill

MM Ascension & MM Pedestal 24 Back Panel Grill
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0033.jpg
MM Pedestal 24 Side Panel Grills
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0034.jpg
MM Ascension Back Panel & MoBo Tray Grills
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0036.jpg
There will be 2 of most of the grills made, 1 for inside, 1 for outside. The bottom pedestal 24 won't receive double grills. It will 2 1x4s and 1 1x3 all for the outside.
I promise I'll post some more "exciting" pictures soon. I thought these were exciting, but that's a different story it seems. :)
wow nice designs ! kudos to armeniandave
really good airflow and its not overdoing the xtremesystems thing... i like it!
Thanks alphadog...
I second that (naturally). Unlimited quantity of kudos to armeniandave!
CALLING ALL GRAPHICS ARTIST?!?!?!?
Okay, so with the minimal risk of annoying people by asking again, here it goes: If there is anyone who wants to see their work on the acrylic side panels (laser etched) I'm desperately looking for a talented artist to collaborate with on the centered 'Project Illuminated' logo. And really by talented I just mean anyone who's better than me (which is probably includes your average 3 year old) :yepp: ... Right now I'm thinking like this crazy radial burst supernova type thing dominating the middle in all its potential glory, with bright white/blue tinted light gushing through the back of the acrylic. Underneath this imagined piece of art work in some unknown yet perfectly fitting font, simply 'Project Illuminated' .... and of course, somewhere affixed to all of that would be placed the artists signature.
Now, I know I'm asking a lot, but I gotta say guys, when it comes to graphics art, you might as well have me finger paint a design with mud and used oil... Do you guys really want to see this potential beautiful build become the laughing stock of all the Internet connected universe on account of my pathetic graphics skills? Well I'm guessing, and understandably, most don't care.. har.. but think of it another way... If you make a cool logo/design type thingy... I'll give you all the appreciation I can muster plus my biggest smile too. :D :D :D
Anyone? .... Okay, I'll shut up about it now.
Sorry: nothing much to update, I talked to Ben via e-mail at MM, he informs me I'll be waiting about two more weeks before shipment... A good opportunity to develop my patience I suppose.
I love these fans...
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0038.jpg
I've yet to receive another 14 for a grand total of 38.
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0037.jpg
Some other news: The custom fan grills of all sizes are soon to be in the first stages of production! I can't wait to get them. I think that I'll be powder coating them high gloss black to contrast with the high gloss frost white MM Ascension and company cases.
I got a bunch of other stuff too, some more Intel SSDs, various water cooling supplies, another duplicate power supply (more blood to spill sleeving), some stuff for my phase change build... all post some more meaningful updates as soon as I have them to post. :)
EDIT: After more and more thinking, double-thinking, re-re-thinking, etc I re-again decided I just want to purchase one of runmc's SS Chillers for starters. I'll be using it on the bench and atm don't plan on making it a fixed component of this build (least not until I can figure a way to do so practically and beautifully).
OMG! mountain of fans! Awesome!
How's the Enermax Fans performance?
What made you.....use it as ur 38 fans?
You are a freak. FREAK
FRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
I wish I was you :p:
I see....
I wonder how they would look....lighted up! :P
Not sure if should change to these Enermax after seeing quite a few of these fans in various logs
Using these now....
http://www.scythe-eu.com/fileadmin/i...-Fan-120mm.jpg
This is by far the most ridiculous, inexplicable and insane build I've ever seen, and for some reason I still like it and I'm eagerly waiting how this turns up.
Keep up the level:up:
that a huge amount of fans
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0039.jpg
If that doesn't prove to you how abysmal I am at making "graphics art", and by that I mean the kind that DOESN'T spontaneously cause brain hemmoraging in 70% of all viewers (sorry), you either don't have eyes or you do have eyes, but they're looking somewhere else. I can't even imagine how pitiful that will look when it's etched with a laser on acrylic!
Need I pay one of you peoples out there with a shred of talent? Arghh, I think it might come to that... I'll keep on making logos I suppose, they might at least be good for a laugh, but I fear I'm only somehow triggering an increased risk of Alzheimer's in my fellow Xtreme Systems members... Again, sorry. .... :help:
WOW! i dont even wanna think how much $ you are spending...all the parts are so nice...cant wait for the updates
Thanks! It's been a challenge for me every day waiting to get the case from MM.... but it gives me more time to think about the build before hand so hopefully that will be beneficial...
Oh, and don't worry, you won't have to think about how much I'm spending, because my answer will always be: not enough. :D
What the flip
This thread = a lot of money
Thats a lot of fittings, fans and water cooling stuff. Cant wait to see the final product
I'll make this brief, for It may be against forum guidelines, If anyone is interested in earning $100.00 (through paypal) to design a single logo design that will be laser etched on the center of each clear side panel acrylic window, contact me via PM to discuss it. Basically I would just want the words 'Project Illuminated' in a font of my choosing below a wicked looking design that in some manner, shape, or form expresses... well... illumination, in vivid (when transferred to acrylic) artistic brilliance... I keep on thinking: supernova... or something like that.
