nah not hand picked, just dumb i7 920 beginners luck... 3836A756 was first retail i7 920 batch to arrive in Australia... i7 920 at the time weren't selling well when priced at AUD$519+ and stock was sitting on shelves. After several weeks i saw price drop to AUD$459 each, so grabbed 2x i7 920 and that's what I got = very first shipped batch that was sitting on shelves for several weeks! :DQuote:

Would you rather Intel did nothing to improve upon their design? This is not some radical improvement. These chips aren't running 5GHz 24/7 on air or anything. So far it looks like the C2D/Q C0->E0 jump...better temps and a tad bit more speed (~100MHz).
It seems everyone else would like the i7 to run cooler and faster...why not you? Personally, I don't think having chips that run 90*C+ is acceptable, so this is a welcomed and needed improvement.
I don't think the D0 chips have a higher multiplier limit than C0. From what I've seen in this thread it just matters if your mobo has the support and you set the BIOS settings right. The 920 has the 22x w/ Turbo, so its in there...just a matter of having the right board/settings to enable it.

Criminal thx for all the new info, i was in the boat of waiting for a D0 or buy the current but since ebay cashback was 25% i ended up buying a 920 for $202 with instant cash couldn't be happier with my current chips does 3.8ghz at 1.28v which is better than the norm a 3842A, i have read in some posts that is one of the worst batches. I think the batch can't tell much and we will have to wait for the end result to see which one is better. But generally how much temp drop we are talking? My load is 78C at 3.8ghz with 1.26v but it goes to the 90s at 4.0ghz.

FUGGER told D0 would bring lower temps/power consumption and remember the 965 5.0GHz on air clock? Also the i7 are gonna be found in a laptop soon, with current heat/power consumption it would be totally impossible to use such CPU. Remember Q6600 was it B2 or B3 that was the hottest running and such improvement G0 brought? Intel can do very drastic improvements sometimes with a new stepping. However max bclock I don't think will change pretty much anything.
That is enough for me to believe D0 will have progressed in these factors. Max clocks I don't think will improve drasticly unless you're the person that don't have enough cooling that is, then these new D0 would allow for higher OC b4 temps are starting to hit back and prolly with slightly lower voltage than before if PC's sample is an average one, so basicly I think D0 will offer most improvement for aircooling users (maybe easier to hit stable 4.0 ~ 4.3GHz clocks on 920) while DICE/LN2 users might not see much higher results than before.

I'm hoping for 300-400 MHz Increase. My old i7 920 could do prime stable 21x200. and could bench at 21x210.

My Q6600 doesn't show anything here but a C0 Core i7 should show 64 in these two digits because 64 hex = 100 decimal which is TJMax for all the early Core i7 that I have seen.
If 5C is in that location then Core Temp is right; TJ Target is 0x5C = 92.
I don't think that Intel would deliberately low ball TJ Target so software automatically reports lower temperatures.

Meh, it ain't stable yet. I get a BSOD after a little while while running Intelbrun Test and Prime95 Small FFT. Now playing with different Voltages.
Guess it's a minor thingy since it ran above mentioned combo for 1.5h or so, and it does put quite a strain on the system. Maybe it's QPI:rolleyes:
EDIT Actually considering to set Blck back to 200Mhz and just live with a 4.2Ghz 24/7 OC.
PcCI2iminal: Thanks for reading MSR 0x1A2 and posting that. 0x5C = 92 so Intel did set TJ Target to 92 on your CPU and Core Temp and RealTemp are both reading that information correctly. Pt1t has a 920 ES and CoreTemp shows that his TJ Target is set to 93.
The question now is did Intel lower TJMax or did they only lower the TJ Target value? It's possible that the actual TJMax is still 100C.
I hate to be cynical but if all Intel did was lower the TJ Target value in this register then all software will report your core temperature lower than it actually is.
We'll have to wait until the retail CPUs come out to find out what's really going on.
The best way to test for this is to lower your vcore and MHz as low as they can go and compare your reported core temperature to your room temperature near your open case.

If your reported core temperature during this test is the same or lower than your air temperature when air cooled then I'd be suspicious about these new TJ Target values.

on DFI UT X58-T3EH8 you can enable all cores with 22x multi only if C3 state is enabled but without C3 you will need to disable 3 cores for 22x
eva2000...is there any disadvantage using C3 state? Seems some boards are Bclk limited at 222, this would break that bottleneck if the DFI would do 22 multi/4 cores.
I'm ditching my current MSI board cause it can't do sleep mode, so I've got the Biostar, Giga UD5, and DFI dk T3EH6 on my short list. Wanna attempt a record breaking run

the lowest vcore for 2d benching is 1.48v for 4600MHz+(at -110c)
and the lowest vcore for 3d benching is 1.6v for 4600MHz+(at -110c)
and here is my first numbers after one hour of benching , WinXP Pro SP2 with no tweaks and some LOD
