thanks Shazza :) your gonna love the 5d mkII!
and the psu isnt gonna be black and red when I get through with it ;)

arent there red connectors on the back of those XFX's though?
what about those?
Just a question on your equipment. On what du you put all your stuff for photography? It looks a bit like plastic or something... Thanks ;)
its all in the details, but either way, I'm lovin it
nice build, gonna need a second vertex for raid-0 though..
A few asked for set photos to see where the magic happens :) - here you are:
(24-70 lens on the 5d mkII atm ;))

I have decided that later on I will be expanding the set to be able to handle the case shots :D :toast:
Pretty crazy!
/me just waits for more pictas!
damn Ian, you're crazy :) keep on rollin
Ian Thank You for Posting that up :), big help to me :)
crazy looking booth setup man! i love the way the camera is supported, thats pretty trick.
Hey nice camera setup sniipe! That sure is impressive, explains the gorgeous pics.
Can't wait to see the waterblocks go on...:yepp:
wow nice setup any recomendations for somebody who cant have a permanent picture place and is in high school ?
for i think a canon rebel camera my mom has
I had to come out of my hole to say what an awesome studio setup Ian! :slobber:
I'm going to have to dial my foam core reflectors to 11! :eleph:
well, there is always the DIY lightbox setup made from foamcore, some pvc-pipe, and such - I know one of the guys around here uses one, maybe it's Kirk (BlueAqua)
Thanks a bunch Charles :D I use a lot of foam core / silver reflectors in this particular setup because it is just the one overhead light bank. In the larger set I make up soon I will add in two satellite left and right banks because the reflectors just wont cut it in this particular setup with the larger items.
but your photos have really great aspects and feel to them, some times less lighting is more if you know what I mean. ;)
Thanks for sharing your lighting setup, SNiiPE. I like the formica background - probably much easier to work with than my ol' Office Depot poster board! I'm looking forward to learning to work with Strobes.
Cheers Ian. :)
Since I don't have a studio flash setup, I try to stick with the "keep it simple" philosophy. Reflecting natural light and shooting when the sun is low on the horizon is always favorable to incandescent lighting, IMHO. That being said, I miss the "pop" of studio strobes. In a past life, I had a decent Speedotron setup. Nothing beats the crispness of 1k+ watts of strobes. :)
Which camera is that on the tripod? Ofcourse i will understand if you don't want to share because of the blur you added on the pic.
Anyhow very nice build, looking forward to updates
I don't think he blurs it, he's just got some sort of a black sticker, or a black duct tape to hide the Canon logo, ya know some ppl hating, and other stealing, so sometimes when u got high-end stuff, or anything that looks expensive it's sometimes worth to hide it. Sorry for the OT.
Or maybe I'm wrong ;p
I don't quite get what your saying but thanks!
Actually its the 24-70, but yes I did post it before :D
You've got a sharp eye rob :) all the logos and markers on the camera are taped over. My dad and I recently went to Paris and you cant let people see the make and model of the camera in a big city like that. The tape on the camera strap has a steel cable under it that prevents the strap from being cut off of your shoulder as well.
and no problem with the OT :D I like my thread to have a friendly atmosphere so everything goes
That is an awesome set-up you have there Snipes..
Always thought you went somewhere to get pictures like that..
Snipe, more updates :(
Thanks lazy :) home sweet home is good for me
You Rang???
(sorry these pics are so big, I liked them to much to give them to the resolution butcher)

Naked shots. . .. . ummm. ... yeah . .. . brb
beautiful shots, like always SNiiPe!
Won't be happy until you desolder the red DVI connectors :p
unfortunately, I agree...
and they're not shielded...not really necessary for digital outputs like that, but it does make it look cleaner =/
Tsk tsk,
This guy...
His life is every geek's dream. Awesome camera, MDPCs, TONS of sponsors.... You name it!
I admire you man:clap:.
That black PCB is a thing of beauty. Kudos to XFX!
And that has gotta be the best collection of close-up photos i've ever seen. Macro lens Sniipe?
Thanks guys, I'm glad a few of you liked the photos :p:
Yeah this is the 24-70 macro .38m :) its one freakin' sharp lens :yepp:
you all have no faith in me :shakes: ;) you really think that I am going to leave the dvi connectors visible on the inside? you'll just have to wait and see ;)
SNiiPE u need to change those red dvi connectors
awesome pictures
Excellent shots SNiiPY ;) Not much RAM units on these cards though...
P.S. did you get my PM?
Looking for updates. SNiiPE_DoGG ... I know you're focusing on getting your panels done, but am really curious to see how you're going to set up your cooling. I see the 955 and 2 x 4890s and one pump. Will you be setting up a single loop, and with what radiator/s ? There is not much info on water cooling performance with the new AMD setups, so interested seeing how yours does.
Well in the OP I mentioned that I will be getting a Thermochill PA140.3 for the bottom chamber of the case. Secondly, the AMD processors are not very hot running ;) IIRC even overclocked they only put out about 130-150w heat.
so I will indeed be running a single pump-single loop with the CPU and the two video cards in parallel. The biggest reason I chose AMD actually (besides winning the CPU in a contest) was that its chipsets don't even come close to needing a waterblock so I can keep the loop simple and letting things flow :D:up:
about the panels - I took a look at the CNC router yesterday and I can definitely use it soon, It is absolutely insanely huge and powerful! each head is about 10" in diameter and has a self contained oil cooling system for the bit (there are 4 heads) when I bring my camera into work I will get some pics for you guys.
I am making an order from performance-pcs today and I will have more modding related updates soon. first order of business is the PSU :yepp:
Thanks - I missed the 140.3. That'll certainly do the trick. I'm quite impressed with how cool the AM3 system runs, and just looking for more systems to compare to.
i will be watching this one closely cause i have almost the same system, very close to it
also i will be gonig W/C also this will be my 1st, very nice log so far Dogg ,keep it comming
The layout on that graphic card is just so extremely neat!
Such splendid order of components :slobber:
I see chromatic aberration, ugh, not much, but it's there.
those pictures are so clear... i want to get myself a 5dm2 as well...
nice project and pictures SNiiPE_DoGG
hey Ian, i never realised the 4890 pcb is so clean...hahaha. then again, i have never seen a naked 4890 =x
Thanks Bianco and dr- :D
since I need to practice overclocking I finally got myself a good cooler and since I need to practice my photography here are pics :D
(sorry for the size - I hate jpeg quality compared to the raws)