In other thoughts my brain has for me: I still intend on having a number of "sponsors" and XtremeSystems etched onto the side panels too... but if anyone was designing me a logo, they wouldn't have to worry about that.
Good Luck with your logo, Xaxis. I'm sure some talented folks can come through for you.
I'm thoroughly enjoying your enthusiasm for this build, and I'm sure Mountain Mods will come through with your case. Keep the updates coming.
(BTW, I grew up in Central California ... ain't all that bad :p: )
I am half tempted to draw a geometric design for you in SW, but at the same time I think the constraints headache of sketching something complex like that I am thinking of would probably put me in a coma
Thanks for your words of support shazza. I only wish I was capable of designing something myself that I didn't feel like throwing away. :)
I grew up within the "rebellious" greenery of County Cork, (southern Ireland) ... so while I appreciate the states and my place hear for a good many reasons, you can imagine the change of geography threw me for a loop... and hasn't stopped doing so for 12 years, and so this is why I spend half my year in a small house in Port Angeles, WA, every year (almost always in the summer months) .... something I'm not doing this year due to a number of life's little unpredictabilities. Regardless, I'm willing to wager I'll survive. ;)
I love your build, but i want updates :D
yeah, me too ;)
Damn. 5 digit budget just for wc.
GDamn.
Will it become 6 digits soon?... :D
Awesome man. Just awesome.
I want more updates too! :( I'm waiting for my MM case to arrive. Once it does I can guarantee I'll be working on the project every hour I'm awake. It's my only priority/responsibility from today until about 10 months from now. :) I promise I'll be a photo fiend. I've been purchasing some proper photography staging stuff too, so the photos might turn out a little better than usual.
:)
Well, if I could find 5 Feser 480 rads ANYWHERE - that might help towards a 6 digit figure. :D I had hoped to use at least 3 of them up in the top of the MM Ascension as apposed to the 3 360 rads I have now. The other two would go in the first pedestal 24 base and I would then buy another pedestal 24 to house the Monstas (I'm thinking of buying a third Monsta soon if I can figure out the logistics). Also, if the new EK full board water block for the EVGA x58 Classified was acetal+nickel I would buy it... I may still buy it anyway. I'll just have to do the nickel plating myself.
Okay, so I promise after these next two grill images, the next images you'll see related to grills will be the real deal.
I just wanted to show off armeniandave's attention to detail. You'll notice the 3 additional slots for wire routing he implemented on the the inside 3x3 grill.
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0040.jpg
Also, he made some modifications to the 3x4 inside grill, concerning sizing issues that might arise with the barbs on the upper rads. It's good stuff!
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0041.jpg
Next will come the custom side panels which will also be a product of (UN).
Sorry for the long winded post... I've been sleeving two power supplies almost all night, guess I just needed a break.
Thanks for your support everyone. :)
Looks like UN has all the goods... they should just start making cube computer cases. Competition in the market would be nice :yepp:
Oh please do UN lol.
Well I would love to build a case and I do have some ideas, however it would need to be a bit different than MM because I don't believe in copying there design at all. However cubed cases can only be made so many different ways so theres the challenge.
Xaxis should have those grills soon so you guys and gals can see real ones and not just pictures!
Waterjet FTW!
Drawing it in ProE and then exporting it to the waterjet.
cool ,waterjet is fun. is your interface software flowcut? I use PRO-E as a CAD engineer at my summer job, its a great program suite.
We use the OMAX software to interface with the waterjet.
Import the DXF file and then manipulate it a little.
ProE is great once you learn it, however compared to some of the other programs the learning curve can be quite steep.
For Xaxis's grills it was great because there were so many little tweaks to make the grills not only custom for his personal tastes but also perform in a way that this build deserves.
In all seriousness guys, please feel free to go as OT as you want in regard to your discussion. I'm all ears when it comes to learning all things CNC/waterjet/CAM related. :) :)
(Or did I secretly just want to bump my thread? Muuuahhahhaa!)
Haha! I like the name of 'Xaxis's grills'. Something remind me the prisonbreak. Yaah! waterjet FTW!
Anyone interested in the coolest thing ever, please proceed to follow this link: http://www.tapelites.com/Movies/Movi...ame=Xpandolite ... Expensive, but so cool. I think I bought what was the last of the stranded variety... Ohh the ideas are streaming in now. :D
For those who don't wish to watch the video:
http://www.xaxis.net/downloads/image...ation/0042.jpg
I found it at mouser.com ... if it's old news, well it's new news to me. I'm stoked, I'll kinds of case lighting ideas now. :)
LOL, weave that into sleeving
just make the sleeving outa that stuff :D
the mdpc (the good stuff) isn't going to be around until at least July or so I gather. :( Otherwise, yeah all my PSU sleeving would be in the process of turning white right now... I might even redo it in the future if I get a wild hair...
But you have to admit, that fiber obtic string could have some really cool potential uses for case mods. Least, so methinks.
O.o i go away for 2 weeks and i see this waiting for me!!!! a mountain of fans!!!! wow cant wait to see where this goes.... damn those lights are really cool.... i pity you and your current endeavor it sleeving your psu, and 38 fans.... good luck!!!!

armeniandave's master craftsmanship has paid off! The grills are cut and on the way! When I get them, I imagine I'll continue to flip out over how awesome they look, and then realize... I STILL DON'T HAVE MY MountainMods case!!!
I'm going to wait until I have the MM case to get the grills powder coated so I know exactly what color/gloss to decide on!
Anyway, I'm happy. Thanks dave.

I know that this thread has become long so I thought I would remind those who are interested what I would like to do with the grills color wise. The MM Ascension + Pedestal will be powder coated frost white (high gloss) and so I intend to have all of the grills which will cover the inside and the outside of each and every location on both of the cases that has a fan, painted a high gloss black, as to be in stark contrast.
Any thoughts? Any alternative color suggestions?
The 3x3 front panel with the two UN logos is the inside cass grill as where the one with the XS logo is the outside grill.
Make the grills an accent color IMO not black :)
they look awesome BTW, kudos to dave for awesome craftsmanship
very nice!!! not sure how gray would look in high gloss, but sounds like an idea.... but definitely, gray, black, and white are all colors that go together well, along with black and red imo...
for a gray maybe...

these are all from testors who make some really good paints so check their site out if you want to see even more colors... not sure if you wanna go powdercoating or straight painting because these are for painting not powdercoating but here are a few colors... i will remove the pics once your done looking at them if you want...
Whoa, thx alpha... A great source to get colour ideas in the least! Thank you.
No need to delete them, unless YOU want. :)
The silver one (second), looks realy nice.
Those grills looks so nice *-*
Np I was actually looking into colors a while back for an idea I had and had that site bookmarked... It's also got some great things for beginning aurbrushing I found out while browsing the site but they also sell some. awesome paints. What I really found neat was their collection of WWII uniform colors.... Really kinda cool if your into miniatures I guess
UPDATE: I should be receiving the case from Mountain Mods no later than the end of next week. I ordered over a month ago. :( But, when I do get it, let the action begin! The grills will be taken in to be painted along with the case the same day if it arrives early enough.
In the mean time I decided to buy the below. I realize it's a scrapper, but it will be a better basis to build off of compared to some of my home made designs.
1 x FireBall V90 CNC Router

3 x Heavy Duty 1/4in Shaft Coupler

I'm still deciding on the spindle to purchase. I'll probably end up getting the Bosch PR20EVSK Router... unless I can find anything more powerful. I also bought a lot of replacement parts in general for this "baseline" CNC... better ways, mounts, leadscrews, and a myriad of other things I know will make this template CNC into something capable of cutting aluminum slowly but with ease. (I realize fixed gantry is far more ideal for cutting aluminum and metals but I'm going to see how far I can take this CNC to essentially assist in making the next CNC.) I intend to use it for acrylic etchings as well. I estimate the precision of this thing after I'm done with it will actually be pretty good, however I've only got 12" x 18" for my x, y ways (3" for z) so most case panels will be out of the question until I make further improvements, like increase size to 4'x4' replace all blocks and Thompson linear shafts with higher quality THK linear ways, larger creations will be out of the question.
Aside from a spendel, my insano eyes are glaring at a 1024nm 10-1000Watt Q-switched DPSS Laser :D ... I hope I can close them in time.
EDIT: Pictures are not my own, but from the site manufacture. http://www.probotix.com/
Wow building your own cnc huh??? Wish I had the time to do that... Good luck with that thing !!!
Well not so much building as modifying the one I bought to the point where I start to wonder why I purchased it at all. I have built two "poor man's" CNCs in the past, all of which are complete crap unless you really really like watching the grass grow... :) I figured this time I would at least by some semi-quality parts instead of what I can find at the hardware store (minus steppers, controller, psu) ... aside from all of that, I'm actually about 900 miles away from my builds atm. :( Taking care of some business up north. I'll be back the day after tomorrow... and guess what! I bet you my MM case STILL won't have arrived.
If nothing else, I certainly am learning a lesson in patience ... well... so I like to think. ;)