And the magnificent return of the hedgehog! lets call him sonic for now eh?
sorry I know people will say lapping to 2000 grit wet is pointless but I am too much of a perfectionist for anything less. And no there is no polish at all on that base.
http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5795/thorhammer2.jpg
Rawr!
What is that cooler Sniipe? Who makes it?
It is the Xigmatek Thor's Hammer and I :banana::banana::banana:ing love it :D
Ah. Very nice. Isn't it supposed to be better than the TRUE?
It certainly looks the goods!:yepp:
hedgehog!
haha I had to say that =P
Very nice Ian.
and for goodness sakes... don't sit on that hedgehog! :)
Yeah I think it does. Since i've lapped it and installed 2 Sanaces in push pull its really good.
running WCG just a minute ago with sPi 32m going as well it never broke 37C on any of the cores :woot:
:D
thanks charles, and this is only the temporary solution :p: I am really enjoying following through with quality photos the whole way through on this one, even if it takes me extra time, it's worth it.
Amazing pics Snipe. I saw that cooler a while back before release, read a nice review about it, looks very "cool".
Why are you using such closed aparature on your photos? Maybe you have realy good lens there, but f18?
u going to h20 ur 4890? Plz post more pics
I can't wait to see this finished after you're last project Ian, love this so far.
Found any blue DVI connectors yet? :P
Wow!!! Nice! If it's scaled 1:1... what size? does it fit all the bays? :D
love your work on the Thors Hammer Snipe! i got talked out of lapping mine a little while back because people fear mongered me into thinking id breach the heatpipes, but having seen yours lapped and looking beautiful i think its time to do the same :p:
it really IS a truly awesome looking cooler, i don't care if its better/worse/same as the TRUE, it damn well looks a thousand times better! my TRUE has been confined to dust gathering :ROTF:
i'm lovin' this build sniipe, lot's of ideas for my next project!
btw, lot's of your pics have bcome desktops for my computer :p:
cool man :) if you want a certain resolution of a pic or a crop I can make it happen, these are 22 megapixel shots so I have a lot of leeway
@mullet: definitely lap it, mine had some pretty iffy flatness in placesbut after the lap it was perfect
@Dobro: yes it is all the bays, I dont care for CD drives in my computer - I only ever use them to install the occasional game and if I need some files I just use my laptop + my external drive.
you can kind of see the features in the reservoir I hope I can actually pull off the acrylic work
Still wondering mow much coolant that thing is going to hold ;)
Are you going to try to have it etched too? That would probably look pretty sweet in the front of the case etched with some LEDs in the front panel:up:
I'm not sure about the exterior elements (etching and such) but I am getting all the pieces laser cut so I will be able to add that in as I complete the design.
Made a McMaster order today, some cool stuff in there :)

*drool* I would LOVE to have some of Permafrost's and Flow's pictures as wallpapers at 1920x1200... I'm sure lots of others would too.
Wait a minute... An air cooler on the CPU? You mean to tell me that project flow doesn't have total and utter waterflow? Aww... Regardless, I am on the edge of my seat on this one!
"have to keep my eyes on"
Be careful with :banana::banana::banana: pictures Sniipe:D
Only one PA140.3? With dual 4890s, I would've expected more rad. I'll be interested to see how your temps are.
BTW: I noticed you go to RPI and your avatar (assuming that's your frat). I have some friends who go to RPI that I interned with at Cisco one summer. I think the two guys are in SAE and the girl is in a sorority, just don't remember the letters.
the 140.3 should have close to 1000w of heat dissipation at 10c delta and considering that the PHII + 2x 4890 is less than 600w I think I will be able to punch out some nice results :)
From my experience so far with the PII 955BE, SNiiPE_DoGG won't have any issues at all with the 140.3 rad. I'm running 2 x Magicool 240 rads and Low Speed Fans, with a 4870X2 in the loop, and temps are so low I thought something was wrong.
Yep :) these are the fans I got for the rad, its a PA so these should pull some pretty good amount of air through.

Amazing stuff you got their man..
great looking pics (again) SNiiPE. in an unrelated question to your build log, hows summer treating you in MA?
This looks awsome Snipe....your skill and attention to detail go without saying....but how are you going to up the ante over Permafrost:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:
fantastic hardware coloring. that black on black on blue action is going to be sah-weeeeeeeet! i'm waiting impatiently for more updates :)
Thanks :)
There are a lot of things modding wise I wish I had done better on permafrost, its what keeps me going I guess :)
Thanks Rise!
updates you said?
here is a single pic, sorry but I have just perfected my technique which took me longer than expected, more updates are coming up fast as I have recieved the end mills for the router from MCmaster and a whole bunch of goodies from P-pcs and Sidewinder :)
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/33/wire0008.jpg
Love that high res pic! Awesome! It's a perfect match ... photography and modding.
holy shiat.
I wish i had a photo studio like that. Brilliant pictures m8.
You going to sleeve those S_D? That had to be fun rewiring that all one color.
